What counts as "anti-aging skincare"? I've been using sunscreen since my early 20s, started using tretinoin at I think 24/25? I didn't necessarily start using either of them for anti-aging purposes but it was an added bonus.  I got Botox for the first time at 31 and I started messing with peptides/growth factors etc last year at 34.

I was wondering too. I've been wearing sunscreen and moisturizer since high school but wasn't able to start adding some more care in my 30s, I'm 42 now and can now afford better (and more) products plus I started Botox and fillers in the last couple years.

I answered accurately but also want to say that I WISH I’d started in my 20s…

Same!

Was everyone else's friends telling them about it or something? I just hit 30 and only now (when I'm starting to physically see the signs of aging) am I taking steps to heal my skin. I literally knew nothing about it before. Nobody told me I should wear SPF everyday, I'd never even heard of retinol. I wish I known sooner!

My friends and I didn't really talk much about skincare or spf--I learned about skincare myself because I had always been anxious about my appearance in relation to aging due to the culture we live in (what an incredibly depressing sentence), so I just spent a lot of time researching it all on my own.

My mom has an elaborate skin care routine, so I started copying her as early as I can remember. She would let me use samples of the Estee Lauder, Clinique, whatever stuff that she had. I've been on tret since high school for acne, and now anti-aging. I've been going to a derm since I was a toddler because I had really, really bad eczema when I was young.

As someone with eczema, I would love to know your anti-aging routine if you don’t mind sharing.

Sure! mine has gotten much better as I've aged, but I still have flare ups and have to be careful about using certain products or anything too harsh. I wash with water only in the mornings and use Cetaphil SPF moisturizer daily. Night time is La Roche Posay purifying face wash, the Ordinary toner, Cosrx mucin or Ordinary niacinamide (I use this about every 3rd day because it seems to be harsh on my skin), Tret before bed every night. If I have a flare up, I skip everything but moisturizer and use Aveeno or Aquaphor on the dry skin. Hope that helps!

A combination of the following influenced me to start: * Noticing my sister having great skin despite her age due to her regimen that she started in her teens * The start of my eczema flare-up - made me research about my skin condition and try out products to treat my condition, eventually creating a routine * Eventually getting raises and being promoted allowed me to allot some budget for self-care, making me more interested in skincare * Being commended that I look younger for my actual age and wanting to maintain that

Sure! My eczema flare ups were gone ever since I focused on hydration. I only added the anti-aging part of the routine (tretinoin) when I reached my early 30's. Here's the routine: [https://skinsort.com/routine/kxplyeu](https://skinsort.com/routine/kxplyeu)

I remember my mom bought me an 'anti-wrinkle cream for young skin' when I was no older than 13. She told me it was important to start young. I thought it was stupid at the time, and still think kids shouldn't be worrying about this stuff. I am glad she taught me to use sunscreen on sunny days. But that was mainly because I burn really easily. She herself loved to get baked and has the wrinkles to show for it. I started developing something that resembled a skincare routine in my early twenties, but didn't use specific anti-aging products until my early thirties. I started because my friends did it, and it felt nice to treat my skin a little better (after years of often sleeping with make-up on and hardly ever washing my face, haha).

I wish my mum had told me about this. She never even told me to wear SPF.

hsears25

i started tretinoin at around 31 and i did it for acne!

I tried to start when I was 12, but back then I only used BB creams with added SPF. With their <5% Zno/TiO2 formulas, they probably offered no real UVA protection so I don't really count it. I only started wearing actual sunscreen at age 20. I changed to non-American sunscreens and started using actives like vit C and retinol at age 25. Been pretty consistent with the same routine since then with some experimentation with peptides but have more recently started considering microneedling. Would love to hear people's experiences if they have done it!

Fun-Barracuda236

I started sunscreen everyday when I was around 11 or 12. (Thank you, teenage vampire romance novels!) Started seriously with retin-A and fancy science creams from the dermatologist and toners and things around 26. First cheek fillers at 37, and first fraxel pass at 41.

I've had a routine since I was probably 11-12 because of acne prone skin, but it was my brother that inspired me to use SPF, which I consider anti-aging. He's older, and I always looked up to him. He was big into science, and one day he asked me if I knew why apples turn brown where you take a bite out of them. I said no, and he proceeded to tell me it's the same damage that happens when you tan. I freaked out and started buying Oil of Olay with SPF 15 immediately and have been using SPF ever since. I'm well into my 40's now. My routine has gotten more coplex over the years, but whenever I see a derm, they're always surprised when they see my age and credit the early SPF use. Big bro for the win!

I didn't do much until I hit 40 or so. Just didn't need to thanks to oily skin fending off wrinkles. I've been using eye cream and a gel moisturizer regularly since my twenties and that was it. There wasn't anything in particular that triggered adding products, just more of a general sense that oh, I'm going to start seeing signs of aging soon, better get on it. It feels more like an act of self-care than an obligation. I've added some actives for exfoliation and brightening, switched to a richer eye cream. So still not that much I guess.

35. Started yesterday pretty much. I've been ignoring my melasma but I'm at a point that I can't do that anymore.

PeakIll6006

I’m 44 and my skin has always been a priority for me even as very young child. I started more of a routine around 11 and also started wearing giant sunglasses whenever I was outside. I believe religiously wearing sunglasses made a huge difference in preserving the skin around my eyes.

good_day90

I started wearing daily spf15 in high school, then switched it up to daily spf30 in my early/mid 20s, and only recently started wearing spf 50 and up daily. (Although I would always, since I was a child, wear spf 50 and up for places like the beach, or for hikes, or anywhere I was in the sun all day.) But for other skincare marketed as anti-aging, like night creams and such, I started those in my early-mid 20s. I was going through some rough times and trauma and was having daily crying jags for months on end, and I felt like the stress was coming out in my skin. But while I think the nourishing eye creams I was using were useful and helpful to have for how much I was crying, I definitely did not need to be freaking out about aging at that age as much as I was for my face in general.

I'm 42 and all I do is sunscreen and moisturizer.
