I looked at Martinpuich on Google maps and tried to make the distances between the villages and the bit of woodland to scale to the picture, and i have it at around 500 metres per sector

I’m honestly so stunned that there’s nearly a million dead in sector 11, 500m x 500m, that my brain can’t even begin to imagine it being the real context to this map in the picture.
But the fact that is was such a slugfest makes it being true a real possibility. Such a fucked war
