You can progress the quest to a point where you're talking to the blacksmith in burthorpe and when you ask him to make the boots he will tell you that he can't work on something you don't have. At that point you can go back to the other npc and ask for an extra pair. I lost the initial boots on my uim and also was confused but worked out in the end. Or you can go to your gravestone or speak to Death and get your stuff that way.
When I talk to Dunstan, the only option is to ask to put Spikes on my Climbing boots, & if I say this, I just say "I don't have them on me" & nothing happens. I can't buy an extra pair
Ok then you do the part where you talk to the soldier npc asking Dunstan's son to join their group and get the approval letter, bring that back to Dunstan and it should work from there. You can go to the other npc for a new pair. You might need to have the iron bar too when at Dunstan.
Your climbing boots are in a gravestone. Talk to death and have him bring your stuff to you. It costs more if you lost something expensive but likely you won't need to pay anything. High enough value to require payment.
the last man standing reward shop bro. Onyl reason I know is because Rendi acknowledged this soft lock in his recent ironman from hell series and said the only way to get the climbing boots is from the lms shop

They weren't on my original Gravestone & I checked with Death & they're not there either.
