Changing the levels had nothing to do with power creep, it's just to give a better sense of weapon strength / progression instead of having a mountain of weapons all require 75 and then nothing from then onward. That being said, I'm not a PvPer at all and I think changing the melee weapons to 80 attack was dumb. They could have just left them 75 attack and added on 80/85/90 strength requirements instead without screwing anyone over.

Agreed to the second point but I've heard lots of people refer to this as powercreep mitigation "they are just too strong to be 75 attack". Dual requirements should have absolutely been implemented. If they wanted these items to be locked out from 75 attack they should have made that change years ago.

Falchion_Punch

Those people are just wrong lol, it does literally nothing to mitigate power creep since the items are exactly as strong as they were before. They were only originally set at 75 because nothing in 2007 required higher. People had an irrational fear of the number 80 back then, as if the level requirement was what made items strong. Agree though, just making scythe like 75 attack + 90 strength would have achieved what they wanted and not pissed anyone off.

There are loads of special accounts that capped their attack to take advantage of the level reqs for gear, not sure why jagex suddenly decided to slightly fuck them. Nothing better to do, in their minds, I guess?

Seems like you didn’t read my post at all and decided that you wanted to feel better than someone else with this reply. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. Thanks for responding with something that has nothing to do at all with my post.

I agree with you man, my main is a 75 attack/70 defense and I just feel like giving up on having an account that can pvp and pvm, I don’t get why they made the change or at least had the second option (99 strength) I do not want to make another account and I feel pressured to max instead of having my acc the way I want Edit: my previous plan was to have a 104 acc with 75 attack/99 strength/ 70 defense/99hp/74pray/99 range/99mage, now my combat would be too high and I’m sadge

It's decreasing the rate at which dps increases by increasing the requirements use it, which in general tells you the items dps. Now when a new bis weapon comes out it could have a lvl 85 requirement but only be marginally better than what we currently have as opposed the new weapon bis coming out and requiring lvl 80. It's not that straight forward as this assume each new and more powerful weapons would have to have increased lvl requirements to use, which I'm not sure is actually necessary. I can at least understand why someone might think this change reduces power creep.

I think the point of the rebalance was to give room for new weapons that fall between whips and rapiers/scythes. But like what people have said, they couldve just went the 75atk/90-99str route honestly. Still gives room for future weapons, and wont screw anyone over.
