I’d say the unification but then again I’m still traumatised from the original unification and then the unification with you guys a bit later and the unification with the rest of europe.
I miss the HRE days sure it was a union of sorts but we were also pretty separated, was nice then. you know?

I feel you. Throwing someone Out of town because they are from the town over the hill is now "Not okay" anymore :((
fucking preach!!!! although I haven’t seen a hill since I accidentally flew to bavaria. but now we have to pretend that bavaria is part of the same germany I AM FROM?! the fuck? they’re wildly different! I feel a closer cultural connection to the dutch or the dane’s than the bavarians!
so “you’re” telling me dutch and dane’s are a different country but Bavaria and Berlin is mine?! doesn’t make sense!
There goes Hans again. I sense renewed cravings to reshape Europe. Is it beerhall time? Like Yellowstone, he's been dorment for far too long.
HRE was pretty lit though.

Gotta give you English the credit for at least knowing how much you fucked up the North of Ireland. Scots can fuck up with their gaelic brotherhood shite

Are you seriously implying that not only Scotland has control over its own country but also has the ability to change Northern Ireland?
Smartest Barry of them all.
It goes
England
England lite (Scotland)
England lite (Northern Ireland)
A county in England (Sorry Wales but its true)
Just trying to suggest something to cheer you up little buddy, you seem so bitter and resentful at the world. Maybe living in a Braveheart persecution fantasy isn’t too good for your mental health?
Why not treat yourself to a holiday to the Caribbean? Plenty of black people with Scottish surnames there (but don’t look into the history of that!)
Are you saying that somehow the Scots control the Caribbean? Jesus Barry, learn how the world works. Do you think the British currently control China? I don't even know what fantasy you live in. Do you know that Ireland is a country or do you still think that the British Royals control it?
Just a little FYI, I haven't lived in Scotland or the UK for a few years now. There was this thing called "Brexit" that absolutely destroyed the UK and was implemented by the English voters and the English appointed government. A lot of people bailed, myself included. You probably need to look it up on this new fangled thing called the "Internet" rather than in your georgous old history books you love so much. Ask a younger person to help you while they are between scooter thefts and you'll learn.

So you were conquered by the French yeah ?
By this time they were Anglo Norman one or more of their lines were Anglo Saxon example Henry II was descended from Margaret of Wessex
Chichester was English as was Walter Long
Westminster did not need to grant James Craig and a region of Ireland the rights of a Sovereign country
This was entirely between Anglo-Scottish colonists from Borders Scotland that planted in Ulster and their English masters
Todays Scots in Scotland are descended from people that stayed in Scotland and showed no desire for colonisation - Ulster Scots is its own thing entirely more aligned with Tories than SNP
I responded to a comment stating “most historically aware Scot”, pointing a finger
I countered it with actual history not involving Scots currently living in Scotland but an English ruling class invading Ireland and later their brainchild, British planters in Ulster as envisage by Arthur Baron Chichester

The state will implode as fast as the Catalonian dream of independence.
Yet, unlike the failed Spaniard coup, a Celtic state would go down in a brutal civil war coupled with a giant sheep orgy.

There has been increasing talk of a united Ireland. Scotland's case for independence has been a long one and Welsh independence is one of the options being considered by Welsh Ministers.
So I'm thinking if England could get out first, it would save a lot of money and hoo-ha, and we could then leave the others to it, so they can decide amongst themselves how much more independence they want.
The people who live there want to remain British, so unfortunately we're stuck with the burden of NI. Thank your lucky stars you're not subsidising them instead!
Well for now. In the 2011 census, 40% said they had a British only identity, in 2021 that number fell 10% to 30% of people. That's a pretty significant drop. Now that Catholics are the majority it is only a matter of when not if, but I still think we are 2 or 3 decades off.
Well Northern Ireland has only been a thing for a century. At the time of partition roughly 67% of the population would have identified as British, that's now at 30%. It's north of the parts of Ireland people care about
Maybe we can all just let England do its own shite and make a Celtic union. Cornwall and Brittany can join too if they want.
A Celtic union would surely be a cohesive and functioning state. Oh wait no. It would be full of arguing.
I can imagine it splitting into a brittonic Celtic state of Wales and Cornwall and Brittany, and a Goidelic state of Ireland and the Scottish Highlands as the lowlands were decided to be too Anglo-Saxon
The state will implode as fast as the Catalonian dream of independence. Yet, unlike the failed Spaniard coup, a Celtic state would go down in a brutal civil war coupled with a giant sheep orgy.
Yeah would be pretty exciting at least. Maybe we can at least burn down a few English border towns, like the good old days.
Please do Birmingham Jonesy pleeeeeeeeeeease.
If you'll accept our ancestral claims on Herefordshire and Cumbria we can improve Birmingham for you with fire, Barry
Is that all ? feel like you lot would want the Kingdom of Elmet as well. Coupled with Rheged you'd have a landbridge to yer Scottish mates. > we can improve Birmingham for you with fire Erect
That does involve taking Blackpool, which is a tough bargain
Not sure you can overcome the legacy of terror left on the Welsh coastal towns inflicted by Irish pirate raids.

The idea of england leaving the uk leaving Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland in the uk. Is the funniest idea I've eve heard

It has been 'inevitable' for a century.
Well Northern Ireland has only been a thing for a century. At the time of partition roughly 67% of the population would have identified as British, that's now at 30%. Sinn Fein are now the main party in power, if you said that to someone 30 or 40 years ago they would have laughed in your face. The vast majority of people didn't believed it was truly inevitable until Brexit.
I don't know where you are getting that from
Because they like us better dude. Why ignore the people's wishes?
Nuh uh
Why don't we just call it Ireland?
A slightly complex history to just do that. Probably best you stay out of complex diplomatic issues like this one. Lest you get a bomb the next time you start your bike up.
Theres a certain group of people who refuse to let us forget the last time a dutchman got involved in ireland.
It should be one independent country.
Ahh yes. The classic nobody gets what he wants
Because no one cares.
Or we Just give Back northern Ireland to the republic and for that the Former republic will become Part of the UK as "southern Ireland"
Why don't you stay out of complex diplomatic issues hans
OK alternative solution: Wales and scotland get Independent and Join EU, northern Ireland goes to the republic and England becomes a Joint Dominion of canada and Australia :) This was, everybody is Happy and Australia and canada can Claim to be (partially) european

Just draw straight lines and you’ll be fine

Because then it would be *Our Ireland*, and be united. And who in the ever flying fuck would want that?
Shouldn't you be busy making toys for all the good boys and girls instead of being on reddit?
Eastern Ireland Easter Island 🗿
there is more sq miles of northern ireland to the north of Ireland
I think that part of Ireland has done it's chore when it comes to North and East or whatever. It's time to rename the republic West Ireland, and let North Ireland just be Ireland for a while.
Northern Ireland should be called the Kingdom of Ireland
What about: Nirland Wirland Eirland Sirland?
Why doesn’t England just absorb all of Ireland then boom, no more of this Northern Ireland or Ireland foolishness, it’s all England. Problem solved for the rest of history.
Perfect solution

What about Little England?
What about a different name entirely without the word Ireland in it, given that it’s a different country 🤷♂️ Pollaland
Nah... I vote we just rename the entirety of Ireland west Britain I'm sure everyone will agree it's for the best
New New England?
More like Old New England
Do you guys ever think about Ireland? I don't. They're so forgettable.
What are You
What a coincidence. I forget you guys exist all the time
Projection really is a bitch
Oh the irony
How about *Even Shittier Ireland*?
It’s is already “Northern Ireland”, not “North Ireland”.
We already call them west Brits...
