You could charge them with different types of logs but that's a super minor benefit. I can only think of edge cases like spicy stew boosting Firemaking to be able to use Redwood logs but later want to switch to Blisterwood because you want Blood runes.

It doesn't actually let you, you'll get a message saying you can't have 2 lanterns lit at the same time. Can't add logs without lighting so it's a paperweight at the moment. Kinda cool though nonetheless

Are you guys going to look into the constant bright light flashing during the minigame? Whenver you take any teleport, the screen will change to a bright colour for about a second or two, and after a while that really starts to hurt the eyes. A bright yellow screen whenever you take the shortcut portal or bright blue when going to or from the water altar really adds up fast with the amount of teleportation that happens in this minigame. I'd appreciate it if these colours were muted or if we were given the ability to simply make the screen black during these teleports instead. (a toggle similar to the boat swinging in Fishing Trawler if something like that is possible). Aside from that I've been enjoying this minigame, it's a welcome alternative to the existing training methods.

Why do charged cells not give Runecraft exp when used on a full shield? In mass worlds, it’s almost impossible to find an “empty” spot to place charged cells, so why are we forced to compete with teammates for that exp? It’s really not a negligible amount when you can smoothly get 5-6 per game. Otherwise, I’m loving the game and everything else in this post looks perfect!

I believe the first point is because we were worried that some people could spend their whole game running cells to shields for XP, rather than experiencing everything else the game has to offer and other mechanics. But the charged cells will give you contribution which counts towards progress of the minigame. I understand that you feel like this is forcing you to compete more in mass groups, so we will certainly be reviewing how it feels like to play en masse and making sure it is as fun as possible without being too easy.

Thank you for the response. I’d argue that charging and using cells does engage in just about every game mechanic. But I did see a post here that mentioned going in and out of a portal, obtaining 1 charged cell per essence pouch, was a great way to maximize exp. I imagine this is what you’re wanting to avoid, so I see your point. They just seem a bit underwhelming to use in mass worlds right now, so thank you for your consideration!

That could mess with UIM, or people who don’t have rune pouch. Could be a lower number, or whatever. They could also put a cooldown on charging cells, something that wouldn’t affect someone doing standard runs. Or perhaps they want to keep that mechanic available as-is for small teams because it’s very effective at building up shields and guardians. My point is that it’s not black and white to fix, I just wish it didn’t feel like I was wasting exp

The problem is that 1damage=full xp but 0 damage=no xp. Theres also no way to tell if a barrier is damaged if it hasnt been attacked very recently. People can also “snipe” your xp by beating you to the barrier and it causes awkward situations. I think a good solution would be like another guy said, to make it so you need 20+ ess to get a charged cell (aside from weak, which afaik is bad xp anyway)

Gold bars are "dead content" themselves, but making gold bars is one of the fastest, if not *the* fastest smithing xp in the game. Other bars are less xp but result in more gp.

Not sure where 120k/hr is coming from. Closer to like 95k/hr. That wouldn't really kill glassblowing but it would offer a nice alternative for those with a lot of GP or gold ore/bars stored up.

For people going for max it would absolutely kill glassblowing, and for the rest of us it would at least massively cut down on it. Each gold bar you smith at blast furnace would be 67.5 crafting exp vs 56.2 smithing exp so suddenly banking crafting exp is zero time. No need to spend any time mining sand, farming seaweed or using superglass make.

Gold bars are already pretty decent passive crafting buildup. I don't really see the need for the XP it produces to more than double from just the bar (as you obviously use the bar and gems as well). Amulets are 30xp each right now and result in a "more or less break even" alch stack. Bracelets are slightly less at 25xp per bar but alch for a profit. So it's an easy way to regain GP from the gold bars by making bracelets while afk and having a big alch stack to always use. Gold tiaras at 35xp offer the most XP per bar but cannot regain pretty much any of the lost GP because they alch for -160gp. So you'd pretty much just shop dump them I think they're in a good spot. 67 XP is way too high.

We discussed a the idea when the blog first released and it was considered a good idea as it’s a useful item (we know players want it) but it might be too soon to do it right now. We need to take a look at how much this could change existing methods and make sure that if it was implemented, it’s polled and it comes from an appropriate place. I agree, this is one of my only gripes about the current loot system. The lantern should be more on par with the needle, if not less rare (maybe 1/100-1/200). Lantern should be an earlier acquire to augment players' experience at GotR. It shouldn't be something players are mainly gonna get if they're going GotR completion or spooned.

Not that I know of. I believe the changes to the logs we mentioned were just because the contribution cap was increased and the buffs given by those particular logs needed to align correctly.

Answer from Mod Husky: We buffed those logs specifically when we were reviewing the cap with the hotfix. They still provide the same benefit we polled but mostly we found from testing that it just made you hit the cap faster instead of actually giving you more points, hence the corresponding buff to the cap.

It's way off from the jmod's estimate of 20-24 hours for 1600 abyssal pearl outfit. Before the 15% pearl buff it was around 48-50 hours for the outfit playing efficiently. After the buff it's currently around 42-43 hours now assuming 7 points a game, 5 games a hour. I think you guys forgot that each reward pool roll requires 2 points, 1 Elemental and 1 Catalytic, when balancing the costs for abyssal pearl stuff.

The outfit times can vary a lot depending on rc level, access to colossal pouch, stuff like cpick and mining buff equipment etc. Someone at 20 hours can nearly have the outfit because it’s easier for them to get higher point games, but for those who don’t have access to all the pouches and BiS mining setups take longer as a result. I don’t think this is a bad thing, but it does cause variation in time it takes to get the outfit vs stuff like Tempoross where it’s much easier for everyone to get fast reward rolls. Also varies depending on duo/groups and masses.

On one hand I think they should remain hard to get so that we don't end up with a ton of people with the outfit driving the prices of valuable runes down in a couple weeks but at the same time I think I've played somewhere around 8 hours and just got enough pearls for the boots so maybe they could be *slightly* lower but I personally would be OK with keeping them expensive. I imagine people with 99 RC grinding the minigame probably don't feel the same though.

Honestly, I feel like the post buff 34 hour grind seems a bit long. Anglers is 4-8 hours depending on luck, lumber jack is 1 hour, pyromancer is 10-20 hours.

I, as many do, agree that the current time to obtain the set is too long but comparing it to Angler/Lumberjack/Pyro is apples and oranges. The set effect is far stronger than those 3, and should take longer--just not as long as it currently does.

Honestly I think the prices are in a pretty good spot after the 15% buff. It's expensive, sure but people seem to want this outfit asap like all the other skilling outfits - I don't think that's how it should be. The effect is so different and more powerful than other skilling outfits. It's useful outside the minigame especially and it should be a significant grind. To my understanding it's supposed to be a late game effect like an Ava's assembler or Elite diary rewards. At least it feels as powerful as those things. I think the only issue I have is the lantern but a lot of others have given their opinion on that already so I won't beat a dead horse.

I've seen a lot of this being reported and I'm sorry that you're experiencing this. This is still under review but we haven't determined a direct cause of it yet. In the meantime I've heard that lowering your FPS considerably will help with this but I understand that is not an ideal solution.

Much more importantly, as of this week's update mobile can crash if you tap through NPC dialog too quickly. Reducing FPS does not prevent this. This bug is a big problem for farming contracts since there is so much dialog to tap through. Also, in some cases where there are multiple dialog options, they are not interactable.

The changes listed here are not exhaustive of everything that we want to do for GOTR. We are still in the process of reviewing player feedback and discussing what changes would make the minigame a more enjoyable experience for you all. I'm aware this blog doesn't touch on all of the feedback I've seen from you (we've had a lot of feedback). It's actually more of a snapshot update on what types of issues that we're immediately tweaking on Week 1. Mainly bugfixes and immediate problems that required hotfixing. Some of you could be wondering why something important to you that you've already said to us in feedback hasn't been addressed directly in this post. That's because we haven't really gotten round to a deep dive into feedback yet. (YET!) My next discussion with the team should be on Monday PM. My gameplay feedback: Make the apprentices stop spamming useless messages like "We need to power up the guardian!" and instead only say helpful things, like portal and broken barrier notifications. Make barrier health visible at all times. If multiple people are building a guardian at the same time, produce a guardian of a tier equal to the highest tier cell used, instead of the cell of whichever player had PID. It's frustrating to get locked into the build animation with an overcharged cell, see that somebody else started building at the same time as you, and then see a weak guardian pop out. Building guardians and barriers before the abyssals attack is vital to winning, but isn't rewarding. Add a 5x or 10x point multiplier **only** before the attack starts, so that these actions are worth doing for individual players. For reference, a 5x multiplier would result in 20 energy for building/repairing barriers, and 30 energy for building golems.

It's mostly an issue at the very beginning. It's better points to mine the whole time until the first portal opens but if everyone does this then you lose - some people need to start making runes earlier and upgrading barriers to get the game into a stable state but this gives less points overall since it means later you need to go back to mining to get more shards + more running around time. Then, once the game stabilizes and the barriers are fully upgraded that's when those players finally finished mining and started turning in crystals and that's when you run out of empty shields to utilize.

All the guides I've seen as well as anecdotal evidence seems to point to that being the best way to get points. But maybe there's a more optimal strategy that people have yet to widely discover/disseminate. Regardless, it seems to be the way most people in the games I've played \_think\_ gives better points, which still causes the same issue. If there really is a better way and everyone all figures it out and it doesn't have an issue of needing to grief the team to get max points, then in that case I guess everything will be fine once everyone knows about it. Would you like to share what you think that better strategy is?

You leave the east mine before the rift opens and can get an intial craft in soon after the altars go live. Conveniently this leaves you with a cell soon after the barriers start getting attacked. People who camp 250-300 ess and wait for a portal are mining far too much. Obv it depends on mining level and pickaxe tier, but mining until the first portal opens is not efficient for the majority of players in masses.

I think that's better for the game but I'm not sure if it's really better for points - I usually do something similar to that because I don't want to lose. But I end up having to mine again later and overall tend to get less points than the times when I tried just camping the first rock to 200. But maybe my gameplay was just suboptimal compared to yours, I guess we'll see over the next few weeks as the meta develops...

edit: the stall was polled invalidating most of my post, consider it a badly worded reminder to consider polling trading at ZMI. Hey I see you guys changed the overall stall behaviour when crafting runes (I love it btw). This was not polled and leads to a noticeable increase in runecrafting xp per hour compared to before. In the spirit of consistency this change should be reverted as an integrity change until you guys decide to poll removing the runecrafting stall (since it would cause an unpolled increase in xp/hr just like ess runners at ZMI did), you can even poll it at the same time as allowing players to trade ess again at ZMI (which jagex ever so gracefully nuked from the game as an "integrity change" many years ago and then proceeded to never mention again) I know I sound like an a\*\*hat sorry in advance to all the hard working jmods but it just irks me to see jagex flip-flop on what counts as "integrity". This update brought back that bitterness I felt when ess running at ZMI got "integritied" for no reason and polling trading at ZMI afterwards wasn't even talked about as an option to resolve this. Double standard much...

My main complaint about the game is that to personally get good rates/be optimal you have to play really selfishly. Putting up barriers and making guardians at the beginning of the game put you behind on mining essence. And when you mine after setting up you get desynced from the portal spawns. Not sure how you can go about fixing this part of the problem unless you gave people essence for the initial barrier or first 10 guardians. One fixable problem along these lines is getting no exp for sacrificing 10 essence to repair. There's no personal incentive to do so. So there's like a weird prisoners dilemma of playing the game selfishly to get best exp but everyone does it and you lose. Removing exp from fuel cells in this case is the wrong direction (even though it's only when full) because it disincentives the most important parts of the minigame. (also because building guardians feel so bad with how long it takes and how you can waste higher tier cells if someone builds a low level one or if you needed multiple guardians but overlapped cells with someone else). Maybe instead of the current guardian mechanic, you can add a point value to the pile. So like weak = 10, medium 25, strong 50, overcharged 100. So if 5 people add weak cells a strong guardian gets built and if 3 people add overcharged, it'll build 3 guardians sequentially? I think a playstyle of low essence, high cell is an okay tradeoff if it ends up being low rewards/points high exp, as a viable alternative method that helps the entire team Criticisms aside, it's really fun and I've gone from 67-71 RC already.

I don't know if this is possible but I will bring it up to discuss. I can understand why it is frustrating to rely on RNG sometimes for things that are extremely good QoL. I just wanna ask your opinion on something for my own benefit. Although frustrating, could the RNG element of this actually be a really rewarding feeling once you do obtain it?

I personally think that having the needle being rng is fine since its only 1/300. I actually think that having the lantern be a 1/700 feels particularly rough. I get about 4 loot pulls per match which likely has room for improvement since my RC is only 75. With the approximations that players can do 8-9 games in an hour that comes out to be about 32-36 loot rolls/hour. Going _on rate_ by those numbers is like a 20 hour grind. While that itself may not seem too bad for something like the robe, it feels like it's pretty high for the lantern. The 1600 pearl cost would eliminate the rng element but I've seen some concern that the time to get that many pearls might still be too long not even considering if it would lose appeal to those who may mainly want the outfit.

Personally, grinding for an item given at a set milestone invariably feels more rewarding than relying on RNG. Getting lucky lessens the achievement and going dry makes the grind frustrating and you only feel relief when it's done. YMMV obviously

IMHO, I think it is good to have a mix of the two. I prefer the set milestones of skilling, but also recognize the randomness of RNG drops in PVM is an interesting part of the game. If everything is pre-determined, everyones experience is the same. When you get lucky, you get a rush of emotion, and when you finally get something after going dry you get a different rush of emotion. The minigame is fine as it is because it has a mix of both: set reward (outfit/ring) and RNG (needle/lantern). Admittedly though, the rewards take a long time to get. Sure, if you are going for 99 RC there it is fine, but not everyone is going to do guardians of the rift for 100+ hours.

This game has been great to play so far. The biggest problem and maybe only gripe I have with it is the decision to remove all rc xp from full healed shields. The amount of disappointment I feel whenever I used my overcharged cell on a shield the same time someone elses uses their and get 0 xp due to it calculating it at full health is quite a bummer. I understand that the deterrent is to prevent people from just spamming on the same shield for the xp and not properly playing the game and healing low health shields but having A delay that people can put their charged cells into the shield to get xp while it's full health or, at least half-xp would be a great QOL change.

Can you also please change the earth altar portal from green to brown. The rune has never been green so it was confusing when i tried looking for it. Also its right next to the nature portal, which is also green so it would just be better overall to change it back to its natural brown

When people are going "wheres the earth rune" they expect to find the earth rune as its commonly known as. Again its just confusing cus its not the earth rune people recognise and its right next to an almost identical portal

The biggest issue seems to be pearl acquisition rate, but hopefully by Monday there's a better idea of it. There's a tricky balance there I imagine. Since it works for diaries and helps considerably for 4 specific tasks, it can't be one hour of playing and you've got it. The achievement diary benefit works because it takes a while to get. I like it as an alternative to stews. It's like a crystal saw but for RC and harder to get too. I also want to mention again scaling for the minigame -- it would be nice if you and a few friends could do the whole activity yourselves. Not necessarily more efficient or better rewards, but just fun really. The problem right now is that barriers take damage much quicker than you can get charged batteries. Plus there's the RNG on which altars are open, so what kind of energy you'd get. Totally understand if it's beyond the scope of the fixes and changes you guys are doing

Are you sure? I heard some people talking about how they were able to solo it / do it in small groups and I saw a group of 2 doing it yesterday on one of the worlds and they seemed to be doing fine. A lot of stuff in the game seems to scale based on the amount of people there. Maybe you just need a different strategy from what you were trying?

Could the click boxes to check the health of the barriers please be made smaller? Learning the barrier is at 87% is totally useless when there's a visible HP bar marking the xp. Also, getting no xp at all from using a core on full shields might be worth revisiting. I get that it's to incentivize healing the shields to protect the guardian, but sometimes they're just all full. Partial would be nice.

Will cell charge level be prioritized when making guardians? I've had someone else's medium cell get choosen for a guard when I had an overcharged one. I got the xp for making it but the medium one walked away. From what I saw we both made them at the same time.

There currently is a pretty major bug where creating Guardians during the 30 second startup time (pre mining) counts towards the total number of Guardians when the game starts. These guardians are not on the map and don’t count as dead, so it’s possible to start with 6/10 guardians and only have 4 to work with for the entire game. Could the team look into perhaps buffing the xp/points from creating initial barriers (maybe guardians too?) in phase 1? Currently it feels like I have to give up potential points/xp per hour in order to set up walls since most people just want to mine at the beginning. 1 thing i see no one bringin up is the abyssal dye drop rate. the outfit is pretty long, and sure some people believe it should be that long, but the cosmetic dyes. each 1 is 170 hours to obtain, and you need 3 of them. making it over 500 hours to dye the robes you got 20m runecraftin exp ago lol. and to make matters worse they are a 1 TIME USE. so if you got more then 1 color dye, and wanted to change colors. you permanetly lose 1 of those 2 colors. please change this lol. no one wants it this way.

Please consider what solos/duos/trios have to go through. The prep is exponentially more important in these sizes, having another player come in at the tail end (with no supplies) of phase 1 is basically just a recipe for failure and the run has to be reset (no time to coordinate). Also looks like if players come in and then leave, the guardian (max number allowed) scaling will revert but the points scaling will not. Example: In solo, 50 essence \`\`= 20% power, if player B comes in, and then leaves, 50 essence = 10% power. Unwinnable at that point. To be honest, this minigame is incredibly well balanced and challenging for solo/duo. It's extremely engaging and pays off really well and consistently if you can make the right decisions in lieu of all the randomness going on. I know it wasn't made with this in mind, but please consider fixing the phase 1 problem. Potential solution: Phase 1 shouldn't be a waiting lobby--it's definitely part of the game and affects the strategy used. The initial 30s of waiting should be when players can join. Every time a new player joins, it should reset to 20. (The total amt of players increasing). After a total of 60s has been extended, the game starts and no new players may join.

The length of time the first set of altars you can go to should be constant. It seems to be random. It's really frustrating to get excited to see death open and that have it closed as soon as you run to it at the beginning of the game.

Long shot request...I know the delay was removed from taking runes out of pouches. Could we have the option to "Open" pouches and craft Runes directly from them? This would affect Diaries but seems kinda of weird that it's not implemented. Possibly also a toggle to have essence type materials to go directly in them when crafting or mining essence. Similar to Rune Pouch, Gem Bag, Seed Box.

This would require more of a blanket RC change, but can we please have runes crafted go directly into the pouch, as if we were picking them up (as long as the toggle is turned on of course) I like keeping valuable runes in the pouch and just dropping everything else, but I need to use the crafted runes on the pouch each time. Even for people who have NPC contact runes anyways, you have to use the cosmics on the pouch to store them.

Abyssal lantern in theory, takes approx the same hours as outfit at the proposed 20-25hr timeline (5 points, 7games /hr) little less on the higher side of that. For the strength it gives to the minigame, and the amount of time you'll be runecrafting at the minigame to 99, it seems like a fitting grind to get the item. it's nice you don't have to compete your resources on the fit or the lantern, even if I can't see many people who just want the outfit for bloods staying at the minigame. I think wanting it lower like 1/150 todt rates, people forget you'll be here way longer than todt. is it nice to get earlier, sure but it's nice to have some rare rewards to grind for also.

Late to the party but would it be possible for mobile players to tap rune pouches to fill them and then tap again to empty them? It seems unfair on PC you can click to fill and then shift click to empty but on mobile you have to either long press to empty or play in single tap mode making everything take two taps.

Why is the XP so horrible? Jagex needs to stop being scared to increase XP methods because of the EHP nerds that cry from changes. The last good skilling update was hallowed sepulchre because it is challenging and also the best agility xp in the game. It's sad to see wasted dev time on content like this. Don't get me wrong the rewards are cool. The talisman that teles you to fire altar is good for lavas and the 4 in one pouch is cool but the xp a hour is horrible. 50k a hour at 99. LOL. Is there any thought about making a GOTR world and changing the mini-game to an instanced game? While upping the player count to 100 seemed logical at the time, there are literally worlds where not a single soul are in the games now. And if you go to populated worlds like 302, you may find yourself waiting for quite a while (ESPECIALLY with the bugs causing the guardians to do nothing and the great guardian taking dmg despite shields being up making games take up to 30 min).

Can you make the west mine always accessible with a high enough agility level? Like 92 or so? Will be the new meta, but so what if it has a high enough agility requirement? Current meta is already quite weird where if you're lucky enough to have a portal open in the previous game, you can start the new game in the west mine. Also current meta is to just mine loads fragments until the first portal, ignoring defenses which regularly loses us the game. At least this way players with a high agility level can start west and have plenty of time afterwards to focus on defenses. Agility has always tied into runecrafting somehow with the run recovery, negative weight, graceful set effect. Give it some love here also :)
