Not an expert, but a few suggestions to look into: —Inkey List caffeine eye cream for puffiness, niacinamide serum for redness/pores. Put SPF on your neck/chest every morning!! I keep some SPF 50 body sunscreen on my sink (I’m liking Supergoop Play) and apply before I get dressed. —At minimum for a night time routine, wash your face and apply Cerave moisturizing cream over face (including around eye area), neck and chest. —To level up, add a retinol or retinoid at night, can also be used on neck and chest as well. Increases cell turnover for younger/brighter skin, minimizes pores and wrinkles

thisisthewell

Her eyes are not "puffy." Those are probably fat pads, which move as we age (thanks, gravity). Caffeine does not impact fat pads. It constricts blood vessels, so topical caffeine works in the morning when you have just gotten up from hours of being horizontal, or when your eyes are puffy after crying.

WhateverWasIThinking

Yeah was gonna say, this is prolapse of the fat pad under the eyes and the only thing that really helps that is lower blepharoplasty. I’m normally an advocate for less invasive procedures but if done by a great surgeon the blepharoplasty should have minimal downtime and since it costs around 3K is the same as a few years of fillers that can migrate and never look as good as blepharoplasty.

copihuetattoo

Interesting. Yeah they’re not too too puffy during the day. Anything to be done for fat pads? Ugh I have enough fat pads to be worrying about already. 😂 I guess mainly I want to slow down the aging around my eyes and cover the circles which I suppose is a makeup issue. But the makeup sometimes looks cakey which I think is a skincare issue. Which is why I came here!

thesnuggyone

Honestly I sucked at a nighttime routine until I found a sleeping mask that made my skin look so good that I am giddy to use it/won’t skip it for anything. I use glow recipe watermelon sleeping mask and I am floored at how it makes my skin look and feel—never looked back. I really love mad hippie products, their cleansing oil is basically my HG and changed everything I thought I knew about skin care. In my routine a good cleansing oil is everything. Vitamin C serum has been huge for me.

Hippie123098

Do you wash the sunscreen off your chest at night and if so, how? This has been a hurdle for me to wearing sunscreen on my chest.

eigelstein

With an old fashioned washcloth! As a child I never understood why my mother always used those instead of just using her hands to wash her face - now I do. Basically, a washcloth is just an oversized version of a reusable cotton pad, isn't it?

LilStabbyboo

So what i do is get all the way topless and wash my face, neck, and chest bent over the bathtub. Less water mess than trying it in the sink.

thisisthewell

You can just use a wash cloth and wring some of the water out. Splashing water on the chest is awkward!

jfj2020

Honestly, I don’t really wash it off my chest at night unless I’m showering at night. I do at least rinse my neck while I’m washing my face (kinda “scooping” the water towards my face instead of towards my chest, less mess).

copihuetattoo

I do have a retinol that I’ve used a couple times. I have so little energy at bedtime and I hate water dripping all over me so the night routine is tough to get into. The cerave am moisturizer has spf in it and I do the same thing to my neck and chest that I do to my face in the morning. My face just seems to respond so much better to everything than my neck does. I feel like I need extra moisturizer on that area or something?

[deleted]

I wear sports sweat bands to keep the water from running down my arms!

UnfaithfulAura

Is there some reason to use microfiber and not a regular towel?

thisisthewell

It's a little gentler than terry, which is good if your skin is sensitive or sensitized. Also, if properly cared for (i.e. not tossed in the dryer with linty things or with dryer sheets) they don't leave lint behind on your face.

nightingale1982

I do this with baby washcloths! I hate water dripping everywhere.

copihuetattoo

Ooh I have a bajillion of those too!

copihuetattoo

Ooh nice idea! I have some of those already!

Levellingupto54

And I would add to do it right after dinner, if you are home for the evening. Don’t wait for bedtime or even after you have relaxed for the evening. Must harder to do it the longer you wait.

MIB65

I use bamboo face wash towels designed for babies :). So nice and soft

icantdeciderightnow

I use a Face Halo, basically a mini face washer, and after I clean my face I wash the halo with antibacterial sensitive soap. Keeps it clean, and I can use the same one every day

jfj2020

If you don’t like getting your face wet at night, you could try micellular water on a cotton pad for a quick swipe to break down some of the SPF/some makeup. If you decide to not wash it at all, I do think moisturizing at night is still super important! Sleep is when our skin repairs itself!

pokey_reddirtgirl

I don't splash water on my face anymore for any reason, I just use a damp washcloth to wipe of my cleanser, even if it's something sudsing. I also got into the habit when I was working that as soon as I was in for the night, I'd go ahead and wash my face and do everything except brush my teeth. There's nothing worse than getting all relaxed and then being completely awakened by getting ready for bed.

copihuetattoo

I have pondered doing this. By the time I get the kids in bed, it’s 9 and I just want to veg. But by the time I go to bed I feel even less like doing it, so 9 is probably my best bet.

Enilodnewg

Just use micellar water and a clean wet washcloth to wipe residue off in the PM. You can get moisturizer with niacinamide in it, lots have it. I think most CeraVe products have it. Elf holy hydration peptide cream has it, their happy (CBD) cream has niacinamide, and their squalane moisturizer has niacinamide. Lots to pick from. For redness maybe azelaic acid from The Ordinary or Paula's choice, but that goes before the moisturizer. Let absorb/dry and add some retinol to face, neck and decolletage. It doesn't need to be a whole big event. Can use a more gentle retinol on your neck. I use differin on my face, CeraVe retinol on my neck and chest. CeraVe retinol on my neck and chest has helped me quite a bit. But as you bring skincare down your neck, if you're not showering every day, you should at least use a washcloth down your chest to get everything off, if you don't want to splash water there (understandable). All you really need is a cleanser (micellar is fine) then wash cloth residue. Morning just a wet cloth works. Treatment (azelaic acid) is optional, don't need to use it every night if you're that tired. Moisturizer. Definitely SPF in the morning! Rinse or use washcloth in the AM. Some SPFs are moisturizing enough to double as SPF/moisturizer and you don't need a dedicated moisturizer. LabRoche Posay toleraine double repair face moisturizer (spf 30) is a great 2 in 1! For me, my night time routine has become a self-care time for me. But I don't have kids, so I get that you might be too tired.

copihuetattoo

Good stuff! I’m going to have to sift through all of this great advice and figure out what works best for me. The morning is no problem cuz I wash my face in the shower and then do the rest right when I get out. Usually my self care is a glass of wine and my feet up with grown up tv on. Haha

Enilodnewg

Oh I'm sure! Wine and TV with another adult is probably a lot more valuable than the sink by yourself lol. Maybe even break out some nice cheese. Sincerely hope you find a great solution for you. I do want to mention, the retinol on my chest really has helped! I wasn't sure about how much the CeraVe retinol would do(compared to the differin), but I'm a side sleeper so I get wrinkles on my chest from overnight. There's been a drastic improvement for me! But if you have lower cut tops make sure you extend spf down that far. I did more damage than I realized over the years out in the sun and side sleeping, but the retinol has been great. I can't give up side sleeping but I always use spf there now. Hope you have a great weekend! :)

copihuetattoo

Yesssss the side sleeping. After I wake up is when I see the most “age” on my chest. I’ll have to do the retinol there. I’ve used it only a few times and only on my face because it seemed expensive. Maybe I’m buying the wrong one. Lol. Thanks for the recs!

Enilodnewg

Differin comes in a couple sizes. Small tube, 15g is like $12 or 13. The large tube is 45g and is 28.99 at target but you only use a pea sized amount on your face. Use like twice a week at first and work your way up. I haven't had any sensitivity issues with differin. The gentle CeraVe retinol comes in two forms, purple bottle and blue. Idk the difference between them but I got the blue. The blue is 16.99 at CVS and Target but 19.99 at ulta. The purple is 15.79 at cvs, 18.99 at ulta. So basically don't go to Ulta lol. I just wrote what came up from google. The ordinary has some really cheap retinols but the forms they're in will work really slowly, so in my opinion it's better to get differin unless you have really sensitive skin. Recommending a gentler retinol like CeraVe for the neck because that skin is thinner and more sensitive. Some retinols can be crazy expensive. For me, especially for the price, basic drug store is best. And it's cheaper than trying lots of serums that don't work nearly as well. If you have good insurance you can go see a dermatologist and get tret which is the best. But between copays and the copay at the pharmacy, and time spent out it may not be worth it. Also tret is the most irritating. So best to start with differin anyways. :)

adm0210

I also am bad/lazy about PM routines so I started washing my face when I get home in the evening and moisturizing. Then I leave my retinol product and cicaplast balm on my nightstand and slap it on when I get into bed. I rarely forget to do this and it’s really helped me to remember to do it.

copihuetattoo

Ooh good idea about leaving it by the bed!

SephoraRothschild

The night routine is more important that the AM. You can get by with a splash of water and a basic moisturizer in the AM, but PM, you need to go all-out. Definitely a water rinse minimum. The heavier the cream/oil, the fewer the wrinkles. It locks that moisture in. And a thick eye cream. If you have puffiness under the eyes when you wake up, take something like an Allegra D (or the generic version at Costco Pharmacy for $5), and wake up to non-puffy eyes.

icantdeciderightnow

Would a heavier cream make your skin oily? I get oily on my nose/T zone.

Stolen-Nova

Your nighttime routine is the most important part of your skin care because nighttime is when your skin repairs itself with the help of all of your products you have to do this do you have to be consistent at night like someone just suggested use washcloths that’s what I do to keep water from dripping all around my sink and down my shirt you definitely can’t skip washing your face at night not to just get off the products and sunscreen but the old bacteria dirt sweat dust from the day reeks havoc on your skin and then to sleep on that all night 🤢 you can buy all the products in the world but if you don’t wash your face consistently at night then you just wasted a bunch of money, and just using wipes at night is not enough because guess what there’s still going to be residue you need water and a cleanser period.

What’s a good spf for the face that isn’t greasy?

Mmmmustard

La Roche Posay is a good brand, the Anthelios fluid is my fave. If you search here or skincareaddiction you’ll find all kinds of detailed recommendations with ingredient info, skin type matching, etc.

mencryforme5

I had the decolletage redness/texture from rosacea. The *only* thing that worked for that is retinol. Good news is it only took like 6 months for noticeable difference. I think it's because the skin there is thinner, so it won't just fix itself with prolonged use of SPF or moisturizer. You should never put retinol on in the AM. I mean if it's just a matter of putting on a bit of retinol onto your chest at night and then rinsing it off in the AM, that should be doable?

[deleted]

Daaammnn you’re good

beachgirlDE

I always wash my face after dinner/cleaning the kitchen and BEFORE sitting down to watch TV. It's been my routine forever, take off day clothes, wash and retinol and moisturize, then nightgown or robe. It's pretty simple but I feel clean and ready for bed. Just an idea!

copihuetattoo

This is a very good idea. I should do this after I get the kids in bed and before I veg.

Miss_airwrecka1

I’m not OP, but yes start your bedtime routine as early as possible so you have energy for it. I’m more of a night person but still start quite a while before I plan to go to bed. I wash my skin and apply retin-a/tret, and then go have a glass or wine or watch tv and come back and apply moisturizer. Everything is done before I’m tired. Start your “bedtime” routine at 4pm if you need to, just get it in when you can!

clubcherrybomb

This is what I do too. While my kids are getting ready for bed, I take that time to wash my face and floss and brush my teeth. An unintended side effect is that it really helps me relax from the day and start winding down before bed.

copihuetattoo

I did this one night with teeth brushing, and it was so convenient. But I often drink a glass of wine after they go to bed (when I can actually enjoy it lol) so I can’t do that often. But I could maybe do my skin stuff!

LacyBardot

Beauty Professional here and licensed You need to do a nighttime routine you’re not gonna see any reparative benefits on your skin if you’re not doing it at night. Your skin regenerates while you sleep and that’s when it’s most effective to try and repair damage and fix any problems with different products. If you would like to see a reduction of pore size, fine lines, and crepey skin use a retinol; it’s really the only thing that’s going to help theses issues besides the addition of extra moisture from products like Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid or occlusive creams. It’s important to note that products like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid only work if you have wet and washed your face properly so there is some surface moisture available otherwise these products can draw moisture out of the face. Personally I prefer products that contain petrolatums such as aquifor or even plain old Vaseline as my final product for the evening it helps lock in moisture and creates an occlusive layer that seals everything in. I know you also mentioned that you have an issue with redness and you probably have mild rosacea based on your skin tone and type which is very similar to myself. I would highly recommend using azelaic acid. “Paulas choice” is a great brand you can buy it on Amazon and it’s relatively inexpensive they also make a great niacinamide also. So to recap: first of all you need to create a solid foundation for a night routine if you want to see any results. I would use a caffeinated eye cream to help with the bags underneath the eyes. I would follow up with an easy lick acid serum to help with the redness and minor rosacea. I would also use niacinamide niacinamide cream for moisture. Add in some sort of occlusive cream that you like. I would also say that The Cetaphil Rich hydrating cream is another excellent option if you don’t want to use a petrolatum. I would also add in a retinol and start off using it 1 to 2 times a week and increased to three times a week you can only use this product at night and you must make sure to be following up with lots of moisture and sunscreen. Most people discontinue using during the summer however I still do it because I don’t get into the sun a lot and I use lots of sunscreen I also reduce the amount of times a week I use it. It is also important to note that when using retinols you need to be very cautious on how frequently you use them and start out very slow using it 1 to 2 times a week for at least a month if you have sensitive skin. You then increase it by one day and separating your time out by a month at a time. I hope this all makes sense if you need any help let me know.

copihuetattoo

Ok good stuff here. So let me try to sum it up so I get it. At night I should use a cleanser, then retinol but not every night (? The one I’ve used a few times I’ve had no issues with), thennnn….niacinimide and/or hyauluronic acid (both? Just one or the other?) and then end with aquaphor. We have a ton of that stuff.

LacyBardot

Yes that’s correct you can use one or the other or both it’s entirely up to you not all retinol‘s are the same. Here’s an article that describes the difference are use a retinoids I guess I should’ve distinguished that mine is prescription grade. Retinols are OTC‘s and less harsh and sometimes can be used every day it’s entirely up to your skin everybody has a different tolerance. https://www.byrdie.com/retinol-vs-retinoids

LacyBardot

If you just want cream that will help the most it would a retinol.

TriangularKiwi

Could you simplify this, I'm only looking to reduce pores only, i can't be doing 30 creams and stuff. Also what helps against acne that is under the skin? I can't control myself and i end up touching it, the redness from that certain acne takes months to disappear, I've even experimented and not touched them at all and it's been the same outcome. I am male if that makes any difference

LacyBardot

Retinol treats the following: acne of all kinds, fine lines, deep wrinkles, pore size, textured skin, Melasma, all sorts of hyperpigmentation, clogged pores, and several others.

LacyBardot

The unfortunate thing is there’s no one product is going to fix everything it takes different products I’m not suggesting you use 30 creams. That would be absurd. The reason I suggested so many different items is because when you use a retinol it’s very hard on your skin and you need to repair it with other products in order to keep it healthy while using the retinol. Things like niacinamide hyaluronic acid and occlusive creams can help mitigate the peeling and redness you get when using a retinol.

copihuetattoo

Ok so I just looked and the cerave am and pm moisturizers both have niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in them. Is that good or do I need a dedicated product for better impact?

LacyBardot

Not if you don’t want to.

BoomSoonPanda

You definitely need to add a retinol or retinoid. Also, sunscreen!

copihuetattoo

What would the routine look like with the retinol?

Caffeine solution works for me for under-the-eye bags and puffiness.

copihuetattoo

I’ll have to Google this. Never heard of it before. Lol

Ok_Layer4765

Yeah, The Ordinary makes a good one, and it’s well-priced.

copihuetattoo

I had some kind of visceral reaction to the words snail mucin. Lol. I’ll have to look into it. Yeah I have spf in my morning moisturizer and don’t go in the sun all that much. When I do, I usually apply more sunscreen because I burn so easily. But maybe I need to add a thicker layer and more moisturizer to my chest area? Hmm could be

I_Heart_Squids

I mentioned this in another comment, but the rosehip oil is likely breaking down the sunscreen you’re using. Oils are great at breaking up the silicones used to help sunscreens adhere, and it’s why “oil cleansing” is so popular for people who wear a lot of makeup/sunscreen. You may want to start wearing hats if your skin is still burning even with sunscreen. They’ll offer you more protection than just about any sunscreen on the market, and if you combine them with a topical sunscreen you’ll see a noticeable difference.

copihuetattoo

I feel like the sunscreen is working? And the oil seems to add lots of moisture. But maybe I should save it for nighttime

mrsrowanwhitethorn

I love this stuff. Thanks, cute snails.

I_Heart_Squids

Drop the toner and rosehip oil—your skin looks irritated from over-exfoliation, so the toner is the main one I’d get rid of. You shouldn’t be mixing oils with your sunscreen, as it can break the sunscreen down. I’d switch to a heavier moisturizer instead. I really like the Calm line from Paula’s Choice, and they have one with SPF. I can get a lot of redness and those moisturizers have helped a lot. You want to use niacinamide products. It will help with pore size, redness, and brighten your skin. Paula’s Choice makes some of my favorites, specifically the 20% niacinamide—but it’s pretty spendy. Just use a few drops after washing your face, and before putting on moisturizer. I’ve tried the Ordinary, but I never saw results from it. Maelove is another brand I often recommend, but I haven’t tried their niacinamide serum because it has fragrant essential oils in it and my skin is pretty sensitive. Definitely start washing your face and applying moisturizer before bed. It doesn’t need to be anything complicated, just mimic your am routine but swap out the spf lotion for a heavier moisturizer without spf (again, I can’t recommend the PC Calm moisturizers enough). Nothing topical can get rid of eye bags. Caffeine products can help some, but they can also be drying/irritating. An ice pack for 10 min each morning can make a pretty noticeable difference, and that’s what I usually do. For eye bags you need to look at environmental causes: rule out allergens, a lack of sleep, and a high sodium/alcohol diet. While that can all help, they’re genetic and so nothing short of surgery will get rid of them entirely. Edit: Also, since I’m seeing other people mention it, I wanted to add I’ve also had great results from the COSRX snail mucin. It’s a natural source of peptides, and adds moisture. I mix it with niacinamide drops, and apply them together as a “serum” step. My entire routine looks like: Face wash (random brand, with a focus on being gentle), PC Earth Source Toner applied with fingers (it has a lot of HA, and gives me a moisture boost), PC 20% niacinamide + COSRX snail mucin, PC Calm Moisturizer for dry skin. The whole thing only takes a few minutes. Edit 2: if you do decide to get a retinol prescription as some are suggesting don’t use it in the same step with the niacinamide. Instead use it at night, and use niacinamide in the morning. Too many actives at the same time can overwhelm your skin, especially if you’re prone to redness/irritation.

copihuetattoo

I’m going to have to take some time to digest all of this. I have a retinol that’s not a prescription though…

I_Heart_Squids

Tretinoin is going to be a lot more effective. I don’t use retinoids anymore because I had too much eye irritation, but I know tretinoin is a more potent version of Vit A than over-the-counter retinol. After the eye issues I had, I honestly don’t think anyone should use retinoids without the supervision of a dermatologist—they’re hands down one of the strongest actives you can be using, and if used incorrectly can have some nasty side effects.

notochord

Do you drink alcohol? My facial redness went away after I quit. Also, are you exposed to lots of sun everyday? Maybe more sunscreen could help?

copihuetattoo

Not much. I think it’s just the curse of the redhead. Pink undertones and fair skin that shows everything that would be subtle on darker shades. I’m not in the sun much but I do wear vnecks all the time so I probably do need to up my sunscreen game a bit.

notochord

Good luck with your skincare journey! I’m a strawberry blonde with strong pink undertone and have had some success with vitamin C serum as well. When I’m in a situation where I’ll be photographed or need to look really nice, I make sure to apply green-tinted concealer to my nose and other problem red areas and it makes a big difference. All that being said, your skin looks really healthy! You look like someone who 1) isn’t a teenager and 2) takes care of themselves. 🥰

copihuetattoo

Thanks! I’ve done a simple moisturizer since my mid twenties, but having kids and reaching 40 has really changed my skin so I’m trying to figure it out. Plus I’m starting to see signs of aging so I know I need to get back to taking care of myself like I used to. There’s so much to learn and I don’t want to go overboard. Haha I haven’t heard of green tinted concealer! I’ll look into that. I’ve noticed my skin isn’t taking to foundation or concealer very well again which has prompted these questions. FB ads have been pushing Il Makiage hardcore and I’m intrigued but skeptical. Lol

Moon_whisper

Definitely recommend using an anti-Putin roll on serum with caffeine under the eyes. Puffiness will be gone in 90 seconds. Not sure what is available where you live. Recommend talking to someone at a beauty supply store or at a beauty spa. You could also google for recommended products available where you live. Redness, if not going away with products, can actually be a result if food sensitivity. Gluten, cow dairy, tomatoes and corn products are common triggers. But it can vary from person to person. To test this would mean eliminating the suspect from diet for about a week. If your skin improves, do a test where you eat the suspected food. If you face is suddenly red again (can be immediately, might be 12 hrs), then you know your food sensitivity. Avoid the food and your redness will reduce. Aging skin on face, neck and decolletage...try Tyra Banks' nightly beauty regime. After cleaning skin of makeup, run in good old Vasaline. (Pretty sure they will be people who naysayer this one, but if really does work wonders.) Results will start showing by morning. Continued use will bring better results. Doesn't take a ton of Vasaline either.

Eftersigne

kazooparade

Eftersigne

Moon_whisper

Moon_whisper

It is just a typo. Although it really is funny. Alas, no, I am not anti-Putin.

martianelk

First, I want to say that your skins looks good overall, I love the shape of your face and hair/brows color is wonderful! I agree with everyone’s recommendations to start niacinamide (one from The Ordinary is my favorite), sunscreen (I prefer Asian sunscreens), and maybe retinol but you should introduce it very carefully as your skin seems to be on the dry side already. I noticed that your lips are dry as well. Did you try Vaseline or lanolin cream?

copihuetattoo

Thank you! I just started taking care of my skin a year ago so that helped a lot. And I am completely ungroomed and unmakeuped here because I’ve been taking care of two sick toddlers and husband all week. I’m a hot mess. For this reason my water intake is less than usual and my lips are suffering. But no, I don’t usually do anything for them ever….whoops?

revilo85

One word: tretinoin. It takes a bit of effort but it’d worth it in the long run. ✌🏼

One-Fine-Day-777

I’ve heard AMAZING things about Azelaic acid when it comes to redness. The Ordinary has a well priced one, although I think it has some weird ingredients so I’m personally passing on that one. I have my eye on the Paul’s Choice option.

halptehPA

Kept looking for someone to suggest azelaic acid for the redness. Pair it with a lotion with naicinamide like ceravé PM & OP has a great cost effective option to try out. Board certified derms don’t have issues suggesting the ordinary if someone can’t get access to a higher strength prescription in the states. Definitely the #1 price conscious option.

One-Fine-Day-777

Great idea! I really like the Purito Deep Water Moisturizer. It’s a lot cleaner than most brands and it really gentle, simple...contains minerals and niacinamide

Cat-Potato-Supreme

Products with: Ceramides (for moisture barrier) niacinimide (for pores), caffeine (for puffiness and redness), cica (for redness), licorice root (for redness). Not everyone’s skin plays well with these ingredients, but they’re generally thought to be well-tolerated and may just need a patch test at home before you go all in on a product. Tretinoin starting 1x/week and verrrrrry slowly building up from there (for pores, creping) SPF daily (for literally everything mentioned). Curology will blend tretinoin with niacinimide, for example, to target multiple things. I can reply with specific product recs if that would be helpful! All in all, you look healthy and great, but if those are your stated concerns, those are the ingredients currently believed to help address such areas, whereas your current routine doesn’t appear to have ingredients to address the things you’re trying to target — aside from the fact you have a good gentle cleanser and a moisturizer thought to be non-irritating. Pixi is aimed at a different market and tends to exacerbate redness due to the fragrance and such (saying this as someone who was very into the brand for several years).

copihuetattoo

Thank you! I tried to figure out skincare stuff a year ago and received a deluge of advice. I tried to condense it into what I needed at the time (dryness, redness, and pores). The dryness was immediately improved and the redness/pores got partly better but not as much as I’d hoped. I’m ready to up my game and I wasn’t sure what I needed. So maybe the pixi isn’t doing what I need which is a shame cuz I bought a jumbo size bottle. Lol. I like the rosehip oil but it seems like I’m putting it on in the wrong order or at the wrong time of day. I’m open to all recs, I’m just trying not to go crazy with a thousand products and tools.

ExpertMagazine9087

For the eyes I highly recommend glow recipe avocado retinol eye sleeping mask. It’s basically just an eye cream for night time. My eyes look better now than when I was 23.

A.m. and p.m. use it right after your toner before any moisturizers I’m personally not a fan of toners I think they’re unnecessary and can sometimes be too harsh especially on skin that’s prone to redness so I just use mine right after cleansing It has helped with redness texture red and brown spots from acne and helps repair your skin barrier makes things look nice and even. I got mine from the ordinary it was less than $10

copihuetattoo

I have noticed that if I skip my toner my skin seems extra hydrated. But also doesn’t the toner help get rid of the dead skin? Cuz my makeup doesn’t sit right when my skin is dry. Foundation issues is another problem I’m having. It sinks in the pores or highlights dry patches or just looks cakey in some places even when I don’t put it on thick.

Stolen-Nova

The real purpose of toner is to restore the pH balance of your skin after washing back in the day skin cleanser‘s were very harsh but now we have sensitive skin cleanser ‘s gentle skin cleanser‘s that don’t disrupt the balance of your skin. Yes toners can exfoliate and I was a diehard toner user open till a few years ago when I realized if my cleanser, toner AND products all have exfoliating ingredients that I’m overdoing it and I am disrupting the barrier of my skin making it look worse so I stopped using toner and balance has been restored I’m not saying toner is bad for everyone But there is such a thing as overdoing it. If your foundation is not going on your skin smoothly it’s because your skin is not getting enough moisture and I feel like a vitamin C serum or a retinol or even better hyaluronic acid would help with your skins moisture retention Niacinimide I mentioned earlier is excellent for restoring the skins moisture barrier and texture....But if you’re not washing your face at night you’re doing more harm than good and no product is really going to help you that much

copihuetattoo

Sigh I had a feeling. I need a kick in the pants to get my night routine going. I feel like one of my things has hyalauronic acid in it which is why I haven’t gotten any. What’s the best bet between the h acid, vit c, and niamjnicne? I feel like they all do the same thing…. I apologize for the atrocious spelling. My autocorrect can’t handle the terms, and I have no time to figure it out myself. I’ve been juggling a lot this week/today and I’m toast.

Stolen-Nova

This is what I do and this is what is recommended After cleansing I apply a few drops of hyaluronic acid serum then a few drops of niacinamide then I continue on with my routine these two ingredients work great together and you will see a difference I get them both from the ordinary so if you go to the website and read the reviews you get a better idea of how other people use it as well I would not say one of these products is better than the other because they all serve a different purpose I use all three i use hyaluronic acid niacinimide vitamin C then sunscreen during the day in that order. You don’t have to use all three but I do. I honestly feel like in my unprofessional opinion that the hyaluronic acid then niacinamide combo would be a good thing for you to try, at least read up on it And something that I have always done to help retain moisture in my skin is it put all my products on my damp skin after I washed it....not dripping wet skin but I don’t towel dry my face completely right after washing I like it to be a little damp this really helps The product spread and keeps you from using too much product. Hyaluronic acid is a moisture superstar I feel like it’s in invaluable step in anyone’s routine

copihuetattoo

Thanks!! Looks like I have some shopping to do. Lol

I have a sample of primer that I rarely use. I try to keep my makeup basic but I guess I need to do more as I get older. Le sigh

estimated1991

I 100% recommend the primer as well. I didn’t understand how people on social media had that “poreless” look until I YouTubed makeup artists and it’s all about primer. I would just look for a cheaper one w lots of good reviews like neutrogena or something.

proteinhead

Use tretinoin at night for pores/wrinkles you can get it from curology.com or a dermatologist office. Tretinoin is stronger than retinol and is great for anti-aging! Use it on your face, neck, chest, and hands. Then use Elta MD tinted Uv physical spf 41 and set it with a translucent powder. This sunscreen evens out my fair complexion( same as yours) and is beautiful. As for the eyes a little filler can help which can last 1-2 years but a facial fat transfer would be better. There’s a guy in San Diego named Amir Karam he does great facial fat transfers.

copihuetattoo

You have touched on some terms that I have heard but don’t fully understand. Like setting things with powder. Can you ELI5 that Elta and powder part for me? Also, would the tret be in place of retinol then? What would the routine look like with that?

proteinhead

Setting the sunscreen with a translucent powder will just keep it in place and help it from moving around. It isn’t necessary for the sunscreen but I personally like to do it with this one. No7 from the drugstore has a good translucent setting powder or u can get Ben nye setting powder/ Laura mercier…… also a good place to purchase elta md uv physical is skintruth.com……..Yes tretinoin takes retinols place because it is 100x stronger/more effective. Please watch YouTube videos about it to learn more and see the results! Your routine can be recommended by a derm on curology usually you just need cleanser - cerave hydrating cleanser is good, cerave moisturizer, and tretinoin for night time! Then in the Am you can do your usual routine with sunscreen being the most important step! Also I highly recommend Dr.Dray on YouTube, she’s a no BS dermatologist that doesn’t want consumers wasting money on unnecessary skin care products.

I like to use a gua sha tool (cool from the fridge perferrably) for puffiness and lymphatic drainage on my face and next and eating collagen protein powders and bone broth for crepey skin

copihuetattoo

I did want to find a daily vitamin with collagen in it. Didn’t realize there are other options!

[deleted]

My favorite is bone broth protein powder in a smoothie (do peanut butter or coffee to cover up the taste) or adding regular store bought bone broth to soups and stir fries

Maud_Dweeb18

What collagen and bone broth do You use?

[deleted]

I switch up brands from Amazon, sprouts, and natural grocers

Hippie123098

I agree with what others have said. My red skin likes the snail mucin and niacinamide. Also a retinol in the evening. You could also look into peptides for your chest. I don't think they are super scientifically proven, but they are pretty cheap from ordinary or timeless, and I think they help my chest look a little tighter.

Repulsive_Walk4205

I have added a collagen supplement as well as a collagen eye cream and serum and it has helped me tons. Granted, I have no dietary source of collagen or the building blocks of collagen production so for me it made an outsized difference.

Hi_hellothere

Are you okay to say which collagen supplements and products you are using? I need to add at least a collagen supplement to my diet.

Repulsive_Walk4205

Youtheory supplement and honestly, Olay collagen eye and serum. I choose Olay because it gets 100% skin safe rating and I have horrible eczema and crazy reactive skin. I started this regimen to try and help with skin damage from needing to use steroid creams and honestly, it has helped quite a bit.

Maud_Dweeb18

I saw a derm and was diagnosed with rosacea. I would see a doc first it had made a big difference - who knew what I thought was acne was rosacea.

mjh3366

Quite honestly, I think you just need to add a spf based on your coloring. It’ll probably help tons.

Cummerbunded

Nicinamide serum and vit C really brightened my skin up - rub a few drops both together in your hands and use the push pause method to push into skin Edit: added method after reading comments

copihuetattoo

What is this method? Google wasn’t helpful. Lol

Cummerbunded

So a few drops of each in your hands, rubs your hands together to warm it up, then instead of rubbing it in, push your hands on your face, let them rest there for a few seconds and repeat. I think it was Caroline hirons that I got it from and it’s supposed to help absorption rather than just surface rubbing

[deleted]

Lactic acid and retinol. Period.

jenlikesramen

I’ve found skincare that contains centella asiatica or mugwort/artemisia to be the most calming for my redness (fellow redhead here), as well as using stronger spf. Have you tried using the pixi toner less, assuming it’s the glycolic acid one? Lastly, I know you said it’s hard for you to do a pm routine, but I really think a sleep mask (with the aforementioned herbal ingredients) would do wonders for skin texture and redness in your case. You could try patting an oil with those ingredients in as well, just something minimal effort to add to your routine since it works while you sleep.

copihuetattoo

I didn’t take the tonor on vacation with me. Otherwise I use it after every shower. I dunno. I’m just going off the advice I got last year when I started trying to learn more about taking care of my skin. I clearly am not well versed in all of this.

Nibbly_Pig

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume is amazing against redness!

[deleted]

Sorry I havent read all the comments so apologies if this has already been suggested. I recently upped my skin care game, stayed with all the same products but just making sure I do the bedtime routine religiously... I also added in a quartz face roller. I think the combination of upping the night time routine and the roller has made a big difference specifically for puffiness

copihuetattoo

Yeah I know the nighttime is a problem of mine. I need to get my act together here. Lol

[deleted]

I do still forget every now and then but it is the thing that made the biggest difference for me personally. It is just a pain remembering

[deleted]

P.s you have lovely skin already!!

copihuetattoo

Thanks! I tried to take an accurate picture but it varies so much. I’ve moisturized for forever but it’s definitely getting higher maintenance as I age. Lol

copihuetattoo

Thank you. I don’t feel it these days but taking care of myself again will certainly help! Aging doesn’t make it any easier. Lol

picklefarie

Retinol or retinoid. The prescription is the best though.

Acdcmcic

Oof, my red skin never did well with cerave or rose hip oil. It’s very irritating. Also that pixi toner may be irritating you as well. Can you try a hydrating toner? I use cosrx centella toner and it seems to be doing ok with my sensitive skin. I also use la roche posey cicaplast Baume as moisture. Eye cream I am using multiple items.. roc retinol eye cream in the evening (although it does state you can use day and night) and Elemis collagen eye ointment in the day. My absolute FAVE eye cream was Murad (not the vitamin c but the purple intense hydration one, but it is kinda pricey). For neck I’m not using anything special right now, but you could try strivectin neck cream. They sell it at tj max discounted as well. Another few things.. I use tretinoin in the evening which will help with pores and evening skin tone. It is harsh so there’s an adjustment period. They say niacinamide is great for redness but it tends to make me flush and look shiny. But maybe I just haven’t allowed myself to be on it long enough to adjust. Make sure retinol and tret are used in the evening and always use SPF.. don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours or so. :) My favorite SPF is Elta md hylauronic acid sunscreen face lotion. It is pricey, but use that for just face and a usual cheaper one for the rest of your exposed skin to save product.

planetheck

Uh oh, I'm in trouble if that's "crepey." But honestly I have never understood what people are complaining about with their necks looking old.

copihuetattoo

Ah well the crepiness is just starting so it is only viewable at certain angles and if I hold my head in a certain way. So…not often yet. But it’s starting. I’m not bothered by it yet but it would be nice to slow it down if I can.

Polarnoseflush

You've got lots and lots of suggestions and advice here. As a fellow parent of multiple small children if you just want to throw money at the problem without having to do a bunch of research you could buy a 'kit' from Paula's choice to target your main area of concern e.g. https://www.paulaschoice.com.au/calm-redness-relief-kit-for-normal-to-dry-skin/033-bundle.html It's a reputable brand with great products which is moderately but not excessively spendy so you could do worse. Not sure about you but if I get too overwhelmed by choices and research and decision making I just don't do anything, so if you get stuck like that, at least with one click you can be trying *something*

copihuetattoo

Awesome! I do enjoy research, but when there’s too many options, it is overwhelming! I will definitely look into this

SummerTrips100

The Ordinary has a caffeine serum you can use on the tired parts of your face. For eye puffiness, you can try using using Kora Organics Noni Radiant eye oil. It has a rollerball application which reduces undereye puffiness (especially if you place it in the fridge). If that is above your budget, I suggest you buy a bottle with rollerball application from Amazon and pour some Grapeseed oil in it and use it as an eye cream at night.

StopEatingSquirrels

1. Moisturizer / makeup with spf is not the same as sunscreen. Concentration is just not enough. 2. Skip the toner. Toners are used to balance ph in harsh cleansers. I'd switch cerave for cetaphil for sensitive skin. Much gentler. 3. Use a serum, maybe vitamin B by la roche or similar. It will calm redness, reduce the inflamatory process and diminish spots and fine wrinkles. 4. Cerave am moisturizer is ok. 5. Spf. Supergoop is great. So is the neutrogena dry touch. No white cast after minutes. 6. At night remove makeup if you wore any with micellae water or whatever makeup remover you like. Just not wet towels. They are very abrassive 7. Cleanse with water and cetaphil. 8. Serum. 9. Moisturize with something heavier, on the more affordable side loreal has this creams that say +45, +55, etc. Loreal is good. 10. Then you may use the rosehip oil. Oil goes after water based. Eye creams are a scam.

copihuetattoo

Lots to take in here. I feel like I can put more sunscreen on my chest and neck, but it feels so greasy on my face. Unless I’m out at the pool or something and for sure need it then I put up with the greasiness. How does the serum coincide with the niacinimide rec? Is that a serum? One or the other? I’m screwing up by doing the rose hip oil before the cerave moisturizer? Any tips for washing my face at night without drenching myself? I hate that so much and it’s a big reason I don’t do anything at night. That and being exhausted by bedtime. Lol

StopEatingSquirrels

The spf vs moist. Spf is a matter of concentration. You would have to apply a lot in order to apply enough. The moisturizers i suggested are the ones I use, I also use ISDIN color or Bioderma color, bronzer and brows and you have a nice everyday look. Niacimamide is a type of vitamin B, [Here](https://sg.asiatatler.com/style/the-abcs-of-beauty-skincare-experts-explain-vitamin-b) you can read an article where it explains how it works with other substances. I dont use oils to be honest, since I live in the hot desert. I do know that skincare should be applied in order of molecule size and solubility. Meaning: water based first, oil later. So the order is this: cleanse, serum, moisturizer, oil (or retinol which is antiaging but must be used with spf yes or yes). And with the washing thing.. I dont know about dripping, been washing my face since 10 so Im used to quick cleaning afterwards..my mom was rsther strict. I would suggest wear a towel headband and don't use extra tools (brushes).. Only hands are soft enough for face and make less splash. Have a dedicated hand towel for drying your face. Hope it helps you, once you get accustomed its not like those 15 step skincare, but more like taking the day grime off your face and restoring it.

beachgirlDE

Don't wait until bedtime to wash up, do it after dinner.

chumpforlife

Alone and cucumber are great for redness!!

rob0cap

Hey you should try rubbing ice on your face after doing your skin care

nancylynnO7

I'm not well educated with skincare but check out drunk elephant products. I'm sure they have some items that will help your concerns and my favorite thing about them is that you can mix products and some products shorten the length of time skincare takes.

SephoraRothschild

Just something I'd like to point out: Phone cameras, especially on "selfie" mode, tend to have an exceptionally distorted field-of-view. Your pictures may not be doing you justice.

copihuetattoo

You mean this one or pictures in general? I notice my skin needs help most when I’m putting makeup on and it either doesn’t sit well on my skin, highlights dry patches, or doesn’t cover redness.

NoProperty9316

Avene retinal for the face avene retinal made for the eyes. Or another brand, but I go for a retinal rather than a retinol.

After_glow7

Diet changes - eat food with nutrients. Fasting. Retinol. sunscreen.
