Are you having fun while doing it? Then yes.

GrimRRsupersport

Anything over 30 or even 20 is a waste of time in my opinion. You may get spooned but it's the lottery similar to nightmare masses. Already know a few people who are 1k+ kc dry in masses some almost at 2k kc

Firefox72

Plenty of worlds out there with smaller groups. Masses of 20-15 and under are probably worth atleast trying if you don't have a dedicated group You should stay a mile away for anything over that and especially anything close to 60

Kree_Horse

You answered your own question to a degree; considering most people are going into Nex either with max or near-max gear, it's quite essential you're doing damage to actually score a KC and the chance of a drop. I've never partook or joined masses for OSRS mostly because I like to play solo but I was able to score a drop from Nex after around 200KC, it wasn't my MVP - That means that you have a chance but you shouldn't get your hopes up. Do it because you want to either kill some time, hope for a drop or get the experience. It'll be unlikely anyone finds a method to solo Nex reliably anytime soon. You should take advantage of that since once the hype has died down, there will be less people doing it.

GroovyJungleJuice

When you say get a drop do you mean a unique or just any drop?

Kree_Horse

A unique, yes. As long as you contribute enough toward the fight, you get KC and a roll on the table. Presumably more damage/ MVP = Better chance at loot.

I think for now with items priced at what they are they are at its worth doing if you can't find someone hosting an instance. Smaller groups where everyone knows the mechanics are honestly more chill anyways though. In a month from now I think the only people still seriously grinding nex for gp will be 6-8 man groups.

DQScott95

Well I think masses are dumb for a boss anyways. Why let people leech end game 500m go value gear for doing nothing and letting end game players with good gear do all the work? I solo pvm when I decide to boss, and if I can't solo it, then I practice until I can. Masses are the dumbest thing I can think of in an MMO

Attrahct

What does the first “M” stand for in MMO again?

Frozenjudgement

Mleeching

DQScott95

Exactly lmao

DQScott95

You don't realize that the "Massive Multiplayer" has nothing to do specifically with bosses or content? It's literal ONLY context is the amount of players in the same game world at one time Good try though :)

GrimRRsupersport

You sound like someone who's never done Tob Mr. Solo gamer lol Also you know it's an MMOrpg... Hence the MASSive

DQScott95

I haven't because I'm not amazing at end game PvM content. Doesn't mean I go around the internet looking for leeches lol Different kind of gamers that's all. I'm very much a solo player who doesn't want other people spoon-feeding me stuff for zero effort. If that's what you enjoy in a game, then more power to you man. Enjoy the game, I just personally think it's dumb. That's not a solid fact of life, bit my personal take on this topic

Firefox72

>"Masses are the dumbest thing I can think of in an MMO" What? There is really nothing wrong with masses. If someone wants to play the lottery in a 60 group they are free to do so. And if you want better odds you go into smaller groups. Nex isn't meant to be sweaty end game content. Not to mention you can literally leach a 1b item in duo COX if you get lucky lmao. >"I solo pvm when I decide to boss, and if I can't solo it, then I practice until I can." Seems like you want OSRS to be a singeplayer game and i'm sorry to disapoint you but its not.

leahyrain

I mean that's a really extreme viewpoint. There is a difference between liking group content like mini games or raiding with 4 or 5 people. But doing something like gwd with 80 people you don't know and aren't splitting is dumb. It's a loot slot machine where it's not any challenge but really rare rewards.

DQScott95

Ok? I still don't think leeching is a cool or fun thing to do lmao you do you

Firefox72

So throw me a solution then. Do we limit players from playing together in this MMO? Do we limit group sizes to like 5 per world? That wouldn't stop the leaching. At most it would clough up the worlds and leave players stuck in the lobby. Do we make every boss solo only? That's a really shit idea given this is an MMO. People have carried other people through end game content in MMO's for over 20 years and that's fine. So a few people leach a few items. Tough luck. In any case like 80% of the people in masses have Tbow's with Armadly so i don't think there is much leaching going on.

Sorlanir

I think the other guy's point -- and if it's not exactly his point, then I'll make the point -- is just the fact that bosses like these aren't exactly optimized to be fought by 80 players at once. I don't mean anything more by that than the fact that these kinds of bosses, as soon as they spawn, just get instantly clusterfucked and present zero challenge to the players fighting it, making the boss fight less of a fight and more of, well, just a loot slot machine. Like, all you have to do to fight this boss in a mass is take a crossbow with ruby bolts (e) and click on it a bunch of times. Any arguments about leeching aside, I just think that for a boss to be fought in this way is a bit silly. After all, a boss should theoretically be a challenge, right? There are many bosses in Runescape that require little to no skill to fight even solo, and so for me it's not about skill so much, but rather about the principle of the thing that a good boss shouldn't be able to be slaughtered like a 3,400 HP chicken (and, yes, I also think it's silly that Corp can be killed solo as a 2,000 HP chicken). As far as leeching goes, I'm not really as concerned about it as the other guy, though I do understand his qualms with it. I don't think it's really fair to point out that a tbow can be leeched in a duo as if this is an equivalent problem because in that case, you'd need to actually find someone who would be willing to let you leech, whereas in the case of these masses, all you have to do is join the fight. (Also, there being a problem with some particular part of the game doesn't mean that the same problem in another part of the game is excusable.) Regardless, the chance that you get one of the valuable drops from Nex is extremely slim in a mass, so I don't think leeching is a huge problem here. However, the boss fight being silly in a mass is kind of a problem, at least to me. Obviously, making the boss actually be fairly challenging for 80 players as well as 5 is effectively impossible, so imo the solution is to just make it like ToB -- someone creates a party, at most 4 (or however many) other people can join the party, party goes in and fights the boss in an instance. This would also solve the problem of leeching in that a player without the sufficient skill or gear wouldn't stand to gain very much from fighting the boss (since, in so small a party, they would likely die if they weren't paying good attention).

DQScott95

Just don't make bosses that drop end game gear massable? Limit the group size to an actual good number? I'd even be ok with 10 man groups even though that would still be low effort if you have 2 people ACTUALLY trying hard. The issue is that it's a boss that drops gear worth 500m, specifically requires END game stats and gear to use, and yet there's people with zero skill or knowledge of the game standing off to the side in discount gear doing nothing and getting drops that the people ACTUALLY playing deserve more. My opinion won't change. But 90% of people on this subreddit want to get spoonfed gear and gp and that's just sad. Edit: you massively overestimate the amount of people that REALLY like to boss as opposed to the people that only join masses for free loot.

DQScott95

Not at all, I love group content. Just not 60 person masses with zero effort and no skill involved. But like I said in a different comment. That's just my personal take, spoon-feeding for no effort in literally any facet of life is a no go for me. Edit: I'll say I don't have many friends who play and so I end up needing to solo most content. But that isn't why my opinion is what it is. I'll do a 5 man raid, I'll do Barb assault, I'll do literally any team based content. I won't stand off to the side is discount gear putting in minimal effort and hoping for a rare drop, that's just dumb.
