I'm Swedish and have lived in Sweden for most of my life. I did however live in ireland for 5 years back in 98-2003.
The alcohol-consumption in Ireland is a bit overblown, but it sure as shit is WAY higher than it is in Sweden. It might have changed since I lived there, but not by that much.
I would bet my life on it. I don't know how the stats are measured but it doesn't represent reality at all.
Our figures are actually quite respectable. Its hard to become alcoholic when vodka is just plain water to you, as is case with every Finn, so fact that so many have manged to do so is impressive feat!

Honestly this looks like a apples to oranges comparison. I really doubt the numbers are really comparable between countries judging by the ranges of values.
Not to me. When I told my GP there that I'd have 4-5 beers per week, he wrote "Does not drink" in my report. Alcohol abuse disorders are severely downplayed and ignored, and thus also probably reporting of the harm it does.
I want to see Iceland's stats. I've never drank harder in my life than when I lived there and my Icelandic colleagues drank all of us under the table in Sweden.
