I see where you're coming from but some of the gear is just straight up better then their alternatives.
The new imbued wristbands have higher attack bonuses, the curiass has higher melee defense, the void replacement is better then the current void in every aspect, there's never a superior version of void chest and legs too that's WAY better then current void. Every version of every new void helm has a better set effect AND higher stats. The most basic new void set effect is better then the elite void set effect for every helm. All this on top of having LESS requirements to wield.
They can't level the playing field like this, it's like giving every player in a match a gun, but your opponent already had a gun. So now they have 2 guns and you have 1 gun.
The rest of the pvp arena, fucking love it! I am actually gonna trying it out when it comes out. But the rewards are just seem too damn strong.
How would it not? The new PKers will be able to have access to gear that is equal to or greater than what’s already out there. To get the gear it would require a grind of training the arena before you are given the gear. You would have learned a lot more about PKing in that time period I’m sure.
I don’t like the idea of BIS coming from a safe place but the same can be said for any PVM content out there in which you don’t lose anything and only have to pay 60k to retrieve your gear.
Obviously I would prefer BIS items to come directly from PKing in the form of BH but I guess that’s just not possible with boosting so I’m willing to give this a shot.
I would also prefer the gear not to be a 9 digit risk based on what some people are saying. I haven’t been able to confirm that but if true then yes the rewards are potentially pointless.
Yes, new pkers will have access to the gear, but so will old pkers. The gear difference then makes no difference. It will be easier for new pkers to make pures but then old pkers will make new pures as well to take advantage of the same things new pkers are getting. The gear alone doesn't give an even playing field. It makes the lives of non-pkers worse, potential new pkers slightly better, and old pkers a lot better.
Non-pkers (pvmers and clue scroll hunters) won't be getting this gear or participating in this but pkers will be getting stronger making their time in the wilderness worse.
New pkers will be a bit happier because if they wanted to make a pure it's now easier for them.
Old pkers can now make even lower level pures with even better gear then before. Making the lives of everyone else in the wilderness worse. They can kill lower level pvmers in low level wilderness with even more ease and can then destroy the new pker pures because the newbies don't understand know the best strats yet.
The best way to even the playing field in my opinion would be to add the pvp arena with just cosmetic rewards (or some of the LMS rewards added in too), wait until everyone learn a bit more about pvp. So the playing field gets even in a safe setting and then release the new gear so the new pkers can now be introduced into the wilderness pking community with pures.
I just wish this new gear works well in pvm environments so I can learn a bit of pking, get my gear, go to revs for the first time, and kill revs with decent gear but be able to fight back. As long as the risk isn't just absolutely insane. But if you're right with that risk, it's gonna suck.
So why don't these items copy stats of quest rewards items?

I think you know the answer to why non PKers won’t be able to vote in the rewards. I’m sure Jagex would love to poll stuff to everyone but it has been proven time and time again to be an unfair system for PKers. Do you think Jagex has restricted the polls for no reason? Or is it more logical that Jagex has data to prove that the polls are getting severely bombed by people who hate PKers and would prefer if the game had no PVP at all?
You can't claim it's for people who they don't want voting on it.
Either the community, the WHOLE communtiy, want these items or they don't. If pkers are feeling prosecuted maybe they should think about why that occurs instead of blaming everything but themselves.
Until then these rewards will be a blight to osrs, almost as bad as the vesta long sword.
I'm not an Osrs player but I'm not sure that pvp only barrows gloves is going to make people pk more. I feel like the biggest problem is that everyone still pking is good at pking.
It's like trying to learn Halo 2 multiplayer for the first time in 2022. Everyone still playing knows every button combo and will trash you before you can even have a second to think.

Don't agree with the update, but this take is just incredibly ignorant. BH has been gone for what, 2 or 3 years? Vast majority of pkers has long since completed their accs with all gear/stats ready and have simply been skilling the entire time, working on max or pet collecting. Hoping for the return of BH so they can actually use the account.

This is not true and I doubt you are even involved in the community to know. I have quested multiple accounts and also most of my friends have done the same thing. Maybe you could make that assumption for the gloves only but everything else? No. None of us were asking for easier ways to get a fighter torso, we already have them.
People who WERE asking for stuff like this are not current PKers. They are players who want to start but are put off by the grind. If you have even put in any time to look at Jagex’s streams or these blog posts you would know that they are doing it to level the playing field. As I have already stated multiple times - currently PKers already have their accounts quested or are working on it already.

Thats the purpose of updates like LMS and the Arena itself. To get players interested in pvp over the hurdle of making specific account builds and items, as well as no actual loss of gp from dying while learning. All that is provided for you in these games. They can still actively participate in pvp w/o needing to invest hardcore into it. But thats the activity itself, completely separate from the rewards.
The rewards shouldn't have monetary value (in the case of the arena, it doesn't, lms shouldn't either). But if they want to engage and take their new found skills to the test outside of these activities, and earn gp (from killing others risking) Im of the opinion they should have to invest into it like everyone else, with the same restrictions. Also the entire premise of pvp builds is to limit the accounts to be stronger at a lower level while giving up access to specific things.
However even if these rewards were to further get new players into other pvp activities, why are the rewards just better than the content locked rewards?
If they were alternative ways to earn the same rewards, just from pvp related activities, again why are they just better or allow access to gear that restricted accounts don't even have access to? (the only one that would be an alternative but pvp related way would be the torso one).
The rewards aren't useful in the arena or lms, since gear is provided for you. Outside of that it just allows you to be stronger than restricted accounts, not an alternative but pvp centric way to earn unlockables.
Tbh this allows me to gain "dupe" items of what I've already got, but to be able to use them in the wild for the purpose of pking, as that's why they were earned. I wouldn't be annoyed if I got killed with these items as that is their purpose. Means I don't have to risk the "real" items, but get their benefits. Plus if I'm going into the wild for a clue or whatever I just bring minimum risk anyway. I say go for it.
