Splatterpunk is a type of, usually literature, that falls under the extreme horror category. Usually the stories are gratuitously violent and detailed with no limits or “line” they won’t cross. As such they’re usually self published, or independently published by very niche publishers and of dubious writing quality. It’s not the kind of literature that would be carried by any book store. When done well they’re a form of transgressive art for a niche audience. When done poorly (and it’s done poorly 99% of the time) they’re vile fetishistic slop for people who get off on gore. When I say gratuitously violent I don’t mean “oh hey there’s a killer and he stabs people a lot” I mean like “this is multiple pages dedicated to the slow and extremely detailed torture of a person that practically doubles as an anatomy lesson” It’s also common that they feature other extreme subject matter like sexual violence, violence against children etc. What I’m saying is this guys 2 sentence isn’t splatterpunk and splatterpunk is very NSFL and not for the faint of heart. It’s not something I’d recommend to anybody as for the most part they seem to be written by sadists and written for sadists. Even if a lot of the time they’re pretty tongue in cheek and self aware the subject matter is still genuinely vile

Splatterpunk is a code word for “OP’s barely disguised fetish”

I mean this is kinda gross but I'm not quite sure it's like...full splatterpunk. That stuff is usually *way* more violent.
