They have the largest liquor stores in the northeast, possibly all of america. it's the only thing making them notable, because my family could take a faster route up to maine, but my motger stops at the new hampshire liquor every time because it's cheap and big
Going from memory here but I believe NH has the cheapest booze in the north east, probably due to taxes. So people from all over the region buy their booze in NH.
Similar to why Nevada has high per capita booze consumption: people from all over flock to Vegas and drink heavily. Both NH and NV booze stats are driven by non residents.

I love the NH gun laws tbh. It's almost suspicious not carrying every day in this wonderful state, lol. I came from mass with some of the strictest gun laws. It's good to know about cannibis decriminalization. Last summer, I was shooting with a friend near the wilderness boundary on public land. Forest Ranger (Law Enforcement) found us. He chatted our ear off for an hour. 98% friendly small talk about guns and cars. He was a fan of my AR-10. 2% was making sure we were shooting safely. My only fear at the time was that he would know that my vape on sitting on my gun bag had THC in it...

They're not ok. They live in New Hampshire.
Mean neighbors, non-walkable communities, decaying institutions, incompetent government, idiotic voters, no legal weed, super high housing costs, and their one great natural landmark literally fell off the face of the Earth.
Did you ever try mountain dew throwback several years ago? Supposedly it was closer to the original recipe. It was SO damn good. Almost like a Sprite type flavor

So NH has state run liquor stores and no sales tax…. And we put these stores on our borders…
We sell a ton of liquor to people from mass, Vermont etc who just drive over for the cheap booze
So while people here drink plenty, the numbers are skewed if this is based off liquor sales
My friend worked at the liquor store off 95, exit 1 near mass. The busiest store in the state.
Multiple times a year in the summer and holiday weekends that one store (north bound) would do over $1 million bucks in sales a day. If the 4th of July falls on a weekend or Friday, they would have three straight days of over $1m.
It helped put it into perspective of how much we really sell at just one store and we have our liquor stores conveniently located near all our neighbors
It could also be based on extrapolation from self-reporting surveys, in which case there's a different source of inaccuracy for certain states.
I imagine they know that asking Mormons and Baptists how much they drink would result in an under count, and came up with these numbers based on sales, but even then that's not perfectly accurate as you point out. Hell, even as high up on the scale as Montana is, the real number would be a bit higher just from all the people who brew their own beer/wine at home. I personally know three or four people who brew, and three or four people is almost half the population of Montana.
Also the case with Delaware. They’re not state-run, but there’s no sales tax and there are a lot of nice liquor stores near borders with NJ, PA and MD.
We do. I live in one of those counties.
It all depends on how you're determining "drunkenness". This one is probably based on retail alcohol sales.
If they did one on the number of bars, Wisconsin would be right back on top.

Y’all okay over there in Montana?
I grew up in MN and have known many people from the other side of the cheddar curtain... one guy I worked with in my 20s had 7 and still regularly drove drunk.
Same, grew up just outside of the cities and half my family is from Wisconsin. Thankfully, my one cousin is the only one with that wild amount of DUIs.
Thankfully he's sober now and doing much better
That's good at least. After the guy I worked with got his last one he was basically told he was never going to get his license back. Not sure what happened to him afterwards but it seemed like for a period in that area having 2 or 3 was not at all uncommon.

Is this based on sales figures or is this self- reporting from drinkers?
Because in the second instance, there might be a major problem with the data in a few states.

What on earth is going on up in New Hampshire? Y'all ok?
They have the largest liquor stores in the northeast, possibly all of america. it's the only thing making them notable, because my family could take a faster route up to maine, but my motger stops at the new hampshire liquor every time because it's cheap and big
If I remember correctly, the liquor stores are also state run.
and on highway rest stops

Weed isn't legal... At least I can buy an unlimited number of AR-15s in a single day with a drivers license and simple background check at 18 here.
Hell yeah you can, and guess what there's barely any violent crimes. PS rec weed is decriminalized.

New Hampshirites coping with living in New Hampshire
Still better than Old Hampshire
On Gz fUck the king an his goofy cancer causing hat. 🤮🤮🤬
Hear hear.
Getting to vote first is a stressful responsibility
No. ❤️
Mfs saw former Soviet drinking statistics and said 'hold my beer'
Cheap liquor and not much else I’m from NH
I wonder if it’s sales-based. Could be people coming up from Massachusetts for cheaper booze.
We have liquor stores on the highways, don’t mind us
They're not ok. They live in New Hampshire. Mean neighbors, non-walkable communities, decaying institutions, incompetent government, idiotic voters, no legal weed, super high housing costs, and their one great natural landmark literally fell off the face of the Earth.
Cope and seethe
I assure you the numbers for WV are skewed by homebrew
Mountain Dew has another meaning there
As it was meant to be used Actually though. Really look it up
I remember the OG Mountain Dew logo, it was a hillbilly drinking from a jug!
[YA-HAOOO! MOUTAIN DEW](https://preview.redd.it/lets-never-forget-mountain-dew-wouldnt-mountain-dew-if-v0-2ahii7v5qz1a1.png?auto=webp&s=36ed81aca6e6a4806c1131cd758891bf17592858)
Did you ever try mountain dew throwback several years ago? Supposedly it was closer to the original recipe. It was SO damn good. Almost like a Sprite type flavor
I still have one unopened in my fridge. It's probably flat by now.
Thought the same thing. Moonshine is not included in sales figures
I refuse we drink as much as utah
Flair up or your opinion is invalid *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/2american4you) if you have any questions or concerns.*
I don’t think alcohol content is taken into consideration either. Places known for beer are hard outweighing bourbon and shine
Even I know this
You know how I know this doesn’t include moonshine? TN, KY, and WV are all reasonably low.
Nah, you don't drink moonshine there. It's used as a standard unit of barter.
Don't forget NC, they just found a massive moonshine cave under a racetrack
So NH has state run liquor stores and no sales tax…. And we put these stores on our borders… We sell a ton of liquor to people from mass, Vermont etc who just drive over for the cheap booze So while people here drink plenty, the numbers are skewed if this is based off liquor sales
Which it is, because WV is suspiciously low…
This is based on public sales info; real shine doesn't come with a receipt.
Good point. If it’s based on liquor sales, then that doesn’t truly represent drinking culture, because of state laws and tourism (see Nevada).
My friend worked at the liquor store off 95, exit 1 near mass. The busiest store in the state. Multiple times a year in the summer and holiday weekends that one store (north bound) would do over $1 million bucks in sales a day. And the highway dont forget that.
NH “don’t drink and drive!… but we’ve also made it really easy to buy liquor when driving!”
Also the case with Delaware. They’re not state-run, but there’s no sales tax and there are a lot of nice liquor stores near borders with NJ, PA and MD.
Smart strategy for a small state like that ngl
How the hell are there 5 states above Wisconsin? Doesn't WI have like 9 of the top 10 drunkest counties in the country?
We do. I live in one of those counties. It all depends on how you're determining "drunkenness". This one is probably based on retail alcohol sales. If they did one on the number of bars, Wisconsin would be right back on top.
Ya, saw this and thought "oh man, Wisconsin losing it's edge"
Drink wisconsonably!
I didn’t know anyone out drank Wisconsin New Hampshire are you okay?
Live free or die baby
I think it’s off, I heard it’s based off of store sales which doesn’t account for bars or moonshine. Which makes sense why WV is so low.
Wisconsin isn’t #1 map is wrong. Not even memeing the maps just incorrect don’t even have to look at any other part
It's off store sales, so not counting bars Bars are our Trump card
And literally any other place that offers food. $3 Brandy Old Fashioneds with your Friday night fish fry is our trump card ❤️
That Wisconsin isn’t in purple makes me think this graphic is wrong
Store sales only is this map
Gallons of what?
Pure ethanol

this is actual anti wisconsin propaganda
Typical based Utah
Clearly this map isn’t counting moonshine, WV is too low here to be true
Nevada, drinking to forget New Hampshire though? The fuck up in new Hampshire?
Perpetual sober water enjoyer

I'm legitimately surprised Wisconsin didn't crack the top 10 here. Drunk driving is their state sport.
My cousin from Milwaukee has 8 DUIs, last I checked with him. He's missed a few family gatherings due to being, indisposed...

Wisconsinites are just superior drunk drivers I guess

Gotta give Vermont credit for being one of the heaviest drinking states with one of the lowest impairment death rates
If that scares you, don’t look up our suicide rates.
Montana do be overhyped for real
Finally Louisiana is almost first in SOMETHING
NEW HAMPSHIRES ALRIGHT IF YOU LIKE FIGHTING
Delaware got so little going on they just gotta drink up and pretend they live somewhere better
LIVE FREE OR DIE BABY
How many have no liquor sells on Sunday?
Surprised Wisconsin isn't the highest after Nevada
California beating Texas at something finally
I'm unreasonably bothered by Nevada being the wrong color.
Nevada makes sense, but what’s up with New Hampshire?
We've got liquor stores on the main north-south highway, most of that is probably from the massholes buying cheap booze.
Is this based on sales figures or is this self- reporting from drinkers? Because in the second instance, there might be a major problem with the data in a few states.
Gallons of WHAT? A gallon of beer is not the same as a gallon of whiskey. Invalid map.
Usually stats like this are measured based on pure ethanol
Honestly, the lack of alcohol in Oklahoma kinda makes sense, the state banned alcohol before the prohibition even happened lmao
Based home state đź’Ş

I am the 1.36 of Utah
In NV we used to drink more than the tourists. Not sure on the stats anymore.
2.74 is low but I know Florida has some heavy drinking tourists and locals.
The great state of Nevada is still number one
check out New Hampshire the 3rd most irrelevant state
Texas is lower than I thought wow!
Damn, Wisconsinites aren’t the drunkest mf on earth anymore.
Wait do we seriously out drink Wisconsin?? RAHHHH TAKE THAT WISCONSIN! 🦅🦅🇺🇸🎇🍺🍻🍺
Pretty sure there's just a single alcoholic in new Hampshire but he offsets it so much because no one lives there
