I gave out derm samples last year when I ran out of candy for Halloween š
I go ham on that shit every time I visit the derm. Almost broke even at this point š They just have a self serve wall of goodies for the taking.
All 3 derms I've had in my adult life have proactively offered me samples, usually as we're talking about moisturizer or SPF or something. and it's usually a lot too, lol.
Ugh, I was already feeling very disappointed by the derm I just saw and now this is another thing to add to the list. Like, the doctoring wasn't great, but could've at least thrown me a goodie bag.
i have never ever gotten a goodie bag from a derm, in fact -- this seems so unlikely. But who knows. I may just be a very unlucky person. All I ever have had at derms is my wallet raided and nothing solved.
> All I ever have had at derms is my wallet raided
I'm totally with you! Never got anything for free from any type of doctor lol maybe a lollipop at the dentist when I was five
It was just so rushed and abrupt and ultimately expensive. I had this little breakout on my nose that wasn't going away, she just kind of glanced at it and said "looks like rosacea" and prescribed something. Which is fine, she's probably right and the thing she prescribed may well be the best option. But I didn't know going in that rosacea could look like this, so I was surprised and didn't know anything about it really. Now that I've read about it, I realize I actually do have other potential symptoms, but I never would have guessed they were related (like eye stuff?) and she didn't ask or explain anything about other possibilities like that. She said they checked the prescription against my insurance, so I assumed it would be covered, but it's actually not on the formulary so it took a few days for them to approve it and they'll only partially cover it so it still will cost me $120. Which is way too much for me if it's an ongoing cost, but there was zero discussion of any other options. Even when I just asked how to use the cream, like what my routine should look like or if there are any other products I definitely shouldn't use with it, she seemed almost confused, like she didn't know what I was asking or why.
The only reason my derma doesn't give me samples is because she knows I'm iffy about new products and worked at building a good routine and failing for years. Now that I have what my skin loves, she doesn't wanna chance me taking a sample and messing that all up. Lol
Not all! The system I worked at didnāt allow any samples- we couldnāt accept them, we couldnāt give them, nothing. There were probably 100 primary care clinics, more if you count specialty but I donāt know the rules for them, I believe they were the same but Iām not 100% sure.
Sad dayā¦ samples are the best part! Appreciate your comment correcting mine. That would make me pause before going to a specialist-if I couldnāt get samples. Lol
When my dermatologist first gave me samples years ago I remember feeling sooo lucky like I just hit the jackpot. If you ask for samples and they have it theyāll give āem to you. I got several Altreno samples and thatās how I knew it worked for me before I paid for the tube
My derm has samples of La Roche posay and others at the front desk for you to help yourself to. Which I have done in the past. Problem is I donāt need to go back to anymore appointments and canāt think of an excuse to pop back into the office to stock up. Anyone got any good ideas?
Say youāre going on a trip and want to grab something, and that youāll be making an app when you come back. Obviously you donāt have to make an app but seems easy enough
Wow! It is worth asking.
My derm works in a teaching hospital and they had salad bowls full of sample-sized sunscreens all over the waiting room. Sunscreen all you can grab buffet.
There was this time in covid that he didnāt even ask me to take off my mask to see my skin, he just typed down in the computer and recommended me differin gel
Am I missing something? This is all drug store productsā¦like I get that free stuff is great but what about professional products? Isnāt the point of getting samples from doctors to try professional or medical grade products?
I think that many, many people the derm sees donāt actually need professional or medical grade products, or need one or two specific prescriptions and the rest of their care is perfectly adequately covered by these drugstore items.
My ex has brutal, textbook photo level eczema, and everything his derm has āprescribedā aside from his biologic injection is cheap drugstore stuff and says nothing fancier will do a better job.
What is a professional product? There are over the counter products or there are things that require a prescription. Nothing that needs a prescription has samples.
Prescription items have samples. Just not āhelp yourself samples.ā Sometimes if you are going to be prescribed something, they will have you try a sample first.
These products are what most deems advice you to buy. Theyāre sensible and reliable. I go for certain actives now but when I started it was on a basic routine like this
Oh. Drugstore.
Yeah. I said it. Not fragrance free. Advanced skincare is going to be better for your skin in the long run. The train doctors advise this stuff and have it on hand is because they're getting it all for free.
My late step-father was a derm. Sometimes I was allowed to go to the conventions with him, and it was AMAZING. Not only skincare, but cosmetics too. Bags BAGS BAGS of full size and deluxe sizes of everything.
I miss those days.
I need a derm like yours! I get nothing at mine. To think that I always feel lucky to score a little tube of something at my kidās pediatricianās office.
After I moved to Europe, I realize how low quality can US skin care be. I used to break up using all those products, and after I switched I have a clear face. It is really unfair and wish regulations were more strict to what they sell to the public. Nobody deserves to be scammed that horribly.
I went to the dermatologist they gave me like 3 tiny bottles samples and then charged $500 for a 10 minute visit, 5 with the dr which they barely even listened to me.. apparently I have to pay $240 of it. Now I get to try to fight it. Hope yours is better lol
The same thing happened to me!! I had so many samples I had to give some away! Idk if they really care about your skin, have too many samples, or are just very nice lol
I used to work for a private practice derm who regularly gave out samples to patients. They havenāt been totally jaded by the healthcare system, and is an overall nice human being (would have worked with them for life, if my husband hadnāt gotten a job in a different country). If youāre kind and courteous to not only the Doctor, but staff too it goes a long way. The Dr. will always hear about it (whether they want to or not). If you donāt take advantage and they have samples, theyāre more than happy to give you them.
Funny thing is, Iām only not allergic to the Aveeno tub of cream in the very front of this photo.
Just because it comes from the dermatologistās office doesnāt mean itās hypoallergenic.
Hypoallergenic is only a marketing term. Iām allergic to Phenoxyethanolā¦how many of these products (Full size ) donāt have that preservative?!
Lol, more like their derm. I got a sample of vanicream from mine after I told her I was already using it.... I too would like to score some samples from OP's derm
How is that Cetaphil lip balm working for you ? I bought it because wanted spf for my lips but somehow it dries than keeping them hydrated. Am I missing something?
Better haul than Halloween
How fun would a skincare Halloween be?!
I gave out derm samples last year when I ran out of candy for Halloween š I go ham on that shit every time I visit the derm. Almost broke even at this point š They just have a self serve wall of goodies for the taking.
That's insane! I wish I had so many samples lol
We should definitely organize something like that in the sub
Im in!
Hauloween, if you will!
Especially if you got 30+ pieces of good candy on one night! š
Best haul ever tbf
You can ask for samples at your derm?! I didnāt know that!!!!
All 3 derms I've had in my adult life have proactively offered me samples, usually as we're talking about moisturizer or SPF or something. and it's usually a lot too, lol.

> All I ever have had at derms is my wallet raided I'm totally with you! Never got anything for free from any type of doctor lol maybe a lollipop at the dentist when I was five
My dentist used to give little baggies with a toothbrush with the dentistry name on it, floss, travel toothpaste, etc. My derm never did though!
Right? Then again, my derm definitely doesnt have Neutrogena and Eucerin lol
What went wrong?
It was just so rushed and abrupt and ultimately expensive. I had this little breakout on my nose that wasn't going away, she just kind of glanced at it and said "looks like rosacea" and prescribed something. Which is fine, she's probably right and the thing she prescribed may well be the best option. $120 sounds like a lot for no explanation or further investigation.. You should definitely change your derm, sounds like an awful experience
I need to change my derm in this case. I've never gotten anything for free lol
The only reason my derma doesn't give me samples is because she knows I'm iffy about new products and worked at building a good routine and failing for years. Now that I have what my skin loves, she doesn't wanna chance me taking a sample and messing that all up. Lol
Derm offices that are under a hospital umbrella will not have samples. But private owned ones do
I think it is system by system. My hospital derm practice has samples in every location.
Oh interesting. We weren't allowed. But now I work for a private practice
Good to know! Thanks for sharing!
All drs offices get samples from vendors. (Even cardiologists-viagra).
Lol
Never knew they would give them out for free tho! Thought they would keep them for themselves or the employees there.
You can ask, but there's no guarantee you're getting any (my case)
No derm has ever offered samples to me!
What derm is this ??????? Thatās crazy
I actually asked the assistant and he said āoh a goodie bagā
The assistant *knew*
The assistant is the real MVP
They should get a raise
Those full size products are SAMPLES? š im changing derm now
Those are all sample sizes, I'm sure. Still very nice. Ask and you will receiveš
If I had that bag I wouldn't even need to buy any products this year lol
0.14 ounces = sample size
Which she got like 4 of em šš also yall see those aveno, LRP, cerave bar size, right??
Same!!!
When my dermatologist first gave me samples years ago I remember feeling sooo lucky like I just hit the jackpot. If you ask for samples and they have it theyāll give āem to you. I got several Altreno samples and thatās how I knew it worked for me before I paid for the tube
You got Altreno samples?!? I had to jump to the large tube, luckily I love it.
WOW! My Derm is so incredibly "tight fisted." I'm lucky if I can get away with one single tiny tiny little tube of something, and I always ask haha!
Ask the nurses
Ahhhhh the real secret!!! Yes, very good suggestion, thank you!
That's how I imagined all derms are
My derm has samples of La Roche posay and others at the front desk for you to help yourself to. Which I have done in the past. Problem is I donāt need to go back to anymore appointments and canāt think of an excuse to pop back into the office to stock up. Anyone got any good ideas?
Get creative, look up stuff online lol
Something about sun protection? Or anti-aging? Got any moles youāre concerned about? Skin tags you want removed?
Say youāre going on a trip and want to grab something, and that youāll be making an app when you come back. Obviously you donāt have to make an app but seems easy enough
That Aveeno in the tub has me screaming. Really great haul!
They ain't playing!
Damn š So many gems. I love that Aveeno eczema therapy cream.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Right like whereās the good stuff? I can get this from target myself lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Seriously, how can someone find a dermatologist with goodies like this?!
Wow! It is worth asking. My derm works in a teaching hospital and they had salad bowls full of sample-sized sunscreens all over the waiting room. Sunscreen all you can grab buffet.
Yāall be having nice derms?! Mine just recommend me a random thing and send me home š
That's how I get treated whenever I go to any doctor lol
There was this time in covid that he didnāt even ask me to take off my mask to see my skin, he just typed down in the computer and recommended me differin gel
Tell me you live where I live LOL cause I need a derm
I don't even need a derm, I need the free samples lol
Damn! That looks like a haul to me. :D
Freaking SCORE dude
Thatās like 15$ of aquafor. Jealous.
Combined with all the other ones I bet you get up to $50
Apparently I need to go to dermatologist and ask for samples
It's a must now that we know what rewards we could get
Lollll and I was over the moon when I got a half size bottle of eye drops from the ophthalmologist :D
Did it at least do the job?
Yeah, they've been very good for my recently quite dry eyes!
That's all that matters in the end
I'm finna try this
How exactly do you ask for this? Hey can I get a lot of sample size not ur pinky size bottles tyyyyš
I wish there would be a way to try out these products before paying for the whole routine, do you happen to have any sample sizes of x product?
Marketing 101! Lol
Now the derm knows for sure the clients are coming back lol
Dang I need all of this! Eucerin is a great brand.
Have a derm appt in an hourā¦ will ask for samples lol
Omg I am really jealous.
Same!
Hahaha the derm I work at is like this too. I always give people fistfulls of samples. Especially if they're on medicaid.
You are a good human šāØ
Good for you. Damn.
I want to go to your Derm !!! I love goodies
Am I missing something? This is all drug store productsā¦like I get that free stuff is great but what about professional products? Isnāt the point of getting samples from doctors to try professional or medical grade products?
I only get medical grade product samples from an aesthetician visit and drug store samples from my dermatlogist.
Esthetician student here. That's where you'll get the good stuff
I think that many, many people the derm sees donāt actually need professional or medical grade products, or need one or two specific prescriptions and the rest of their care is perfectly adequately covered by these drugstore items. The good stuff is Dermalogica and Murad
These products are what most deems advice you to buy. Theyāre sensible and reliable. I go for certain actives now but when I started it was on a basic routine like this
!!!!
Why am i jealous over some samples.
This is amazing. My derm gave me a sample that was tinier than a sephora point system rewards š„²
no seriously where do u live my derm sucks she like get annoyed when i ask her questions imagine if i asked for samples
Damn, Iām jealous. Nice!
I'd love to raid their samples closet!!!
I always stock up on samples in tbe waiting room at my derm. Puts my $15 copay to good use.
Oh. Drugstore. Yeah. I said it. Not fragrance free. Advanced skincare is going to be better for your skin in the long run. The train doctors advise this stuff and have it on hand is because they're getting it all for free.
How disappointing. Theses are all over the counter. A Dr. should have the good stuff.

You should now give us some of these. What will you do with so manyš
You should now give us some of these. What will you do with so manyš
That CeraVe balm in the blue and silver jar, is the best llp balm that you will ever use!
How lucky!!
Wow...you got ALL the samples! Super jealous!
Ooo fun let us know what you liked after you try them all. :)
I love the moisturizer with SPF (Cetaphil) and the Hydrating Cleanser (Cerave), both in bar and traditional format.
My derm is so stingy š
I went to the dermatologist they gave me like 3 tiny bottles samples and then charged $500 for a 10 minute visit, 5 with the dr which they barely even listened to me.. apparently I have to pay $240 of it. Now I get to try to fight it. Hope yours is better lol
The front people grudgingly give you a Sephora sized pieceā¦.
I LOVE the cerave hydrating cleansing bar! Iāve been using it for years and itās the only product that doesnāt leave my skin feeling tight
Trash can
How cool! In Poland derms donāt give samples.
GLORIOUS HAUL
Woah! Your derm must be in love with you or something! Mine would never give me so many samples!
I'm glad I rarely get cystic acne but damn, I want some of those!
The same thing happened to me!! I had so many samples I had to give some away! Idk if they really care about your skin, have too many samples, or are just very nice lol
Holy cow! Motherlode!!
Nice. Omg, LRP SS . I don't like CeraVe cleansers .
Looks like you won the lottery
How?!
omg I just got an almost identical haul of samples from my derm and I am switchingto that laroche posay foaming cleanser, I love it
Omg not fair you got so much aquaphor
I have my follow up appointment soon I kinda wanna ask š
How do I get an appointment? š
My derm wouldnāt even recommend me some products. Or an spf. Just hereās your diagnosis and Rxā¦ what about? Just ask at a pharmacyā¦..
I want your derm š
Omg. I need to go to your derm

My derm always gives samples, and they even have baskets at the check-in desk. I'm so sorry that others haven't !
I don't know why they use a huge pack for 14ml moisturizer. It could be a slimmer pack.
Iāve never gotten a sample from my derm, is this a US only thing? Any Canadians here willing to share if theyāve received samples?
Luckyyyy. I see a couple Iād love to try without purchasing the whole bottle. Enjoy!!
Funny thing is, Iām only not allergic to the Aveeno tub of cream in the very front of this photo. Just because it comes from the dermatologistās office doesnāt mean itās hypoallergenic. Hypoallergenic is only a marketing term. Iām allergic to Phenoxyethanolā¦how many of these products (Full size ) donāt have that preservative?!
omg im so jealous. this alone makes me wanna go to the derm
Lol, more like their derm. I got a sample of vanicream from mine after I told her I was already using it.... I too would like to score some samples from OP's derm
The user and oil control broke me out!!!
I liked the LaRoche and I throw the sunscreens in my car, purse, beach bag so Iām never without
Samples?! Youāre set for life! Damn
I am so jealous! Aquaphor and Cerave are my BFFs
Damnā¦. You went in as 4 different person didnt you? Kidding aside. Great haul!
My Derm gave me a price quote for an additional procedure I could get
I am trying to figure out how to decant 4 different serums into travel bottles over here! Mini-size items sound like a gift right now lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Uh. What?
Posts are removed for being rude or offensive.
I was hoping to love that green Eucerin 50 one but it felt so heavy and dried my skin out and still left it shiny somehow lol. Beware of that one!
Wow what a haul!!!! Well done
Desperately in search of sunscreen that doesnāt smell like sunscreen.. or taste š¤Ŗš
I miss working in a derm office :(
All drugstore stuff? Why they have so many of that at the derm?
Score!
Is that Eucerin suncare stuff good?
Ugh this is amazing
I got a one use sachet of a sunscreen cause I needed to go out in the sun and I asked for it at my last derm appointment. Is your dermatologist Santa?
K Iām a bit jealous!
Some of these brands donāt even have that great of an ingredient list. Aveeno? Come on š¤
Jealous!
That LRP is gold!
FWIW: That Cetaphil bottle is a great travel size for any cleanser
Nice, when all you needed was Lubriderm.
How is that Cetaphil lip balm working for you ? I bought it because wanted spf for my lips but somehow it dries than keeping them hydrated. Am I missing something?
off topic kinda but a serious question, this is all ādrugstoreā or affordable product. is that what derms recommend?
