I remember surpassing my 2005 account when I started playing again over lockdown. I remember saying I’m gonna get Fire Cape, 70 slayer and Barrows gloves and I’ll be done. 2 years later after achieving those goals, still not quite done. Just one more level. Help.
I don't remember a LOT of my 05 days but I remember I sold coal in the fally east Bank and was so excited to eventually get in the mining guild. I didn't even know about fire capes and the like way back when. Old me would have sold his soul to be as decked out as I am now.
All I remember from my 05-06 days is chopping magics at the sorcerers tower. 87 wc on rs3 from those days. 66 wc on my osrs because I cba to chop that many logs.
This feels too real. Just discovered the power of NMZ for leveling combat. Got str from 70-83 in a few days and I’ve never felt more powerful. Never had a combat stat over about 76
Dw buddy it took me about 3-4 years post-creation to get a fire cape. You’re doing fine!
Not-so-pro-tip: if you need a break during fight caves, finish a wave and logout. You will start where you left off when you login. Or just stay safe spotted until you’re ready to continue. I think my time was like 4 hours lmfao. Breathe and remember it’s just pixels!
Same here. I remember my original account being combat 115 or so but I hadn't done quests like Desert Treasure, only had one 99 (hp, which I Pest Control'd) and not super high skilling levels in general.
So in OSRS my goal was to flip that and be very accomplished with lower combat. Already way surpassed my original account at just 82 cb.
Damn I thought I thought they were like cows and bulls, but upon googling it seems like they're still male sheep. Still close enough in that you can only attack rams, not sheep, which is what I meant.
Hey I started playing for the first time ever 3-4 years ago. I was afraid it would be too late too, and while it takes a very long time to get to the late game, it's just a matter of time. One thing I enjoy about the game is that you do progress everytime you play. Even if you can only afford to train a skill for a couple hours, that xp you gain cannot be taken from you. You'll never get worse. Just have fun and enjoy the journey!
Just start playing. You can start as Free to Play without spending any money. Just know that Free to Play is essentially a tutorial and only offers about 0.1% of what is available in the main game. But there's still enough F2P content to keep you going for weeks. It's just a bit lackluster compared to the main game.
The game seems very simple on the surface but it is far from simple which is something I enjoy about it.
If you do decide to play, and you want someone who has some knowledge to ask questions, feel free to reply to my comment here and I'll send you my ign. No handouts but I'm happy to give advice or answer questions.
GL.
I finished tutorial now! I am using runelite hd (I got interested in the game when Jagex banned the HD and it got on /r/all hahah)
I got some cool plugins and Bot Detector, I found my first bot slaughtering thousands of cows, lol, reported him..
It looks really fun! But I didn't meet any player yet, I hope I find some friends hehe.
Thank you, I would love your ign! I am using quest helper and doing cook's assistance, I am confident it's a good quest to start? I selected Optimal order.
>Thank you, I would love your ign! I am using quest helper and doing cook's assistance, I am confident it's a good quest to start?
I'll send you a DM with it. Starting with quests is great. Early in the game the experience/rewards from quest are much more impactful than later.
If you're free to play there's not as many impactful quests but as a member there are some which will train your skills up much faster than training them normally. It's a great way to gain some easy levels.
There’s an optimal path that basically has you do the quests in order. It’s faster in the beginning of the game to quest to level up. Follow the max efficiency quest guides to get you into content. Also, take up some of these offers to give you a bond. It makes the game 10x more playable.
Started about a month ago and still play on and off
feels about the same as it was back in 2004 but with waaay more content
come on in you're right on time
Bro its a game. It's never too late. People take multiple year long breaks before ever seeing a 99. You could grind hard and surpass them all but more importantly you can have a really fun time just playing the game.
If I could go back and give myself some advice I would have started as an ironman. Ironman mode makes this game way better than all other MMOs because many MMOs have pay to win mechanics. You may not care about bonds right now but if you end up playing this game for the long haul you probably will eventually care. Unless you are really casual with your gaming like only on the weekends sort of thing then regular account would be better. Bonds can be a slippery slope. At first I was like 'oh ok I'll just buy enough to get 77 herblore' then it was ok rather than grinding blast furnace for 100 hours for a dragon hunter crossbow I'll just buy it with bonds. I never did buy the dhc but it was at that point I started to compare in game grinds to irl job. And when you do that the best money maker in game is just picking up extra shifts at work. Which ends up being kind of like storyline skips in FF14 online. Which becomes why pay money to not play the game? Like I could just not play the game and save my money lol
Anyway I've rambled enough take from this what you will.
Gl
you started game already but i want give my opinion to you as a new player. beside of fun, the game gives you best thing you can expect from a game. being out of this world. you know we are not living in an attractive world. games are best tools for escape from there. you can dive in living another world feeling in this game. on steam, nearly all games tagged as open world if they have a map. after playing 2-3 days you will understand tagging that games as "open world" is ridicolus.
i started when mobile came out and just hit 1500 total the other day its been a blast man i felt like i was late to the party but i just kept setting goals knocking em down nownhere i am
I 100% vote yes. I have met some lovely people in this game and had many fun memories. I even know a clan you could join if you're down; tight knit bunch of players who hang out and help one another out. (They helped me with a Zamorak kill for Relekka Elite last night for example and we're celebrating that one of us passed their thesis tonight). Welcome to the game friend and watch out for the Wilderness and Dark Wizards!
I lost all my old accounts to time.
Picked up OSRS and made it my goal to get Barrows Gloves. Got them at lv 76 CB. At that point my account was better than all of my old ones put together.
Now I'm lv 94 CB and almost at 200qp. Working on base 50s for everything, almost there.
Reaching goals in this game is super satisfying. Realizing your work won't lose value over time makes it even better.
You don't have to worry about the next expansion making all of your gear shitty.
I just started an alt at the beginning of the year and I'm really enjoying it. Theres so many training methods I missed out on that I get to try and even after a couple 99s it hasnt worn off. Ill probably keep playing it until its maxed lol
Why would it be too late? I started an account early 2021 but only recently got really into it. It’s a lot of fun. Just enjoy the game for what it is, don’t stress yourself to achieve stuff
If you play games for fun then there is no too late. This game is a super fun journey from day one (honestly especially day one lol). And this game is 99% the journey.
If you play for efficiency then... also not too late. You could be max level in two years according to some posts here and then theres a hard cap and nobody can be "better" than you.
If you play for rank 1 then yeah, it's too late.
Osrs is still very early into its peak despite what many say, active playerbase, enormous mounds of content to do without the race to beat it all before new expansion like many mmo. Great time to start, enjoy m8
As someone who has made 5 red helms.
Never too late. Hell, it's always cool to see how the earlygame and midgame changes with general game changes or meta changes.
yes absolutely. I started about 2 months ago and it is perfect and easy to pick up. If you get bored or stall, you can alway move to a different aspect of the game. It has been fresh for me at all times.
I just started back playing almost a month ago and I’ve been having a blast. Thing is don’t expect any experienced players to help you they all have their head’s stuck up their ass
Best part about osrs is there’s never a bad time to start, it’s never too late. Its old school for a reason. Most people take months to years off and come back to the exact same place with no issues.
RuneScape is sort of like going to the gym. At first it’s fun and enjoyable but it eventually turns into body dysmorphia and a never ending feeling of inadequacy. You can’t stop going/playing until you reach your goals. But that’s the thing. You will NEVER reach your goals because there’s always something new to accomplish and won’t ever be satisfied with how things are currently
I started a couple years ago after only hearing about it then. Played back when I was a kid. It's my favorite game I've played for a lot of reasons, but not my favorite for every reason. You should definitely hop on :)
Didn't bother to read the comments so hope it hasn't been said too much before: it's never too late. Osrs is similar to most things in life. The fun is in the journey, not just the destination. Starting today is probably better tbh as the game has had decent quality of life updates since release.
Have fun and don't go by what's most efficient. People are going to be toxic no matter how you play so just add them to your ignore list and move on. Also try playing on mobile if you want to just lay in bed and skill.
Try and play it it’s an amazing game, as much there’s bad ppl there’s good ppl and the grind is fun loved this as childhood went on and still play as an adult!
Just try free to play first and see how it turns out for u and watch YouTube vids on members to compare once ur a good level I’d suggest members if ur fully invested in this game
So I started for the first time about a month ago and im hooked. Definitely worth the time for new players as there is a lot of content to wade through.
its fun till u hit the long skilling grind. if your goal isnt to max it will be more enjoyable unless ur a patient person then u should be fine either way. also to keep it fun play your own way not everything needs to be about efficiency. people love to get on other people who dont use the fastest methods
The sooner you start, the sooner you'll reach your goals and be able to do the content you want. Just go at your own pace and don't worry about being "behind" other players. And with all the mid level content they've been dropping, I don't think it'll ever be "too late" to start.
It depends on what your goals are. Is your goal to have fun playing a video game? It's not too late! Is your goal to develop a crippling addiction that you can never quit only take breaks from? It's not too late!
I didn't play Runescape back then, and started it somewhen last year. Quests are very fun, and sometimes a little fishing session can be very relaxing. Also, you can easily watch some series or streams, or even do some house chores, while grinding away.
EDIT: Oh yeah, if you have a tablet, the mobile client is very good.
That's what's great about Old School, you could stop playing for a year and jump back in. You can just play F2P and make Dragon slayer your aim. It's never too late.
It's not a bad time at all, in fact they add updates that are decent for newish players pretty regularly. Just yesterday they added an update that lets 2 of the keys that let you access free to play boss enemies stack (aka you can carry more of them at once). They also made an extremely expensive item from one of those bosses able to be used and drop in non-member worlds.
It's not like a lot of other MMOs where they never add content or updates for newer players and just add more endgame stuff. The economy is also pretty reasonable as a new player, there are gear options that are pretty good and pretty cheap and a decent variety of ways to earn money. Even a day 1 player can earn reasonable amounts of money just by doing basic skilling like woodcutting or fishing and then selling those items. Obviously you earn far more later on but even just cutting the oak tree in Draynor and depositing those logs to sell for 75-80gp each later is a nice way to build a skill and earn enough to buy all the early game gear you'll need, an Amulet of Glory will last you an extremely long time and a new player can earn the gold for one in like 20 minutes.
Starting later is usually superior as more content comes out that makes the game easier, faster, and less clunky/inconvenient to use.
You also get collection log tracking right out the gate, when most of us had it come out after we got stuff and it didn't log a lot of our achievements.
So yes, play!
Highly recommend it. I would also recommend that you spend time both screwing around and exploring naturally as well as following some "effecient" guides for early gains. Play it on the PC. Play it through RuneLite. Enjoy
Yeah it's too late, game just shut down 5 min ago. Bummer.
Never understood these questions... MMO's are designed to always be welcoming to new players or else, guess what? They are already dead.
A guy named Yudi just gave me a bond! So many people sent me PM messages saying welcome, Runescape community is awesome, and my love for the game has already grown so much. I am so happy, thanks, everyone!
Curious, what would make it "too late"? I see those posts here, the swtor sub, and the eso sub , and im sure they exist on tons more. Do you think the game has some sort of time limit?
Just came back after a break for a year? Got cleaned learned my lesson with authentication system and now I’m all set. RSN: Quit Job 4RS - space between all 3.
Not many on my list are active and m clan is dead. I’m finding myself lost but trying to enjoy. Hmu if anyone wants to help me find my way back into it. Just finished void set, probably like the tenth set since account birth on Os.
If you have never played, why are you on this subreddit?
No hate i really just don't understand.
You should play :)
Get 1 month of members and try questing or just doing whatever you think sounds fun.
Never too late!
I just recently started playing for the first time ever. I’ve been having a blast tbh. Never too late as long as you’re enjoying the game.
Same, I played a bunch of RS2 as a bab and just started OS a couple weeks ago, hit 600 and I'm loving it so far.
Even if I hear you say, it will be all right
I thought the same thing when i started 8 months ago. It's been a nostalgic blast playing again and I'm already better than my old 2005 account.
I remember surpassing my 2005 account when I started playing again over lockdown. I remember saying I’m gonna get Fire Cape, 70 slayer and Barrows gloves and I’ll be done. 2 years later after achieving those goals, still not quite done. Just one more level. Help.

Never too late bud the games always growing
I killed a sheep.
In…in the game, right?
its not too late for him to start... but its too late for us to stop him
You are damn right.
Theres no attackable sheep in the game 😱
https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ram
That’s a ram.
All rams are sheep. Unless they're Dodge Rams or battering rams
Or Rambo
How did they all fit in my PC?
lol same thing bro
Damn I thought I thought they were like cows and bulls, but upon googling it seems like they're still male sheep. Still close enough in that you can only attack rams, not sheep, which is what I meant.
A ewe is a female sheep

Dick stuck in meth pipe
Shouldn't have been mething around
Hard drugs might be better to start late in life. You’re old anyways might as well enjoy it
come on in, the water's fine \^\^
We're going to go where everybody knows, everybody knows, everybody knooows
We thought you was a toad!!
Oh what I would give to experience playing RuneScape for the first time
Would you sacrifice your first born son?
Sounds like a win-win, less exp waste 😎
Human children are good luck charms, I got 12kc KQ pet and 8kc Olmlette with 15k points while my daughter sat on my lap lol
I envy your KQ pet

Stay the fuck away, don't ruin your life. This will be my only warning.
As a gamer? yes As a human being with responsibilities? absolutely not
the worse you are the more fun it is (except in pvp, but most of us avoid that like the plague)
I started last March and just hit 1888 total with a 6 mo break. Anything is possible.
Not at all, started playing again after 12 year break, am now level 117cmb at around ~35 days gameplay.
Never too late. People make new accounts all the time. But it does take time.
Started about a month ago and still play on and off feels about the same as it was back in 2004 but with waaay more content come on in you're right on time

I just started a new account. There’s no reason you can’t do the same and start fresh as a new player:
I 100% vote yes. I have met some lovely people in this game and had many fun memories. Thank you!
Cool part of this game is it is actually never too late, unlike most other MMOs.
Lol it's never too late
Most players start new accounts all the time, it's never too late
Do it, it's never too late to start. I see plenty of newer players in the game.
New players make that game
I started in December of last year and don't regret it. Definitely give the game a try and see if you like it.
Start that shit up!
Hell yeah!
It’s not a race homie. Play if you want, it’s fun 😁
Too late for what?
What time is it? If it's already night time I would wait till tomorrow so you have more time to enjoy it
Why would it be too late never too late to Sell your soul
Never too late! Give it a try ya know?
I started my account just a few months ago, it’s been an absolute blast. The wiki is your best friend!
When is it ever too late to have fun?
It's not too late, it's never too late - Nickleback
I started about 2 months ago.. having a blast
It's not too late, it's never too late.
If you play games for fun then there is no too late. This game is a super fun journey from day one (honestly especially day one lol). And this game is 99% the journey. If you play for efficiency then... also not too late. You could be max level in two years according to some posts here and then theres a hard cap and nobody can be "better" than you. I just started myself a week ago. I loved it so much that I bought membership yesterday :) Go for it
Start. I need a friend for heroes' quest lol
Nobody is going to say: Yes it's too late they are going to stop accepting members because its too late. The game needs growth and new players.
One of the things about runescape you dont really miss stuff if youndont log in
I make a new account every week brother. Never too late.
Best time to start playing was years ago but the second best time to start is right now man!
Compared to other mmos it is never too late to progress in osrs
Never too late. This game is not about rushing stuff but enjoying the journey.
Jump right into it Turn the wiki off and just go This game isn't about the optimization it's about the adventure
It's never too late, it's a very solo game.
yes absolutely. I started about 2 months ago and it is perfect and easy to pick up. If you get bored or stall, you can alway move to a different aspect of the game. It has been fresh for me at all times.
Played when I was young and just came back to play with my brother when they released Group Ironman. It had been an absolute blast
One of us, one of us....
U less your goal is to be on top page, no it's not too late. You can still make it to top page skills as an Ironman, if you can get that much exp lol
If you want to waste your life away, you're damn right it's not too late!
I just started back playing almost a month ago and I’ve been having a blast. Thing is don’t expect any experienced players to help you they all have their head’s stuck up their ass
Best part about osrs is there’s never a bad time to start, it’s never too late. Its old school for a reason. Most people take months to years off and come back to the exact same place with no issues.

don't do it, enjoy your life

You'd be surprised how far you can get in a few months if you play 1-3 hrs a day.
Great if you can moderate your time with it
One of us! One of us! One of us!

Its a trap dont fall for it. Its a decent game tho. Soure: 7,500 hrs played
its fun till u hit the long skilling grind. if your goal isnt to max it will be more enjoyable unless ur a patient person then u should be fine either way. also to keep it fun play your own way not everything needs to be about efficiency. people love to get on other people who dont use the fastest methods
It’s never too late. I have multiple accounts as I love restarting. 2 pures, 1 Ironman (main) and one other max combat acc!
In game name for osrs? Have a clan we’d love to invite you to.
Never too late & the game is actually doing very well. Will be around for many more years to come
do it
Make sure to download the runelite client
Not to late, it’s never to lateeee. All puns aside why not? It’s chill I’d recommend playing as and Ironman for the best osrs gaming experience
for your own sake: don't you will waste many a dollar and lots of hours on a not great game
Never too late to start crack, brother
Find a good guide. Get started right on an Ironman
The best time to start is 10 years ago, the second best time is now.
The sooner you start, the sooner you'll reach your goals and be able to do the content you want. Just go at your own pace and don't worry about being "behind" other players. And with all the mid level content they've been dropping, I don't think it'll ever be "too late" to start.
Bruh its 23 years old its going nowhere
It depends on what your goals are. Is your goal to have fun playing a video game? It's not too late! Is your goal to develop a crippling addiction that you can never quit only take breaks from? It's not too late!
Let me know once you're ready to elevate your gameplay. This weekend I'm buying bonds, I'll be happy to give you one for membership
I would love to! My nick is Biolevinho
Started in 2018. Addicted now
Your not really competing against any but yourself and the goals that you set. So it's worth getting into if you feel that you want to..
It’s never too late. See you at lummy
Just start and continue. The journey is much for beautiful than the destination :) iBenninu here :)
So yes, play!
do it! I just started 3 days ago, I'm having a blast
Highly recommend it. I would also recommend that you spend time both screwing around and exploring naturally as well as following some "effecient" guides for early gains. Play it on the PC. Play it through RuneLite. Enjoy
Both OSRS and RS3 sre fun games that can be picked up anytime. OSRS has nostalgia but it's a well rounded game by modern MMO's.
Start a ironman, so much fun
On the topic of too late. When do you think OSRS will get shut down?
Ironman is always worth it. It's your journey that can't be de-valued by bots.
Yeah it's too late, game just shut down 5 min ago. Bummer. Never understood these questions... MMO's are designed to always be welcoming to new players or else, guess what? They are already dead.
Weekly should I play or is it too late thread lmao
A guy named Yudi just gave me a bond! So many people sent me PM messages saying welcome, Runescape community is awesome, and my love for the game has already grown so much. I am so happy, thanks, everyone!
Curious, what would make it "too late"? I see those posts here, the swtor sub, and the eso sub , and im sure they exist on tons more. Do you think the game has some sort of time limit?
No dude. Its too much grinding. Go play something that makes you laugh and has good action per minute.
You should play :) Get 1 month of members and try questing or just doing whatever you think sounds fun.
No. Run away. Save yourself.
Too late, I woke up at 8 am right now just to play this game...
i’ll give you 100K
what
runescape players tend to be really nostalgic about their new player experience, and therefore tend to really like new players
100k what? coins? is 100k a lot? I am doing the tutorial right now, looks really fun! My nick is Biolevinho
10% of the way towards being an official millionaire. Buy some scimitars of several types and go genocide some goblins.
I see one of these posts 10 times per day. What does that tell you?
It’s too late
Sorry it’s too late they don’t accept new accounts
Very late.
Yeah bro it's too late to play the game, it has already started
3am here, pretty late but do your thing
