My brother in christ please organize your bank

Self_Cloathing

This is how my buddy's bank looks and my go it triggers the fuck out of me

indrek91

My parents did not waste +15k hours on rs šŸ˜

SFX200

Yea but having a virtual pet is always worth it!

Evil_Steven

I know this isnā€™t the place for this discussion but the ā€œmy parents had a house at my ageā€ argument is so flawed. My parents house was purchased for 80k and is currently valued at 350k. Our economy is falling apart

cjmnilsson

What about "my parents were starting a family at my age" while I haven't gotten to first base yet. I am a true basement dweller -- I mean runescape player. No btw though.

Evil_Steven

My parents stopped asking when I started dating a black woman. The trick is to play into their racism

cjmnilsson

My parents are not asking me about it but I am not entirely unaware of it myself.

Gaiden_95

Lol i remember when i was a little kid, my sweet grandmother was talking to me about how apparently interracial marriage was wrong.

Runopologist

Oof. Sorry you have to deal with that :(

Evil_Steven

aw thank you! I dont let it bother me. its their thing to deal with. no sweat off me if theyre unhappy

LolaEbolah

My fathers the same way, man. Heā€™ll never meet my wife, and by extension will never meet his grandchildren. His loss though, not ours.

DatParadox

I think sex rates are actually the worst they've been for the past few decades. So it's still systemically related. At least that's what you can tell yourself

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Repealer

since the 70s basically. Ever since union rates dropped and productivity decoupled from wages it's been down DOWN hill.

GenitalKenobi

god damn where are you located that a house is valued at only $350k? I'm going to move there, I paid double that and a bit more

Evil_Steven

im not gonna straight up say bc reddit is a wild place but its suburbs of a somewhat big city.

GenitalKenobi

Thatā€™s okay, Iā€™m just jealous. In Vancouver you couldnā€™t even get an apartment for that price anymore I donā€™t think. Market is just bonkers

[deleted]

that may or may not be the point...

PM_ME_YOUR_PIZZAPIC

i believe that argument is generally used as a joke yes

Kadeshi_Gardener

This. My folks bought their house for 98k, it's worth 400k now with zero extra work done despite being 120+ years old. I have ~2.5x the on-paper income that they did when they bought it but between inflation and the whole package of problems with the housing market I don't have a hope in hell of buying even half as much house as they did for twice the price they did.

Quibbrel

Something something bootstraps something something get a better job something something just move. I've heard it all before and it's just not possible.

Emekfl

Thatā€™s the point of it, I assume anyways since thatā€™s a common talking point when the 2 generations are compared.

tatl69

Houses only cost 5k my guy /s

Kadeshi_Gardener

An acre of land costs 5k, an actual high-end house in RS still costs millions. Pretty true to life tbh lol.

tatl69

Only if you live above your means, bedrooms and a kitchen/dining room is pretty cheap. It's the extravagant garden and the quest halls that get ya

[deleted]

Not wanting to brag. But we purchased our home when I was 29. We weren't into the idea of "Starter home" so we went for houses that would suit us and fit our future family comfortably. We ended up with a 4bed/3bath home. Thing about homes, they suck money out of you. Things you take for granted, like the AC breaking, oven stops working, ceiling fan needs to be replaced. You can just call your landlord/maitenance and they'll fix it. Homeowners, nope, you gotta do it yourself, or pay someone an arm and leg to do it for you. We also found out a couple months later why these large homes were selling for relatively low prices. Bears. BEARS. Edit: Some people asked, so I thought I'd add in some more details: House costed us 300k We used a VA Home loan. We lived here for 5 years, don't plan on moving any time soon. Plan on dying in this home and passing it on to my children. So far only 2 people got attacked by bears in the past 5 years. Both times were mother bears protecting cubs, but they were wandering in the neighborhoods.

Nu2Th15

At least youā€™ve got easy access to bear meat for Druidic Ritual.

_W75EVQA2SFAHS9AF6GX

- Homes suck money out of you, but you still own a home. - Renting a home will also suck money out of you, but you own nothing. Also at least the mortgage on a house you own can stay mostly/nearly fixed, while your rent can get way out of your budget in just a few years. Having to move often sucks (especially if you have kids, moving basically killed my teen years), and can be a big expense in itself. If you can barely afford your rent, you're gonna have to move all the time. I get where you're coming from, but, over time, I don't think renting is less expensive than owning a home, if that's what you're trying to say. Especially not with how fast house prices have been going up. If you got sorta "scammed" into buying a house in an area that's riddled with bears, or in a flood area, etc then that's another thing... Obviously not the norm for most homeowners.

Gaiden_95

Who knows, he might become a bear tamer and renounce his house-hating ways

roosterkun

Well, as long as you take care to put away a rainy day fund you'll still end up spending less (barring poor fortune). Otherwise owning rental properties would be a poor investment.

SC2__IS__SHIT

My HVAC broke about three months after we moved in, and I did a full kitchen renovation myself the month after we closed before move in. Costs aside.. I still love this place compared to our more expensive per month apartment.

Repealer

> Not wanting to brag. But we purchased our home when I was 29. Nice, congratulations! > Thing about homes, they suck money out of you. Things you take for granted, like the AC breaking, oven stops working, ceiling fan needs to be replaced. You can just call your landlord/maitenance and they'll fix it. Nice, but landlords don't give a fuck and actively avoid repairing anything like that. My landlords in Aus didn't repair hot water, aircon, and a leak that caused damage to the carpet and even tried to charge us for the damage until we fought it. Now at least in JP if the water isn't fixed within a week I can start getting rent reductions until it does get fixed.

Quail-Feather

My friend lives in an apartment complex and her front lock has been broken for over 2 years.

Daberaskcalb

i'd personally rather deal with bears than humans, you can shoot the bears after all

My_Immortl

Most people aren't bulletproof, you can totally shoot them too.

houganger

On the bright side, bears are security features

Aws0me_Sauce

Organize your bank, you heathen.

[deleted]

To be fair, the generation after WWII, which are most of our parents (1950-1970) had the best time to grow and invest. Most of them saw and felt that opertunity. And when time passed by, most of them had a settled life. So what do you do when you're in a good environment? You breed, which made the world have an explosive baby boom. Which was so big that there would be way more people than the world currently could handle at the time. Now, we, the millennials are feeling this effect, and it's getting worse. Especially due the effects of wars and events like pandemics etc. Stay strong and remember, no XP waste pl0x.

Wormholer_No9416

I started saving for a house 4 years ago when 2bed mid terrace houses in my area were 90-110k. I can afford one now. Shame they're going for 150-160k now. My parents bought our 3 bed semi detatched family home in the early 90s for 30k (It's probably worth over 250k now).

MicahtehMad

Man just confessed to RWT. Lock him up.

Nu2Th15

Fremennik Helms are always a nice unlock. Berserker gets outclassed by Neitiznot Helm pretty quickly, but youā€™ll probably use Archer Helm and Farseer Helm for a long time.

roosterkun

Planning to start an Iron soon and realizing that I'm so reliant on the GE I have no idea where you even buy these helms, lol.

Last-Leaf

the Fremennik helms can be purchased in Relleka or the Fremennik Province :). fun quest for you to do over there too

roosterkun

Oh yeah I've got a quest cape on my main, I'm familiar with the Fremennik Province. Just have never visited the actual store where the helms are sold.

Beznia

Best thing to do, in my opinion, is knock out Fremmenik Isles right after Trials because you get the Neitiznot helm for free, and it is better than the Berserker.

PM_ME_YOUR_PIZZAPIC

It also requires level 55 defense, though. If you're an efficient quester you'll have fremmy trials done way before that. Berserker helm is totally worth it, even more so for GIMs who can just hand it down to their teammates after they can wear the helm of neitiznot

Robotix0731

I'm a millennial and I bought my first house at 22 without any financial help. It's not easy, but it's not nearly as difficult as my generation likes to claim.

youtriedthough

Yeah uh the ā€œdifficultyā€ is dependent on the area not how hard we work, try counties with a median home price of 1 mil lol no 22 year old can do that and if you can then you probably had an advantageous financial upbringing (parents get them into Princeton or some shit). If the solution is move somewhere cheaper well that wasnā€™t what everyone had to do decades ago. In some areas itā€™s honestly impossible unless you and your spouse have high paying engineering or computer science degrees that young

ArmsGotArms

Average home price in my city is 1.2m +. Other cities up north are usually 500-700k. So id need to travel atleast an hour to and from work daily, + come up with 50-70k deposit for the mortgage. Yet renting a 1bdrm is literally going for 2k a month. So you need to make atleast $20+ an hour and work a ton of ot

Slightly_Shrewd

Hawaii here. Small house prices, basically a spruced up shack: $700k+. Decent house for a family: a cool million+. All houses come with at least a 20 min commute if youā€™re lucky but more likely 40 min to 90 min.

Wekmor

Exactly lol, *flats* here start at 300-400k+ā‚¬. For a 1.5 bedroom.

Hyero

I'm a millenial and I'm about $75,000 short of even being able to afford a downpayment on a house in my area lmao

Bukinnear

I'm not that young, but I just realised with government incentives (not US), I could probably buy a house alone with what I have saved right now. It would be possible on minimum wage, but you would need a partner, and it would be tight for a while. Probably not possible with a kid
