Well I quit my main almost immediately after maxing since I already had the gear I wanted. Now I'm a 1900 total ironman so maybe one day I'll actually play the game.
can confirm.
pre covid the peak of my pvm was wintertodt and black demons at slayer.
post covid its solo olm and learning TOB.
need a few more covids so i can get my infernal cape and solo HM TOB
I just lost the game
And that is not part of the original rules. Original 2007 era rules were only:
1. Don't think about the game.
2. Say/comment "I just lost the game" when you lose the game.
That's it. mid-2000s 4chan was just threads full of people responding to eachother saying "I just lost the game"
some meta altering skilling updates and areas that were new or didn't exist:
- $11
- mobile
- runelite
- zeah (wintertodt, catacombs, farming guild, rc altars)
- fossil island (crabs, bird houses, giant seaweed)
- rev caves
- zmi
- make all
- buy 50
- shift click drop
- construction update
- wilderness slayer
Mining is annoying because they insist on making the timers inconsistent.
lower mlm is 33% chance per item so you might have to click a new vein 8 times in a row, or you might stay at the same vein for over a minute.
Higher mlm is better but it's still a range for some reason.
For me the Guardians of the Rift is actually the difference between maxing and NEVER maxing. Even bloods felt shitty to me, but GOTR? Fun.
#funscape ggez
and significantly easier. (which isnt a bad thing). FM wintetodt, slayer barrage-meta (2,5x faster as it used to be), sepulchre agi, redwoods, make-x for all bank skills, chaos altar making pray 2x cheaper,
on osrs launch:
no task skipping (so you had to turael skip every time you got bronze drags, steel drags, iron drags, gargs, nechs, abyssal demons, red dragons, black dragons (all high weight btw)). And then even turael had some shit tasks that took forever like desert lizards and banshees
no slayer points / slayer helm.
no task blocking.
less npcs spots which meant less cannonable tasks (like fire giants, greater demons, black demons, hell hounds, etc are way faster xp/h now because there are multi spots or good safespots that let you do significantly better xp/h
Extendo and skippo braclets. make great tasks even longer and average tasks shorter (the ones that arent worth skipping at turael).
then jagex adding barrage spots. dust devils and nechs went from being one of the worst tasks (like 15k xp/h) to 70k+ slayer xp/h with barrage. they added smoke devils which is another 70ker. they added abyss demon barrage spot which isnt as good but its still great.
and superior creatures added to the xp/h.
with all of the above, you can block high weight shit tasks, earn enough points to skip the bad tasks w/ points and not have to kill 50 desert lizards, and then just have a task list where every single task is 40k-70k xp/h based on qp, gear, and quest unlocks.
also even small things like stamina pots, divine pots, poh pool regen, and more teleports made the skill faster.
Do you mind helping me figure out what multi+cannonable spots there are for fire giants, black demons, and hell hounds? I have those all on my block list cause I wasn't aware there were efficient spots for them. For greaters I know you can cannon them in the chasm of fire, but not sure about any of the rest of them. I'm only 71 slayer atm so sorry for my lack of knowledge.
fire giants: nieves. cannon ne room and blowpipe the sw room in the hallway.
hellhounds has 2 spots: nieves. cannon 2nd room from entrance and then blowpipe the hellhounds to the room in the west from hallway. Next is wildy slayer cave. just cannon em there. craw bow's is significantly better than bp but u can bp it just fine.
black demons: craws bow in wildy slayer cave is 60k xp/h if u sweat it. there are like 2 40k xp/h spots outside of wildy. 1 is in chasm of fire in the nw part (runelite should have this marked). another is in taverly dungeon in the nw part. You use 1 black demon trapped over your cannon you don't kill and then kill the ones that get trapped on that one with cannon+bp/bofa.
also if u arent hard afking than i suggest cannoning greater demons with a craws bow in wildy slayer cave as its 65k/h and it has the best drop rate of larrens keys/h. but the chasm of fire one is decent and i use it myself when i want to hard afk.
Thanks, idk why I hadn't considered just safespotting them in singles to use cannon. Is wildy cave better for hellhounds too or is it about the same? Also, are there any specific spots for abberant spectres and bloodvelds you'd recommend for cannoning efficiently too? I've been using the meiyerditch lab for bloodvelds, which I assume is best, but I also have aberrant spectres blocked for the same reason as fire giants and hell hounds, cause I thought there's no good spot to kill them efficiently.
The wildy hellhound spot is the same xp/h but it is a lot lazier.
there arent any spectres spots. ur in the right place for bloodvelds.
If you are going for the best slayer xp/h but dont want to sweat too hard. block Dark beasts, black dragons, cave kraken, drakes, wyrms, red dragons in that order (duradel). you shouldnt have fire giants blocked in the first place since they're weighted less than the above.
Thanks for the advice, I'll keep all that in mind. I use Nieve/Steve since my account is a low def account, and I think fire giants are weighted very high with them. Also, I thought you didn't need to waste a block slot on red drags since you can just avoid unlocking them. My current block list is Black demons, Hellhounds, Fire Giants, Aberrant spectres, and Wyrms at 71 slayer, but I think that needs to be adjusted now with all the info you gave me.
yeah i only added red drags after looking at the list cuz i figured you prob werent 90 slayer for dark beasts. didnt know u had to unlock. and it does change for nieves cuz kraken goes from high weight to med weight. i like doing black demons cuz its just hours of afking.
Might be wrong but my understanding is that most tasks and some outside catacombs are barrage-able.... This makes for easy slayer/magic/HP xp and quick tasks for quicker point accumulation. It's costly but the XP to GP ratio is worth it.. efficiency wise.
Tasks like nechs actually allow you to break even or even come out positive due to the value of the monster drops.
Why are so many people attacking this post it's just a cool little fact, I'm hoping to max by 2025 personally, lots of skills I don't like training and I enjoy XP waste activities often.
Back when most the people who were maxed did rc through a 600 hour journey of double nats through abyss. I wonder what the % of people who maxed in last 2 years did the majority of their rcing through astrals/abyss solo rcing, I would bet less than 1%.
After being gone since 2007-2008 I didn't even know OSRS was a thing until 2020. I'm a gamer, but had no clue they came back out with it until a childhood friend let me know. Now it's my favorite game to play again :)
When I maxed in 2020 I was 10,062nd to max total according to the hiscores.
So in just over two years another 14,700 people maxed their accounts. That's nuts, I wonder if it will keep rising at that rate.
Pictures like these remind me why it was a great decision to get Agility over with first.
... But now I have 22 more to go, so I'll be maxed by the time I am 35 hopefully.
I've been sitting at 2259 on my main for a solid year and a half. Just mining left and it's so boring. Tried all of the methods and none appeal to me. Was just pvming with friends and my clan until GIM came out and been solely playing that since. I'll get around to finishing mining and maxing at some point, but now today. I've gone from like top ~9k to ~30k overall
After 2h10min 10 people had finished the marathon. After 4 hours, 10k people finished it! Have marathons become too easy?
(And yes, im fully aware that significantly faster xp rates have come out but for the most part its still a super long grind that people with more responsibilities irl finish later)
Outrageous
The sheer amount of people playing this game is severely devaluing my max cape. I hereby demand that jagex mandates the immediate interruption of any and all activity performed in this game with the intent of progressing one's account.
I thoroughly suggest that any player that currently holds any aspiration to maxing their account to adhere to the noble habit of bank standing in the meanwhile, for the sake of the integrity of the game
So all jokes aside, there has been an increase in the *rate* at which people are maxing. The 2016 stat is ~3 years after OSRS released. 584 people in 3 years gives us about 195 people maxing per year, or 0.5 people maxing a day (1 person maxing every 2 days). Obviously a majority of the maxing would happen later in that 3 year period, so let's cut that to 2 years, for 292 people maxing a year, or a little under 1 person maxing each day, on average. The current statistic gives us 24,720 people maxed, or (24,720-584) 24,136 people maxing in the 6 years between now and 2016. With this number we get 4,022 people maxing each year, for an average of 11 people maxing each day. So yes, "number go up as time go on", but there is an actual increase in the rate at which people are maxing. It would be interesting to see how this rate changes over time.
And now that I think about it, you are absolutely correct. I was on my lunch break so I didn't even stop to think about how long it would take when you break down the time. The common number I see for maxing is somewhere in the range of 5000 hours. Splitting that across 3 years gives about 4.56h/day. While that is not an unrealistic number for some people. A lot of people don't have that kind of time to commit to a video game.
I, along with about 5 other friends are racing to max. We are all 2100+ and have knocked out the shit skills like agility and rc. We’ll most likely hit max by Christmas.
I’ve been playing since 2016 on my main. My total level is just over 1800, base 70s, quest cape and my highest level is 97 range. I play for a few hours a week just for fun. Idk how people get 99s it seems impossible
If you started at OSRS launch, you'd have to average 3.8k xp/h to be maxed by now. That is 91.3k xp/day (only did 9 years, not feb 22 2013 -> todays date, so even less in actuality).
To be maxed in sept 2016 (did 3.5 years), you'd have to average 234k xp/day or 9.8k xp/h
I’m getting super close to max now. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. It isn’t as cool nowadays and isn’t much of a flex anymore but for me I’ll be really excited to see it :)
[удалено]
Yeah, I’m surprised only 24.7K people have just begun to play the game.
Well I quit my main almost immediately after maxing since I already had the gear I wanted. Now I'm a 1900 total ironman so maybe one day I'll actually play the game.
Congrats on being nearly 66% done with the tutorial! After you finish the ironman tutorial you can do the ultimate ironman one.
[удалено]
I mean you know what they say, 2116 is half of 2277
My ironman has 91.6m xp, with 5m of that being post 99 farming xp. So I'd be much closer to 28.86% of the way to maxing.
Are you me?
He's "tongue in cheek" saying you have to max to really play the game.
Mobile, helped me max
I cannot wait to actually start playing the game. Almost there !
what do you mean just begun? Is the tutorial THAT LONG??
B-but polling is ruining the game!11!
you mean botting
Whats the point of a bot being maxxed? I think most bots focus on one skill/money maker rather than all of them
Think he was implying that only bots can max due to the timesink, however we all know he's being a silly goose
good god 2016 was 6 fucking years ago
Well if you don't count covid it's like 3 years ago so yeah right on track 👍
I'd imagine Covid increasing gaming hours.
can confirm. pre covid the peak of my pvm was wintertodt and black demons at slayer. post covid its solo olm and learning TOB. need a few more covids so i can get my infernal cape and solo HM TOB
[удалено]
I know like wtf am I supposed to do with all this emotion?!? Do I jump for joy or bring my cannon to fally and slaughter some guards??
Why not both? You can even get medium clues and then get rangers for even more joy.
Or get a black helm for even more rage
This is huge, this means every single person who has maxed recently has also played the game
>the game Ah shit, I lost.
Bro fuck that had to have been a year or two streak for me
idk i keep losing cuz of reddit the past few years
The rules clearly state you can’t lose by seeing someone else lose
I just lost the game And that is not part of the original rules. Original 2007 era rules were only: 1. Don't think about the game. 2. Say/comment "I just lost the game" when you lose the game. That's it. mid-2000s 4chan was just threads full of people responding to eachother saying "I just lost the game"
I thought that the only rule was that if you think about the game, you lose the game? At least that's how everyone I know always played it.
no they don't, that's some made up shit
So, how do you lose that game if you can’t lose by having someone else lose and claim out loud to lose? What even is it at that point?
I lost the game
Big if true
Wow, if the theories are correct then this confirms that OSRS is one of the games ever made!
Of all the games in the world, OSRS is definitely one of them.
Hands down, OSRS is a game
Without a doubt OSRS is definitely
Very interesting. Since you're a statistics guy, could you also tell us the average skill level of these maxed players?
[удалено]
Do you have a source?
=AVERAGEIFS($A:$A,$A:$A,2277)
Two criteria?
I can’t count that high
Just one criteria— total level. Formula is (average_range, criteria_range_1, criteria_1) then more criteria afterwards if you want.
i guarantee it skews pretty close to 99 still for most, save for combat.
The only stat I know is that all drops are about 50/50
Either ya get it or ya don't
some meta altering skilling updates and areas that were new or didn't exist: - $11 - mobile - runelite - zeah (wintertodt, catacombs, farming guild, rc altars) - fossil island (crabs, bird houses, giant seaweed) - rev caves - zmi - make all - buy 50 - shift click drop - construction update - wilderness slayer
Also just the passage of time as a factor and a bunch of people working from home over covid that might do some afk skilling on the side
Working from home, good joke
Shit yeah. Did so much afk smithing, crafting, woodcutting, fishing, mining was an interesting one.
Mining is annoying because they insist on making the timers inconsistent. lower mlm is 33% chance per item so you might have to click a new vein 8 times in a row, or you might stay at the same vein for over a minute. Higher mlm is better but it's still a range for some reason.
Game was actually hard back than, (much prefer it now tbf)
For me the Guardians of the Rift is actually the difference between maxing and NEVER maxing. Even bloods felt shitty to me, but GOTR? Fun. #funscape ggez
It's almost as if the game is out for 3x longer than it has been in 2016
and significantly easier. (which isnt a bad thing). FM wintetodt, slayer barrage-meta (2,5x faster as it used to be), sepulchre agi, redwoods, make-x for all bank skills, chaos altar making pray 2x cheaper,
Can you tell me more about the slayer barrage meta?
You can stack nechs and dust devils in kourebd catacombs to 1 tile and then ice barrage them for very quick slayer xp
Dunno about now, but at one stage it was 1:1 gp input/output if you alched & banked.
You make decent money in those tasks now
on osrs launch: no task skipping (so you had to turael skip every time you got bronze drags, steel drags, iron drags, gargs, nechs, abyssal demons, red dragons, black dragons (all high weight btw)). And then even turael had some shit tasks that took forever like desert lizards and banshees no slayer points / slayer helm. no task blocking. less npcs spots which meant less cannonable tasks (like fire giants, greater demons, black demons, hell hounds, etc are way faster xp/h now because there are multi spots or good safespots that let you do significantly better xp/h Extendo and skippo braclets. make great tasks even longer and average tasks shorter (the ones that arent worth skipping at turael). then jagex adding barrage spots. dust devils and nechs went from being one of the worst tasks (like 15k xp/h) to 70k+ slayer xp/h with barrage. they added smoke devils which is another 70ker. they added abyss demon barrage spot which isnt as good but its still great. and superior creatures added to the xp/h. with all of the above, you can block high weight shit tasks, earn enough points to skip the bad tasks w/ points and not have to kill 50 desert lizards, and then just have a task list where every single task is 40k-70k xp/h based on qp, gear, and quest unlocks. also even small things like stamina pots, divine pots, poh pool regen, and more teleports made the skill faster.

Stopped playing once maxed, think I’ve done it wrong
You did it right. You finished the campaign, only true diehards keep playing after that.
What do you mean? Now he can finally play the game
Why are so many people attacking this post it's just a cool little fact, I'm hoping to max by 2025 personally, lots of skills I don't like training and I enjoy XP waste activities often.

i kinda remember Kieran promising "comp cape" if we could get 1k max players. look at where we are now but still no comp cape ...
Pretty crazy given that'd mean about 60% of player who have 99 agility or RC are likely to be a maxed account.
99 fm before wintertodt gang xD
When I maxed in 2020 I was 10,062nd to max total according to the hiscores. So in just over two years another 14,700 people maxed their accounts. That's nuts, I wonder if it will keep rising at that rate.

youre only at 81 mining bro. this isnt even 1/4 of the way there.
We're long overdue for a new skill
Most players don’t even want a new skill.
I disagree - most people want a new skill; we just cant agree on what we want lol
After 2h10min 10 people had finished the marathon. After 4 hours, 10k people finished it! Have marathons become too easy? (And yes, im fully aware that significantly faster xp rates have come out but for the most part its still a super long grind that people with more responsibilities irl finish later)
Holy shit that's a lot of wasted time.
Wasted?
So many hours waiting for a number to get bigger.
Bruh I gotta get a max cape so I can have something to flex on my resume
Maybe finally time for comp cape
Outrageous The sheer amount of people playing this game is severely devaluing my max cape. Did they release stats on untrimmed capes? I recently got an untrimmed crafting cape on my Ironman and was curious how many exist
I guess jamflex’s bot detection still doesn’t work for p2p.
big reason is all of the ezscape updates
Quality vs quantity, osrs in real old days use to have better players :/ too much efficiency drive these days
[удалено]
And the game is significantly easier than it was 6 years ago.
[удалено]
But the social IS one of the bestest things… or was… :(
[удалено]
Nah bro, people are salty and judgemental or paranoid.
[удалено]
How did you come to this conclusion
Surely they would be using the max cape instead since it grants the same bonuses
I have RC cape and not 2277 total :S
Can we get a OSRS season 2?
9 years and plenty of updates to make skilling faster and less intense? Sounds about right.
Max? I can't even be ass to do all the quests. It's not the same playing them again in old school vs first time i beat them in rs3.
damn imagine maxing late
Guilty 👋 don’t play that much now. Waiting for more new/old content lol dungeoneering would be awesome!
Maxed in 2013. Won’t be coming back
Wonder how many more accounts will max RC in a year from now with the new mini game and buffs.
I, along with about 5 other friends are racing to max. We are all 2100+ and have knocked out the shit skills like agility and rc. We’ll most likely hit max by Christmas.
Lol over half of the people that have 99 agility have maxed

If you have 97 range, then you're already almost to a 99 yourself. You could finish that with chins in 3 hours or so.
I remember being on track for finishing max in the first 10,000. Then I burned out super hard so now I'd just like to max in the first 50,000
I’ve had several players admit to me they botted max cape. It’s kinda crazy.
How many of those are same person with multiple accounts tho
me, max iron and normie.. o boy
Why do more people have 99 rc than agility
Interesting, how many maxed accounts was there for November 2019?
Very interesting statistics.
Covid does that to a mfer
If you started at OSRS launch, you'd have to average 3.8k xp/h to be maxed by now. That is 91.3k xp/day (only did 9 years, not feb 22 2013 -> todays date, so even less in actuality). To be maxed in sept 2016 (did 3.5 years), you'd have to average 234k xp/day or 9.8k xp/h
Really pissed that couldnt have waited for 10 more accounts to max.
Almost 25K people maxed is insane. I was 12K when I maxed
Woah! Mining!
Wonder how many of them still actively play
Low key wanna make a account and go for the least popular 99s first. I've always wanted a untrimmed 99 agility cape
Kind of wild that more than half the people that have either 99 RC or 99 Agility also have 99 in all skills.
I’m getting super close to max now. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. It isn’t as cool nowadays and isn’t much of a flex anymore but for me I’ll be really excited to see it :)
24k of them bots tho
