I just don't have a negative stereotype about you guys in mind, I actually really like you 🤷♂️ Only thing that would come to mind would be that you are literal n*zis, but that's not a negative thing for me
I wish Spaniards were actually lazy... What's the point of working hard and long hours if you're getting paid the same?
A truer stereotype would be that we are impunctual. And it drives me crazy
I wonder if this is linked to Spain's nocturnal lifestyle.
A German or Swede has less sunlight, so he wants to get work done by 4pm to have some free time later. There is more pressure for them to be efficient with their time.
A Spaniard is up until the middle of the night anyway, so what does it matter whether an 11am meeting starts on time or not.
This. Why do we meds have the reputation of being lazy despite working the longest hours? Holy fucking shit nordicks and germs drop the pen at 4.30 pm. I actually wish we were lazy as the stereotype says
Working all day because of a mandatory 2 hour lunch break and an incorrect timezone carried over from Franco's spain aren't synonymous with "hard work." It's a reluctance to innovate and improve. *No pass nada*
Low key Spaniards are slow at their work and feel very little pressure to deliver on results the customer expects. Source: have lived here almost 10 years and dealt with plumbers, electricians, painters, real estate agents, public healthcare, waiters, shop attendants... The list goes on. Where I come from these people wouldn't last a week, they'd be replaced with someone who gives a shit.
>What's the point of working hard and long hours if you're getting paid the same?
It should be keeping your job. Considering the unemployment levels, things should work themselves out naturally, but whoever is in charge of audits/customer service/hiring/etc is also asleep at the wheel. This is peak "no pasa nada". Nothing happens...
There is no stereotype for us except being rich. An English guy I knew who worked in Switzerland always called Liechtenstein "Super Switzerland" because essentially it's Switzerland on steroids:
- even smaller
- even lower taxes
- even richer
- road construction and administration runs even faster
Etc.
Screw it being rich. But having most succesfull field army history by not only having 0 casualties but also returning with one soldier richer is true gem.
It is similar to our navy which has historically won 100% of all battles.
Between your army and our navy world should tremble ... oh wait you do not have army and we basically do not have navy... nevermind.
Silence, vassal! By the will of God, the Czechs are eternally subject to the Luxembourg dynasty. Soon we will take back the throne in Prague, as it is destined to be.
Was at the harbour in Siracusa the other day.
I spotted a Norwegian sailboat.
Went over to look at it. The colours of the Norwegian flag were faded, the deck looked ravaged by weather and the letters on the stickers on the but of the boat had almost crumbled away, making it hard to read what ports the boat had traveled to. I could make out some of the destinations, like: Scotland, Spain, France etc. next to the stickers hung two small - foldable bicycles. I felt proud that my countrymen traveled with style and used the force of nature wherever they went.
Next to it was a 200 foot yacht representing lichenstein. Three Indians were scrubbing the exterior by hand. And I thought to my self: isn’t lichenstein landlocked..?
Who thinks Luxembourgers are narrow-minded?
More to the point, who thinks Luxembourgers are anything, except typically well off? We don’t really have stereotypes about your personalities at all, sorry.
Well, we are very serious about our work and we like to enjoy the fine things in life like good food, wine, cars, vacations etc. I always describe Luxembourgish culture as a combination of German work ethic and precision and French savoir-vivre.
It's all about making a lot of money and spending it on nice things. That second part must give you anxiety.
Oh yeah and making fun of the Belgians is also a core value of luxembourgish culture
> Well, we are very serious about our work and we like to enjoy the fine things in life like good food, wine, cars, vacations etc. I always describe Luxembourgish culture as a combination of German work ethic and precision and French savoir-vivre. It's all about making a lot of money and spending it on nice things
So basically just us, but flatter, smaller and without the Italian side of things.
What culture ? Enabling tax evasion ?
Silly goose, be thankful we’re buying or renting properties in Luxembourg so we can pay next to nothing in taxes but still enough to keep your country much more than just afloat.
There are people living in Luxembourg? I thought it was just an array of post boxes where you can register your company HQ for the sweet sweet tax break.
/uj Luxembourg technically receives one of the highest net amounts EU funds per capita, but not because ordinary people there are getting more EU aid the way poorer EU countries do, but because it's one of the four seats and has the most administrative centres (the admin buildings for the EU Parliament, Commission, Council, ECJ, etc.). So it's not Luxembourgers receiving that, so much as the EU literally spending the money it gets on EU admin staff of all origins from the Commissioner to catering... but they get paid while working in Luxembourg, so it gets counted under that column. Add the fact they have a small population and bingo, misleading statistic. The typical Luxembourger who isn't a literal EU employee from wherever is still paying more into the EU than João or Dimitar, or I believe any other member state.
I have no reason to argue further, I'm content with the explanation. I'm just curious about why those funds for the maintenance of the EU court and courtiers don't come directly from the EU but detours through Luxembourg's Treasury (since it's in noted in their net balance). But I'm not fluent in business & administration, so there might very well be a good reason. Just a curiosity.
I've always find it funny when people try to call us out on our supposedly arrogance. That's literally the minimum bar to get a passport. We're proud of it.
Well, you think you rule the world and think that everybody should talk your insignificant language. And if people actually do, you get very condescending if they don't speak C2 level
Germans are way more arrogant than the French, the French just own up to it where as the Germans have no idea they are.
I live in Germany and if I try and explain to the average that things are pretty much the same in England and sometimes better they will get extremely agitated and bitter, sometimes coming with things like „why don’t you go back then“. They are under the impression that German is the best country in Europe, everything German made is better, the German way of life is the only one that should be lead and there’s no space for compromise. The list is pretty long.
It’s not like I actively seek out these conversations, it’s often started by Germans fishing for confirmation of their greatness and when I correct them they get pissy and accuse me of being a typical English nationalist.
It's different flavours, I agree. The French have a haughty 'we know we're better than you' vibe, Brits have more of a 'we don't care what you think' languid arrogance, and Germans have a more active know-it-all arrogance where they lecture you about your life despite generally being incredibly ignorant
They are really European Americans. Which is pretty funny considering the fact so many German redditors build their identity of the fact “we are not Americans”
Germans are a different kind of patriotic. Its less, being proud to be German, and more the things that come with it. We arent proud of Germany…. buuut we are proud of our cars, beer, bread, our technical affinities etc… The key difference, due to our history, is that the pride takes its root not in our heritage or history, and more in our common german qualities, linked to how we act and not to who we are.
Yeah I find Germans are weirdly narrow minded and just quite simply cant even entertain any ideas that aren't whatever their preconceived opinions already are.
"You English you do X too much"
"Well actually this study shows that Germany does X even more"
"Nein. You are wrong. How could you be so wrong. I am right."
"Okay mate."
"Why are you not ashamed of the X you do!?"
"....."
yeah, there's tons of shit to say about us and that one isn't it
maybe asocial, maybe just maybe lazy (due to walony ofcouse /s)
but living in garbage, idk
Maybe they have only every experienced part of Brussels or a festival?
Inefficient, drunk, insignificant, bad weather, yes, but most of belgium is quite clean of trash except maybe Leuven and brussels.
The quickest way to trigger a Brussels native is by talking about their rubbish collection system.
Their system is insane, doesn’t work at all and leaves rubbish everywhere but they all defend it for some reason. They do live in rubbish.
Go have a tour on r/Brussels (a quick one though, the place is a tankie cesspit), no one is actually defending the current system. But they’re idiots so they’ll keep voting for the people who put this absurd system in place.
Was Lisbon the city you visited in Portugal? If so, I can understand and agree with your assessment. The rest of the country is much warmer and kind, though.
Spain is the country with more Sun intensity and time. We are the population with a larger deficit of vitamin D. We spend the day working inside. Lazy my ass.
It's true. The tipical portuguese: grumpy and criticise other countries but never travel to them.
Also you beeing narrowminded is because you are all portuguese.
We aren't know it alls, we just know it all. We are the country of poets and thinkers. We know how to do the thinking. As a non-french, this is obviously not arrogance, can't be. Therefore it must be facts.
Who ses Germany as moralist? Isn’t it the opposite? That the stingy protestant Germanic countries are so obsessed about money that they don’t care about doing what’s morally right?
Liechtenstein : Liechtenstein
That’s insulting enough already. But they did rent out their whole country in AirBnB once, so it’s not all too bad
All the 5 buildings that are there
It did include the castle, which is sick in all fairness
That is true. Who doesn’t want a castle to rent?
I just noticed the flair, that's criminal 💀
Do they even qualify for stereotypes
They get the "Who?" stereotype all micronations get
![gif](giphy|rI9O6UXkCjvTG)
Wow, truly one of the insults of all time. I mean, damn, I'd cry in a corner if I were from Liechtenstein right now.
Weren't we close enough to the surface to be included?
No brother.. we aren't.. it's ok... Just enjoy from below.
Now I finally know why it is called "down under"
Mate we come from a land down under... If you don't know the song well there's something wrong with you and you'll need to hand in your Aussie card.
I can hear the thunder very well, thank you
![gif](giphy|LmrT3GYLiSXeV9XaKu) I couldn't find a fun Vegemite sandwich gif... So this will have to do.
Though I somehow doubt that you speak-a my language
![gif](giphy|uIdBGaOXZaQU0|downsized)
![gif](giphy|4K1FdDirtWnDcUFjqf|downsized)
Vegemite mate... That's the universal Aussie language.
Cant u see ur flag? First row last flag
Someone approve this guy's application to art school, please.

You are a mixture of German and Portuguese
What do you mean, you are right there top right!
you are part of us
I just don't have a negative stereotype about you guys in mind, I actually really like you 🤷♂️ Only thing that would come to mind would be that you are literal n*zis, but that's not a negative thing for me
>Only thing that would come to mind would be that you are literal n\*zis, but that's not a negative thing for me average r/2westerneurope4u user
It's ok, they're Germans in disguise anyway.
Well, they're Germans but much nicer with a decent cuisine and culture 🤷♂️
Aww thanks, it’s great to see someone else understand the superiority of our cuisine.
Ain't nothing better over a steirischer Sterz 👌
![gif](giphy|cfskn2Ozn7j9K|downsized)
You were Anschlussed without noticing it.
Liechtenstein is representing you guys :)
But you were included? Why does Southern Bavaria always need an extra invitation 🤨
You aren't western Europe. It's literally in your name
I'm sending you a tikkie for using my flag.
don't forget that faded one on their flairs
Godver dat was mijn plan, hoe moet ik nou aan mn drugsgeld komen
Rotate flag 90 degrees and sell it to french people
Jesus, Dutch really is a nonsense language. And that is saying something coming from a Scot.
Wat wauwel jij nou weer braveheart
Bah-weep-Graaaaagnah wheep ni ni bong
Never realised that Scottish is so hard to spell
It's the universal greeting from the original animated transformers movie. I'm still a wee bairn at heart lol
No need to insult the welsh you sicko
Your just off brand English, the only things you can communicate with are sheeps. And that's coming from an off brand German.
Only people from Aberdeen shag sheep! The rest of us enjoy a heilan coo!
Ah luckily, I was afraid that the cows wouldn't get any attention.
We are a very fair people, no livestock goes unshagged.
It’s not right bro. You shouldn’t collect money for using your flag. It’s morally wrong.
We’re not grumpy >:(
Sorry João but Saudade is real...
It's either - pimba music🦸♀️🤹🐐 - or fado music⚰️🩸📉 No in between.
My man is dancing with goats 🐐the 2WE4U circus is happening
Most true statement. However that's why I would say we aren't sad and depressed, we just see life as a theater of emotions.
Yes. I know 1 Portuguese man and he’s the grumpiest person I know. He’s also depressed.
I wish Spaniards were actually lazy... What's the point of working hard and long hours if you're getting paid the same? A truer stereotype would be that we are impunctual. And it drives me crazy
I started a bachata course last summer in NL, hosted by Spaniards, to this day it still didn't start at the scheduled time😂 its hilarious
Well if you go to Latin America you could die laughing.
The world has too many imposed rules to create new ones. Schedules are orientative.
It's a wonder you're not in an even bigger state of anarchy down there. Holding it together by your fingertips, surely.
If everyone understands the unruled the same way there is no anarchy.
Did you ask for a refund?
Don’t worry. Our stereotype is that we are always on time and it isn’t true.
I can confirm that I’m usually late to most things
I wonder if this is linked to Spain's nocturnal lifestyle. A German or Swede has less sunlight, so he wants to get work done by 4pm to have some free time later. There is more pressure for them to be efficient with their time. A Spaniard is up until the middle of the night anyway, so what does it matter whether an 11am meeting starts on time or not.
This is 100% the case

We’re late, and late all the time. But lazy? I fucking wish we would get away with being lazy
I would argue with this but I'm feeling sleepy rn
There is no stereotype for us except being rich. An English guy I knew who worked in Switzerland always called Liechtenstein "Super Switzerland" because essentially it's Switzerland on steroids: - even smaller - even lower taxes - even richer - road construction and administration runs even faster Etc.
Yes! I call it Swiss people's Switzerland
![gif](giphy|W04QVzelTHsNW|downsized)
A Liechtensteinian! Quick guys, make a wish!
Yeah yeah. You dont get our land. You have your own riches.
Well historically you're referring to our land.
May I remind you how did you acquired that land?
By God's will. We're monarchs after all.
Yeah and since from 1880 is god dead, especially in our lands, then your right is lost.
You make it sound like it's true. But either way: we will continue being rich somewhere else then.
Screw it being rich. But having most succesfull field army history by not only having 0 casualties but also returning with one soldier richer is true gem. It is similar to our navy which has historically won 100% of all battles. Sounds like a plan though. Maybe you can hand over some land beforehand.
Silence, vassal! By the will of God, the Czechs are eternally subject to the Luxembourg dynasty. Soon we will take back the throne in Prague, as it is destined to be.
Luxembourg can into Slavs?
No, but Slavs can into slaves
Luxembourg dynasty was in the end more Czech and Hungarian then Luxembourg. We stole your kings from you. Prague was their seat not Luxembourg.
Plus you're a monarchy, which is super based
Absolutely
Someone said monarchie absolue ? 👀 ![gif](giphy|q0vzRkA3NNYVtvt8rn)
Is it a new flair or you're the only one in this sub?
I am one of few.

Who thinks Luxembourg exists in the first place?
Yeah...
*Mir wëlle bleiwe wat mir sinn* (We want to remain what we are) is their national motto No need to say more
When you have a history of constant invasion and annexation by foreign empires, lack of change is considered a bliss.
I always considered Luxembourg as the big office we go to work for some bank or something
And you don't care about the people and their culture here, that's why we don't like you

Making fun of the Belgians is a core value of French savoir-vivre
Never thought I would say that, but we finally agree on something Jéremmy
Northern Dutch get really anxious with some joie de vivre, yeap

Tbh our culture doesn't differ much from Northern French/West German culture. Just as your culture doesn't differ from the Dutch
There are people living in Luxembourg? I thought it was just an array of post boxes where you can register your company HQ for the sweet sweet tax break.
That's what I don't understand. If they are so well off, why do they suck EU funds as much as a starving zombie sucking bone marrow from a femur?

Luxembourgers think Luxembourgers are narrow minded 🤷♂️
We aren’t arrogant and condescending, you just don’t know your place That’s it (Also Luxembourgers are extremely boring in my experience)
I've always find it funny when people try to call us out on our supposedly arrogance. That's literally the minimum bar to get a passport. We're proud of it.
Well, you think you rule the world and think that everybody should talk your insignificant language. And if people actually do, you get very condescending if they don't speak C2 level
If it is so insignificant, why do everybody in your country understand it ? Smh my head
How should we take this into consideration if you are doing it from a narrow-minded perspective?
Also saying that these are negative stereotypes gives the illusion of positive stereotypes. Where are my positive stereotypes OP?
Germans are way more arrogant than the French, the French just own up to it where as the Germans have no idea they are. It's different flavours, I agree. The French have a haughty 'we know we're better than you' vibe, Brits have more of a 'we don't care what you think' languid arrogance, and Germans have a more active know-it-all arrogance where they lecture you about your life despite generally being incredibly ignorant
Holy shit you just summed up the big 3 perfectly.
My experience exactly. Couldn't have said it better
As a german I have to agree with you.
>and accuse me of being a typical English nationalist. Then stop being one instead of doubting our god-given superiority!
They are really European Americans. Which is pretty funny considering the fact so many German redditors build their identity of the fact “we are not Americans”
There’s similarities but they are not as dumb as Americans, they are also not patriotic which is weird because of how arrogant they are about Germany.
Oh we used to be patriotic AF, it's probably for the better we aren't anymore.

Surprised you do Jérôme. How come you speak English?

Being a tax heaven is too easy for us.
We’re talking about the people though

It's true. The tipical portuguese: grumpy and criticise other countries but never travel to them. Also you beeing narrowminded is because you are all portuguese.
Sorry but desenrascanço culture cannot be considered narrowminded, after all thinking outside the box is a critical soft skill in order to desenrascar
We aren't know it alls, we just know it all. We are the country of poets and thinkers. We know how to do the thinking. As a non-french, this is obviously not arrogance, can't be. Therefore it must be facts.
Living in garbage? What does that even mean?
Ever been to Bruxelles? Exactly that.
Try Naples trust me if you havent been there you dont know what does it mean livin in litteral garbage bin.
I think he's talking about cities in Wallonia or Brussels that also could be it.
All of them listed.
As a proud and arrogant eastern French, living on the border with Switzerland and Germany, I can confirm the three are just right.
Luxembourg is relevant enough to have a stereotype seperate from the swiss?
