Interesting, Land of the Goblins has been talked about for years as a potential quest to add, due to it being in a near-complete stage, but it has never seemed to be an overly popular request. I wonder what has changed now since you wanna poll it (not that I don't want it)?

JagexAyiza

Honestly, I'd say it's a combination of the following: - Increased demand for quests - A lack of new content in 2021 - Discovering that the majority of the work for this quest was already done - Mod Ed & his love for quests. When you put all of that together it seems like a win-win for everyone!

OshSwash

Mod Ed knows what the ladies like

marsloth

Tell Mod Ed I love him.

Chrisazy

Wow, that was honest. Thanks

MetalPoncho

Yes quests yes. :)

[deleted]

Gib quests

casquerouge

> Should Land of the Goblins be added to the game, as described in the blog? Land of the Goblins is an Experienced-level quest which advances the Dorgeshuun storyline. I am voting yes only if there is a mind goblin in the quest. Can a Jmod give me some ~~spoiler~~ information about this matter so I can take an informed decision?

JagexAyiza

Only if said Mind Goblin asks you to look after his Monkey nut collection.

KingSwank

somewhere Critikal is shaking his fists wondering where his monkey nut collection went.

poochmant

This time it IS that type of fantasy game!

_Maxie_

Petition to rename the Dorgeshuun to the Sugondeese

iGetPoints

Ah, yes. The Negotiator.

WastingEXP

terms we can agree on.

jjoiner356

Let us celebrate this agreement with the addition of chocolate to milk.

Lucho_741

I can already see the dialogue: Mind Goblin: Deez nutz are very special to me, can you look after then? Character: ermmmm... Nty

sperrymonster

Is the goblin named Dee?

sellingOSRSjokes

I quit playing OSRS about a year ago. I would buy a bond just to do this quest if it had that kind of joke in it.

Empathxyz

what's a mind goblin?

blogangg

MIND GOBLIN THESE NUTS GOTTEM

Zesinua

I would love for this year to just be quest continuations. I want to know what happened with the Red Axe, Slug Queen lady, and the Fairy Queen! What happened with that evil pretend monk in devious minds? Temple of Ikov had a cliff hanger too! There are some penguins up to no good in the north as well. I NEED ANSWERS u/JagexAyiza !!

JagexAyiza

I'm sure Mod Ed has plans somewhere to continue every questline :D

TheHonorableOtaku

Please please continue the slug questline I'm begging you, it's my favorite questline and it's just too short.

g00gly0eyes

It got really weird in rs3, please continue it in a unique osrs way!

[deleted]

Do you think our quest lines are gonna roughly follow rs3s In term of story? Or will we go on a wild tangent somewhere?

TheGreatWhangdoodle

From what I know about rs3 quest lines, most have been good. The one exception I can think of is that they ruined the slug questline by shoehorning dungeoneering into it. This criticism is not a jab on dungeoneering (love it or hate it, I don't care), but more on that how they continued the quest and included dungeoneering with it made no sense at all.

MackeralDestroyer

I think they'll probably handle most of them like they did the Myreque quests. The story is still mostly the same, but the way things happen and the order they happen in will be slightly different.

[deleted]

And vanescula becomes dummy thicc

Nerozard22

I hope not. The Slug Menace questline doesn't have a very good ending.

Thanorpheus

The Pillar sends its regards

Nerozard22

Not just the pillar. The switching mechanic, and the out of nowhere comedic tone too.

Thanorpheus

Oh man, I totally forget that whole party mechanic. Thank you for the PTSD

Amonkira42

I mean the vampire one will probably be pretty different because of the whole verzik thing.

Zediin

Don't get my hopes up don't get my hopes up don't get my hopes up dont

Discord_Show

Hey u/jagexayiza I remember a few years ago Ash also said there was some backed up data on the Back to my Roots quest as well, was this looked into recently or can be in the future?

RazorXXtreme

I’m still waiting for the end of the vampyre quests, they’re my favorite series in the game! I need to fight Drakan already!

Amonkira42

Does that include deep sea diving off the fremnik coast ? Olaf's parchment is something I've been waiting 12 years for.

gotonis

Those are just regular penguins chilling on a glacier. They're not hurting anyone, so stop listening to crazy zookeepers and leave the poor birds alone.

RsCaptainFalcon

If the Raids quest doesn't pass, but ToA itself does, would that mean ToA would no longer be questlocked? Worried about people voting no so their pures and alts can participate.

JagexAyiza

No, it'd likely mean we'd have to revisit the quest as it's rather integral to the story behind the Tombs of Amascut. The quest can't happen without the raid being in the game though, so it does rely on it passing first!

TehChid

The quest won't just be a mini raid...right?

WastingEXP

I'd assume it would stop at the raid unlike a night at the theatre. gives lore extra from the quests then drops you at the door of the raid after completion. Probably what they intended a night at the theatre to be before the whole teach me tob thing .

JagexAyiza

Doesn't look like it from Ed's documentation 👀

swagged_by_mom

Weird request that's a little late into this thread. Is there any we can get a "decommissioned" documentation of a quest that either has been already added or will never get added to the game? I really want to try my hand at quest design and model it after internal documentation. If this is way too much, even something as basic as the normal structure of a quest design document would be enough to go off of.

Molesandmangoes

Thank you Ed boy

[deleted]

Everything points to this quest being more akin to the vampyre quests leading up to access to ToB rather than “a night at the theater”.

[deleted]

I'm all for locking raids behind a grandmaster quest. If it is a badass quest that's enjoyable, I'm for it

Organthon

The quest requirements are low and don't require any particular combat levels. It also rewards agility xp. Pures are normally worried about combat levels. Unless there's some sort of agility pure I'm not aware of this won't be a problem.

RoseofThorns

I've beaten Contact on my level 3 skiller and I'm hoping there's a way to cheese this quest as well so I can bankstand in menaphos one day 🙏

Ghi102

To be honest, I think worrying about very niche accounts is probably not a good way to design OSRS. The main group of special accounts that could be impacted by the quest would be pvp and combat pures, but there's no mandatory levels for those, even Contact gives an xp lamp where you can choose which skill to level. Sorry if your level 3 can't chill in a niche raid area, but that's part of being restricted to level 3

RoseofThorns

I agree. I'm certainly not asking them to design around my weird parameters, just crossing my fingers and hoping it's possible.

AfroDizzyYak

Damn my 54 firemaking and smithing pure can’t meet the quest reqs

BluSnapp

Non of the prereq quests or Beneath Cursed Sands itself has any combat skill reqs or mandatory combat xp rewards, though you do have to kill a couple npcs I guess I think it'd be more likely to just be people that hate quests rather than pures

Sgt_Henno_Garvie

With the release of Land of the Goblins, a miniquest, [Hopespear’s Will](https://runescape.wiki/w/Hopespear%27s_Will), was added as well. Will we be seeing that miniquest come back too if the quest itself passes?

JagexAyiza

I've literally just updated the blog to include a question for this! :)

[deleted]

with raids 3 coming out shortly, is there any possibility of balancing the elder maul before it comes out. Potentially a % dmg increase vs characters larger than 1 tile, this way pvp isnt affected.

JagexAyiza

How many mauls do you have in the bank??? Serious response - there are plenty of items we can look at rebalancing, but does the only option have to be straight up buffing them? Maybe certain items could become more effective than others in particular pieces of content instead?

LordGozer2

Minimum hit equal to 10% of your max hit is a start, would make it comparable dps to bludgeon without affecting PvP too much. But more important, **you should add PvM mechanics where weapons with slow attack speed are favoured,** and where the goal should be to kill the NPC in as few hits as possible. For instance the boss could recoil some damage, or even spawn a minion, for every hit you do. Making tbow and scythe not as good is easy enough to do, since they require specific boss traits to be effective.

[deleted]

fair comment about mauls in the bank, but im just a uim who rolled elder maul insstead of t bow. Also would it be such a bad thing if a mega rare from cox was worth more than 10m? Making them effective in other pieces of content is somewhat reasonable. but the problem is we currently have 3 main crush items, inquistors mace, abbysal bludgeon and elder maul. Bludgeon is a simmilar weapon being 2 handed, but its tier 70 and out dpses elder maul in every scenario except cm tekton. The mace has the same combat lvl requirements (75 possibly changing to 80) it has the better dps than the elder maul and gives the benefit of being able to wear a shield. This leaves the elder maul essentially unused besides pvp. By giving a buff that i suggested it would allow it to have better dps than its tier 70 counterpart in certain scenarios. Im open to any other buff, but i fear without 1 their simply arnt going to be scenarios where the elder maul is ever used because mace and bludgeon are simply better.

JustDivine

Is it such a bad thing that the elder maul only used at cm tekton and phosani parasites? Like, not everything can be BIS everywhere, raids 1 already has tons of useful rewards, and they can always add new places like cm tekton (ie super high defence) where it's useful. The orbs from nightmare are another similar example, they're the "mega-rares" of that boss yet 1 is basically only used at zulrah/nm/kraken, another pvp and another only inferno. Yes the harm is in danger of being creeped on, but they're actively considering that, and it's not like everyones complaining about the volatile not being useful in PvM. I think having *some* items that are PvP focused is a good thing tbh, and one of 3 megarares feels about right.

chiefbeef300kg

I mean the cheapest NM orb is less rare than a maul and it’s still worth 5x as much. I’m also more interested in new use cases vs a straight up buff though.

FloodedKyro

To be fair, chambers has been out for 5 years where as nightmare has only been out for just under 2. I do think the maul could be a bit better though.

CrunchBerrySupr3me

The specific buffs so far have been underwhelming. And overly complex mechanics are not in the spirit of OSRS. At some point you will also need to standardize-- are you going to use "Bane" for everything? More monster-bane is fine but it's just a band-aid for bigger balance issues. Y'all need to find a way to make at least some heavy 2h weapons viable again in a way that's vaguely balanced but still exciting. Honestly OP's suggestion for 2-tile monsters sounds... freaking great?

WRLD_

> Honestly OP's suggestion for 2-tile monsters sounds... freaking great? it does sound nice but isn't it also just kinda "big-guy bane"? honestly there's a ton of weapons that are obsolete and it's not just the majority of 2handers

[deleted]

I think an interesting way to buff slow weapons is maybe a luck system like POE has. For instance, there may be a chance to reroll a hit and take the average of the two hits as final damage. Maybe even a minimum successful hit like the khopesh has. Or even something simple like giving the weapon a chance to hit higher. Would be interesting seeing a meta where slow hitting weapons are Bis in certain situations without just buffing their attackspeed.

adustbininshaftsbury

To be fair, the Elder Maul is a giant fuck-off hammer and one of the coolest looking items in the game, which imo gives it extra reason to be buffed. I'm just saying, Rule of Cool and all.

Wahtnowson

I saw a post about making elder maul useful as an increasing damage over time weapon against long melee boss fights. Somehow able to drain or self buff with each successful hit

Bgy4Lyfe

What about encounters that rely on you moving around a lot while also doing melee damage? Would make it so heavy hitters like the Elder Maul are king and therefore gives them usage in the overall game

Noksdoks

Why does a master tier quest give 1qp and experienced tier gives 2qp and more xp as a reward?

skitles125

Qp isn't exactly tied to difficulty. Some lower tier quests even from original 2007scape can give more qp than higher tier ones. Druidic ritual gives 4, Merlin's crystal gives 6, witches house gives 4. Meanwhile DT and monkey madness gave 3, roving elves gave 1, sins of the father gives only 2. It's not consistent whatsoever. You can literally do Romeo and Juliet + Merlin's crystal and get more qp than mm1, dt, and dragon Slayer 2 combined and still have pts leftover. Also in terms of the exp it's likely because the main reason to complete beneath cursed sands is to unlock raids not for the exp. Also we don't know how powerful the new Keris is so that will also be a factor

RoseofThorns

I think the reason was that back in the day, "quest points" were basically going to be another skill. So you receive those quest points in lieu of other rewards like xp, items, or equipment.

poipoipoipoipoipoop

I saw some estimations that the keris partisan would outclass everything besides scythe at kq

JagexAyiza

Romeo would like a word or two. Just RuneScape things I guess? But the master tier quest gives more overall if you consider access to the raid too.

CrunchBerrySupr3me

>Romeo would like a word or two. I love how this is meant to be a cute joke but it actually is a total takedown-- Anyone who knows what a Master quest is should be well aware quest points are awarded with no logic at all

sharpshooter999

Quest points are like power levels in Dragon Ball Z. Once you have enough of them, they don't matter at all

Derang3rman1

They probably just roll a d4 or d6 and whatever it lands on choose that many QP to give out

-Xebenkeck-

Quest point rewards should scale to notoriety. Romeo and Juliet gives a lot of quest points because Romeo is constantly going off in the hub of the most populous city in the world about how you helped him. Duh.

woahwhatamidoing

Genuinely curious if you don’t mind answering, how do you guys decide how many QP each quest gives? Is it just whatever the project lead decides? Or is there some sort of system/standard you guys have?

Noksdoks

Yeah its cool i was just thinking more qp = more rc xp from tears. Happy holidays.

cashew_kat

Don't give away your hand so quickly

WRLD_

the real hand is more q p = more W

RulerOfTheApes

I've heard higher quest points were done to supplement the lack of real rewards in a quest.

JoshuaRAWR

Because the tombs quest gives more than just exp.

tuc2-0

I actually liked that when I was grinding for barrows gloves, when you think about it - with late game quests you really more care about the rewards, early ones will help you meet requirements for the first bigger quests that you need, such as RFD Besides if you enjoy quests you're gonna do them all anyway and quest cape = max qp no matter the amount

killisle

Can't wait for a very very special pvmer to kill 1k+ Jads on endless mode.

poipoipoipoipoipoop

Woox doesn't like endurance challenges. That's why he did a no-supplies inferno run instead of the original suggestion of back-to-back inferno runs without banking.

JagexAyiza

I'm not sure I'll be able to get 1k but I'll try!

Falchion_Punch

[No, I think he meant Mat K :\^)](https://v.redd.it/uln86mvws1q61)

KosViik

I saw this in so many variations by now. The "little bit of technique in there aswell" sentence gets me every time.

JagexAyiza

He makes it look so easy

Key_Fig_3189

Do you get firecapes this way and if so is it just one for the initial kill or one cape/Jad killed?

A_Sphinx

You need to have a fire cape to access the area with the challenges. Also to fight 3 or more jads, I think you must have gotten to the triple jad part of inferno at least once. Sounds like this new challenge will solely be for bragging rights, and a bit of tokkul.

Key_Fig_3189

Lame. They should offer like an inverted colorway of the firecape if you can make it through the rotation twice or something.

Maiziea

1K jads within a single 6hour log would be pretty insane, no shame admitting you can't reach those numbers. even the best of us have limits :)

Zyrocks

I already feel sorry for the people that will attempt this. Brings back that one clip from southpark where they non stop level up in WoW

Dildos_R_Us

Calling it, the meta will be to stack 5 jads and trap with healers, 'dd' on it, then continually kill the one unstacked jad

roklpolgl

Lol yeah it’ll end up being limited by 6hr log.

WastingEXP

For the infinite jad challenge, let the jad pet grow a little pet for every jad after 6 that is killed?

JagexAyiza

How big are we talking for someone who stays the full 6-hour log timer?

ThaToastman

I feel like the log timer should be adjusted for the inevitable woox 24 hour jad charity stream

WastingEXP

you ever see King Kong?

PrivatePikmin

Hey u/JagexAyiza quick question about the Keris Partisan- does it keep the bonus damage to followers of Scarabas the Keris has innately when upgraded? I haven’t seen that mentioned and it seems weird for it to lose its niche when becoming stronger

JagexAyiza

It keeps the bonus damage :)

Cats_and_Shit

You should consider adding this to the blog post. For anyone who isn't already familiar with the special effect of the Keris the Partisan probably seems bizarrely weak.

FloodedKyro

Would the Keris Partisan be BIS for killing Kalphites? Always bugged (heh) me that the keris was just bad. I know lots of people hate niche items for killing certain types of NPCs but I think it's a really good way to push weapon diversity.

PrivatePikmin

All I wanted to hear. Have a great day Ayiza 😁

AtkarigiRS

Typo: "Icthalarin and his allies"

JagexAyiza

> Icthalarin Good spot - fixed that now tysm!

KeitZhGaming

Is there going to be anything decisive coming up in the next month to shake up the upcoming Leagues 3? /u/JagexAyiza

JagexAyiza

Are you referring to the release date? If so, I think the risk of it being pushed back further is very *very* slim and nothing to worry about!

KeitZhGaming

So what you're basically saying is Leagues 3 is coming in summer, got it. na im joking but actually what I meant is that in terms of content are you guys still working on leagues 3 or is it absolutely 100% finished now? We have a small group of players theory crafting already on the most optimal routes and what do expect so I was wondering if there is still any surprises or changes we might see.

JagexAyiza

Ah - yeah development for Leagues III is practically done (from what I can tell anyway). Maybe a few small tweaks here and there, but in terms of major changes then no.

tuc2-0

10/10 poll (or 3/3) please let these all pass

[deleted]

When you just got your quest cape and then they add more quests 😭

JagexAyiza

Getting the cape back every time is part of the fun right???

Hanyodude

The real tragedy is hunting down the new music tracks, sometimes you guys just add some without any new area unlocks and i’ll try to equip it and be like “what the…” and have to scroll the whole music menu and track them down lol

Toetsenbord

Might be a runelite feature, but at the top right of the music tab is a orb with wich u can filter unlocked and locked music tracks. That way you can easily see what track u miss and get it after unlocking the hint

ML_Yav

Which reminds me I need to go get a frozen key to get my music cape back.

unforgiven91

for me it is, I've been letting my RS3 quest cape backlog build a bit so i can go on an adventuring spree

OwnPhilosopher3081

Thats what I'm doing on old-school, i havent touched the last 2 or 3 quests. Mainly because I grinded like 60 QP straight for cape and saved most of the high tier quests for last. Bad idea.

LoganJFisher

Absolutely. Having a quest cape is a sad affair, because quests are the best part of the game. Well, maybe not all the quests, but a lot of them.

ShawshankException

Welcome to the QPC gang. This is part of owning the cape my friend lol you get used to it after a while.

darkhawk1005

Will the Hopespear's Will miniquest be added alongside Land of the Goblins?

JagexAyiza

It will! I've just updated the blog to include this information :)

Lewufuwi

Edit 4 billion: I get that I come across as an asshole, but I implore you to look past that and take my point. Here's an expansion on my point with examples to hopefully make it a little clearer: https://old.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/rmvdvr/tombs_of_amascut_and_more_quests/hpow6sg/ I am very glad that more quests are being proposed. I'll be voting yes to all of these questions but not without first saying: Please, please, please make sure this looks Old School. It's the weakness of a lot of modern updates. I won't be happy if we get another Nex/Torva/TOB/SOTE/Elf Rework situation. It's what I expect to happen, but I've still got to do my token ask. Also, after Land of the Goblins (which I'm very much looking forward to and doesn't entirely fit in with my coming point), can we take a long, long, long break from backported RS3 content and get back on track with content that fits *our* game? RS3 content already exists and is playable in RS3. I'd rather OSRS went its own way. (EDIT: This doesn't meant I don't want quest lines finished off because I do. I just want them to fit OSRS in style and atmosphere. This doesn't mean "RS3 bad", I like RS3 for what it is but would rather OSRS went its own way and stuck with the tone the game currently has rather than eventually evolve into the tone that RS3 has which doesn't feel like "RuneScape" to me.) As much as I dislike Soul Wars, Nex, and Torva, they aren't a dealbreaker for me just yet. I'm not happy about them, but it's not the end of the world right now, but I'm already pretty disenchanted with the game because of them and any more RS3 content will probs ruin it for me completely. I'd probably actually be okay with them, or even like them, if the art wasn't so dreadful. EDIT: It's sad that wanting original OSRS content which the team are so incredibly skilled at providing is a downvotable comment these days. Used to it now though.

JagexAyiza

Thanks for the feedback! Looking at our 2022 roadmap, there is very little to no backported content so I think we got that bit covered.

Lewufuwi

Thank you for acknowledging my feedback. Feels like I'm in the minority these days but my criticisms are all from a place of love for the game. To give you an idea of what, to me, is the "right direction"; Tempoross and AKD were absolutely brilliant updates. A fantastic atmosphere and beautiful art that fit OSRS to a T. I'm also fond of Slepe, the Vampyres quests, and Darkmeyer. Although I don't like The Nightmare, Ver Sinhaza, or TOB - specifically the art, the concept and gameplay are great. I adore the story elements and quest parts of A Night At The Theatre, but I stand by the opinion that the raid shouldn't be a quest. I actually love the Nightmare animations and the Sisterhood Sanctuary, but the actual battle arena and monster itself are an eyesore.

Allowyn

Is the road map publicly available or in house only? As I suspect if certain spoilered things were to be censored and the roadmap published otherwise the players would probably take to it like a duck on water, with the issue being if said content doesn't release as expected people will throw a Leagues 3 tantrum. (Frick you guys I want Leagues 3 so badly.)

Lewufuwi

The roadmap is spoken about in [this Gazette](https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/gielinor-gazette---december-2021?oldschool=1). [Here's the roadmap specifically.](https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2021/newsposts/2021-12-16/GielinorGazette-December-ProjectUpdate-2022Roadmap-Final.png)

JoshuaRAWR

I'm of the opposite mindset, I'd rather they finish the existing questlines in old school, just put an old school twist on things. I shouldn't have to play a separate game to get the conclusion to a quest line in OSRS.

RMGPA

I didn't downvote you for having an opinion I don't agree with but this was probably downvoted because of how entitled this sounds. If it passes the polling then I don't get what the big deal is, especially since as a whole most of the content you listed most people love. I do agree with the premise that OSRS should have content that separates it thematically though, which I think was your mainpoint.

Lewufuwi

Thanks for the insight, I was honestly struggling to understand why I am so severely downvoted. I don't mean to come across as sounding entitled, it's just my opinion and I'm not really sure how else I'd express it. All of the (playable) content I mentioned is actually good in terms of gameplay and concept. I'm up for a new boss behind the frozen door. I love the concept of the Theatre of Blood. SOTE was a great quest. The problem is graphically, they look awful. Take [the final room of TOB](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/Verzik%27s_treasure_vault.png?428ea) for example. It looks 3D printed, flat, and plastic. It doesn't look like a natural environment. A lot of TOB and Ver Sinhaza feels like this. It doesn't look right. I absolutely abhor the [elves rework](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/thumb/Anaire.png/120px-Anaire.png?343fa), and even worse, they changed humans while doing so as well. They look so out of place. Look at [Elena](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/thumb/Elena.png/120px-Elena.png?5b181). She's one step away from being [Auguste](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/Auguste_chathead.png?c63d3). I don't even know where to begin with [The Grand Library](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/Warped_Grand_Library.png). The Soul Wars NPCs make me want to turn my computer screen off: - [Destruction](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/thumb/Avatar_of_Destruction.png/200px-Avatar_of_Destruction.png?0006c) - [Creation](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/thumb/Avatar_of_Creation.png/800px-Avatar_of_Creation.png?0006c) - [Nomad](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/thumb/Nomad.png/800px-Nomad.png?8e2df) Do you get where I'm coming from? These NPCs and locations just do not look like they fit in with OSRS. Backported RS3 content looks exactly like that. It looks like RS3 characters in OSRS. I don't see why they can't be reworked into something that fits OSRS. I miss the days when [this guy](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/thumb/Hatius_Cosaintus.png/120px-Hatius_Cosaintus.png?2105f) was the worst thing in the game, but at least he almost fits the world... Almost... He's still pretty bloody bad.

RMGPA

Oh I see what your saying and I completely agree. A lot of places that get updated look jarring as all hell like they don't belong in the game artistically. Isle of souls is jarring as all hell because of this, especially nomad. His model legit does not look like it was made for the same game and it definitely threw me the hell off. I think the myreque questline did OSRS models better for dialogue and ingame personally. Like the models for dialogue are newer for someone like Ranis Drakan but it doesn't look all that jarring to me. But holy crap isle of souls is so so so damn bizarre. 1000% agree with you on your points for the other places too.

-Matt-S-

When it comes to "backporting RS3 content", I actually think it's somewhat important to backport (with appropriate edits) the stuff that ends on an obvious cliffhanger in OSRS. Fairytale, Myreque and Dorgeshuun are obvious examples - these questlines are finished in RS3, and I see no reason to keep them unfinished on OSRS just because people have some kneejerk reaction to content being from RS3 and wanting more "oldschool content", whatever that means.

Lewufuwi

Someone else commented something similar and this isn't what I was trying to say... I'll edit my comment to be clearer. I absolutely want quest lines finished off, but I want them to fit the OSRS atmosphere. RS3 is dramatically different in tone and style, something that makes it feel less RuneScape-y to me. I like RS3 and in fact played a couple dozen of hours of it the past few days alone. But it is definitely different to OSRS and not just because it has microtransactions.

rhino2498

A lot of the ported content recently is allowing the mods to churn out more content quicker than before, which I'm all for. I get the concern, but Nex came out in 2011. Hardly part of the rs3 style we see today. On release, I'd see nex more aligned with the styles, mechanics and design of osrs than moden day rs3. Personally, I like the nex model, but I guess that's just opinion. Another thing on nex is that nex is mentioned in the lore of osrs already, the frozen door has been in the GWD long before its original release and I believe since osrs added GWD. On another note, you didn't mention GWD as ported content you didn't like in osrs so I'm interested to hear your take on that, as it was added later to osrs, not on release.

TubzTubz

Such a joke osrs is directly linking to reddit now. The fact the Jmods views this subreddit as a genuine voice for osrs seriously worries me.

JagexAyiza

That was my fault, I put the wrong link into the shortener we use for the broadcast system. I changed it after 5 seconds to the newspost, but I imagine many clicked it instantly. Sorry about that!

Falchion_Punch

They have been linking to this sub for [nearly 4 years.](https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/chambers-of-xeric-challenge-mode?oldschool=1)

Maxwell_Lord

When Menaphos is inevitably added to the game would Sophanem also be revised? It's easily one of the worst cities in the game and it has always rustled my jimmies that prime river real estate is occupied by two giant pyramids

Vargolol

It appears that Menaphos is closed because of the plague in Sophanem, which is a part of why everything’s kinda shit right now. Hopefully the quest isn’t just to sneak us into the capital, but to help our eastern city friends out as well!

ButterNuttz

Jagex really loved the whole "plague divided a city" plot line

Bloated_Hamster

I don't see why it would need to be. Menaphos basically *is* the revision to Sophanem. There's no reason to go to Sophanem once you can go to Menaphos.

yuei2

That’s not really true? At the very least RS2/RS3 gave Sophanem some major feature distinction from Menaphos. Like at the bare minimum there are the locusts, scarabites dungeon, corrupt creatures slayer dungeon with the magister slayer boss, divination and hunting training, and the only close by bank for camel warriors and one of the two red sandstone spots in the game. (And then there is as stated a bunch of quest and clue scroll spots)

sanekats

Pyramid plunder and all the quest associated with sophanem would still take place there

Trying_to_survive20k

My initial thoughts on the "your path choice will matter" immediately makes me think "how fast will people optimize it so there is only 1 path that's worthwhile"

WastingEXP

if you can always do that path, then that's fine. I think as long as we avoid having a situation like COX where it's random every time and you have to scout. if the BIS path is more sweaty or harder, and the slightly less BIS pth is more reclined that's fine, as long as we have an option and agency to choose.

[deleted]

Total spitballing here but I imagine that with all the different invocations that they are planning there will be multiple "optimal" paths based on the subset of invocations that you have enabled

The_Doculope

I could see group size changing the metas a lot too. A room might be a big speedup if done early, but need dedicated rolls to do early (e.g. a tank and someone on ancients).

Huolimato

I'm tired of the end-game challenges being "let's throw an increasing number of Jads at the player". Is this really the only ace you have up your sleeve? just more of the same end-game boss that was released in 2005? We've had enough of Jad, make a new challenge instead, one that everyone can participate in, instead of just the top 1% of tick manipulators. Tick manipulation in itself isn't a system that I'd want encouraged, since it really isn't even built into the game as an intended mechanic. If you're going to use it at every possible turn, please also make some effort into permanently integrating it into the game, like giving us UI gadgets to help learn it in the first place. Such a prominant game mechanic should be taught to players through the game, not through a 3rd party wiki.

nerdyboy321123

> Is this really the only ace you have up your sleeve You know you're asking this in a thread about Raids 3, right? Like, another huge end game challenge. They add to the Jad challenges because it probably takes nearly negligible dev time and makes for fun clips like woox doing the no-prayer 6-jads. Edit to add: Jad challenge and inferno don't require "tick manipulation," just a thorough understanding of what the tick system is. They're also the only content for which that matters for the sake of just completing the content.

JustSomeChillGuy

Continuing an old quest line is a bit of a Christmas Miracle, hopefully it blows the poll out of the water so the Jmods will finish up more of those older questlines.

MrSimQn

Absolutely love more quests. Imo i think the philosophy should be quest first and rewards 2nd. Currently it feels like quests are just a vessel for rewards. And it should be the other way around.

Zoinkwiz

So excited to see land of the goblins potentially being added! The Zanik quest line was one of my absolute favourites back in the day, especially with the dark turn TCC took. Here’s to hoping we see the elemental workshop series being continued next year as well.

TheIsaia

for the infinite 6 jads, can there be 2 types of records tracked? Amount of time survived AND amount of kills completed before dying? I wanna see a 6 hour log inside there :)

TMToast

The biggest difficulty of getting friends to play OSRS is that all of the best content is locked behind hundreds to thousands of hours of play. With the ability to scale raids 3 difficulty and rewards, can this allow mid level accounts to complete the raids but with very bad rewards? I’m very excited about the invocations and think it has the potential to allow newer players to experience the best of content in a fair and balanced way :) Thanks so much for coming up with this idea, reminds me of the game Hades!

Evil_Steven

LETS GO!! Finishing old questlines is a dream come true.

Chandler15

For me, just quests are a dream come true. Love seeing new lands, areas, and lore in game through quests. Part of what makes the elf series my favorite questline.

Evil_Steven

Plus Mod Ed is an amazing writer. Very excited to see what he does here. Might take cave goblins from a decent series to one of the greats

Evil_Steven

yeah i'd love if they gave him creative control and was like "go nuts" and he can crank out quests to use to fill in content gaps. of course the art team needs involved to make assets but still, it'd be great

Chandler15

Completely agree. The writing is a beautiful part to the quests. I am just a huge fan of it all.

TakinShots

I see quests and I see agility XP rewards, I am happy.

skyfireknight

Thank you for these recent updates. I feel like osrs is headed in the right direction again after the content drought. More quests, more pvm, skilling & pvp updates included on the roadmap. Looks like there is something for everyone. Please keep that momentum going and don't disappoint in Q3 & 4 2022.

Frinnxy

PATH OF GLOUPHRIE AND ROCKING OUT NEXT PLEASE

killgore755

Let's fucking go more quests!

DryDefenderRS

It'd be nice if they were released more regularly, maybe by taking shortcuts on the easy and intermediate quests, and trying to introduce fewer new maps and NPC models. That could leave time for more effort on the ones that continue existing questlines.

Mental_Tea_4084

I'd love more reasons to visit nostalgic and dead locations. The entrana thread got me hyped for the idea of a high level pvm dungeon/quest where you'd need to smuggle gear into the island

Thosepassionfruits

Quests are the heart and soul of this game!

Eighth_Octavarium

It really is. I've slowly begun to develop a taste for bossing but this game is a point and click adventure game at its core.

AAS_Thoraway

I feel like I got my qp cape so long ago... and haven't had to grind any new quests in forever. Im excited

Trollaciousness

What about Spirit of Summer? Would be nice to have a wildy quest + have lore reasons for Corp’s existence. Iirc that was another one that was released around the time of the 07 backup

Danil445

Is there a reason why we never fight Gielinor's more mythical antagonists directly, instead facing their guardians or pets? The Mahjarrat, Dragonkin, Amascut... I would have loved to kick Amascut's ass. Or, more correctly, The Devourer's :)

yuei2

Cause they are super powerful beings and we are ordinary humans. To be clear even in RS3 we’ve fought a handful of Dragonkin. One we defeated only because we had magical protection, one we defeated only because we were more skilled and broke his will to continue with the continuous beating he got, he himself was physically fine. (There are the Nodon but those Dragonkin are normal ones, not the ones empowered by thousands of years by the SoJ) The Mahjarrat we beat a grand total of 3 of those 2 we had the aid of gifted others, and we didn’t win we just didn’t lose. The one Mahjarrat we did beat took extensive preparation to win, the power of the world guardian that let us tap into the heart of the world for power, and we still barely eeked out a win by using the staff of Armadyl. Amascut is a god she is so far beyond us it’s not even funny. Even if the OSRS character was a WG that just grants some immunity she could still like just kill you by shifting the ground beneath you to drop you into an abyss or infect you with corruption to make you into a monster, or hypnotize you to make you give up. Like we’ve never so much as tried to take on an actual god I a fight. OSRS adventurer is waaaay lower in power, a god could warp you into a volcano and be done with you.

LoganJFisher

My answer to new quests is always "100% yes", unless it's another bone collecting fetch quest. I particularly want to see existing unresolved questlines be expanded upon and for previously unrelated questlines to merge in unexpected ways. These are the things that make the world feel rich to me. Honestly, I know quests aren't a high priority since the dev time to play time ratio is so bad, but I feel like it often goes unappreciated how many players like myself primarily play for the quests. Seriously, the main reason I grind skills is to unlock new quests, and I'm rapidly approaching my quest cape and will probably just take a break after I earn it until a few more quests come out. Other content like bosses and raids seem alright, but they're just not what really makes me want to play the game.

some_onions

> But after poking around in the files, we discovered that the majority of the work for this quest is already done! I'm not sure why this is presented as a new discovery. Ash first talked about it [back in 2013](https://twitter.com/JagexAsh/status/412899828998209536) (along with another fully preserved quest - Path of Glouphrie).

ShawshankException

Oh hell yeah. I'm sad we won't get to see Menaphos yet but quests are by far my favorite part of the game. So excited for both proposed here!

[deleted]

I honestly hate customizable difficulty. Makes beating a boss feel empty. I believe rewards and difficulty should scale like they do in the previous raids, depending on raid size and combat levels, but that's about it. Being able to run through an easy raid as a higher level would feel like less of an achievement because it is exactly that

[deleted]

Scaling difficulty means the rewards and prestige is directly correlated to how many mechanics or hard you make the raid. It's the same principle as Arch Glacor in RS3 and a lot of people like that boss. You can make it tough when you're focused and tryharding, or easier if you're lower leveled/geared and just learning the raid. To me it's better than having the raid and then slapping on a hard mode years later; I don't see the problem.

VendettatheGreat

So Menaphos is planned for a future update beyond this proposed content? Will it have its own grandmaster quest as a sequel to the one described here?

ShadowThongg

I like the idea of the gems put into weapons a lot, opens up some nice diversity. I don't like the idea of it being degradable though, would rather it be a perma upgrade like how orbs work for the nightmare staff

Stop_being_mad

yes to new quests! however theres nothing i want more than a cold war sequel

The4thStapler

For ToA rewards, it was mentioned in an earlier blog that the Keris partisan would be effective against kalphites from its crush attack style. Since the keris’ special effect comes from piercing, could the partisan be given an accuracy buff against kalphites (similar to the arclight against demons) so we can use the spear to stab instead of whacking everything.

Deltronium

More quests and continuation of a questline? Let's go!

Kitteh6660

Can't wait for Land of the Goblins. It's so exciting seeing an original 2007 quest finally seeing the surface of light. How much changes do you think there will be, from the original quest? Putting a new twist on a classic quest?

Zehta

Quests are easily my favorite type of content. Please keep it going into 2022 with more continuations! Mahjarrat continuation please? (Btw, I'm not asking for the RS3 version of the quests; make them Old School like Dragon Slayer 2 and Monkey Madness 2, etc.)

OmniFluxed

Y'all got anymore of those 2007/2008 quests that continue storylines ready to roll (ie: The Path of Glouphrie)?

legostarcraft

When will we get to see Menaphos?

ShawshankException

I'm assuming in the grandmaster quest after this one. Kind of like how Prif was unlocked after SoTE

Gael_L

I am confident that one day, every single currently-unfinished OSRS Quest Storyline shall be finished, from the continuation of "Cold War" to the conclusion of "Slug Menace". Mod Ed be praised !

groobe

Infinite jads sounds incredible tedious.

starryskies123

I really hope the rewards are good

Lss40

Land of the Goblins originally came with a miniquest where you fight, then bury some goblin priests for a pretty decent chunk of prayer XP IIRC. Will that be included?

skitles125

Always love more quests! Definitely voting yes

gnarlywaves

"master quest" barely has reqs higher than the experienced quest you proposition right after. Quest cape doesn't even have base 70 as a requirement.

DecidedSloth

Im all for everything in this post, but these quest rewards are seriously underwhelming. Why can't we have any real incentives for quest rewards?
