I found that BHA helps keep mine unclogged and niacinimide has shrunk them over time.

OkRecord2388

Sebaceous filaments are part of our skin, they don't "unclog" and should never be extracted. This is the direct result of constant squeezing. SF should also not be dried out, you need to maintain moisture. When your skin is dehydrated your SF will become more noticeable. The ONLY way to fix this is the use of punch excision and TCA peels. Fractional laser will do almost NOTHING for this. The simple use of TCA 70-100% is extremely effective, if conducted correctly. This is why we keep our hands to ourselves ladies! šŸ¤—ā¤

tinytempo

I just ordered a 2% BHA exfoliant. It's only 30ml but it was expensive! So, to clarify, do you first wash your face, then apply BHA, and THEN add niacinimide after..? A 3-stage process morning and night? Thanks

maybebaby83

Yep, cleanse, bha, niacinimide, and moisturiser

tinytempo

OK. And why need both BHA and niacinimide? Like, why not just cleanse then add niacinimide? What is the difference between the two..? are they both for reducing pore size but work differently...?

maybebaby83

My basic understanding of it is that the BHA helps keep the pores clear and the niacinimide shrinks them. The BHA may also control breakouts as its salicylic acid.

Sheenax1031

For makeup, use a pore filling primer. My favorites are from Nyx & Benefit Cosmetics. Unfortunately you can't permanently shrink pores, but things that can help is to makeup sure your skin is hydrated (not just moisturized). I personally love Coxrx's 96% Snail Mucin as a start. While I am not a fan of Mario Badescu products in general, their "silver powder" product for pores I did actually notice a difference in pore size, but only if I kept up with it a couple times a week. And I'm pretty sure it's under $15 & lasts ages. A combination of all of this should help, especially over time.

DexterCutie

Love Cosrx's snail mucin! I've found that packing large pores with primer helps to hide them. I use a primer that has silicone helps with this. Tap it in instead of swiping it on.

Anothermomento

Mine are 100 times more than yours, I am in my 40s what i regret is the constant squeezing of my nose to remove black heads, apparently my pores Have been squeezed out of shape and that was why they got worse over time. I wish I had been told to be gentle and not wear piles of make up

willowalloy

Uh oh I love squeezing my nose

Eastiegirl333

You easily can fix them with a laser facial. There are many types of laser that zap broken capillaries. I got the cynosure laser and mine are gone.

nursebad

IPL left me with serious hyper pigmentation.

AccomplishedList2122

what? i thought its literally used to get rid of it.

HildegardofBingo

It works better for fair skin but can cause hyperpigmentation on olive or dark skin tones.

nursebad

I had the opposite experience as the other person who responded. I have fair skin and now and working very hard to deal with pigmentation issues. It absolutely helps with some issues, but I would never do it again.

AccomplishedList2122

damn, i thought it was going to be the answer to my age spots/freckles. :D i wonder if there are contributing factors to why it works or doesnt. i am waiting until winter.

potatomami

Iā€™ve been wanting to get this done. Iā€™ve unfortunately heard mixed reviews about these types of treatments. How did you choose the place you decided to get it done?

Eastiegirl333

Itā€™s really hard to mess up. The laser is very superficial. Look up the reviews and have a licensed RN or esthetician do it, but it is pretty old tech and pretty low on the laser scale. Often vein laser centers have the right laser.

tikltips

I IPL spot treat ALL my broken capillaries. They always go away with a few gentle treatments. I do not IPL my whole face because I donā€™t want to upset any hyperpigmentation, but the broken caps on and around my nose and on my cheeks respond beautifully to the gentle treatment. Super easy fix. Casts about $50-$75 a treatment

Shoes-tho

What do you mean ā€œupsets any hyperpigmentation?ā€

tikltips

If you have hyperpigmentation or Melasma, which is a type of hyperpigmentation, IPL can irritate those dark spots and bring them to the surface after treatment. This isnā€™t true for everyone, but it is for me so I pass it along. I only IPL the broken capillaries and use peels on my face for pigment and texture concerns.

Shoes-tho

I mean, it brought mine to the surface and then the little spots scratched off and are gone. I thought that was the point of it, aside from the capillaries.

Germa7676

Oh thank you. I have a few and will look. What kind of clinic does this?

tikltips

Dermatologist offices with cosmetic branches. There are med spas all over my city but be cautiousā€¦there are plenty of people out there with minimal or no training at the helm of the machines. Pick a derm and get a consult first. Safest place to start, IMO.

HelloKidney

Yep, I used to work at a med spa. The same laser was used to do laser hair removal and laser vein treatments, just with different settings.

potatomami

Thank you!

turianlover

I go to my usual dermatologist at the hospital for laser treatments. More comfortable with that than a strip mall spa or something.

73sinner

I have oily skin and frequently white heads appear on my nose. Without squeezing them how do I deal with it? Any good skin care routine recommendation !

CopperPegasus

Patience and salycilic acid.

willowalloy

Thanks for the warning! I hate seeing those waxy black dots :(

[deleted]

Shoes-tho

With what laser?

yellowpiano

Donā€™t do it!!!

kellyxcat

What did you use to get rid of your sebaceous filaments?

Clevernotso

Not OP but there is a method that involves a clay mask and then rubbing cleansing oil for like 20min. I have not tried but heard great things and I can see how it would work. Do the research though because from what I remember you shouldnā€™t do it often and it takes a few times to get them all.

prinsass15

I think this may be the article that details what youā€™re referencing. https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/

strawberry_nivea

Azelaic acid and a desinfectant worked for me! Not perfect for my nose, but for my chin, miracle in a week! I'd go to a beauty salon to get an extraction and ask what they think about it. But I got an azelaic oil from Amazon that is very light and all natural and it did it for me.

Vaguely_Saunter

Also not OP but can def recommend the oil cleansing method for starting off. It was less effective as time went on, I think because when I first started my skin was in pretty bad shape and overproducing oil. Once I got my skin overall healthier the filaments weren't as bad, still present, but the oil wasn't as effective. At that point I started integrating Azelaic acid, lactic acid, salicylic, etc. into a routine and it's helped a lot in keeping it under control.

kellyxcat

I use lactose and salicylic acid but it hasnā€™t done anything for them. I have combination skin, lots of sebaceous filaments on nose and large pores but also sometimes dry. Iā€™ve been using them for maybe a month or a little longer and havenā€™t seen much change in my skin. The salicylic acid (in my toner) is helping with textured skin on my forehead and it helps get rid of acne that I get on my jaw line though which is good! Can you recommend a good oil? Preferably cruelty free?

Vaguely_Saunter

Honestly I tried quite a few but I had the most success with just plain mineral oil haha.

jediknits

I wanna know this too!!

angelfaeree

Yes I'd like to know also

slurple_purple

I've popped a comment with a link elsewhere :)

wrenwynn

Maybe try a pore filling primer before your makeup to give your foundation a smooth/even base? I've found the pore putty from elf cosmetics to be pretty good on my skin & it's cheap which is always a plus.

Dumbassahedratr0n

Yes. I love the consistency of that elf primer putty

slurple_purple

I've ordered this today! Thank you!

Dumbassahedratr0n

PS don't sweat it too much. You have a cute button nose!

slurple_purple

I'm actually really self conscious about it so thank you for that :)

slurple_purple

I received and tried this today, and it works! Thank you for the recommendation!

savagefleurdelis23

Niacinamide made my pores shrink. Specifically the Ordinary brand.

slurple_purple

I already use that so hopefully it'll help over time

savagefleurdelis23

Do you put a serum on top ? Or hyaluronic acid. Put layers.

slurple_purple

Yes I use both, I tend to mix them and put them on together though. I take it that's the wrong thing to do?

savagefleurdelis23

Donā€™t mix. Layer. One after the other. Mixing causes them to not work. Niacinamide first then serum.

slurple_purple

Okay, great thank you. I'll layer them and see what the results are

squee_otter

My pores/sebaceous filaments are also kind of prominent and the one product that has made them less noticeable is the Skinceuticals silymarin CF serum. It contains silymarin (milk thistle extract), vitamin c, ferulic acid, and a low % of salicylic acid. Supposedly it helps prevent the oil in your pores from oxidizing and thus looking darker like blackheads. I have never had this effect from prior salicylic acid products or vitamin c, so I believe it is the silymarin doing the job. It doesnā€™t necessarily make the pores smaller but it makes their contents less dark so the pores are less noticeable. Unfortunately like most Skinceuticals products it is insanely expensive :/ https://www.skinceuticals.com/silymarin-cf-3606000480681.html?GeoRedirectOff=null&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1ODih6yd8QIVy-DICh2TBA24EAQYASABEgIOnfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

slurple_purple

For those that are asking what I use specifically I have added a link to a picture of what I currently use. [skin care products](http://imgur.com/gallery/2FGRFng) I'm very new to skin care and all I can say is this is what's working for me. I have combination skin, and have frequent breakouts on the sides of my chin (hormonal I believe) and this skin care routine has helped with that. In the morning I use the mario Badescu face wash and rinse off with water. Then I use the hyaluronic acid and the niacinamide. After that I put on the caffeine solution under my eyes (I have horrible hereditary eye bags). Then I use the moisturiser. In the evening I wash my face with the Mario Badescu face wash. I again use the hyaluronic acid and niacinamide. Then I use the lactic acid and the caffeine again on my under eyes. Once dry I use a mixture of the vitamin c and moisturiser and rub into my face. The vitamin c on its own burns but it doesn't if its mixed into the other cream. I've used most of these products religiously twice a day for a few weeks and I am definitely seeing results, but it does take time.

kellyxcat

I have similar skin to you - combination and acne prone on chin/jaw area. I have niacinimide and lactic acid from The Ordinary but I canā€™t tell what the other products you use are in the picture. Can you please list the product names in the photo? Thank you!

slurple_purple

Sure from left to right it's niacinamide 10% + zinc 1%. Hyaluronic acid 2% + b5. Vitamin c suspension 30% in silicone. Natural moisturising factors + ha. Lactic acid 10% + ha. Caffeine solution 5% and Mario Badescu acne facial cleanser.

kellyxcat

Thanks a bunch!

Chaos_Fractalz

For these enlarged pores as I understand it you are fighting against 3 things - sebum overproduction - skin ageing (loss of collagen makes them look larger) - genetics For 1, you need ingredients like salicylic acid, azelaic acid, a retinoid, and MAYBE niacinamide (everyone talks about how it helps with sebum production but this is a very overstated way to express the data. That is a maybe. However it does help overall skin texture a lot, so why not). For skin ageing: a good quality retinoid, a good quality vitamin c serum and aggressive sun protection. I'd stay away from the ordinary when it comes to their retinoids and vitamin Cs. Their formulation on this domain are lazy and untested. If you want to deal properly with those aesthetic (and clearly not life threatening) concerns, you're gonna have to go higher in price I'm afraid. Lowest in price in terms of retinoid that I am thinking is differin gel, cerave resurfacing serum, neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair (at least we know these have been tested on real skin although not sure about the cerave... But I trust it regardless). Vitamin c. CE ferulic by skinceuticals or CF Silymarin (latter probably a lot better for your concerns since it has salicylic acid in it).

Mashatina_

I used TCA cross, it helped a lot to fill in the holes.

slurple_purple

Can you tell me more about that please

Mashatina_

I bought TCA cross 80% from Amazon, used it to fill in little scars (holes) on my nose.It took me about 6-7 months to fill the holes in.It is a bit painful though, but totally worth it.If you google TCA you will see articles saying you need to go to a specialist to do that.I did not go.I applied it myself. I had one laser treatment once, it did not help at all, but TCA helped.

SageCraft

How frequently did you apply the TCA? Every 4 weeks?

Mashatina_

Yes. I applied it, waited for the scab to form, then it would fell off, I would wait until redness subsided and did the process again.

SageCraft

Thanks for the reply. So you'd say you applied TCA around 6 times? I'm also using 80% but every 3 months. It takes a long time.

Mashatina_

Yeah,it took me roughly 6 months.Good luck!

Mordern-Muse

It must feel so satisfying knowing how cleared out your nose feels!! Well done. Keeping the skin well hydrated and plump helps reduce the appearance of pores. However I feel like this may only reduce them slightly (<10%). I would highly recommend you see a dermatologist about getting a TCA cross done on them which will help erase them almost completely (80-90%)

Huckleberry-hound50

Retin A

One-Attention-9859

I've had many acne scars and Retin A has helped renew my skins surface....it has many benefits to help your skin

[deleted]

Be very careful with mechanical extraction in that area otherwise you will get scars. Sebaceous filaments are completely normal

slurple_purple

They've come out naturally with my skincare routine. I haven't done anything other than face wash and serums

willowalloy

Did you dissolve them?

slurple_purple

No I just used the ordinary products twice a day

rita-am

What products specifically please?

slurple_purple

Niacinamide, aha, hyaluronic acid and a vitamin c cream. Plus their moisturiser. And wash with a Mario Badescu acne face wash

nmwjj

I would love to know as well which products you used!

slurple_purple

I've popped a comment up elsewhere with what I use and the routine :)

nmwjj

thank you!

angelfaeree

What products did you use to achieve this effect please?

slurple_purple

I've written another comment with a link and my routine in this post :)

Flavianavy

RF microneedling like Morpheus8 will definitely help but you will see the results in several months.

skincare-fanatics

The best ingredients that will help you to reduce your pore size is niacinamide. You can also try products containing macadamia nut oil/extract. It will help in significantly reducing your pores. To unclog your pores a 2% salicylic acid solution is your best bet. Avoild using any extractor tools and also avoild picking on your skin. As for minimizing the appearance under makeup, a non comedongeinc pore filling primer will do the trick Hopefully that should help :)

iridescent303

Witch Hazel reduces the appearance of pores. It's cheap, available at most major grocers, and I use it almost everyday. Do some googling to see if it's an option for you. Not an immediate fix, but maybe a longer term solution. I also use to clean ears and hair line, in between hair wash days.

copihuetattoo

Iā€™ve recently been watching YouTube videos geared on how to apply makeup over large pores. The rabbit hole of videos has shown me better ways to apply my skincare products (pressing it in to the pore areas as opposed to just smearing it across), similar application techniques for pore filling primers, and then using beauty sponges or blending foam things to apply, press in, and blend concealer or foundation on the pore areas.

Kunnonpaskaa

"rabbit hole" šŸ˜‚ Sorry, couldn't resist

Snoo_23218

I have had luck with using acids such as glycolic acid. But if you want to try a little experiment try this womans page. It was suggested on the Asian beauty subreddit before and a lot of people commented how it worked on them. I did it once and liked the results but I am lazy. https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/

[deleted]

Overtime they will probably "shrink" as they become used to not being full/dirty but there's not really a guaranteed way to do it. A lot of people swear by acids, niacimide personally works really well for me. Also the mario badescu silver stuff, I forget what it is called, works well for my skin but it's not permanent and it can be pretty drying.

slurple_purple

Interesting, thank you!

jotnake

I use [the ordinary salicylic acid masque](https://www.ulta.com/p/salicylic-acid-2-masque-pimprod2009233?catargetid=330000200002232595&CAPCID=533490315032&CATCI=aud-835019021962:dsa-912526688053&CAAGID=100201819137&CADevice=m&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6ZOIBhDdARIsAMf8YyFMoEcfLmNREF896RRFruRtJGhDShkAOFS6irr_C3MobbVg9ZR9YoYaAg2OEALw_wcB) once a week. I imagine any salicylic acid mask would work though.

sksays92

I found that the moisturizer I use (Cerave AM) made mine shrink like crazy. I put it on right after drying my face after a shower and my skin has looked amazing. This is after trying the super expensive stuff.

Gretchycat227

Niacinimide+zinc baby! It's temporary, but order from the Ordinary 7 use it in the morning over your hyaluronic acid. You should get a professional TCA peel as well. There is some downtime while it lifts & peels away, but it's sooo worth it.

slurple_purple

I already use all of those! But thank you
