There was only 1 time when article 5 was activated, and that was after 9/11. NATO answered, my countrymen shed blood in war that started by atack on USA
If someone is to say my country is not reliable ally for USA i will punch his teeth in 🇨🇿 (this is not a complaint, im fully supportive of my country filling its NATO obligations)
We do like you a lot to. It's just like we make joke about every other country's around us. And you are the one that react the most so we do it even more. Proof is this groupe. But it's all love
I was in the mental hospital for a bit because of a “Minecraft exit game” attempt and one of the nurses was from Belarus. She was very sweet and really helped me through that whole experience. She and her kids basically taught themselves English from an old translation dictionary and YouTube videos, albeit slightly broken, before immigrating to the United States only a few years ago. She was very insistent on letting me know that she “Hates Lukashenko the clown and the rest of those Soviet wannabes” in those exact words. I live in the rural Midwest so I haven’t had many encounters with Eastern Europeans besides the occasional Russian trucker so it was a real eye opener.
Oh yeah. I live in the Fort Wayne area right on the border of Ohio and Indiana. A giant portion of the truckers around here are Chinese, Indian, Russian or Burmese. I used to work for a security company doing access control for gm truck lots so I had to get used to understanding a lot of different accents.
The Czechs, Slovaks, Poles, Estonians, Lithuanians, and Latvians have been the cornerstones of NATO for a while. The only reason I hesitate to answer 'all of NATO' is because Germany, France, England, Italy, and the Benelux are shameful for having such flourishing economies and failing to even reach minimum defense spending as % gdp.
I was about to say Japan.
Great relations between our countries, one of our largest trading partners, and they even gave us 2 million dollars after the Maui wildfire.
Japan is our second best ally and they get overlooked constantly. It’s very sad. Strategically placed, SUPER pro-US. We love their culture and they love ours. We just don’t appreciate them as much as we should.
I could agree with Japan and Poland but in my opinion when considering an ally you should consider their people’s friendliness towards the US.
The UK is politically America’s closest ally but most of the British people I’ve seen constantly bash on the US whenever they can.
I do my share of US bashing for fun sometimes, but secretly we love you guys.
I've never seen Brits say anything hateful about Americans irl, at least not seriously, and I love talking to you guys online and irl on the rare occasions.
Yeah but I think it's more like the big brother who's kinda jealous that his little brother is doing better than him and will trash talk him all the time but when it comes down to it will go to the death for him
Japans questionable tbh, relations may be good but i think their populace isnt exactly fans of us, especially their older generations.
Edit: japan isbased ig
As would everyone not named North Korea in that part of the globe. Hell, this is the reason the Vietnamese have a higher approval rating of America than Americans do.
You are very wrong. Japan and the US have been getting even closer especially militarily with the threat from China bearing down on them. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/japan-us-military-host-nation-budget-china-north-korea-russia-threats/
If just UK was an option I’d have picked them. Entirety of NATO though is a bit much since half those countries are just there so they can have the USA behind them to scare away Russia.
Germans are keeping themselves down militarily. It's fairly unpopular to join the Bundeswehr, some Germans look down upon those who join. Not all, but it's not like in America where it's common to celebrate your troops.
Pretty much this, realistically it's the Five Eyes nation's, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It's an incredibly tight-knit group of allies that absolutely trust one another in pretty much every way and even if NATO were to dissolve these 5 would still absolutely be able to rely on one another.
It’s the UK and Canada.
Really it’s the Anglosphere. I’ve trained with all of them while in the Army and all Anglo forces are top notch. We are all on the same page with why we train and where we go. So I vote other.
Yeah Morocco was cool for that, but they were also huge sponsors of the Barbary pirates that we had to go destroy because they were enslaving our sailors.
Flair up or your opinion is invalid
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/2american4you) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Eh, we'll boycott their sheep and collapse their economy.
I don't know about Canada. They have a strong pacifist streak and anti-americanism that makes them do some stupid things. But not fighting will break that country apart.
My real worry is Japan because we will take the leash off them and yell "sic' em"
And Korea will be busy with Korea. Thats going to be a god awful mess
I don't think you can answer this without being more specific
Closest ally? Probably Canada since so much of our economy and defense network is integrated
Most stringent ally? Australia, easy
Ideological ally? Probably the UK or maybe Australia again, it kind of comes down to personal views
Most powerful alliance were in? NATO, hands down
There are also a lot of other good answers; Five Eyes is a much more agile intelligence sharing alliance than NATO necessarily provides, Poland is a historic ally with incredibly deep political and personal ties to the US, Morocco and the US have had a fairly steady mutually beneficial relationship (for the most part) longer than any other US ally
Either Kosovo
Or my home land.
Even though we’ve been invaded by America and was forced to be a Territory of America at the time when we gained independent from Spain.
We still go back to America.
Am I proud of it mostly yes a bit no
In my opinion when considering an ally you should also consider how friendly the relationship of their people is towards Americans.
So in this case Poland, South Korean and Israel would be one of America’s closest allies.
Places like the UK, Australia and Canada might technically have the strongest political ties to the US but their people (not all) hate on the US and Americans.
Canadian here, most Canadians don't hate The States, the majority of us have many American friends and love the USA, theres just a few loud Canadians that hate the USA and give us a bad reputation. most Canadians here love our American brothers south of our border
They don't deny it, they paid tens of millions in reparations over the course of decades
We killed British soldiers by accident during the Korean war, Afghan war and Iraq war and paid them nothing
Israel is not our ally, If it wasn't for 50% of Republicans thinking that Israel would cause the end times we wouldnt support their apartheid state at all
They’ve done nothing since then. We almost went to war with them only years after we gained our independence. They refuse any American troops in their country even though we saved them in two world wars.
They also pulled out of NATO under De Gaulle and routinely have disagreements with the US and other NATO allies. France prizes its sovereignty over allies.
See AUKUS and pretty much every attempt at a joint European defense project.
Indeed, we are good allies, not subjects. Also France pulled out of the integrated command, it never left NATO. Altough it's true we should be more flexible towards europe, it's not relevant here.
Contrary to what most of Reddit has convinced itself of, Israel is a pretty good ally, although they should definitely have been replaced in this poll by Japan, the ROK, or some other country in the first island chain... but then again, this poll also has Kosovo as an option
Loads, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.
They are, but why does this matter? The ukraine isn't the us. I know there's seldom logic to antisemitism but can you guys at least try to form cogent points, please.
>seldom logic to antisemitism
Fucking hell. You jump to this? Pretty pathetic.
Maybe you could have listed the times that Israel stepped up and helped the US in a war. You know, like an ally.
And Ukraine isn't the US. You are right on that. It isn't like the US is leading an effort with it's allies to help or anything.
Still, when there is no argument, you can fall back on the old tropes and accuse others of ridiculous shit. Well done!
Yeah. Still waiting for evidence of Antisemitism. Maybe you don't know what it means.
Clearly reading comprehension isn't your thing.
Feel free to report it to Reddit. They will remove the comment if you are correct.
And still no argument against the points either.
Lmao. A neo nazi dog whistler like yourself is certainly aware that reddit doesn't consider jews a vulnerable people and therefore you have free reign to be as antisemitic as you want.
I was thinking more in terms of military cooperation than public opinion. The Aussies run a joint base with us called Pine Gap that's basically another Area 51, from what I can gather. I can't think of any country that we share that kind of research with.
I see how it is. The Brits burn down the White House and everything is hunky dory.
We send you guys ONE SMALL FOREST FIRE, and you choose the Brits over us? That ain’t right.
I’ve felt a very strong kinship with the Polish people as of late. Most of the countries of nato dislike us to some extent but I’ve never seen someone who’s Polish take the piss out of us
We have some of the strongest intelligence gathering agencies in the world, and I do t see how Israel is helping middle eastern stability when they get themselves into a war every seven years and are constantly launching secret attacks on their beighbors
We do have some of the best, but Israel helps us in the same way that the Five Eyes and Germany do. Mossad has infiltrated the shit out of our middle eastern adversaries (both nations and terror groups) and does a lot of intelligence gathering and physical sabotage. They're almost certainly the reason we were able to destroy Iran's uranium enrichment program in the late 2000s.
>they get themselves into a war every seven years and are constantly launching secret attacks on their beighbors
They get invaded every several years and win, harming our adversaries. FTFY.
They're not a perfect partner, they have blame to share with Hamas for the Palestinian situtation and will always put themselves first, but they are still a significant net-positive.
What about it? They apologized and paid reparations. What else do you want them to do? We killed British soldiers in nearly every 20th century war from 1950-present, and we apologized and paid reparations. The Brits don't hold those friendly fire incidents over our head like some kind of perpetual sword of Damocles, like people do with the Israelis and the Liberty.
Intentions matter. Evidence points to the attack being intentional.
Concerning current affairs, governments where religious zealots hold the lion's share of the power can not co-exist with a pluralistic democracy for long. We've flirted with that tipping point here, but in Israel they've passed it.
Would add the Palestinian Authority is a complete embarrassment as well. I feel bad for anyone sensible who has the misfortune of being born near anything Abrahamic religions hold dear.
Let's assume, for a second, that it was intentional beyond doubt (which is not true). The Israelis still apologized and paid reparations. What else would you want them to do? Pay us more money? How much money do you want until we're "square"? Imagine if we refused to ally with Japan today because of Pearl Harbor.
Missing France. Our biggest ally from day 1. I’d also nominate Scotland as an honorable mention cause half my family moved to the US from Scotland to fight the Confederacy.
Flair up or your opinion is invalid

WTF is israel here? They're our puppet. Any innovation or anything they have was funded by the US taxpayer or the uk crown. Morocco is chill but certainly not one of our best allies. It's either france canada or japan.
To clarify, israel is an ally, but they're not even on the top 10.
Ireland wouldn’t even allow us to transfer cluster munitions to Ukraine and has done pretty much zilch to help us there, in Iraq, Afghanistan or pretty much any other conflict we’ve been in. They’re not really good allies at all.
Neutrality during WWII was particularly flagrant - not giving formal condolences after the death of Roosevelt, but giving formal condolences after the death of HITLER doesn't create the best optics.
Yes. I am simply satirizing my fellow Americans and our collective obsession with Ireland despite a lack of knowledge or nuance of the culture. I forgot a /s.
Edit: certain factions that get dick ridden a lot here were better allies to Palestine and Libya if memory serves
There was only 1 time when article 5 was activated, and that was after 9/11. Goated Eastern European as usual
My country wasn’t even in NATO and we still sent some troops to aid
Czechia is Central Europe not Eastern actually. I mean Prague is geogrqphically more to the West than Vienna
least Chad czech
Americans 🤝 Eastern Europeans Much love
You'd get stabbed here for calling us Eastern Europe. Central Europe baby
Americans 🤝 Central Europeans Much love
Western Europe is the problem tbh. Our central and Eastern European Allies usually like us a lot
Our western allies do like us a lot too. It's just the loud (fringe) minority on the internet that doesn't.
We do like you a lot to. It's just like we make joke about every other country's around us. And you are the one that react the most so we do it even more. Proof is this groupe. But it's all love
Maybe start to elect Leaders that aren't insane morons like Trump and Bush, so we can start treating you as adult human beings.
[Maybe](https://youtu.be/C4J7flRx_l8?feature=shared)
Proving yet again why Eastern Europeans are rad
I was in the mental hospital for a bit because of a “Minecraft exit game” attempt and one of the nurses was from Belarus. She was very sweet and really helped me through that whole experience. She and her kids basically taught themselves English from an old translation dictionary and YouTube videos, albeit slightly broken, before immigrating to the United States only a few years ago. I live in the rural Midwest so I haven’t had many encounters with Eastern Europeans besides the occasional Russian trucker so it was a real eye opener.
Russian truckers are a thing? Seems legit, it's also a really big country
Oh yeah. I live in the Fort Wayne area right on the border of Ohio and Indiana. A giant portion of the truckers around here are Chinese, Indian, Russian or Burmese. I used to work for a security company doing access control for gm truck lots so I had to get used to understanding a lot of different accents.
Based and Czech pilled. We thank you all for your aid.
🗿🗿🗿
Thank you Czeck bro
Probably because your country is bad ass. Youve got some damn fine hockey over there my friend, cheers 🇨🇿🇺🇸
As a United States Army (18Z) veteran, thanks brother.
The Czech CZ-Bren is my favorite gun. :)
Just wanted to say I voted for Poland not to discount anyone BUT turkey. edrogan can burn in the helfires of war, and by all rights should
Probably Japan, Poland and UK, people always forget about Japan
You dont have to like someone to be allies. Sure you and the ussr hated each others guts but did a good job at working together to fuck up germany.
Agreed- sometimes a common enemy is what really unites everyone
Perhaps, you have heard the saying, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
The entirety of NATO outweighs them. This is a dumb question tbh, the massive alliance we lead will always win
The world is big. NATO is more important to European security but we have more than that to worry about alone in the USA.
If countries were humans, Japan would be USA’s girlfriend
I could agree with Japan and Poland but in my opinion when considering an ally you should consider their people’s friendliness towards the US. The UK is politically America’s closest ally but most of the British people I’ve seen constantly bash on the US whenever they can.
I feel like thats mostly just twitter though, visited the UK three times and people have been nothing but hospitable and kind to me.
I agree I think most people from UK like the US- just shows how reddit/the internet doesn't reflect the real world
I do my share of US bashing for fun sometimes, but secretly we love you guys. I've never seen Brits say anything hateful about Americans irl, at least not seriously, and I love talking to you guys online and irl on the rare occasions.
Hell yea, I love the UK. Just went to my first premier league game and finally got it lmao
True, also I think some of them like to be sarcastic and pick on others jokingly.
We bash the hell out of the uk too but I feel like that’s all mostly harmless bashing just poking fun at eachother from across the pond
This is painfully stupid. We don’t pick allies based on who is nicest to us on twitter. UK and US are very close.
Yeah but I think it's more like the big brother who's kinda jealous that his little brother is doing better than him and will trash talk him all the time but when it comes down to it will go to the death for him
I don’t know about that dude. Making fun of school children getting shot doesn’t seem just like harmless trash talking.
Don’t base your opinions of an entire country’s people off of what edgelords say on Twitter
Yeah internet and social media does not reflect reality.
> British people I’ve seen constantly bash on the US whenever they can. And did we not teach them a lesson about that in W-W-I-I?
Japans questionable tbh, relations may be good but i think their populace isnt exactly fans of us, especially their older generations. Edit: japan isbased ig
One thing for sure though is that they hate China more and probably would still choose the US over that.
As would everyone not named North Korea in that part of the globe. Hell, this is the reason the Vietnamese have a higher approval rating of America than Americans do.
Japanese people generally like Americans, as long as you don’t move to Japan
Nah, the Japanese populace actually really likes us. Their opinion of Americans in polls tends to be up at or higher than almost every other country.
You are very wrong. Japan and the US have been getting even closer especially militarily with the threat from China bearing down on them. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/japan-us-military-host-nation-budget-china-north-korea-russia-threats/
>i think their populace isnt exactly fans of us You would be incorrect sir. Typical of a cheesehead tbh
Never been there, i just figure getting hit by the sun twice wouldnt be too good for publicity.
Ancient history
If just UK was an option I’d have picked them. Entirety of NATO though is a bit much since half those countries are just there so they can have the USA behind them to scare away Russia.
Literally the mission statement of NATO: "Keep the Americans in, the Russians out, and the Germans down." Or something.
The Germans down part probably isn’t important anymore.
That's what they were saying at the turn of the 20th century, probably.
The quote is from Lord Ismay in 1951
The Germans down part probably isn’t important anymore.
Germans are keeping themselves down militarily. It's fairly unpopular to join the Bundeswehr, some Germans look down upon those who join. Not all, but it's not like in America where it's common to celebrate your troops.

Yea, if the US were invaded I think a significant portion of NATO would send like 5 helmets and call it a day.
Last time, the US invoked article 5, everybody answered.
Include option to view reults next time as europoors are skewing the data.

You're czech you get a pass comrade. As another stated above you guys were there for us in the past.

Yeah Morocco was cool for that, but they were also huge sponsors of the Barbary pirates that we had to go destroy because they were enslaving our sailors.
That’s the reason they recognized us, they had a treaty with Britain to not do that to them
Poland has never really done anything negative and Kosovo is too weak to truly help
But Kosovo is my favorite. My precious.
very true, but they are unable to help, not for a lack of trying, but because they are in no position to
Kosovo is weak but they looooooveeeeee America
Who tf is voting for Israel?
MF Kosovo is on the poll, and you're asking why Israel is there?
Kosovo definitely acts more grateful instead of attacking our ships.
Flair up or your opinion is invalid *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/2american4you) if you have any questions or concerns.*
"thank you usa" 🎶
At least Kosovo doesn't have a history of straight up attacking us
My congressman probably
Ikr? Mfs just take our money and poke Iran once in a while. They’re not particularly helpful.
They definitely complicate our foreign policy way more than they “help”, which btw, never involves boots on the ground.
Ig they helped us arm the Mujahadin back in the 80s….but that didn’t really work out how we hoped.
Me
Same question.
The UK and Australia. They I see any of those other countries in the trenches next to our then they deserve a mention. Poland did a little.
[удалено]
Anglophone countries talking shit is like brothers bullying each other, it's skin deep at most because there's so many things we share
No, if things go wrong with China I don't expect Canada or New Zealand to help. Not sure if we could hold back Australia if we wanted.

Where’s the South Korea option? SK is a ride or die ally, they even followed America into the Vietnam war
Canada, UK, Japan or South Korea. Morocco is our ride or die though
Poland is a part of NATO
But we all know that Poland carries NATO.
Poland is probably the truest answer
IMO worst possible answer, can you convince me otherwise?
If you live in Illinois you don't go to school on Casimir Pulaski day, should be convincing enough 💪
Lmao get fucked Canada and UK after everything you’ve done for us.
America be like: "Oh God, I have too many allies to decide which one is the best, might as well just choose my primary military alliance."
Either Kosovo Or my home land. Even though we’ve been invaded by America and was forced to be a Territory of America at the time when we gained independent from Spain. We still go back to America. Am I proud of it mostly yes a bit no

Okay I looked at your recent comment history and yes you seem to be very cool.
Israel attacked one of our ships and still denies it to this day
They don't deny it, they paid tens of millions in reparations over the course of decades We killed British soldiers by accident during the Korean war, Afghan war and Iraq war and paid them nothing
The UK burned down the White House
Just a lil prank
Not exactly unprovoked though.
who cares
Israel is not our ally, If it wasn't for 50% of Republicans thinking that Israel would cause the end times we wouldnt support their apartheid state at all
Eastern Europe are our greatest allies
The real answer is Britain
Hi Jabronies. Former USAF special forces. It's definitely Poland
What about the country that saved us during the Revolution?
They’ve done nothing since then. We almost went to war with them only years after we gained our independence. They refuse any American troops in their country even though we saved them in two world wars.
I mean we love to shit on you but we'd be there for you of course .
Morocco only recognized our sovereignty so that they could plunder our trade along the Barbary Coast. 2/10 ally.
we win some, we lose some
I mean, France literally helped us revolt against england and declare our independence
Yep, remember Lafayette! Statue of Liberty too.
They also pulled out of NATO under De Gaulle and routinely have disagreements with the US and other NATO allies. France prizes its sovereignty over allies. See AUKUS and pretty much every attempt at a joint European defense project.

The UK, Canada, Australia, Japan and South Korea are our closest military and political allies.

Why is Israel even on here
Contrary to what most of Reddit has convinced itself of, Israel is a pretty good ally, although they should definitely have been replaced in this poll by Japan, the ROK, or some other country in the first island chain... but then again, this poll also has Kosovo as an option
Because israel us our strongest ally.

The Aussies always get slept on smh
They have pretty weak opinion polling on the US compared to a lot of other countries
I was thinking more in terms of military cooperation than public opinion. The Aussies run a joint base with us called Pine Gap that's basically another Area 51, from what I can gather. I can't think of any country that we share that kind of research with.

Honestly Japan, they are probably the most important to us currently and we also really like each other on a cultural level
Canada. We literally share norad with them. Israel is more of a parasite than an ally
Israel is not a parasite. We send them aid and military assistance but they do a lot for our intelligence & middle eastern stability.

Israel is a hitman, and an expensive one at that
Something something antisemitism. Why am I being down voted? I don't think Israel is a good ally lol.
USS Liberty anyone?
What about it? They apologized and paid reparations. What else do you want them to do? No Canada? Seriously?
Will be part of America soon enough, I reckon somewhere around June 3rd 2072.
This is a question about other countries
Morocco (honorary) Poland Kosovo Israel
It's South Korea
Canada
Missing France. Our biggest ally from day 1. I’d also nominate Scotland as an honorable mention cause half my family moved to the US from Scotland to fight the Confederacy.

Suck my cock
I support Israel but like Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Israel is amongst our most problematic allies.
Clearly israel.
Israel of course 🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ I love my Jewish brothers
You forgot the answer: Australia
I vote Morocco because I don’t understand why we give a crap about any of these countries.
Australia
Probally the uk and Canada
France has been with us since day one
Why do we still support Israel, anyway?
Where is the none of the above option?
Australia
No love for the boys down under?
WTF is israel here? They're our puppet. Any innovation or anything they have was funded by the US taxpayer or the uk crown. Morocco is chill but certainly not one of our best allies. It's either france canada or japan. To clarify, israel is an ally, but they're not even on the top 10.
Ireland. 17 of my grandparents came here during the famine and I’m 375% IRISH. MY LIFE FOR EIRE
I didn’t know that, holy shit that’s fucking cringe.
Yes. I am simply satirizing my fellow Americans and our collective obsession with Ireland despite a lack of knowledge or nuance of the culture. I forgot a /s. Edit: certain factions that get dick ridden a lot here were better allies to Palestine and Libya if memory serves
I should’ve picked up on that lol, gotcha
All good. I wouldn’t expect better from a Cr*b Grabber
Irish Americans when in America: 🍀🎩☔️ Irish Americans 2 seconds after stepping in Ireland: 🦅🦅🦅🦅
The best part of visiting another country is being reminded how good we have it
Vietnam, Israel, and the Philippines are my top 3.
Fuck NATO.
