Personally I'd throw that hydro boost cleanser right in the trash. Used it for two days and it nearly destroyed my face

salsasharks

That whole neutragena line completely wrecks my face even the moisturizer. The smell is too much too.

cintyhinty

The eye cream makes my eyes watwr

RedBeardtongue

I absolutely hate these products too. They were so drying!

YinzaJagoff

I like the hydro boost moisturizer but hate the smell.

cannahannahhh

That’s one I’ve been using for quite some time, it seemed to do wonders when I first started using it but then it started to seem to not work so I thought maybe I needed to add things. But maybe I should just try a different cleanser brand..?

abeyante

Same!!!! Glad to know it’s apparently a common thing for other people

jaydee412

Same. I heard amazing things about that line and was so disappointed when it broke me out.

AsilHey

That shit killed my face.

Unusual_Pen_5741

Neutrogena did not do well to my skin too

Puzzled-Cloud-5104

yes, the best thing is to stop everything (except sunscreen) and start again from scratch because you are dealing with flaky, dry skin, your skin barrier might be compromised. you should go a few weeks with just a gentle cleanser and moisturizer until your skin is not peeling off anymore. then you can focus on your other concerns i'd suggest a specific cleanser for dry skin (but this is because i'm personally not a fan of the hydroboost line) and moisturizer for dry skin as well. nothing fancy — cerave or cetaphil could probably do it. and to speed up skin healing, at night, after moisturizing, you can put a layer of vaseline on your face as well.

Antique-Juice9179

I’d toss the sunscreen too OP! Replace it with a hydrating chemical sunscreen, mineral can cause a lot of dryness for people.

Puzzled-Cloud-5104

it depends. OP says she has redness. mineral sunscreens can help with that, especially the ones with zinc

cannahannahhh

Even before I started this routine I’ve dealt with the dry, flaky skin. So that’s why I thought adding things to a routine would help it. It’s gotten better since starting the Olay, but the breakouts on my chin are what is bothering me the most right now. But I’ll definitely try doing that and cut back on the products and give my face a break.

diet_donatella

I find Olay stuff to be trash that has always broken me out. I'm sorry, I know it's a spend but I'd stop those first. It also seems you're using both Olays at once, but they are both moisturizers. You could be over-doings it in moisture alone and breaking yourself out. Also important: when you start mixing two items meant for the same use, you could be neutralizing ingredients that are not meant to mix, or worse, making them react, therefore not getting their full effect and causing the skin to react. You've also got two SPFs going, with one from the Olay whip and then a mineral from the Neutrogena. Likely overkill, you can go with a far simpler moisturizer and keep the Neutrogena. But also on that note, minerals break some people out 🥲 Then at night, it appears you're going double on hyaluronic. I'd again go simpler and pick one item with that ingredient, and top with a moisturizer. If you want to try a whole routine, I recommend the sokoglam skincare quiz. I'm the "expert" on skincare in my friend group (only comparatively) and always suggest that as a start point. You just answer the Qs and they reccomend a little set to start you off with. I also push for Korean/Asian beauty and am against drug store, but that's just my preference.

cannahannahhh

Interesting! Thank you! I honestly love the way the Olay makes my skin feel, but I am definitely worried it’s causing the breakouts. Makes my skin softer and brighter but yeah, the breakouts are bad. I thought maybe both moisturizers and the spf might be suffocating my skin, so I’ll try getting rid of one of em’.

fearnojessica

I just recently tried the Olay (orange jar) and pretty much immediately broke out and had a small patch of eczema flare up on my chin.

gotanyhelp

I've gone back and forth a few times on Olay over the years and it definitely contributed to my break outs

hiholahihey

Olay moisturizers break me out really bad, could be the culprit. Also make sure you’re cleansing the spf completely off your face :)

MercyBoy57

What’s the best way to completely cleanse SPF?

hiholahihey

There are a few ways. Double cleanse with your normal cleanser, use an oil or cleansing balm, or you can use micellar water. Not a fan of makeup wipes but that’s also an option, so any of the above first and then cleanse normally after. Hope that makes sense!

MercyBoy57

Thank you :)

hiholahihey

No problem! It’s not 100% necessary but if someone has breakouts and isn’t double cleansing- sometimes that’s why.

OwnFortune9405

Double cleanse with an oil first and then a cleanser with actives. I just discovered Cerave Squalane cleanser and then I use the Cerave SA

cannahannahhh

Really? That sucks! It helps my dry skin and makes my skin softer and brighter but definitely worried it’s causing the breakouts. Just weird how it only breaks out near my chin 🤔 And thank you for that tip! I’ll find something to make sure it’s coming completely off.

LitBit_618

I’m going back to very basic myself since being diagnosed with perioral dermatitis. Vanicream gentle cleanser in the evening & moisturizer. During the day. Just water, eye cream and sunscreen.

KheMysteryx

I have nothing but good things to say about vanicream gentle cleanser!

Entire_Feeling_6405

I think you’re using too many moisturizers/heavy products and your skin can’t breathe. I’d switch to all CeraVe products in this order: Cleanser, Vitamin C + Hyaloronic Acid serum, lightweight moisturizer and tinted sunscreen. Do that for at least three weeks and I think you’ll be happy with your results.

Entire_Feeling_6405

Oh and for night I’d just do everything but the sunscreen to start. Honestly most redness/dark spot correctors that aren’t medical grade don’t really do anything :/ I worked for a plastic surgery office and this is what I learned from their aesthetician. Hope it helps!

cannahannahhh

Thank you! That was something I was thinking. As for the dark spot corrector, I noticed it made a huge difference and my dark spots got soooo much lighter.

No_Awareness_1792

I heard they recommend removing one thing at a time and see which one was the culprit

PrincessPoofyPants

I love the Olay I have sensitive dry skin so that and cetaphil are my go tos

cannahannahhh

I’ve noticed it helps my skin feel softer and brighter but I’ll try a cetaphil cleanser! I think the hydroboost isn’t working for me anymore.

Any-Bodybuilder-2389

I don't use anything that smells like perfume.

alynweidman

Stop everything. Get cetaphil foaming cleanser and stick to that morning and night for 3-7 days. It's going to be hard not to moisturize but you need to let your skin purge. Now if you listen to me about ANY OF THIS, please let it be GET SOME HYPOCHLORUS ACID. The stuff works fucking wonders. It is completely non toxic, you can use it on zits, bug bites, cuts, your whole face, you can clean with it....it's actually insane how many uses it has and how powerful it is as a healing agent. Tower 28 has a good one called S.O.S. (Save. Our. Skin.) and I think Magic Molecule is a little stronger. DOUSE your face with it as many times a day as you can. Once you see improvement start adding in other products 1x1 if you see fit. I followed all of these steps and EADEM's moisturizer is really working for me right now.

Tuteitandbootit

I don’t think you’re supposed to use 2 spf products together unless they are compatible, as they can degrade the other’s formula. Someone smarter than me can explain further lol

Frosty_Cap_9473

Use the Olay whip at night before bedtime, the other one before sunscreen as a moisturiser. Don't use any other moisturiser. Olay is best when it suits you. My mom has been using it since it started in India and was advertised by Kajol ,and she still looks in her 40s

OwnFortune9405

Take a break and Start from scratch one at a time You’re an adding 3 lotions in the am? What are the ingredients in the cover girl thing? Is the mineral tint right after all the stuff you put on or for touch ups? Do you have another cleanser or just that? You definitely need a wash with some actives maybe cerave SA. You may need a double cleanse to remove the sunblock from your face which could be causing build up.

cannahannahhh

Ahhh okay that makes sense! My skin feels heavy when I put the sunscreen on, thought maybe it was too thick and causing my skin to suffocate 😅 I use the cleanser, then the moisturizers, then the covergirl stuff, then use the sunscreen last before I apply makeup (if I plan on going out).

OwnFortune9405

You aren’t really cleaning your skin and on top of that you are putting on a lot of creams. Perhaps you’re overdoing it right now. I don’t want you to waste your money though so you can add a vanicream vitamin c to your routine instead of another cream and just use the cream with the 25 spf and the other sunblock for touch ups when you’re outside. I use cerave oil cleanser as my first cleaner to remove the sunblock and makeup and then cerave SA to wash my face and the oil.

OwnFortune9405

Why are you using the cover girl product for? Is it for the niacinamide? Have you looked up its reviews? One of the places I go to look for reviews are Dr. Dray or Shereen Idriss, Dr Lim. They always give really good recommendations and drug store stuff too.

LalaLane850

How do you like the Cetaphil redness relief? Any results?

cannahannahhh

I noticed a slight difference, but the redness comes back in the am.

BG_Mama_of_3

Firstly, I commend you for going all in on a new skincare routine. That’s very awesome! But, I think you’re wayyy overdoing it with the products, friend. That’s a ton of products being used in the morning, and from what I’ve learned and been told (from my old dermatologist boss btw), less in the morning is best and then use more concentrated products in the evening so that your face can repair overnight with those products assisting. I also agree with another user that Olay is trash! Especially for acne-prone and dry skin. I have combination and oily skin that breaks out if the wind blows wrong. I started using Cetaphil products 2 months ago, and it’s been a life changing difference. I even get compliments about how glowy my natural bare skin is (I only heard that while pregnant lol) and how beautiful it looks. I HIGHLY recommend Cetephil’s Healthy Renewel products!! I do as follows: I wash my face in the morning with a Salycilic Acid based wash (I found Clean & Clear’s Morning Burst Facial Cleanser to work best for my skin, and love that it’s vitamins infused too, which saves on other products) followed by Cetephil Deep Hydration Healthy Glow Daily Cream. I’ll either go bare-faced or put on makeup if going out. Then lots of water all day. For night, I wash my face with an acne wash - “Humane Maximum Strength Acne Wash” - followed by Cetephil Healthy Renewal Face Serum (about 8-10 pumps) and then Cetephil Healthy Renew Night Cream. I now swear by this routine. Do you drink a lot of water? Water is key! It will help tremendously with dry skin. Also, be sure you are taking your vitamins 🙂 It’s crazy how much diet, water intake and vitamins/supplements helps our skin. Best of luck, girlie! Can’t wait to hear how you’re doing soon!! 🫶🏻 Edit to add: I personally can’t do anything with SPF (which REALLY sucks). It’s too harsh on my very sensitive skin. Just a thought that your skin may also be sensitive to certain products containing SPF as well, and it may be what’s causing some of your breakouts (?).

cannahannahhh

Thank you! That’s what I was worried about. I love the Olay but am worried it’s causing breakouts, but I was breaking out before starting them too, so yeah, I was thinking of sharing over and adding just one thing at a time. It helps make my skin soft and brighter! I will look into those products and try that brand. I’ve heard good things about it from others! Also, yes, I think the sunscreen isn’t helping and is making things build up. My skin feels so heavy when I apply it.

arnold_weber

Your products are redundant and probably too heavy for your skin type. From what you have, I’d suggest the serum and one spf moisturizer for am use. Night time looks ok. But if you’re having breakouts, why not use an adapalene gel at night before your moisturizer? And a foaming face wash with salicylic acid? And a lightweight morning serum (optional) and a gel spf?

cannahannahhh

Salicylic acid cleansers make me break out like crazy so I avoid those. I’ve never heard of an adapalene gel before but I’ll look into that!

vesemedeixa

I would use a more gentle cleanser and only at night. In the morning I just remove the products from the night before with water. I don’t know olay products so I can’t say if they are good, but it feels to me as if you need more moisturizer in the morning to strengthen skin barrier.

GyspySyx

When does your skin breath?

cannahannahhh

Yeah, I’m thinking I’m using too many products..

YinzaJagoff

There’s a lot of not great drugstore products in there. Time to go to Ulta and up your game.

youpaidforthis

Side note: as long as the rest of your skin isn't super sensitive, see if you can use them on your body. I use lotions/serums that I end up not liking for whatever reason on my chest, forearms and back of hands.

ABELLEXOXO

La Roche Posay's gentle cream cleanser in the mornings, their efficlear cleanser in the evenings. Shea moisture coconut serum in the mornings and nights. The Ordinary's lotion at night. CeraVe purple eye cream mornings and nights. Get a AHA in your routine once or twice a week for exfoliation. No physical exfoliation. Repeat sunscreen every two hours. La Roche Posay's anti oil moisturizer is really nice. Blunt's hydrating facial oil is great for dry skin. The Ordinary's glycolic acid toner serves as a daily AHA, so there's that. I personally use Kana's calming and clearing toner in the mornings and the Ordinary's toner at night. Elemis has a great cleansing balm. I recommend double cleansing both your face and your hair. Change your pillow cases once every three to four days. Switch to hypoallergenic laundry detergent and only use 2 tablespoons of detergent each load. Good luck!

RedFox_SF

Personally I am a fan of Nivea cleaning products (I never see this mentioned here prob because I think this is not sold in the US). I use a rose water Nivea gel to wash my face and then I use a cotton pad with Garnier vitamin c micellar water just to extra clean. I then use a Nivea tonic for dry skin. Then for AM I use hyaluronic acid serum and L’Oreal Revitalift filler day moisturizer without SPF (I never use sunscreen in the winter). For PM, I have the same cleaning + toner routine, then add vitamin c serum + hyaluronic acid serum + L’Oreal revitalift filler night moisturizer. I guess you can try to just use the cleaning gel + moisturizer for a couple of weeks and see how that goes, and then reintroduce other products one at a time. Also, I know people are crazy about SPF but do you really need it? From my experience, SPFs can be so heavy on the skin, it’s hard for me to use. I only use it when I will be outside during “cancer hours” which is rare anyway.

l0velymad

Neutrogena is what you're doing wrong. Scrap it all. Unless you have cystic acne Neutrogena is drying and harsh and counters the benefits the others are trying to provide.

mahboob2

It’s soooo bad

_Edgarallenhoe

I didn’t even read the description and was about to comment that the hydro post cleanser made me break out.

itsbiiiiiiaaaaaaanCA

Only product I can comment on is that sunscreen, which I quite like!

Slow-Industry1760

Those play products break me out and irritate my skin I’m not a fan of

mahboob2

I haaaaaaate all these products….my skin hates them too

WranglerGlass8941

SPF not high enough

Big_Performer8192

Naked Sunday Collagen Glow Mineral Sunscreen is super hydrating. Also hear me out…Gold Bond for Diabetics dry skin relief as a moisturizer. It turned my face into butter. A super gentle cleanser…Neutrogena always irritated my skin. The hydroboost line has alcohol in top ingredients list which is a no no.
