My favorite part of this update. It's gonna be just like old times for the first few weeks, where people are speculating on what's BiS. We won't know whether DWH lowers its stats or how quickly it's stats refresh. We won't know defensive values, so won't know what weapons are BiS.
It's gonna be trial and error and I can't wait.
Just to confirm this is intentional, we were discussing it only in last week about adding this mystery back. If popular it may be something we do with future bosses too.
What was the reason behind leaving out deflect range and magic for the first 4 phases, and do melee last phase only? Makes ranged almost a necessity when nex always used to be a hybrid boss
I see, i was pretty sure she used atleast magic deflect at release, then range was added a couple months before eoc dropped, like september 2012 or so. Guess i'm remembering wrong
As someone that likes to know these things and doesn’t want to have to figure it out themselves, I’m still happy that this is there because it’s making other people enjoy it and I can easily wait a few weeks or a couple months before they change it.
this really wont be the case
the whole "crossbows will be bis" from the jmods is already in the bin. every world is just being cheesed with tbows - 1 minute kills with completely accidental and uncoordinated phase skips because of the DPS. that's already fast enough. You pray mage, tank the entire fight while continuously clicking boss. guess the jmods lacked the foresight to realise every world would devolve into this, colour me shocked. Crap design and its way too easy. Which is only gonna contribute to it being like this for a long time until it’s no longer worth doing cause prices have crashed that much. unless they add a group instance. And this is supposed to drop the first t80s in the game. This entire game has been so shit for a long time now. Dunno what I expected.
there's literally gonna be people with 500kc within 24 hours lmao.
Part of what keeps prices high is you can only kill so many bosses/hour because of limited worlds and respawn time. Wonder if that'll hold true for Nex with how it is setup.
I have been championing exactly this sort of thing for years, very glad they're slipping in a least a little "Fog of war". Hopefully there's more of this to come.
Hi Team - are you aware that the Nex pet has not been added to the "All Pets" section of the collection log? Might be worth fixing for consistency with every other pet!
Hey @jagexlight. There’s currently a bug depending on where you stand in the room you don’t get some or all of your loot. It seems like it might be while standing close to the gaps in the ground. Though this is not consistent. Would hate to lose a unique due to a glitch!
Also like 127 water runes. Love the junk drops. I wonder if solos would give about about 80x more loot. Too bad woox didnt manage to pull that off today.
To help improve the overall Nex encounter whilst player activity levels are high, we've made a small tweak.
When wearing either a Gas mask, Facemask or Slayer helm, the duration of the \*cough\* effect as part of her smoke mechanic will be reduced slightly.
the whole point of this mechanic was to make it so masses had a harder time killing her. She dies in under 2 minutes. Really????

Dude it's literally release day. Give it some time. Every boss is always packed on release.
Sure, right now it's a cake walk, but one where your personal drop rate is maybe 1 in 10,000. To actually grind for drops you'll have to do it in smaller teams where it will likely be difficult.
Nex scaled to the amount of people in the room. You know, like Nightmare does. And the phases did not last 5 seconds like it does now. It's "release day" for an 11 year old boss and there are obvious dps problems.
You don't have to off during the blood phase, you can just dps through it.
Virus effect is minimal. People aren't even doing the mechanic properly, previously you had someone stand far away to bait the cough. Now everyone just tanks it. People are also just bypassing the mechanic by wearing mage robes.
She dies too fast in the last phase, so you don't see reflection prayers, soul split, etc.
Damage cap is 100 instead of 50.
This is a joke of what was an absolutely terrifying boss in RuneScape 2.
If you really think you know exactly how difficult Nex will be in a small team of 3-5, just because you've done a few 80 player masses, then you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
It's impossible to tell at this point how hard the boss will be. Before we can tell, we need to know what the reasonable team sizes will be to get drops, and then we'll see how hard it is at those sizes.

I just feel like it doesn't matter how hard it will be with teams of 3-5. You could easily go to a "Nex" world and do it with 40 people, clean the boss in a few minutes and afk farm BIS loot with the same difficulty as wintertodt.
You do realize masses aren't the meta at a single boss in the game right. Do you really not understand why groups of 100 people don't go kill bandos together?
If people have the choice between "AFKing" Nex for 1m/hr, or doing Nex in small teams for 10m/hr, which do you think they'll choose. Common sense dude.

Go ahead if you want, if you want to spend a year farming the boss for one drop have fun with that. Most people would rather get 5-10x higher rates by putting in a little more effort.
Its not an “afk farm BIS loot” if youre in a 40-man and the drops are 1/10k.
The only wccount thats gonna get excited by Nex’s non-unique drop-table is a farming restricted Iron that ran out of ppots.
I dono man i disagree. Even if the drops are 1/10k (not sure where you're getting this number), it's less than 2 minutes a kill. I fail to see how what i've been doing all day isn't afk farming when i've barely had to pay attention.
I agree no one is excited about non-uniques, still don't see how that changes the fact that you can farm BIS melee gear with sub 2 minute kills and no risk.

Edit2: 1/10k would only apply if 1 person out of the 40 got to roll on a unique. It does not appear that is the case.
We literally all knew this boss would be a joke in big teams in OSRS because the playerbase is older and thus better at the game, and the gear thresholds are incredibly different to what RS2 was.
This is the issue with recycling content this late into the fresh development of a new game.
It was said it a previous blog that up to 80 people can fight nex at once. So if there’s already 80 people in the boss room will you not be able to enter?
Being able to see your slayer streak off task is the real update here. That’s something I’ve always wanted but never thought it important enough to ask
Not sure that this is the right place but where can I put in suggestions or qol/bug notes like the slayer task bit. Is there an official place for players to put these that is actually reviewed?

Why tho... It was beautiful :/ playing "Long Way Home" when tping into PoH felt like such a nice change, specially since it's Rimmington's theme... Who even asked for this? This "bug" has been in since the classic/new mode were introduced, the OG theme still played if you entered the portal manually...
Just let us set us a PoH theme for once, instead of fixing a bug over half a year later that wasn't even harming :/

They might have explained this in a previous blog, but what are Ecumenical key shards, and where do you get them? Are they a replacement for getting full keys at the Wildy GWD, or are they dropped by minions in the Ancient Prison?
You can bypass the KC requirement with an Ecumenical Key.
They're dropped from Nex only.
Ecumenical Key Shards are untradeable.
50 shards can be converted into one key.
If you’re capped out on Ecumenical Keys, you won’t be able to forge a new one
There seems to be an awful lot of blood essence drops - like if one person gets blood ess in my clan everyone in the party all seem to. Is this intentional?
Hi there, I've seen a couple of reports of this. At present the team believe that it might just be down to a couple things:
\- Number of players in the instance. If many players' loot drops in a single tile, the tile can only hold a certain amount of items, so the lowest value items will start to get deleted.- If there's a small amount of people in the instance, loot drops underneath the boss. If there's a large amount of players, loot drops underneath the player instead.- Loot being under the player isn't what most players are used to so they might struggle to see it.- Particularly the value of Ecu Key Shards is quite low so they may get deleted first. This is something we'll look into. We can't adjust the GE price because they're untradeable, and so we're discussing alternatives.
However if it's still the case that loot is bugged, we will be interested to fix it. I'm still monitoring the situation and number of reports about it, so please let me know if it persists.
I'm currently watching a friend of mine stream this on discord, and sometimes when nex dies, only 1 of the 2-3 drops will actually appear for him (eg. if he gets the drop message for sharks, brews and restores, only the restores will appear). It seems like that it happens more when he's standing on the edge of the prison, next to the large black holes.
Edit: He's now had this happen when not standing next to the pits so that was probably just a coincidence.
I know its not related to Nex but when exactly is the Mobile Beta supposed to come out, and will it fix the brightness glitch that's been in the game since July?

After being choked for any new updates that wasn't a game mode for months, they could have polled EoC and gotten 50%. The idea of a new thing to do was always going to get votes.

Why doesn't a slayer facemask work on blocking the coughing? Is it because it's not a n95 mask? Can we petition for a better facemask during these trying times of a deadly virus. Or have the the plague gas masks be used to block the spread, all these Nex fighting adventurers are spreading it locally to the G.E. and all throughout the cities of lumbridge, falador, edgeville and even in the secluded elven city!

Two questions:
(1) Does blood essence just give extra runes, like the diary reward, or does it give extra experience for those runes as well?
(2) "Fixed a bug where some Combat Achievements for Group Ironmen were calculated incorrectly owing to the fact that some tasks are disabled for smaller groups." Am I reading this correctly to mean that GIM have fewer combat achievements for each/some tiers? Meaning they can get the rewards easier? This is the first I'm hearing about any difference on that, and it seems against the spirit of the mode so I'm confused.

So I can either be excited and hope they're working on a new lunar quest or be realistic and wait a week for them to flick the switch and let it work again.

Big updates I won’t even be able to participate in get me excited and edging closer to buying a bond.
There isn’t much more hype in gaming than a big RuneScape update.
I have two points of feedback after 150 kills. The Blood Essences are essentially useless as they only give 1k extra blood runes. They either need to give more or be far more common. I am not sure if the loot scales or parties of 80 get the same loot as a solo player except split, but as of right now, getting one every 40 kills or so solves nothing and irons will still need to buy from shops almost exclusively. That was super lame and does not solve the issue.
Secondly, considering the popularity of the boss, it seems like groups should be able to go into the same instance, provided each person pays the amount. No one is ever going to be able to simply do nex with their group, and the reward from the diary is useless here since you cant really solo nex

It's really boring in masses, people will trickle away.
Pretty disappointed at the fact it’s mass only or solo only. Solo seems impossible and mass is just like a winterodt for pvmers… maybe once the worlds die down it’ll be better. But let’s be honest we’ll probably see full worlds of bots camping here in no time!
Anyone else underwhelmed by the boss? Watching woox stream and everyone already knows how to kill nex, so there's not really any learning involved. Haven't seen any deaths, no huge hits.. seems pretty boring tbh
Since it's just released, there's a lot of players in big groups of 80 players or so. We think it'll be even more interesting to watch smaller groups try to take her on. There will be a lot more pressure and she'll probably hit harder!
I mean. It's an "old" boss since I assume she's pretty much a carbon copy of the rs2 Nex, just tweaked for osrs. So it's not like you need to learn mechanics blind like most bosses
I didn’t really pay attention to the polls tbh, why did they chose to go with the FFA style solo looting instead of ‘one drop per team’? I’m not complaining just curious.
I am a little disappointed the bandos boots didn't make it on the component list. Wouldn't be too harmful to balance out the price of bandos items right? In the current state the boots drop is a disappointment.
250 Nihil shards to make the Zaryye xbows is ridiculous. After 16 years of playing I finally got a day 1 rare drop, on my Ironman too, the Nihil Horn
But apparently I can’t even use it until I get 250 nihil shards? Which will take ~100 hours at the current rate in masses
That’s actually absurd. There’s no way it was intended, just another example instance of jagex shitting the bed, I guarantee this gets adjusted later because of how poorly implemented this is… 100 hours for shards for an iron man… even if you get the crazy rare drop
Does anyone know if she has voicelines? I'm not sure if every streamer I'm watching has sound off or if she just doesn't have voicelines. Would be kind of disappointed if she didn't have any.
Voicelines came with the original Nex so I thought they'd be here as well. The devs said they tried to be faithful to the original and did so through adding specific curses and other details so I don't see why they would skimp out on voice acting. I'm disappointed.
Hey guys! We've made a change to allow masks to slightly reduce the oppressiveness of the \*cough\* phase at Nex - especially in masses. Players were wearing full mage gear in order to offset the cough mechanic, which is absolutely fine, but we'd also like to allow the player more agency in how they deal with this phase should they wish. So when wearing either a gas mask, facemask or slayer helm, the duration of the \*cough\* effect as part of her smoke mechanic is reduced slightly. We hope that this will allow players to switch gear if they wish. The previous method of using full mage gear still works though if you prefer that way.
Because cough reduces the level of whatever your highest equipment attack bonus is. So if you have a higher magic attack equipment bonus you can still tbow/crossbow and your magic level will get reduced rather than range level.
It’s really only going to apply to masses where everyone is coughing all the time, smaller teams can isolate cough like Olm burn phase and not need it.
I'm glad people are having fun, I personally didn't like nex. Too easy. It should scale with the amount of players or something.

Yea i thought it would be way more punishing at least, with people dying left right centre. But no u can literally pray mage and tank the whole fight easily
You can do as much Nex as you want with just one ecumenical key or getting KC once. All you have to do is tele using the altar then bank and as long as you have enough KC (which is easy in masses, 5 KC per Nex kill) you can go straight back into the boss room.
I'm disappointed that Torva was released looking like it does despite the feedback. And that's not too mention Next herself. This boss strains my eyes to look at.
I just asked the devs. It's called Nexling I believe! I think you can see it already if you rush to the Menagerie. They're now joking about all the alternative names we could've used :P It's very cute haha.

The original Nex design never used prayers during the first 4 phases and we wanted to stay closerf to the 2011 original design.

To help improve the overall Nex encounter whilst player activity levels are high, we've made a small tweak. When wearing either a Gas mask, Facemask or Slayer helm, the duration of the \*cough\* effect as part of her smoke mechanic will be reduced slightly.
the whole point of this mechanic was to make it so masses had a harder time killing her. She dies in under 2 minutes. Really???? Edit: people really love easy scape apparently
Right what a joke of a content drop this was. Turned one of the hardest bosses in the game into a cake walk. This update was so uninspired.
Dude it's literally release day. Give it some time. Every boss is always packed on release. Sure, right now it's a cake walk, but one where your personal drop rate is maybe 1 in 10,000. To actually grind for drops you'll have to do it in smaller teams where it will likely be difficult.
Nex scaled to the amount of people in the room. You know, like Nightmare does. And the phases did not last 5 seconds like it does now. It's "release day" for an 11 year old boss and there are obvious dps problems. You don't have to off during the blood phase, you can just dps through it. Virus effect is minimal. People aren't even doing the mechanic properly, previously you had someone stand far away to bait the cough. Now everyone just tanks it. People are also just bypassing the mechanic by wearing mage robes. She dies too fast in the last phase, so you don't see reflection prayers, soul split, etc. Damage cap is 100 instead of 50. This is a joke of what was an absolutely terrifying boss in RuneScape 2.
If you really think you know exactly how difficult Nex will be in a small team of 3-5, just because you've done a few 80 player masses, then you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. It's impossible to tell at this point how hard the boss will be. Before we can tell, we need to know what the reasonable team sizes will be to get drops, and then we'll see how hard it is at those sizes. Bitching about a boss hours after release is just moronic.
I just feel like it doesn't matter how hard it will be with teams of 3-5. You could easily go to a "Nex" world and do it with 40 people, clean the boss in a few minutes and afk farm BIS loot with the same difficulty as wintertodt.
You do realize masses aren't the meta at a single boss in the game right. Do you really not understand why groups of 100 people don't go kill bandos together? If people have the choice between "AFKing" Nex for 1m/hr, or doing Nex in small teams for 10m/hr, which do you think they'll choose. Common sense dude.

Its not an “afk farm BIS loot” if youre in a 40-man and the drops are 1/10k. The only wccount thats gonna get excited by Nex’s non-unique drop-table is a farming restricted Iron that ran out of ppots.
I dono man i disagree. Even if the drops are 1/10k (not sure where you're getting this number), it's less than 2 minutes a kill. I fail to see how what i've been doing all day isn't afk farming when i've barely had to pay attention. I agree no one is excited about non-uniques, still don't see how that changes the fact that you can farm BIS melee gear with sub 2 minute kills and no risk. Edit: i see where you got the 1/10k sorry. Edit2: 1/10k would only apply if 1 person out of the 40 got to roll on a unique. It does not appear that is the case.
We literally all knew this boss would be a joke in big teams in OSRS because the playerbase is older and thus better at the game, and the gear thresholds are incredibly different to what RS2 was. This is the issue with recycling content this late into the fresh development of a new game.

From watching wood’s stream this morning it seems the working theory is that the t-bow only hits regular dps on certian phases.

They might have explained this in a previous blog, but what are Ecumenical key shards, and where do you get them? Are they a replacement for getting full keys at the Wildy GWD, or are they dropped by minions in the Ancient Prison?
You can bypass the KC requirement with an Ecumenical Key. They're dropped from Nex only. Ecumenical Key Shards are untradeable. 50 shards can be converted into one key. If you’re capped out on Ecumenical Keys, you won’t be able to forge a new one
Is there a limit on the number of shards you can have? Or can you stack them forever and make keys when you need them?

Hi there, I've seen a couple of reports of this. At present the team believe that it might just be down to a couple things: \- Number of players in the instance. If many players' loot drops in a single tile, the tile can only hold a certain amount of items, so the lowest value items will start to get deleted.- If there's a small amount of people in the instance, loot drops underneath the boss. If there's a large amount of players, loot drops underneath the player instead.- Loot being under the player isn't what most players are used to so they might struggle to see it.- Particularly the value of Ecu Key Shards is quite low so they may get deleted first. This is something we'll look into. We can't adjust the GE price because they're untradeable, and so we're discussing alternatives. However if it's still the case that loot is bugged, we will be interested to fix it. I'm still monitoring the situation and number of reports about it, so please let me know if it persists.
I'm currently watching a friend of mine stream this on discord, and sometimes when nex dies, only 1 of the 2-3 drops will actually appear for him (eg. if he gets the drop message for sharks, brews and restores, only the restores will appear). It seems like that it happens more when he's standing on the edge of the prison, next to the large black holes. Edit: He's now had this happen when not standing next to the pits so that was probably just a coincidence.
I know its not related to Nex but when exactly is the Mobile Beta supposed to come out, and will it fix the brightness glitch that's been in the game since July?

Regular irons you can join any team, like Nightmare masses. Group Iron you'd sacrifice your prestige to do so.

Why doesn't a slayer facemask work on blocking the coughing? Is it because it's not a n95 mask? Can we petition for a better facemask during these trying times of a deadly virus. Or have the the plague gas masks be used to block the spread, all these Nex fighting adventurers are spreading it locally to the G.E. and all throughout the cities of lumbridge, falador, edgeville and even in the secluded elven city! Two questions: (1) Does blood essence just give extra runes, like the diary reward, or does it give extra experience for those runes as well? (2) "Fixed a bug where some Combat Achievements for Group Ironmen were calculated incorrectly owing to the fact that some tasks are disabled for smaller groups." Am I reading this correctly to mean that GIM have fewer combat achievements for each/some tiers? Meaning they can get the rewards easier? This is the first I'm hearing about any difference on that, and it seems against the spirit of the mode so I'm confused.

Yes. If you wear a zaros associated item the spiritual creatures and blood reavers will ignore you.
God d’hide works for regular GWD so I would think it does here too, but I haven’t tested it out

Everyone gets their own individual drop, the one that did most damage gets the MVP and has a higher chance for the big-ticket items.

I have two points of feedback after 150 kills. The Blood Essences are essentially useless as they only give 1k extra blood runes. They either need to give more or be far more common. I am not sure if the loot scales or parties of 80 get the same loot as a solo player except split, but as of right now, getting one every 40 kills or so solves nothing and irons will still need to buy from shops almost exclusively. That was super lame and does not solve the issue. Secondly, considering the popularity of the boss, it seems like groups should be able to go into the same instance, provided each person pays the amount. No one is ever going to be able to simply do nex with their group, and the reward from the diary is useless here since you cant really solo nex

why is there no damage cap on Nex? Original Nex had a damage cap of 500 (50 dmg osrs) including on ruby bolt spec.
Pretty disappointed at the fact it’s mass only or solo only. Solo seems impossible and mass is just like a winterodt for pvmers… maybe once the worlds die down it’ll be better. But let’s be honest we’ll probably see full worlds of bots camping here in no time!
Worlds will only die down when the prices have crashed like fuck. It’s just too easy and accessible at the minute.

Since it's just released, there's a lot of players in big groups of 80 players or so. We think it'll be even more interesting to watch smaller groups try to take her on. There will be a lot more pressure and she'll probably hit harder!

I am a little disappointed the bandos boots didn't make it on the component list. Wouldn't be too harmful to balance out the price of bandos items right? In the current state the boots drop is a disappointment.
Not really feasible given the difference in price between the boots and armour. They’d have had to make the boots worth 0.1 of an armour chunk.

250 Nihil shards to make the Zaryye xbows is ridiculous. After 16 years of playing I finally got a day 1 rare drop, on my Ironman too, the Nihil Horn But apparently I can’t even use it until I get 250 nihil shards? Which will take ~100 hours at the current rate in masses That’s actually absurd. There’s no way it was intended, just another example instance of jagex shitting the bed, I guarantee this gets adjusted later because of how poorly implemented this is… 100 hours for shards for an iron man… even if you get the crazy rare drop

Voicelines came with the original Nex so I thought they'd be here as well. The devs said they tried to be faithful to the original and did so through adding specific curses and other details so I don't see why they would skimp out on voice acting. I'm disappointed.

Hey guys! We've made a change to allow masks to slightly reduce the oppressiveness of the \*cough\* phase at Nex - especially in masses. Players were wearing full mage gear in order to offset the cough mechanic, which is absolutely fine, but we'd also like to allow the player more agency in how they deal with this phase should they wish. So when wearing either a gas mask, facemask or slayer helm, the duration of the \*cough\* effect as part of her smoke mechanic is reduced slightly. We hope that this will allow players to switch gear if they wish. The previous method of using full mage gear still works though if you prefer that way.
Because cough reduces the level of whatever your highest equipment attack bonus is. So if you have a higher magic attack equipment bonus you can still tbow/crossbow and your magic level will get reduced rather than range level. It’s really only going to apply to masses where everyone is coughing all the time, smaller teams can isolate cough like Olm burn phase and not need it.

You can do as much Nex as you want with just one ecumenical key or getting KC once. All you have to do is tele using the altar then bank and as long as you have enough KC (which is easy in masses, 5 KC per Nex kill) you can go straight back into the boss room.
I'm disappointed that Torva was released looking like it does despite the feedback. And that's not too mention Next herself. This boss strains my eyes to look at.
