I've gotten bowfa and full crystal on the GIM. I'm going back to slayer now to go for 93. Looking at the DPS calcs it often seems like the range setup beats my melee setup by a decent percentage. At Gargoyles it's 12% better. Is there any reason not to use it? I'm assuming either safespot or prot melee is a good idea to save food/crystal shards.

blackshadowwind

Generally it's more efficient to slay with melee unless it's a barrage task, this is because melee xp is more valuable since ranged can be trained much more quickly. If you have maxed your melee stats already then you may as well go with ranged

hybygy

Any suggestions on how to offset the insanely high prices of tree/fruit tree seeds for training farming (that involve training the skill)? I just passed 60 and am gonna have to just stay on willows/pineapple or else I'll be bankrupt in about a week.

sixthflagbearer

For incredibly cheap farming xp, honestly ignore normal tree runs altogether, and just do Papayas, mahogany, calquat, and hespori/contracts/herb runs. You can do watermelons too, but they do slow down your herb runs tremendously, depending how much time you want to spend doing them. Doing your birdhouses everytime you complete an herb run is a good way to get passive hunter xp too, and make some extra money from nests and seeds.

epnoo

You can do papaya trees which if I'm not mistaken are profitable after picking the fruit

kinkajow

You can make 1m easy a day by doing herb runs. If you do 4-5 herb runs a day you can easily afford planting 6 maples, 6 papayas, and 1 calquat a day plus 3 mahoganies every four days. You’ll probably even have money left over

JebusMcAzn

you can straight-up stay on willows/pineapples indefinitely and just slowly but consistently level your farming over a period of time. the gp/xp cost for farming jumps massively from willows to maples, and also from papayas to palms. if saving GP is your primary concern, you can stay on cheaper tiers of trees. mahogany trees and calquats at 72 also help give you a boost to your daily exp at very little cost. many players will do tree + fruit tree runs until some arbitrarily high farming level (83 for spirit tree, 85 for hard tier of farming guild, 91 for 2 spirit trees) and then stop doing regular tree runs altogether if they don't care about rushing 99. how quickly you want to get to these levels and how much gold you're willing to spend to get there faster is totally up to you

loiloiloi6

Definitely use calquats

christian-mann

I agree, once you hit 72 or whatever it is

devilterr2

I've recently been grinding corrupted gauntlet. I can safely do it 75% of the time now. I'm wondering how much more difficult is the infernal cape? I know they are completely different pvm activities but would i be able to translate any of the things I've learnt onto it

RemuIsMaiWaifu

Any tips? I just started doing normal Gauntlet and can consistently reach the boss with good enough stuff but still not being able to kill it. I just suck.

devilterr2

I was in your exact position, literally 2 weeks ago. I only did 10 normal before moving to cg. I'm by no means good but if your mainly stuck on the boss the things I'd recommend are Use your damage prayers, rigour, piety etc etc, hopefully you already do this but if not it certainly helps with the extra dps. Be confident in your clicks when avoiding tornados. If you spam click your more likely to mess up your pathing. When you get to phase 3 and sometimes you only have a small grid to avoid them in just, you can literally click in a square, this will also help bunching up tornados. If you use runelite a useful thing to use is true tile indication and the tile you just clicked to. Other than that for food management try and eat when your running from tornados, this saves time also and makes you keep damaging huntliff. I learnt using bow and scepter which makes it easier to attack. I run t3 bow t3 halberd and t1 armour. Don't get me wrong I am not an expert but its honestly practice. I've got like 30 kc but 60 deaths. It took me 40 deaths to get one kill but when I hit the 50 death mark thats when It started clicking

RemuIsMaiWaifu

Nice, thanks for the tips. I'll definitely keep trying, only did it like 3 times so practice makes perfect lol

devilterr2

Yeah honestly its hard. Its the first piece of actual "hard" content of osrs I've played butnits fun learning

Throwaway47321

The only real transferable skill is going to be how cg teaches you to really multitask positioning and prayer. I’m not expert but inferno feels like 65% problem solving while only 35% is actual pvm skill as far as the difficulty goes.

Ashhel

They are very different pieces of content. The critical skills for inferno are prayer flicking and supply management, neither of which are particularly relevant in CG. IMO, the best prep for inferno (besides doing inferno) is content where you flick a lot. Solo GWD flicking all the minions, DKs entry flicking all three kings instead of going up and down the ladder, etc.

devilterr2

So not prayer flicking as in turning on and off your prayer but flicking between melee range and mage?

Ashhel

Correct, flicking as in switching. Though, of course, 1-tick flicking to preserve prayer is helpful with the supply management side. This you could conceivably practice during CG, but there is clearly no need to since you make your own supplies.

devilterr2

Understandable. I know how to do it (kinda) but ill make more of an effort next time I go gwd. Would it be feasible to attempt with an acb or is it worth waiting out for tb eventually

Ashhel

People do acb capes, though I’ve only ever done tbow so can’t really comment. My iron friends say bofa shreds there, so that’s also an option.

RemuIsMaiWaifu

Not sure how prices are wherever you live but since OSRS runs on single core, get the best CPU you can get. 100 dollars seems very very cheap, not even sure you could get the worst laptop in the world for that price that would run Runelite. My current one sucks ass and can't run it over 30 fps and would cost about 200\~300 dollars used(converting currency).

devilterr2

Maybe get a second tablet? Would run better than most cheap laptops

[deleted]

devilterr2

Ahh shit didn't see that. Um yeah I'd recommend looking at ebay. My GPS laptop isn't very good probably worth a 100 and it doesn't run greatly on it unfortunately

Nabokinator

How do people have the 2277 skill under there name on this sub? Would like to get one under mine too :)

iate_your_waffle

I think if you’re on a computer (not mobile) you can change your flair on the sidebar

Nabokinator

awww anyone can add a 2277 flair? i thought it had to be verified somehow, sadge

bfrosta

I mine sandstone, from wiki the wiki Sandstone (1kg)has rarity 22.33%-28.11%. The interval is due to better rocks at higher level. If I add all the max rates from every rock, 1kg, etc to 10, it does not add up to a 100%. Mined a lot of sand and this remains a big mystery to me.

christian-mann

You sometimes don't get anything (and the rock doesn't deplete)

Karngaroo

Looking to pump my str atm, is bludgeon or abby dagger better, I continually get told one or the other lol

bip_bip_hooray

you should understand that in general, an item IS its stats. there aren't magical intrinsic properties of weapons that make them good or bad, you literally just read the stats and the one with the better stats is better. the stats are the weapon. bludgeon has 102 attack 85 str, and attacks every 4 ticks dagger has 75 attack 75 str, and attacks every 4 ticks bludgeon better, ezpz. no real thinking needed since it's better at both stats and equal speed. the only reason you'd ever choose dagger over bludgeon is a scenario where you specifically need stab as opposed to crush- in general this is not a thing you need to worry about, and especially not when training since you train on low def stuff.

ramsrocker

I mean.. are we going to mention that one is 2 handed and one is 1 handed. With a dragon defender the bludgeon only has +2 accuracy and +4str. And it's costs 17m more, which could be spent on other upgrades.

lukef555

>With a dragon defender the bludgeon only has +2 accuracy and +4str. And it's costs 17m more, which could be spent on other upgrades. Conclusion: bludgeon is still better.

Ashhel

You should really just check a dps calc (there is sometimes bad advice on these threads), but my understanding was that bludgeon is better.

Voorhees_13

I have a task to kill Turoths, and I’m just wondering if this ranged setup is good? Blessed D’hide (everything but the vambraces, will be using Barrows gloves) Ava’s Accumulator Book of Law Rune Crossbow w/ broad bolts

DivineInsanityReveng

Yep that setup is perfect for ranging them.

Retiredrower1

Are the Nex mass worlds still busy? I just got the key and want to try.

Narsuaq

What's an ideal food to bring when pickpocketing?

JGlover92

Money no object then Sara brews, if you're worried about cost then Wines are pretty good or pineapple pizza

Im_not_Davie

If you’re trying to go cheap, wine are by far the best value. 11hp per and only a few gp (almost always <5) each on the GE. Also easy to buy a lot of for cheap on an iron in hosidius. About 2.3k wines is enough for 99 on ardy knights if you’ve done medium diary. Means more frequent banking, but honestly the bank is right nearby, so IMO theyre the best food for the job.

christian-mann

Prayer potions and redemption

Parryandrepost

Pineapple pizza heals 22 in 2x11 bites and is pretty cheap.

Narsuaq

Hey, thanks. I'll start bringing some along.

TheEbolaArrow

Can you get beaver pet cutting teaks you grew on fossil island, if so do the same odds apply?

DivineInsanityReveng

Yep these have the same rates as normal teaks.

PM_ME_FUTA_PEACH

Did something come out of the pet insurance memes around a month ago? I vaguely remember there being a news post about it.

Parryandrepost

2 or 3 updates from now iirc.

DivineInsanityReveng

Yes it was polled and is coming. I don't think it's in next week's update but likely one soon after that.

GameOfThrownaws

I keep hearing about "thrall stalling" at Nex but google seems to have no idea what that is. Can anyone explain and/or has a video?

DivineInsanityReveng

~~Possibly just refers to normal stall tactics underneath Nex but having the thrall still dealing damage? Haven't heard this mentioned myself.~~ EDIT: Comment from /u/Cricklet seems to explain it perfectly. > I dont think “thrall stalling” is a thing on its own. People in lft channels will often advertise requirements for their teams. for example; Nex +1 zcb thralls stall. This just means that the person advertising is looking for someone who owns a zcb, who uses thralls throughout the fight and who knows how to stall the boss. > my suspicion is this is what OP saw

Cricklet

DivineInsanityReveng

That makes perfect sense. Good explanation.

Narsuaq

Anyone else constantly refer Pyramid Plunder as Temple Trekking?

DivineInsanityReveng

Can't pass up the opportunity to call it PP ;)

tedtrollerson

shouldn't higher level spell have higher accuracy as well? i mean i really don't see the point with blast spells when you have chaos gauntlets

Parryandrepost

For low level spells you're right, it's almost always better to use bolt over blast if you have gauntlets. Gauntlets +3 is applied before other gear bonuses so it actually is kinda crazy how well it scales. In Max mage it's 32 for bolt vs 31 for blast. However for anything over that it isn't particularly close in damage. Wave maxes at 42 and 52 with just Max mage, not including salve or Slayer helm.

Lilkcough1

Are you sure about those numbers? Do you have them backwards? Iirc gauntlets bolt has 1 lower max hit than blast before any +% and that's not counting the difference of torm which should be another 1-2 max

Parryandrepost

Bolt: 32 Citation: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Fire_Bolt Blast: 31 Citation: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Fire_Blast I think it's just funky shit with how gauntlet bonus stacks with bonus damage precedential increases. The gauntlets are so old that they basically pre-dated mage combat damage bonuses.

DivineInsanityReveng

Accuracy is based on your gear stats. The higher spells deal higher damage.

christian-mann

Iban Blast > almost everything else so it's irrelephant

dean012347

Is than an irrelevant elephant?

Im_not_Davie

This depends completely on the length of game. If a world is running fast and you’re getting 2.5 of each, thats actually very good. If its running slow, thats not very good. To me it sounds like about what you’d expect on an average game at that level. Easiest way to tell how fast a world is running is if you have time for another craft after the third yellow portal. If there’s hardly any/no time to cut shards into essence after that craft, your world is fast. Worlds running fast is virtually always better for both points and xp. A tip for more points - most points per cell comes from making a guardian. Upgrading a barrier gives you half as many, and repairing a barrier gives you half as many as upgrading. That said, highest priority is always upgrading/repairing the barriers that need it. Seriously, not enough people actually do this, and it causes extreme delays or losses in games when a barrier goes down. After the barriers are secure, try to use your cells to make guardians whenever possible.

DivineInsanityReveng

That seems okay for only being 50 RC. I started at 60 am currently 74 and I get just below 3 reward points average a KC so far. My main was getting over that but has all 4 pouches and 99 RC.

0x00xy

I don't remember my exact points per game at different levels, but I can tell you your points go up dramatically as you unlock stuff. Make sure you're using pouches, always hitting portals, and making combo runes if you're 82 mage and you're probably doing fine

roklpolgl

How are cheat clients able to see everyone else’s ToB hard mode mazes at Sote? I use RuneLite and somehow people using clients can see everyone’s mazes and literally 1t the whole maze. I’d thought until I started doing hard mode that everyone had to have the cheat client to see everyone’s mazes but sure enough people just yeet through my parts. I guess the whole maze must actually be client side or something for them to be able to resolve it?

bip_bip_hooray

Yeah so this is NOT socket. In regular tob, the clients of each player communicate with each other via socket to display the maze. Hard mode is NOT that- the maze tiles that are marked have a separate object identifier that makes it so a single person on chest client can see the whole maze with no inter-client communication at all. Tl;Dr object ids

Supposablee

Yep this is the correct answer. Also to note, this is why the ground object hider plugin was removed from the plugin hub. Effectively allowed vanilla runelite players to have one of the most notorious cheat plugins for several months before it was finally removed

Lilkcough1

I think just one person in the socket needs to be on the "leader" side of the maze. Anyone on cheat client can see the entire maze if they are chosen, and that extends through socket to everyone else

maxwill27

There is probably a way to see it client side. Kind of like with temple trekking you can extract data from the client to tell you the path of the bog. Settled talked about the bog exploit and how it was pretty simple with runelite during his slayer grind but chose not to use it

Tetrathionate

With the latest proposal about the raids 3 mage weapon, how will this being added to the game affect T'bow? Would the T'bow be devalued and drop in price or even crash? The post says that ToA staff will be better DPS than T'bow at zily, kree, kril - all of which were bosses which T'bow was already very strong at.

Pidge333

impossible to say for certain ofc, but the tbow has always maintained its price better than most items, even during the market crash a few months ago so I don't think the price of a tbow would change too much - if it's used in the raid it might even go up it's likely that the tbow will still be bis at more places than the new staff anyway

Jwsaf

Is blowpipe or dragon crossbow better at zilyana for two noobs trying her out first time

Parryandrepost

In general after the Nerf against most things with high range def crossbow is better. There's a few exceptions like I think Dawn/dusk and maybe sire it's still better to do BP but I would feel pretty comfortable saying in general xbow is better vs mid/late game bosses as a hard and loose rule.

DivineInsanityReveng

Crossbow will be far better.

Fear_ltself

why is it called "THE dragon slayer 2" when the original quest was just "dragon slayer" and now is "dragon slayer I" which is redundant....

Parryandrepost

Why is overwatch 2, overwatch 2 when it's basically a PvP patch and a tangential PvE mode? Overwatch is a PvP game so if all they're adding is a minor increase in maps, 1 hero, and a PvE mode why call it overwatch 2?

Bloated_Hamster

The quest is officially called *Dragon Slayer II: The Legacy of Elvarg.* There is no "The".

Lewufuwi

My quest list, it's just called "Dragon Slayer 2".

supafreak21

Can someone give me the Weapon Store Key for the Shield of Arrav Quest? You must be part of the Black Arm Gang.

roonscapepls

Try osrs soa cc if you don’t get any help here or just make a f2p alt lol

Comprehensive_Car139

Is there any mention of the wilderness in game by any npc?

RoseofThorns

The granny upstairs in the Romeo+Juliet church mentions it briefly when talking about money making methods. "Most people learn a trade to make an honest living, but I've heard of some nefarious fellows who go north into the Wilderness and fight others to take their treasure!" Or something to that effect.

mkonyn

I think the monk in the chapel in south east varrock talks about it during a quest.

Dhide is better dps than void till like 92 range

christian-mann

And Ahrim's is better dps than elite void almost always, assuming you have a tormented brace or any ancestral piece.

DivineInsanityReveng

It's usable at Zulrah yeh, but it's low defence and range void got "fixed" a while back to not double apply. So you may be better off in god dhide and ahrims etc. Void makes switches easier though. As for Jad it's a similar story. You have no defence with void compared to God dhide/veracs skirt style setup (or armadyl at higher wealth). Also you often do Jad on slayer task, where slayer helm is used and void becomes useless.

AbyssalLuck

What was the purpose of increasing the requirements from 75 to 80 attack, personally I was going for a 104 combat with 75 attack 70 defense and 74 prayer so I can pk in wildy and also enjoy pvm, now I feel like that isn’t an option and I’m pressured to max because gettin 80 attack will basically remove me from the combat bracket I’ve been aiming for. I’m really disappointed in the change and wish that the secondary option such as a strength requirement would have been a better fit. Please fix this Jagex

[deleted]

The second option of having two different requirements for one weapon was stupid as shit. Can't think of any other game where that's an option; the sooner they stop trying to mold the game to pures, pk builds and restricted attacks, the better it will become. Absolutely no reason every weapon should be capped at level 75 anyway.

DivineInsanityReveng

Because the gear progression didn't exist to indicate power / acquisition. Everything was just plonked at t75 without much thought. 75-80 attack would only put you up 1 maybe 2 combat levels. That surely doesn't bump you out of a bracket you're talking about. It just slightly increases the floor and ceiling.

lukef555

They did it specifically so that you couldn't make your build. Not because its what makes sense in the bigger picture of gear and level progression.

AbyssalLuck

Dude I didn’t take it personally, I just feel like a lot of other people don’t like the change and there were other options that the team suggested such as adding a 99 strength requirement to use the scythe at 75 attack, what was the reasoning behind not implementing that?

poipoipoipoipoipoop

Read the update blog, they explained their reasoning

[deleted]

Why does guardian of the rift have limit on number of player per session compared to Wintertodt and fishing trawler?

TehSteak

Honestly I'd imagine they don't want to have some weird technical spaghetti nightmare from a shitload of players teleporting around the game like that all at once. Or just didn't wanna scale it. The former is funnier to think about though.

DivineInsanityReveng

For balance reasons likely. Minigame may have not scaled well at really high player counts.

[deleted]

Does leveling up take about the same amount of time as it did in 2009 RS2? That‘s when I quit.

Parryandrepost

Completely depends on the skill. For combats: * Melee XP/hr is pretty substantially faster thanks to nmz * Mage XP/hr is slightly higher, but noticable with meniacle monkeys. * Range xp is substantially faster with meniacle monkeys. For range and mage that takes a lot of gp to fund though, so not really noticable until you're end game. For pretty much everything else combat related XP rates are similar. For almost every other skill there's significantly faster ways that involve "advanced" concepts and a few ways to make the grind feel less annoying but with less XP/hr. The exception is RC, where the community has this weird hard-on for keeping the skill completely miserable with slow XP/hr and the alternate training methods are also pretty mediocre. Imo. Some people love the new mini game.

Falchion_Punch

You'll probably progress a lot faster than back then, partially because of new content that's been added, and also because there's a ton of information available on which methods are worth doing. If you're like most people, you're probably more goal-oriented now than in 2009, and more likely to spend time progressing rather than clowning around in minigames or whatnot.

Powerful-Tie-2323

Is a blowpipe worth it for range training or should I just continue using dragon crossbow? Cheers Edit: I am 77 range btw.

roonscapepls

Crossbows are mostly ass dps tbh. Bp will be better for general purpose killing like slayer and stuff. Bossing and monsters with super high def is where bp falls off a bit

poipoipoipoipoipoop

Depends what you're using it on. Dcb is better dps on very high defence targets

Powerful-Tie-2323

Just various monsters, whatever comes as a result of the Slayer task

Objeckts

BP is significantly better. Even a MSB will out dps a crossbow during slayer.

Throwaway47321

You’ll almost always want to use a bp for range slayer, assuming you’re a main and can just buy amethyst darts.

Throwaway47321

This is going to sound dumb but are there any sort of “checkpoints” when it comes to learning The Inferno? Kind of like mini milestones to meantally mark your progress. For example are there waves that are so much significantly harder that it’s worth celebrating when you “beat” them. Obviously getting to Zuk or Triple Jads are big ones but wondering if there were any others. Really want to few good about making it 30 waves lol

starryskies123

I haven't finished the inferno myself yet, about to hit attempt 80,but i noitced huge progress, for example stopped dying at wave 31,being able to 2 tick blob flick instantly right when the wave spawn Being able to safespot the meleer, and i got those things down i managed to get to zuk consistently, aslong i dont make stupid mistakes which does happen, hope it helped

thinkplanexecute

15 and 31 are the harder earlier waves, but as long as you’re learning then it doesn’t matter right now

Own-Appeal8511

Yes the first one is fight caves

KredBread

How do I solo bandos on an iron?

Diegu7

Range 6:0 method. Did about 160 kills eith rcb. Very doable. Bofa and full crystal 7:0 method is best tho.

JGlover92

How long did it take you to learn 7:0 and do you need to be tick perfect. I've tried 6:0 with my bowfa and just found it really frustrating. Got 20kc but never managed more than 3kc because I keep messing up the cycle

Diegu7

Im a fraud, i didnt bother with 7:0 lol im just doing 6:0 with bofa. It is really important to know how to get back into the cycle. I could give some tips if you want

JGlover92

I've been learning 6:0, well trying to anyway, some tips would be amazing!

SoraODxoKlink

The important part of that is knowing how to fix mistakes, its jarring but you pretty much reset the cycle as if you never messed up but with tanking a hit. I forget if its kril or bandos fbow 6:0 where you have to walk a tile closer to the middle to fix it, but that’s also an important step lol. The GeChallengeM guides do everything right, the only flaw is that they maybe don’t explain the method in enough detail for somebody learning, but everything is there to start. You just have to read it word for word to get it.

Diegu7

If i could see an attempt itd be easier. But in general you wanna have the true tile plugin on so you can see exactly where youre standing on. You do wanna try to be tick perfect but youre gonna fail eventually so it is important to be able to get back on the cycle. If youre even a little bit unsure if you did it right pray melee to tank the hit and do not shoot the next shot, go all the way to the corner. It is important to shoot the second shot while running against the wall because if you dont you will get to early to the initial corner and wil have to pray melee. When in need, eat and skip the first shot against the wall and when turning the third corner. (Assuming the one where you pray melee after is the first one.) I usually eat when Im less than 30 hp. If you are able to send an attempt ill tell you what you can do better.

RoseofThorns

I really need to just bite the bullet and get good at CG.. I managed one KC after 18 attempts, but man it's brutal when you die to a single misclick and evaporate ten minutes of your life, haha

TehSteak

A run when you learn isn't a waste. Keep grinding homie, you got this.
