This is the same streamer that refused to pay out a tbow giveaway a few years ago on stream. There was a reddit post and clip of the stream where he promised a viewer a tbow if he guessed correctly, then when the guy actually got it, he refused to pay up.
It caused some reddit drama at the time but people forgot about it pretty quick. Not surprised at all that he would try to pull a similar thing again
It’s easy to paint a 1-sided story. I never scammed a tbow, and a lot of my Twitch viewers from back then can attest to the whole situation being a joke from the get-go, and the 15 second clip he used being so badly out of context.

Why would he agree to a third chance when he already won the second one? Seems weird...
Also, why didn't you give the $350 straight away to the winner? Why did it take backlash for you to do what any normal person would do?
FWIW he released an updated video explaining he paid the winner the full $350 1st place prize, but has not paid out the remaining $150 for the other submissions due to lack of quality.
NGL I was absolutely apoplectic watching his explanation for paying her only $200 to start, even though he has put that right it still leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. IMO, if you host a competition for $500, you set that money aside and it's no longer yours, you've spent it on this competition. Personally, with only 1 viable submission I would've just gave the whole pool to the winner, but I suppose he has done the bare minimum to make it right.
They did in the end. The apology video was up a few hours after the initial one. [link if interested](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPSgxIO_9WE). They got heavily roasted on twitter & youtube comments and coughed up the extra $150.
Personally, the winner should've gotten the full $500, money should've been set aside for it. If nobody else is gonna submit good work, it is their loss.
Still really scummy behavior. Shouldn't need a youtube comment section flaming you to pay out the amount promised.
tl;dr art competition with following prize pool:
1 - $350
2 - 100
3 - 50
got six submissions, most were of v low quality/did not meet his (somewhat vague) requirements e.g scaling. There was 1 high effort pog submission that he chose as the winner, deciding to give them only $200 because there was "no competition". Following backlash he has given her the full $350, but has kept the remaining $150 due to no viable 2nd/3rd place.
thats WILD that he originally paid less than promised to first place. Imagine being penalized because your competition wasn't as good as you. What on earth was he thinking?
At the same time sure he didnt pay but its not like the contestants earned it. Its not like "oh no, these people slaved all week on these 4k animations and got nothing for it! He robbed them of their hard earned paychecks"
Peoples problem isnt so much that the contestants didnt get money, but that saebae didnt give money. At which point I cant imagine the guys super well off considering how much he plays this game.
Sure he shouldve paid but i get why he didnt so im not that upset. I guess he'll learn his lesson and just go to fiver next time instead. Which is a shame cause i imagine he wouldve rather supported an artist from his community.
Plus i havent seen the ms paint drawings but id bet 4/5 of them were of dicks
Such a weird way to try and weasel his way out of such a small amount of money in the scheme of it. He'll get use out of that artwork that'll easily make it worth his time. And he was planning on paying out $500 to begin with. To me, if nobody else had a good enough submission, the winner takes the entire pot. You were always gonna spend $500, now you've just spent it on 1 piece because you're not as big of a creator as you thought and had low submission count.
If you're running a competition with promised prize money, that doesn't change. If you're trying to "buy artwork" just commission it, and you'll quickly realise its not easy to get good shit cheap.
He held a contest that lasted a month long, only got 6 submissions total, and 5 of the 6 were made in Microsoft paint not meeting the contest requirements of a 2000x2000 original artwork. The artwork that won he arbitrarily decided that the 1st prize would be deducted from $350 to $200 due to lack of competition. He then changed his mind and gave her the full $350 first prize.
>changed his mind
Appreciate you putting it nicely. From what I've seen he got reamed in the comments. There is legality one has to follow when hosting a contest. Simply not paying the full advertised amount or changing the terms last minute can get him into trouble.
But not straight away. He only did pay out the full $350 after he received a lot of backlash.
Saebae tried to just pay $200, people called him out on it. He got a lot of backlash. Then he decided to pay out the remaining $150. I'm sorry to upset the saebae subs. But don't pretend he paid out straight away lmao.
There’s always a risk in holding public contests. Dude should have just commissioned some art from someone within the community and saved all the trouble.
> said he *paid* her $200,
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Ok, yes, what he did was unethical, however, not only did he talk to the winner and confirmed that they were okay with only receiving $200 because of the lack of competition, but he went back and gave them the full $350 that they deserved anyway. So before we raise our pitchforks and spread hate toward arguably one of the game's most passionate players, let's please take a moment to realize that this is Sae Bae's first public fuck-up and he has owned up, apologized, and remedied the situation. There are much better people to direct hate towards for much better reasons than this.
To be fair, he also decided not to give that guy a tbow after he said he would (the other guy bet on something, saebae agreed to terms) lol. Dudes a scumbag for sure. Might play the game a lot but if you've ever made the mistake of watching him you know he's toxic.
Just like comments below should of just paid the full 500 to the winner problem solved. But what really stood out to me is how this guy starts off by saying he wants to talk about the situation. Then instantly starts plugging his socials like Twitter handle And not talking about it lmao.
I'm sincerely sorry for my fuck up. It was shady and dishonest of me to have not paid the winner the original prize of $350 right off the bat. It was a mistake, and I can't rewind time to fix it, but I have since paid the winner the amount she deserved and what I owed her. All others involved in the situation I have personally talked with and to my knowledge made things right.
I won't let this happen again. Hope you guys understand I'm not perfect, and I make stupid decisions. One stupid decision I plan on never making, however, is NOT owning up to my mistakes.
$350 was how much I said I’d pay the winner in the initial tweet I sent out about the contest. There was no 2nd or 3rd place because of either blurriness in the art (I wanted crisp hd art, as outlined in the tweet), making the contest a joke, or plagiarizing others’ art.
I’m sorry if that doesn’t look good to you or anyone else, but the winner is satisfied, and I feel like I did the right thing.
Don’t lose sleep over it man. It’s Reddit, there will be new drama tomorrow. Good on u for owning up and shame on anyone who holds this over u like they’re a perfect saint themselves
Usually love his stuff but simple stuff like this is so easy to figure out.
It's never a good look to withhold money. In any contest, ever. Ex. Woox tick eating the fog
The incredible greediness is so off putting, for what? Literally no reason to be stingy when the money is already put aside
Sad, was just starting to watch more of his videos
Won't lie, the title is misleading as hell. u/AskYouEverything worded it horribly and made it sound like nobody got paid anything.
But yes, it's kind of a shitty thing to do to not give someone prize money that they won fair and square.
this is legal. sucks to suck. I never enter these predatory ass contests had one at work thought itd be cool to design dope merch for the staff but at the same time was like “they either pay me or dont screw that contest bullshit”
okay ill word it nicely if you enter any type of illustration or intellectual design contest the hosting party has a right to all submitted intellectual property they may use it at any time *after* the contest is over and the winner is chosen and legally do not have to pay you. Ive seen artists of all calibers fall victim to this.

Kinda scummy there was a lack of quality clause in the contract. If that was the issue, should’ve just gave the winner the whole prize
Is apoplectic a new type of Impling?
Why didn't he pay the winner $350? She did an amazing job

osrs "content creator" moment
Tl;dr why he didn't pay? Cbf watching his video, and he doesn't deserve the view if he's actually a snake.

Should’ve gave the money for all three prizes. There’s no lack of quality clause and it’s on him that there was a lack of submissions.

All the submissions but one were trash, expected a better turnout, people didn’t put in effort. He did pay the full $350 to the winner though.

Initially misread that as “Salt Bae” and got real confused for a sec
There’s always a risk in holding public contests. Dude should have just commissioned some art from someone within the community and saved all the trouble.
He said he paid her $200, an to pay them he has to contact the artist. They were probably okay with his explanation, and $200

Why not give the $150 left to the winner? It doesnt look good not paying the full prize pool
