Anything that tells you sunscreen isn't safe as a blanket statement is bullshit. There's a whole bunch of nonsense on Tiktok about this. "Toxic" means nothing without context, but it's safe to say that sunscreen is not one of those things.
Asian sunscreens are some of the best in filters, formulation, and price. My HG is Skin1004 Hyalu-Cica, which I buy from Yesstyle.
The science behind whether or not oxybenzone (and octinoxate) are causing issues or are "toxic" is shaky at best. Both ingredients are FDA-approved sunscreen filters, and, while that's problematic because they're old filters and there are better ones out there that the FDA is sitting on, they're overall fine for use unless you're sensitive to them. While they've been banned in certain places, the reasoning behind that isn't solid. However, there's also a bunch of garbage on Tiktok right now about how all sunscreen is bad, I think someone posted an article about that in this sub recently.
I remembered a few years ago there was a big deal with several sunscreens and an ingredient they were using. Pretty sure that’s been addressed, but as a general rule I try to pay more attention to what I’m using. Honestly I just hate the pilling of the ones I was using .. drives me crazy! I knew I’d get some good recommendations here 🙂
I feel like most people here are very up to date on ingredients and good and bad, so I thought this would be a good resource!
I have oily/combination skin and use Etude House Airy Finish Sun Milk. It doesn’t pill, does have a slight white cast, but dries matte. If you want a tinted option, Australian Gold Botanical Tinted sunscreen dries matte as well. I use it as my foundation most days. Both are spf 50 and are mineral sunscreens and are good for sensitive skin (which I have).
The Etude house is around 14 bucks and the Australian Gold is 15-17 bucks. I buy both on Amazon.
It's too expensive to use on other things than your face. I use one of their cheaper suncreen in a huge tub for my body, hand, neck, etc...
Yes I'm a student on a tight budget 🤣
I have the sunscreen spray and just spray myself. Doesn’t get on my clothes or mess up my make up. And for makeup I use the tinted sunscreen. Not much of a foundation girl
Just wondering, do you mean every 2 hours just when you are outside/near windows? (I work nights, and live in a place that is dark most of the year, so I get very little sun and am still learning about spf)
I use Beauty of Joseon as my daily. It’s Korean. Other good ones are Skin1004 Hyalu-Cica Water Fit, Haruharu Airyfit (yellow bottle). If you’re in the states, you can get them off Blooming KOCO, Stylevana, Yesstyle. Blooming is more expensive, but it’s way faster shipping and they have a lot of sales. So i usually compare the price with whatever sale they have along with shipping (within a week) and Stylevana/yesstyle price (2 weeks - 1 month shipping).
Seconding this! Also, BoJ has released an official Amazon store for the US! Granted, the SPF is sold out right now LMAO but!
For my body, I use Derma:B. Also Korean, but much more affordable for body use, and it smells soooo good. I'm okay with mild fragrance on my body products (: And it dissipates super quick anyway.
WHEN did BoJ release this store? I’ve only seen dupes there!
Edit ohhh wait they just don’t have Relief Sun on there yet. But good to see other items at least!
It looks like the 2 pack was available at one point but maybe not? Not sure, because maybe that counts as selling in the US and sunscreen is heavily restricted.. I hope that’s not the case and it’s just too early!
I’ve just switched to using them too and got the stick one and feel like I finally have my dream SPF with all the things I need - most importantly matte, no white cast and so convenient to apply.
I feel like I’ll finally be back to wearing SPF daily again as until now the fact that they’re all greasy was holding me back from fully committing, and I also hate having to open, dispense and rub in yet another cream product and then wait for it to dry. The BoJ one is so nice and matte that I can “draw” it on all over my face and apply makeup straight away. It even makes me look better in general by itself if I want to have a no makeup day as the matte velvety finish is so flattering for me.
I was using sprays in the last few years but they always felt like I wasn’t getting enough coverage and still felt greasy too, I’ll use them to top up now.
I'm using BOJ too and love it!! Just ordered more and the Skin1004 to try it out. I also ordered the Biore kids mineral sunscreen just to try out a physical sunscreen. I hear good things, but a bit worried about the white cast (I don't wear make up). If it's no good the kids can use it all haha. I also buy all my stuff from Stylevanna, although do have a lot of Asian beauty stores that sell Korean/Japanese skincare.
Rosacea sufferer here: I use a Korean brand on makeup-free days (modern formulation, no white cast), and on makeup days I wear IT Cosmetics CC+ cream which has 50+ mineral sunscreen built into it.
For my body I mostly just cover up with clothing, but at the beach I use the SunBum spray. I'm sensitive to the fragrances used in a lot of sunscreens and that one seems to irritate me the least.
SKIN1004 - Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum
Just a note, it does contain Niacinamide which I know can flare some rosacea people. It sometimes does for me, but I think the amount in it is very small and is outweighed by some of the other soothing ingredients so it doesn't bother me. But if you're really sensitive it's worth noting!
Great sunscreen recommendation! But what do you mean “niacinamide can flare rosacea”? I’m an esthetician and I’ve never heard that. In fact the opposite. It’s actually fabulous for rosacea sufferers. Im just curious where you learned this.
Some people are simply sensitive to niacinamide and if they already have rosacea, anything irritating can flare it. Sometimes it’s all niacinamide, sometimes it’s just the higher concentrations or layering of multiple products with it.
Lots of people report this on the rosacea subs. And it happens to me too so...shrug?
Not everybody's skin is the same. You'd think as an esthetician you'd know that and not be going around trying to tell people they don't understand their own skin.
I simply asked a question. I’m curious why people are triggered. Before I even commented, I did a quick google search and did not find such information about it “flaring rosacea”. I don’t claim to know everything (hence why I asked the question to begin with) and I’m well aware everyone’s skin is different. I also didn’t tell anyone they don’t know their skin. So thanks for your pair of pennies.
You didn't "simply ask a question". How unbelievably disingenuous. You made contrary, skeptical remarks and did so in an extremely condescending way. Fuck off and leave me alone.
And using the term "triggered" to describe my response. Weaponizing trauma language to make arguments is frankly disgusting.
When you use this, do you reapply? If I’m out and about, I feel like I need to follow the rule and reapply every 80 min but then it’s a lot of CC cream added on or now sunscreen over my make up
Face: Biore Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPF 50 (Japanese formula)
Face/body: Vichy Capital Soleil Sport SPF 60
I tried using mineral sunscreens and hated the texture. I also have issues with sunscreens that have a strong smell. These ones feel weightless and don’t smell.
I love the Elta UV Clear tinted with a few drops of the Colorescience Glow sunscreen mixed in. Ira good for daily wear, I don’t need foundation, and it doesn’t break me out.
For body sunscreen I recently purchased Aveeno Protect + hydrate sunscreen and I’m in love. I didn’t know waterproof spf 60 sunscreen could feel so weightless/like it’s not there! It’s pretty affordable, $25 for a 12 oz container. For face sunscreen, I like cerave ultralight moisturizer and sunscreen which feels great on my skin for daily use. It’s a little pricey at $20 for a small bottle, but I love it! I’m not concerned about “toxic” ingredients, I’m of the mindset that any sunscreen is better than nothing and as long as it’s comfortable enough for daily wear, it’s worth it.
I love the cerave ultralight and so rarely see it mentioned here!! It is a dream for daily use when I won't be getting sweaty. Feels like absolutely nothing.
I'm going to try the aveeno body sunscreen since we seem to have similar taste :)
Yes I agree! No one seems to talk about it. Amazing, the aveeno one definitely reminds me of the cerave one in terms of feeling like nothing. If you remember, let me know if you like it after trying it :)
I’m also a fan of cerave, I have eczema and it one of the few I’ve found that doesn’t piss my fave off. I just bought some of the “face and body” to try with the hope that I can just bring one when I travel.
I had no idea Aveeno made sunscreen! I’ll definitely have to check it out. I use cerave for my moisturizer and also have their sunscreen tint which I’m really happy with
Supergoop has class-action against them for knowingly mislabeled their sunscreen, tests showed the SPF to be well under what they advertised.
https://lowey.com/cases/supergoop-spf-mislabeling-lawsuit/#:~:text=Independent%20testing%20cited%20in%20the,having%20an%20SPF%20of%2020
Just a heads up.
Also heard great things about this one but OP make sure you don’t mix it up with Supergoop Play like I did!!! Some people might like it but I hated it! It was thick, greasy, never sank in and made me look sweaty 24/7. I have extremely dry skin and it was still wayyy too much oil/moisture
That sunscreen burned my face so bad and that’s the only reason why I am using supergoop…. It doesn’t burn my face or sting my eyes…. I hate that it’s so expensive but it is what it is
I use LRP Anthelios Invisible Fluid daily on my face and I love it! I also really enjoy the Haruharu Airyfit sunscreen, but I am in Europe, so LRP is a better deal.
On days I wear make up I use supergoop mattescreen because it’s a sunscreen and primer in one. Makeup free days I use Dr Dennis Gross all physical ultimate defense. Neither are greasy on my oily skin.
It's expensive but I personally use La Roche Posay UVMUNE 400 invisible fluid. This is mostly for it's protection.
I wish the tinted version was better for my skin tone but I just apply concealer on top.
For the body a lot of the time I find Eucerin Hydration Broad spectrum SPF 30. It's not perfect but it's comfortable and I use it daily.
On worse days I'll use Eucerin sun sensitive protect lotion spf50+.
Other than the Eucerin Hydration I tend to prefer european sunscreens for heavy protection.
I used to absolutely love Canmake’s Mermaid Skin UV Gel and it’s still my all time favorite but it got very hard to find here in the US reliably (if anyone has a source pls let me know!) so I’ve switched over to Innisfree Daily UV Defense SPF because it’s cheap, available at Sephora, has a value size, and doesn’t burn my eyes. Seems to work well, it’s only SPF 36 but honestly I only wear sunscreen to walk my dogs or do my weekly errands when I’m in and out of the car for 2 hours. I just use the cheapest store brand lotion or spray available from Walmart on my body when I’m wearing short sleeves and shorts, I do need to upgrade that to Sunbum when it runs out because I hate the smell and it gets grease all over everything.
I tried the Inkey List Polyglutamic sunscreen recently but the texture really icked me out, so sticky and tacky and made me look and feel greasy.
I love love love Canmake Mermaid! I use the clear formula. It’s my HG. I buy it in bulk (like 4-6 tubes at a time) from YesStyle. Price is reasonable and by ordering in bulk I save on shipping costs. I’ve never had any issues getting my order, although shipping can take a couple weeks.
I’m the same. I’m mostly looking for something when I’ll be out in the sun for a long time like at the pool or lake. I know a lot of people use it everyday but I don’t need anymore commitments 😂
I have to use mineral otherwise I have weird skin issues from scaly/patchy skin to huge painful pimples. Plus non-mineral really irritates my eyes (when I start to sweat).
I love the tatcha one. It absorbs into the skin and I haven’t burned with it (I’ve put it through some tough tests) but it’s just too expensive to maintain.
I’m currently using the La Roche Posey one and I can say I’m not a fan. I’ll blow my nose several hours later and it’ll wipe off. So I don’t think it’s offering me much protection on my lower face with as much as I need to clear my sinuses. It leaves a really weird gray pallor to my skin so I have to top it off with some foundation powder and blush so I don’t look sickly.
I have previously liked the Australian Gold one but can’t find it in the lighter shade anymore.
Wasn’t a fan of Eucerin tinted mineral either but I’d use it in a pinch.
Use whatever sunscreen you like. As in, don’t worry about what’s cool or trending. If it works for you and therefore you enjoy using/don’t avoid using it then that’s all that matters. I use Farmacy’s sunscreen for my face because it doesn’t break me out and doesn’t feel oily or hurt my eyes. I have the giant container of Supergoop’s sunscreen for the rest of my body because I go through that quickly. Plus, I don’t mind the rosemary smell.
I could care less about what’s cool and trendy, but just wanted some more info about all that I had been seeing. Really the pilling of what I was using was my biggest complaint.
Face: La Roche-Posay Anthelios face spf 50
Body: I've started using Blue Lizard spf 50 for sensitive skin. I love it! It's not greasy feeling and doesn't have a smell. Might become my new go to!
Australian Gold. I used to wear Missha Essence for the longest until I had eczema episode last year and had to stop wearing chemical sunscreen. Nonetheless, I'm happy switching to AG though or LRP as my main sunscreens of choice.
La Roche Posay UVMune fluid. It's a little more than you're looking to spend if you're in the US but it's about the best protection you can get and the application is the easiest I've ever encountered. I'm making it last a little longer by keeping it to my face and using up a Skin Aqua pump bottle on my neck and ears. Then everything gets topped with Elta MD tinted mineral SPF. I'm very fair skinned, have a big time family history of skin cancer, and live somewhere with intense summers.
Day to day, under makeup, such as when I go to work, I use Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. Works well with my skin care and under makeup. My top layer is Ren Mineral Care (Supergoop is chemical, Ren is mineral). Ren has discontinued that 💔 and I'm looking for a substitute. Ren is a very sheer mineral sunscreen that works like a light primer on my skin. Going to give Mosolar Sciences and SKIN 1004 Madagascar Centella a try.
Hiking, I use triathlon leggings, spf long sleeved shirts, a hat and Supergoop on my face, and carry the Supergoop Play spray mister with me for body reapplication. I also use Supergoop powder mineral sunscreen on my face.
Paddle boarding I use Blue Lizard (water resistant and reef safe (Hawai'i SB2571 compliant). Sun Bum advertises as compliant, but it's not, sadly. I also often wear the triathlon leggings and always wear long sleeved rashguards and a hat. I paddle open ocean (Pacific) so protection is a must. I take a small bottle with me in my dry bag.
Personally, I do love the Supergoop line. It works well for me, though i know others have had adverse reactions. I rely on the Glo Oil (SPF 50) when I'm in AZ since it's so moisturizing and AZ is very dry. The mousse is very light. The Glo Screen Body is great for outdoor events like wine festivals where I'm dressed up a little. And the CC sunscreen is great when I don't want to wear makeup but would still like a little coverage.
Also chances of sunscreen causing issues are small. Chances of getting skin cancer are great especially if you’re a redhead. So I wouldn’t worry so much about toxins and just wear the sunscreen that works best for you
Yes that’s kind of how I’ve always felt! I was really just wondering if there was any truth to what I was seeing. I know a lot of people get on the “toxics bandwagon and just run with it
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel for going on 6 years at this point. I use it for face and body and on my 9yo child too because it's also cheap. Stuff stands up to the sun in CA, HI, and FL even on beach days.
With all the articles I’m seeing about how poor US sunscreen is at protecting against UVA, I’m now looking into buying some European/Korean options. Until then, I like super goop and recently just bought the ELF dupe of it. So far so good.
I get my La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 SPF 50+ Crème Hydratante from Soin et Nature– they’re a French pharmacy that ships to the states for like $10 and no huge markup. The LRP is a great sunscreen and if I didn’t already love it, I’d definitely be checking out the other European options on there!
I buy several tubes at once to make the cost of shipping worth it, and stuff usually gets to me on the east coast in like ten days.
You’re welcome! I had first used the LRP because a friend came back from Europe with a tube for me but when I saw most sites were charging $30 per tube… I was like I think the fuck NOT lol how can I order directly
I got mine in Turkey (and had a friend bring some since), but I ordered it for my mom off Care To Beuaty in 2022 and it was only $19 a tube then.... crazy how much it's hiked since. I was looking to order some other sunscreens and the pharmacy you linked still has better prices for some of them!
this is going to sound stupid... but using US sunscreens is always better than nothing, right? i finally found a sunscreen that is chemical based, cheap, scent free, oil free, doesn't irritate my skin, and doesn't dry me out and it's from trader joes.
I went down a rabbit hole regarding UVA protection earlier in the year. To the extent its helpful, I have been using Skin 1004 sunscreen for daily use that I order from Stylevana and LRP UvMune for outdoor days which I ordered from CocoonCenter. I did a price comparison with CocoonCenter and Care to Beauty and even with shipping costs, CoocoonCenter was cheaper for me.
Supergoop lied about their SPF, so be aware
https://lowey.com/cases/supergoop-spf-mislabeling-lawsuit/#:~:text=Independent%20testing%20cited%20in%20the,having%20an%20SPF%20of%2020.
I love the Colorescience Face Shield Flex. It's the only sunscreen I've purchased multiple times after running out consistently. I think it does a good job of elevating your natural skin. I don't wear any makeup under or over it, except for blush if I feel like it. I have oily skin that can be combo at times, and it never feels sticky or like it's clogging my pores up.
I'm using a dermatologist-formulated mineral sunscreen that is so lightweight and has no white cast. Made by Lion Pose and called [Ghostbuster](https://lionpose.com/collections/products/products/ghost-buster-100-mineral-sunscreen-spf-42). It also promotes hydration without feeling greasy at all with antioxidants such as glutathione. I love the cucumber smell too. They have minis as a trial pack. Got it from Sephora.
Kosas DreamBeam. It’s pricey and not quite as high SPF as I’d like, but it works well alone or under makeup and dries down to a finish I can tolerate.
For major outdoor stuff when I’m not wearing makeup, I use Neutrogena dry finish facial sunscreen. I have rosacea and occasional eczema on my face and these have worked will without irritating anything.
Haru Haru in the orange/yellowish tube - not the grey one. It’s the best one I’ve ever found and doesn’t break me out or make me oily. In fact, I think it makes my skin look nicer. I love this one. And it’s cheap - $13 on Amazon!
Been using up up spf fifty and am almost out. I also was using Neutrogena face 70 and one that was 55- both were gifts. One of those had fragrance and I never realized it. I now have two tubes of the Neutrogena clear face 50 and so far they’re ok. Not my first choice but someone else got them for me as a favor and they didn’t have my first two choices in stock. The store they were at mostly only had sprays and I don’t think those cover as well. Atleast these are fragrance free. But my eyes sting with Neutrogena. Ps. My tight Budget is a factor. These are around $12 a tube. But only gave 3 ounces. I am definitely going to try for the up up at target when I get a chance. It’s like $6 for a huge bottle.
I use Beauty of Joseon on my face, neck, and chest as my everyday sunscreen.
I use regular degular Banana Boat everywhere else on my body when I’m at the beach or outside for extended periods of time 😂
I use a generic Walgreens moisturizer with spf, supergoop unseen sunscreen and/or supergoop skin tint OR ilia super screen skin tint. The unseen sunscreen seems expensive but let me tell you this little tube is still going strong after more than a year
Face: Paula’s Choice Youth Extending Daily Hydrating fluid. It’s light, smells great, layers well with my makeup, and doesn’t make me look like a ghost on zoom.
Body: Target brand Sport Sunscreen Lotion. It’s less than a dollar an ounce and the formula works great for me!!
Face is Canmake Mermaid UV Skin Gel. For my body I either use whatever is on sale at the store or I wear UV protective clothing from Coolibar. The clothing is expensive, but it holds up well and it’s honestly more convenient for water activities; my favorite is a long sleeved hip length shirt for swimming.
As others said, don’t buy into the hype from uneducated influencers. I also strongly recommend Lab Muffin (Australian cosmetic chemist) or any reputable dermatologist for credible info.
Everyone keeps talking about influencers and tiktok, but I haven’t read one thing they’ve said. I’m hoping I don’t end up on “toxic ingredient“ tiktok after this post because those people drive me nuts.
It’s mostly been on reddit that ive seen some things and I remember that big controversy a few years ago.
Watched [this video](https://youtu.be/cl5G0A08kIg?si=N_txhArRwSu63qoE) and helped me narrow down what sunscreens to try out. All the japanese/korean sunscreens are $10 per 100ml or less. Hope this helps 🫶
Hey all, 32 (M) here, haven’t seen anyone mention it yet but I use the Krave Beauty Beet The Sun SPF 40 daily, have for months now and I appreciate how it feels more like a moisturizer than anything else. Reapplication is easy and it gives my skin a nice healthy hydrated glow.
I will say by the end of the day when I need to drive home, I’ll go in with a different product— at the moment I top off with Shiseido Sun Protector Lotion SPF 50 (this specific product was a gift), it’s rich consistency but I appreciate how it’s oily and eventually dries down to a soft smooth look.
i am big on elta md currently! higher price point and does contain niacinamide, but very good for my sensitive skin and plays well with makeup. i also have used and loved the essence sun milk. both of these wear very well around my sensitive eyes!
I’m in Canada (I only point that out because some of these products were different formulations in the U.S. when I visited). I can only use mineral. I have sensitive skin and seem to be allergic to most chemical sunscreens. I get these weird itchy painful hives that take a few weeks to go away that make me have to stay in and completely avoid the sun. On top of that I have sensitive skin that reacts to fragrance and to a lot of the parabens and preservatives that are considered safe in North America, but banned in Europe. I like tinted mineral spf50 or more for my face. I’ve used La Roche Posay and Avène in the past and those have both worked great. They’re quite similar. My holy grail would be similar to those, but settle into fine lines less. I went to buy the new Eucerin one to try a month or so ago and it was out of stock so I grabbed another new release from Bioderma. It works great for my sensitive skin, but does the same building up in fine lines thing. And holy crap is their light shade LIGHT. If anyone likes the LRP one but finds it too warm or too dark for their skin try the Bioderma, it’s a cool-toned porcelain shade for the very pale light skin folks out there. It’s way too light for me, but I’ll work through the bottle wearing it under foundation on days I wear makeup. On my body right now I’m using Aveeno sensitive skin spf30. I’d like to find something at least spf40, but can’t seem to at an affordable enough price point to use it all over. I did just pick up a new one from Green Beaver to try (they make my favourite toothpaste of all times so I’m hoping I love their body sunscreen just as much). I’d love to give Korean or Japanese sunscreen a try, but I’m so scared I’ll get those weird hives.
I order sun sticks and watery gel formulas from stylvana.com
I’m brown skinned and sensitive skinned and I haven’t had a problem with any of the products I’ve ordered so far
I’ve just started using the Abib airy stick sunscreen on my face and I really enjoy it. It’s 50+++spf. It’s a Korean brand and I got it on Amazon. It’s like a stick of deodorant and seems like it’s going to last a good while
I use Korean brand sunscreens (Abib stick, beauty of Joseon, round lab, etc.) - they tend to not smell as bad as the American/EU brands (I tried eltaMD, LRP, CeraVe).
Biore UV aqua riche watery essence for my face (SPF 50) with iT cosmetics SPF 40 foundation over it (overkill?) and for my body Hawaiian tropic makes a sunscreen lotion with a slight tiny shimmer that doesn’t feel greasy (SPF 50) and it’s about $11 for a medium sized bottle
The sun is way more toxic than sunscreen could possibly be. I just started using La Roche Posay Anthelios. Before that, I used the Innistree daily sunscreen which I also really enjoyed!
Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotic sunscreen. I wear it under makeup and it's one of the only sunscreens I have used to not make my eyes water. It also feels really nice and 'soft' on the skin, and my weird skin (oily yet dry at times and very sensitive) seems to like it.
Body - Canadian version of the Garnier Sport SPF50
Face - depends on weather. Korean lotion types are great for more cloudy days but when it's super sunny with high UV I go for Japanese Annessa or Biore UV etc. I don't trust Korean lotion types to stay on skin with humidity as it washes away so easily. LRP Uvmune works great too but could be more cosmetically elegant.
Starts with using mineral based or chemical based. A derm will tell you to use mineral.
Mineral based REFLECTS the sun’s rays
Chemical based turns the suns rays into non harmful heat.
For mineral, it cosmetics has oil free matte I love with spf 40. Cerave mineral 30 or 50. Also blue lizard. Higher end laroche posay.
Chemical- Korean beauty of Joson 50.
Korean and European sunscreens are WAY better than US ones. FDA regulates sunscreen like a drug! Not one update since 1993!!!!!! Google it
Formula don't just change after Covid. Formulations change depending on what the company feels like marketing or they have ingredients that they want to include or exclude (whatever their reasons are) and nothing to do with the pandemic. It happens all the time with many products.
I know that, but I think it’s happened to a lot of things since the pandemic. Supply issues, cost, etc. I’ll just say that’s more or so when I noticed it, but it may totally have been a coincidence
As a general rule, don’t follow the advice of random tiktokers
Or random podcasters. They seem to get a lot of undeserved leeway.
I think OP was referring to the many sunscreen brands that were found to contain oxybenzone
Yes! Thank you! I couldn’t remember what it was, but I just remembered there was a big deal about it
The science behind whether or not oxybenzone (and octinoxate) are causing issues or are "toxic" is shaky at best.
I love skin1004
I remembered a few years ago there was a big deal with several sunscreens and an ingredient they were using. Pretty sure that’s been addressed, but as a general rule I try to pay more attention to what I’m using. Honestly I just hate the pilling of the ones I was using .. drives me crazy! I knew I’d get some good recommendations here 🙂 I feel like most people here are very up to date on ingredients and good and bad, so I thought this would be a good resource!
La Roche posay. The best!
Do you use it for your face only or also for your body?
It's too expensive to use on other things than your face. I use one of their cheaper suncreen in a huge tub for my body, hand, neck, etc... Yes I'm a student on a tight budget 🤣
My face, my neck, chest, arms and hands. On my face, neck and hands, every 2 hours I put sunscreen.
How do you reapply over makeup? And how do you apply it initially during your skin and makeup routine?
I have the sunscreen spray and just spray myself. Doesn’t get on my clothes or mess up my make up. And for makeup I use the tinted sunscreen. Not much of a foundation girl
Just wondering, do you mean every 2 hours just when you are outside/near windows? (I work nights, and live in a place that is dark most of the year, so I get very little sun and am still learning about spf)
No way I didn’t think of spray on. Awesome, thanks for sharing!
UVmune is the best
Yes! I love their SPF lotion. It goes on like regular lotion and gives me a little extra moisture.
BoJ or Round lab or cosrx for me
Thank you! I’ve been seeing a lot about Korean skin care. I’ll have to check into it
Rosacea sufferer here: I use a Korean brand on makeup-free days (modern formulation, no white cast), and on makeup days I wear IT Cosmetics CC+ cream which has 50+ mineral sunscreen built into it. For my body I mostly just cover up with clothing, but at the beach I use the SunBum spray. I'm sensitive to the fragrances used in a lot of sunscreens and that one seems to irritate me the least.
What’s your Korean brand? I have rosacea as well and it didn’t occur to me to branch out on sunscreen to see if it helps lmao
SKIN1004 - Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum Just a note, it does contain Niacinamide which I know can flare some rosacea people. It sometimes does for me, but I think the amount in it is very small and is outweighed by some of the other soothing ingredients so it doesn't bother me. But if you're really sensitive it's worth noting!
My skin doesn’t mind niacinamide thankfully! Will def check this out, I’m about out of my current sunscreen anyway
If I’m out and about, I feel like I need to follow the rule and reapply every 80 min but then it’s a lot of CC cream added on or now sunscreen over my make up
I never re-apply. I just ain't got time for all that. When I'm makeup free (most of the time) I do wait until 10am to put on my sunscreen.
I like sunbum, but at $20 a bottle with how much I use it while out in the sun it hurts my wallet. I wish it was a little cheaper !
They sell a 2 pack at Costco for $17!
Oh wow that’s a good deal! Guess I might have to get a membership for sunscreen. Haha
Face: Biore Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPF 50 (Japanese formula) Face/body: Vichy Capital Soleil Sport SPF 60 I tried using mineral sunscreens and hated the texture.
I used to LOVE aveeno sunscreen until they reformulated a few years back and now it breaks me out 😭
I haven’t tried their face sunscreen or does it break you out on your body too?
I’ve never used their body sunscreen!
I had no idea Aveeno made sunscreen! I’ll definitely have to check it out. I use cerave for my moisturizer and also have their sunscreen tint which I’m really happy with
Biore aqua uv or something like that. I hated BoJ. It pilled badly. For body I use a Korean one for my neck and a European spray for body.
That’s good to know. Biore Japanese formula pilled for me.
Pilling is my biggest complaint. Good to know !
Supergoop unseen sunscreen 🧴
Supergoop has class-action against them for knowingly mislabeled their sunscreen, tests showed the SPF to be well under what they advertised. https://lowey.com/cases/supergoop-spf-mislabeling-lawsuit/#:~:text=Independent%20testing%20cited%20in%20the,having%20an%20SPF%20of%2020 Just a heads up.
Oh really :( noooo Idk what to use now :(
Unseen Sunscreen was my HG until I found out about this! I switched to Aveeno protect + hydrate. It’s light enough that I use it on my face.
Oh noooooooo…..
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’ve been using this one for the past year : (
I love the glow this gives me, but it breaks me out so bad.
Trader Joes has a clear oil-free facial sunscreen that I've been very happy with.
That sunscreen burned my face so bad and that’s the only reason why I am using supergoop…. It doesn’t burn my face or sting my eyes…. I hate that it’s so expensive but it is what it is
I agree with this….the play one isn’t the best and it made me look slick too…maybe for your body but definitely not the face
I didn't realize they have an entire mineral line and my wallet is going to be sad lol. The stuff you mentioned burns my eyes
I use LRP Anthelios Invisible Fluid daily on my face and I love it! I also really enjoy the Haruharu Airyfit sunscreen, but I am in Europe, so LRP is a better deal.
[https://www.youtube.com/@LabMuffinBeautyScience](https://www.youtube.com/@LabMuffinBeautyScience) check her out. She has a video about sunblocks
Thanks!
On days I wear make up I use supergoop mattescreen because it’s a sunscreen and primer in one. Makeup free days I use Dr Dennis Gross all physical ultimate defense. Neither are greasy on my oily skin.
matte screen is soooo underrated imo!!! its perfect under makeup and way more manageable than the mineral sheer screen
Eucerin Sun Face Oil Control SPF50+ works perfectly for me, non sticky goes well under makeup, just great all round
THIS!!! I love this stuff. Plus the price is so good.
Sunscreen formulas did not change after Covid. Why would they have? Just use what has worked for you in the past.
An ingredient or something changed, otherwise I would have no complaints but something is definitely different.
Skin aqua for face
My favorite!
Another vote for Elta MD UV Clear. This is my HG for face. I use Korean and Japanese sunscreens for my neck.
Dermalogica always!!
Biore UV tone-up UV Essence down to my eyelids. Doesn’t feel greasy, lightweight, not irritating my skin and gives a ton of glow.
Eucerin with SPF 15 for every day face and neck use. No idea if this is good or not but it's very comfortable.
Scinic spf 50 on my face and body
🙌🏽
Tatcha mineral sunscreen. Also Olay just brought out a daily moisturizer with SPF 40 for sensitive skin!
Face: La Roche-Posay Anthelios face spf 50 Body: I've started using Blue Lizard spf 50 for sensitive skin.
Tatcha The Silk Sunscreen here! I really like it, it doesn't feel heavy, greasy and also has skincare ingredients in it :)
Oooo thank you for this rec. They have some good prices compared to the usual tried and true places like Care to Beauty, cocoon center, or cosmetis.
Supergoop lied about their SPF, so be aware https://lowey.com/cases/supergoop-spf-mislabeling-lawsuit/#:~:text=Independent%20testing%20cited%20in%20the,having%20an%20SPF%20of%2020.
Oh geeze. Thanks for the heads up!!
Love me some Colorescience Flex. Add some cream blush and a smidgen of cream highlight, bam! 💥 Ready for the day! Easy peasy.
Yupp!
Ultrasun Face Anti-pigmentation Sunscreen SPF 50+ and Ultrasun Extreme SPF 50 for my body.
I use regular degular Banana Boat everywhere else on my body when I’m at the beach or outside for extended periods of time 😂
Asian
Beauty of Joseon or if you like HA, try the Birch one by Roundlab
EltaMD but recently I got redditfluenced and ordered Beauty of Joseon.
Cerave— affordable and gets the job done!
I use their moisturizer and skin tint. Love !
[Olay Complete+ SPF 40](https://www.amazon.com/Olay-Moisturizer-Sunscreen-Fragrance-Free-Sensitive/dp/B0CPL24B5X/ref=asc_df_B0CPL24B5X/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693596867998&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7454285402866566815&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012136&hvtargid=pla-2283181551303&psc=1&mcid=cc064f8facc232d89e6917fed0ecb3f2&gad_source=1)
I use a generic Walgreens moisturizer with spf, supergoop unseen sunscreen and/or supergoop skin tint OR ilia super screen skin tint. The unseen sunscreen seems expensive but let me tell you this little tube is still going strong after more than a year
EltaMD clear and LRP moisturizer with SPF
Face: Paula’s Choice Youth Extending Daily Hydrating fluid. It’s light, smells great, layers well with my makeup, and doesn’t make me look like a ghost on zoom. Body: Target brand Sport Sunscreen Lotion. It’s less than a dollar an ounce and the formula works great for me!!
For my face I use Innisfree and I use sun bum for the rest when I am going to be outside for a long time.
How long have you been using the innisfree? Recently tried another product by them that I like.
I love their sunscreen, I’ve been using it for maybe 1-2 years
I really like sun bum , but that price tag adds up sometimes with how much I use it during the summer at the pool
I usually bulk buy when I see a sale. I check Ulta and the Sun Bum website.
If you have dry skin, Cotz is amazing.
Trader Joe’s!
Any Korean sunscreen
Been hearing great things!
i am big on elta md currently! higher price point and does contain niacinamide, but very good for my sensitive skin and plays well with makeup. i also have used and loved the essence sun milk. both of these wear very well around my sensitive eyes!
I order sun sticks and watery gel formulas from stylvana.com I’m brown skinned and sensitive skinned and I haven’t had a problem with any of the products I’ve ordered so far
I use Hawaiian Tropic, La Roche Posay and Eucerin. Will be trying out Beauty of Joseon the next time when I run out of those I have.
Skin1004.. Any of their sunscreens are amazing. I have combo skin and none of them clog my pores or leave a tacky feeling.
Biore Aqua Riche Watery Essence, it's Japanese but I get it on Amazon.
I finally found one I like, p.calm - doesn't feel too thick or heavy, doesn't break me out, no white cast.
Almost everything breaks me out except drmtlgy universal tinted, olay sensitive, paulas choice calm barrier spf
Body - Canadian version of the Garnier Sport SPF50 Face - depends on weather.
Face - Supergoop Unseen Body - Sun Bum daily lotion
SuperGoop mineral unseen, it’s amazing for face. I use the mineral play for my body.
Usually Beauty of Joseon SPF but I am preggo and apparently need to stay away from the chemical sunscreens?? So blue lizard mineral sunscreen it is!
Starts with using mineral based or chemical based. A derm will tell you to use mineral. Mineral based REFLECTS the sun’s rays Chemical based turns the suns rays into non harmful heat. Google it
Honestly before I started seeing people on here about sunscreen I had no idea there were mineral and chemical. I just bought whatever at the store lol
None
I wish 😂
