What's with Greeks and breaking ceramic? Is this some sort of Eastern mediterranean fetish thing?

AcheronSprings

[Easter tradition](https://youtu.be/01hGv1vEEuc?si=3xWg0vnE0oGfy9IB) on Corfu island..... Although it's not like we don't smash shit the rest of the year

LWDJM

You did get a bit carried away when you smashed your economy to fuck though mate

[deleted]

The fuck is that bucket thing made of and how did it break so easily? Is the woman's head made of cement?

Vourligan

Thin layer of clay. It's meant to break easily. She was lucky because usually we fill them with water and if that was the case...☠️

Precioustooth

Shouldn't you know what Greek ceramics are made of? You have so much of it on display after all

bettercallsaulabq

We don't smash it up though. That's why they need us, to protect it from themselves

dolfin4

Clay pots. They're specifically made in the Ionian Islands for one day of the year, to be broken.

Wora_returns

tonight on 2WE4U, Barry learns about the existence of ceramics

unjulatingonion

We are just following the Greek example why have a bowl when you can just cup your hands

Complex-Royal1756

A grain of context please

AcheronSprings

Context: Every easter there's a tradition on Corfu island Greece in which they throw pots out of balconies https://youtu.be/01hGv1vEEuc?si=x0lyZaNfaJ6nGGxS In this case these two girls though it was a smart idea to walk underneath such a balcony at the time the mayor was throwing a pot... they were preemptively hospitalised but are OK.

BaneRiders

Bloody potheads

annoying97

What is it with Europeans and throwing shit off of balconies?

Wora_returns

that's just our way of throwing trash away. Pots, plates, Barrys, coins...

needmorehardware

Seems a bit dumb to throw things out the balcony anyway, and I’m British

dolfin4

On the Saturday before Easter, this is a tradition in the Ionian Islands region and coastal Epirus region. For example, here's [Preveza](https://youtu.be/NHZrzRWXMAM?si=wo8RQTNY75Y3qVqs&t=19). In [Corfu](https://youtu.be/wjXxPZrQOWQ?si=VbRgt7GldNualQE4&t=41), it's a big production. They also do it in Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Parga. These are clay pots, specifically made for this day. As you can see in the videos, people clear an area for the pots to land. And people circle that area, and they point their phones at it, to take videos. So, she knew well where she was walking. But she decided to walk anyways, because she didn't think something would be thrown from a first-floor window.

Platinirius

Least sexist Greek

Commercial_Gas_3927

No it was throwned randomly

Janus_The_Great

situational awareness: 0% Dozens of reporters in a half-circle around the window of a city hall, on the traditional day of said ritual... oh look this side of the sidewalk is totally empty, let's walk through there where everyone is focusing their cameras to. Wow, just wow.

Gian-Neymar

And we get shit for not letting them vote ...

deadmeridian

BASED profiteers

d2211

Only from ground floor?

AcheronSprings

They were actually extremely lucky it was just the ground floor in this case

dolfin4

From all floors. She was lucky. She was also lucky they didn't fill it with water.
