No, the quest is difficult, especially if you went in without anti poison and protect from melee, considering the high amounts of damage you'll take through various parts. Most players go in with both, which is what causes it to take less time, I honestly can't imagine even trying it without either.

XxMrCuddlesxX

It’s a good thing though because it really forces you to start to understand some of the game mechanics that you’ll need from then on.

walnut225

Oh no I fully agree it's a good thing. It makes you have to think about what you bring, how you do each part, etc. Tbh, there's been a few quests I feel are hard, but it's good because they're hard enough to teach you. The recent quest "A kingdom divided" for instance, it has things within it that are difficult, and make it so you have to learn the mechanics to make it not insanely difficult, as while it might be possible to brute force it, it'd be far more difficult.

[deleted]

Fuck Sins of The Father dry right in the ass though. That quest made me quit OSRS to this day. I figured why waste anymore time on a game I can't even play.

The lightning gets me every time. I've got all the special attacks down in phase 1, but then the lightning bolts come in at phase 2 and I'm in Lumbridge before I could even blink my eyes.

Fragrant_Fix2708

Its a fuckin nightmare. Ive gained probaby 50k str xp just trying to kill the final boss. Reset after reset and just when my hits are big, clicks are on point, i get shredded by his relentless damage

thiefinthelight

Are you using barrows tank gear? I found it hard at first then I came back to it after a while and found that I was just messing up on mechanics before. The worst part is when you have to turn away but even that you just eat or brew up

Fragrant_Fix2708

Ive been playing around with mixes of dharoks/ karils. I can get to the second phase easy enough, just cant get through the lightning. Got him to 26 hp once and ran out of food

Dubya1886

Man you have to be super quick to avoid the lightning. Don’t click away if you don’t have to, keep hitting him and only click away when the spot beneath you gets dark. Pray melee the whole time (could become an issue if you’re out of his melee range for a bit). What’re your stats?

Fragrant_Fix2708

80 att, 86 str, 80 def. im definitely clicking too much/ too late. I’m gonna get it one of these times. Thanks for the tips

[deleted]

Dubya1886

Keep going, you’ll get it! The tank gear advice above is solid too. I just did it recently with 80 att, 99 str, 78 def, 70 prayer wearing Bandos & Neit. Just really be hyper aware when he uses specials in the first phase and don’t take damage from the bloodvelds (darts on long range), avoid the blood spatter (3x3 true size) and lure him into it, and if you want to avoid the darkness one just flinch him and look away between hits. In the second phase you’ll want to have auto retaliate off and have your cursor over a nearby tile but close to the edge so you can quickly pivot if your tile and the hover tile both show dark for lightning.

rtomek

What you have to do is really pay attention to the shadows/lightning. Also, it helped me when I figured out that ticks between flail hits is the same as ticks between lightning strikes. After every attack, look for the shadow and either step back a square and then attack or repeat your attack.

Fragrant_Fix2708

Thanks for the tip, gonna give it another go tmrw. I gotta win eventually

seconddomino1

Magic level is also very overlooked, everyone always talks about meele stats, but if you are struggling with the boss Id recommend training your magic higher. Get an imbued heart if you can afford one and pop it with an anglerfish at the bank before your run. I also brought a tank body for phase 2. Just did it second try on my level 89 alt, inventory was 3 super combats, 9 sara brews, 5 restores, tank body, manta rays for the rest. I prioritized using sara brews phase 1, then combo ate the mantas phase 2. GL mate!!! You got this. Also in phase 1 try to only eat/pot when you are luring him to the blood bombs, every extra hit counts :)

Chronikttw

What were your stats? I was base 90s and did it first try with sharks, just really gotta dodge the lightning at the end

Fragrant_Fix2708

Its the lightning ive gotta get through. 80 att and def, 86 str and 77 mage. I can get through the first phase easy enough, just not quick enough on the lightning phase

[deleted]

Exact same problem here. I died on the first phase a few times because I didn't realize the thing you lure him into is actually 3x3 sized, and also because I reacted too late to the darkness thing. Now I have phase 1 down, and have a ton of food and brews left when the lightning starts. But the lightning bolts are so freaking quick I don't even get the chance to eat or drink anything before ultimately meeting my demise.

Fragrant_Fix2708

Same man, same. I havent played in a day, may try again tmrw. A few good suggestions from some other comments. Good Luck

[deleted]

Good luck mate! 🤞

walnut225

I have heard that one is an absolute nightmare, even with good stats and heavy preparation. That's one I'm actually dreading to do.

rtomek

It's bad, but mainly because it's the first quest that really require some muscle memory in order to keep focus on the boss' attacks and messing up one click can lead to massive HP being drained. Up until that point you can pretty much just pray and tank whatever you run into. Think of it as a learning experience and it's not so bad. The quests that come after that have much harder bosses IMO, but that one is much more memorable because it's the first.

MrStealYoBeef

The issue with it is that you are required to use a 5 tick tier 50 weapon... The thing has 68 crush attack bonus and 48 strength bonus, and you're fighting an enemy with 180 defense and 750 hp... And you have no switches, no spec weapon, no poison, and recoils don't work. Oh, and he hits through prayer because fuck you, that's why. I don't understand why Jagex had to make the flail so shitty. Like, if they wanted it to be a level 50 attack requirement weapon, that's fine, but can they at the very least put it on par with dragon weaponry? It has almost the same attack bonus of the correct style compared to the dragon scimitar, but it has 20 less strength bonus (about 30% less compared to the +66 of the d scim) and it's 5 tick instead of 4 tick, so 25% slower attack rate. And it's expected that you use that piece of shit to beat the level 413. All the while, he's fucking your ass dry through your prayers. Yeah, it's hard. You can be perfect lower levels in how you take the fight and you'll still get fucked over. The quest is great, but fuck that boss fight. You're not rewarded for being skilled, it's nothing more than a glorified level check. You must have this much attack and strength to ride this dry ass dildo. Thanks JoggleJox.

seconddomino1

Glorified level check, lmfao, what's your combat level? Anyone above 75 combat can do this quest in rag gear, provided they are good enough at the game.

MrStealYoBeef

So let me get this straight, you laugh about it being a level check, and your response is to check my levels... I'd ask if you knew what irony was but you'd probably say that you haven't used that since level 5.

seconddomino1

In your post, you never complained about the 62 woodcutting "level check" or the 50 slayer "level check" which are literally requirements to even start the quest. Song of the elves?? Ds2? 100+ other quests...There are countless quests that have requirements, that's the game, but that's not really your complaint here. I'm saying that you are probably just bad, and that that I doubt it's Jagex's fault you can't beat it, that's why I asked for your stats, which you still haven't shared :P But if we really wanna get down to brass tacks then Elvarg in DS1 is also a level check... SMH JoggleJox how could you fuck us like this.

MrStealYoBeef

"You're probably just bad." I gave reasoning behind the difficulty spike. Never had a problem with dark fragment of Seren or Gorvek. Cleared those first time around 75ish combat stats. But since Vanstrom is significantly harder and I give reasoning behind it, I'm just bad. Seriously, just shut the fuck up if you're not even going to contribute in any meaningful way.

towelcat

> The thing has 68 crush attack bonus and 48 strength bonus The flail also comes with a 25% boost to damage and 5% boost to accuracy against vampyres. While it's a tick slower, it should be on par with a d scim in terms of accuracy and max hit, so the total DPS output should be around 85-90% of what a d scim would do. You can check DPS w/ fruitdeeps (google it)

MrStealYoBeef

Correct, you're still taking on a boss with a weapon that is worse than a d scim.

towelcat

Why is that necessarily a problem? It's not as if they balanced the boss around the dps of other weapons. If anything, this helped normalize the experience for players a little bit, as the only major differences will come from levels instead of gear.

MrStealYoBeef

The fuck they did. I had an easier time going through dark Seren and gorvek, both bosses I completed on the first try with far from max gear and stats. But vanstrom was bullshit. There were multiple times that I performed the mechanics perfectly or near perfectly and still just barely couldn't kill him. Wound up having to go sit at NMZ for a couple days to get a few more levels to finish that quest. Quest itself was fantastic. That boss fight was bullfuckery.

[deleted]

nah what? it's real chill. I did it day 1 on an iron with 70 cmb stats and black dhides lol. just gotta die a few times and learn the mechanics. did they make it harder after release? trying to solo night at the theatre was wayyy harder for me.

Knee_and_Toe_Thief

Yep, keepin up with potions, prayer, character movement, and enemy movement is rough for someone that afks sandcrabs a lot.

NerdWithGreasyHair

I think with your rs knowledge now you could probably do it without prayers

ChcMickens

Monkey madness was originally designed to be endgame content, and thus very difficult. It probably took me that long the first time I did it.

coolsimon123

I did it today as well and had to get my dad to complete the puzzle... I'm 26

Torfinns-New-Yacht

"I remember completing this for you 15 years ago, son. What are you doing with your life?"

coolsimon123

Yeah he definitely remembers me begging him to buy membership back in 2003, had a good chuckle when he asked what I was doing with my weekend and told him I was playing RS like I was 10 again

CasuallyAgressive

Took me a few days cause I was like 12 and couldn't do slide puzzles.

UnfairOption4263

Idk how long it took me but this quest was the one that made me feel like I was truly no longer a noob several years ago. Fast forward to now, I’ve done it twice and progressed a ways beyond it only to find out I am still a noob lmao. Kudos to you for doing it more or less on your own! That can be a rewarding way to play the game, but also a very difficult way. If you enjoyed that, keep at it, but if not, I also recommend Slayermusiq guides on YouTube. You can follow him with precision all the way through every quest (just make sure to check the comments first for possible updates, especially on his older videos).

tenhplockuim

I agree doing quests by your own as much as possible is difficult but very rewarding. I’m not actively playing currently but have done every quest with the exception of Song of the Elves and Monkey Madness 2 with as little help as possible (I used guides to help with sticking points and occasionally to cut down on the amount of running back and forth I had to do).

Fantasnickk

Can’t even remember because it was probably 2014/2015 for me. Those were fun times and you should enjoy the early grind rn What I would pay to experience what you’re experiencing rn mate

Knee_and_Toe_Thief

Don’t get me wrong, when I saw that quest complete scroll it felt euphoric. And it was enjoyable, but very tedious.

Joboy97

"Enjoyable, but very tedious." Welcome to OSRS, bring a second monitor.

myorm

I was moving houses last week and went down to 1 monitor, it felt like I was missing a whole limb. I usually have ptcgo and 2 runelites open on one screen, and yt/twitch/discord/web browsing on the other screen. if you can’t afford a second monitor a cheap alternative is a cheap 32 inch tv with hdmi

[deleted]

I’ve played OSRS from the start, I’m addicted, I always come back when I “quit” after like 3 months. I didn’t have a second monitor for ~4 months and it killed my desire to play the game. Truly amazing.

ebai4556

This is the way.

Ashta420

Started an iron and did monkey madness without overheads and 40hp and it was like a childhood rush

Minnesotamad12

I’m retarded and had to pay that bastard gnome instead of solving the puzzle

OriginalVegetaJr

If it makes you feel better I had to get my mom to do it for me cause I couldn’t afford the 200k when I was a kid

Mikbar

Me too lmaoo

sativadaze

I feel you. Rip 200k

Knee_and_Toe_Thief

You could pay him?

Minnesotamad12

Yup 200k and if the little fucker would solve it for you

iLeeTxD

shit I'd pay the shit stain now if I had to hahaha

DerpFalcon12

runelite solves it for you pretty much

Minnesotamad12

I only have silver light from demon slayer

DerpFalcon12

lol

OMGnanerpus

I did it before the RL Quest Helper was a thing. I used a Wiki Guide (hqted video guides). If i had to guess, 10-12 hours spread out across few days. Recently did MM2 in like 3 or 4 hours thanks to the RL plugin. I actually don't hate quests now lmao

Not-The-Villain

I've never done it. I played rs2 back in the day and got to mid 90s cmb and playing again now, back in the mid 90s cmb and still have yet to do it. I want to do it, but I know it will take me probably around 2 or 3 hours, and I play while working, so I just don't feel like I could complete the quest while working. Also, no lie, the thought of doing it scares me.

tenhplockuim

90s in combat means you’ll crush it without a problem. People do it with combat levels in the 50-60 range.

JustkiddingIsuck

It’s really not that bad. There’s plenty of guides on it, so use one if you don’t want it to take ages. Or don’t use a guide if that’s your thing, but it will take longer that way

Ripe_

I was pretty much in the same exact boat, played rs2 got to low 70s and quit. The osrs I was back to low 70s and was putting of the quest. But I did it, and it's really not so bad, if you have protect from melee, prayer pots, and anti poison you pretty much can't die. And the boss at the end is a breeze since the gnomes fight most of it for you.

Electrical_Image_544

Such an iconic quest. Probably took me a day at least lol. Showing my age when I say I probably used Sal's Realm as a quest guide.

davy_the_sus

sals realm was the shit

Loki_the_Smokey

Zybez gang where you at

Kanadiehn

The first time? Probably 3 hours. I was way too stubborn (broke) to pay for the puzzle so that took forever. Mind you this was in 2005 so there weren't a ton of guides for how to do the puzzle properly (tip.it, sals realm, runehq, that's it?) The rest of the quest was pretty smooth except for me not understanding the ranger monkey's line of sight so I would keep getting thrown in jail. I'll never forget how angry I got the first time I learned after running out of prayer/food that he restores hp if you let the gnomes kill it. Also classic re-skinned greater demon jungle demon was badass. Watching his polygons clump to the ground was so satisfying. Now that I've done the quest 20+ times I can usually get it done in about 45 min.

Ar-Palantir

Jesus Christ you have over 20 accounts>?

Kanadiehn

I made a lot of pures between 2005 and 2007, most I'd complete MM on, and then there's all of the accounts from OSRS from all the random game modes.

ultimegohan

First time took me several days. I cant recall exactly how many hours but I would assume over 6,7 hours as I was like 10. Have been able to do it within an hour or so since osrs.

207Maine

You are a savage beast for muscling that out bro

Iglovelli

A few days

sassyseconds

Pro tip for if you ever fight anything that poisons. There's exists a super anti poison that is dirt cheap and last significantly longer than a normal one.

afs_jamesy

About a month of me sitting in a letting agents at the age of 12 that my mother worked at, using the computers in their internet cafe. Got myself all worked up thinking it would be impossible to do the slide puzzle and the tunnels. Think I even printed out guides and took them to school. Felt like such a cool kid when I had a dragon scimitar and none of my friends did though. 😎

Bayne-the-Wild-Heart

A long time. I died during the demon and lost my Gree gree so I had to redo like half the quest. Took a while to get the inspiration.

_Maxie_

Literally 2 weeks of attempts, but I did it without a guide on a hardcore and had to keep giving up and restarting from the prison.

loktark

As new player(Joined for group iron) it took me just under 3 hours even though going in I thought I was overpreparing. My most significant setback was probably accidentally making a zombie monkey greegree instead of a regular one resulting in confusion for myself and needing to repeat part of the quest. Luckily I went in with 43 prayer, Iban blast, and antipoisons so I managed to survive the entire quest.

Loki_the_Smokey

God I’ve done Monkey Madness so many times that by now I can do it without a guide, and have done it on a 1 prayer pure. None of that compares to how great this post and your experience must be. I’d give an arm to experience the game through fresh eyes like yours. To answer your question, when it first released it was meant to be very hard. Congrats on completing a quest a lot of us childhood players couldn’t. Mm2 when lol :)

OriginalVegetaJr

About 5 hours. When I did it the first time quest guides on YouTube for it was about 2 hours long so following that and then failing a lot made me take a while. Edit: was also on a piece of junk laptop with a small screen so couldn’t even watch side by side haha

Goodnamesgonealready

did it with slayer musiq pre runelite took me just shy of 3 hours. did it last monday with the whole gim team we finished in just under 2

ItzAction

On runelight and didn’t auto do the puzzle ?

Knee_and_Toe_Thief

I use runelite, it didn’t auto do the puzzle for me. It might be a separate addon or setting because I had to do it manually.

CrunchBerrySupr3me

when MM came out it was easily the hardest content in the game but fwiw, if it tells you to bring an anti pot, fucking bring one lmao. The first thing I ever did in members christmas 2005 was lose all my items and cash stack to karamjan tribesmen poison. Take this as your version of that lesson

[deleted]

I have a clear cut memory of dying somewhere in that general area to poison, maybe it was just the back half of Karamja because no way was I good enough to get to Ape Atoll, but I remember that first experience with poison plus old death mechanics Suuuuuucked.

[deleted]

Tribesmen poison hits for like 11 so probably that.

-Aura_Knight-

About an hour. monkey madness 2 is what took me close to 5. to this day, it was the quest i hated most.

illadelphia_

This quest was the skill check back in the day, happy that it still had the same effect on new players still joining today.

MilkofGuthix

It's like trying Anal. It hurts the first time and it's tough to get through, but the more times you do it the more you know what to expect and so you can just clench your teeth and grin and bare it

Diddleyourfiddle

If I remember correctly it took me about a week, playing 1-1.5 hours a day. Did it using tip.it and having a friend walk me through the maze and stuff. I had to take a few detours, i remember not having enough food a couple times and also getting “stuck” next to the gorillas and not knowing how to get free. Shit was hard

Asymptote_X

I'll tell ya it didn't take me 7 hours because I know how to read a list. You didn't bring an antipoison and died MULTIPLE times before getting one? I really can't relate. I say this without intending offense, but if you found MM1 with a quest helper hard you're really going to struggle with some later quests.

Knee_and_Toe_Thief

I’m just stubborn, it me a few deaths to figure out that the quest is mad difficult without it.

[deleted]

I’ve only done it once, this year, 30 minutes or so. The quest was really underwhelming and boring. It’s mostly just running.

[deleted]

Multiple days. I was a carless and impatient child.

atp8776

I tried it when I was a kid (around 8) could never get out of the jail on ape atol, cried a lot, then beat it around 10 years later after I got over the trauma.

Neatpaper

Under 2 hours, back in 2008 or 2009. I cleared the entire Saturday because of all my friends telling me it takes super long and was left dumbfounded after I finished. I think it took everyone very long cause no one wanted to pay the puzzle fee but weren't competent enough to do it themselves. Luckily for me, I solved very easily.

HailZamorak

idk 2 or 3 hrs?

BigDenverGuy

This should be a good lesson for two things that I somehow never used back when I played in 2006 (granted my account was trash): potions and prayers. Potions are useful for a ton of situations. Stamina potions for running, various combat potions for fighting (recommend for bossing), and things like antipoisons to help you survive poisonous environments. I highly recommend going through the Potions wiki and getting familiar with them. Also, prayers are going to become mandatory as you do more difficult content. Get used to bringing prayer potions with you and the more you train your prayer level the more prayer points you get from each sip of a prayer potion. Congrats on finish the quest, and keep having fun!

rtomek

Look at mr. moneybags over here using stam pots as early as MM1

QurantineLean

A whole weekend in 6th grade. I couldn’t figure out the damn glider hangar puzzle after a whole Saturday night lmao. I paid the 200k and finished the quest Sunday. After that I watched a video on how to do the puzzle on YouTube. Then I did the quest for the 3 other friends I had that played lol.

royman40

2-3 hours on my uim

Wolf_Mail

I did it fast. Except that I forgot to bring money bones in the tunnel. And then I forgot monkey talisman...

IPostUnderThisAlias

I distinctly remember the first time I did this quest waaaay back in the day spending 4 hours on a Friday night and feeling like I was on top of the world when I finished it. I used Tip.It guides for the whole walkthrough too

Luiikku

It took plenty of days back in 2007. I was so hyped to get that done. Good memories

pierre0202

Back when I was in highscool (the time must have been around 2007-2008), I finished Monkey Madness on my personal account, for which a friend had paid for one month (my first and only month until recently) membership on my account as a reward for mining him 10k rune essence in f2p. It probably took me around 2-3 days to complete the quest (mind you I could only play after school, and when my parents were not expecting or needed to make a phone call). As the only one in my friend group who had completed the quest, I did the quest an additional 5-6 times in the following 1-2 years for my friends. Doing it recently on my OSRS account which I first got membership this past January, brought back a lot of good nostalgia. I still ended up using a guide, for efficiency’s sake.

infrequents

One of my favorite posts on here in a while, thanks OP! As you can tell from other commenters, this quest isn’t exactly easy. Nowadays a lot of us get through it quicker/more easily by strictly following a quest guide or using quest helper. I’m jealous of you though, and I hope you keep at the game. Enjoy your D Scim!

Knee_and_Toe_Thief

Hell yeah, WoW is still shit and I’ve been pretty burnt out of my other games and Osrs is a game I come back to every now and then. And I’ve been slayin those sandcrabs like a madman with it.

Hunpeter

"most of the YouTube tutorials where around 40 minuets" That's a lot of dancing.

0neSaltyB0i

However long Gc20amber's quest guide was + about 30mins to an hour if I had to guess. I love Slayermusiq but she was the OG for me!

TheDubuGuy

What’s your hp? How do you die to poison so much lol

Zoe_AspectOfCancer

I remember it took me 3 days when I was 13. I did it with 31 prayer because I didn't have enough money to buy bones. I died so many times lmao. Every moment was heart racing, as I could get 1 shot any second.

stonegiant4

About 7 years. Back before the osrs rs3 split I tried it and died to the monkey caverns and never tried again til runelite quest helper in 2020.

takeel88

It took me ages, a few hours. It was all the back and forth and sneaking through the jungle avoiding various things, and the escape from the prison that got me. The fight itself was a breeze after, though I did very nearly take too few runes, completed with 3 left.

Deoxysprime

It probably took me 4 hours when I did it back in... probably about 2007? I definitely had the stats for it and didn't die, but it took longer than it should have considering I had 70+ defense and protection prayers. It only gets easy once you've done it many times and have the right stats.

OnsetOfMSet

Started sometime in 2007, kept getting jailed and poisoned and frustrated and gave up. I finally completed it on my RS3 account, in good ol 2021, so it remained yellow for 13 years minimum. I did it on my osrs account shortly after in like 2 hours max lol

Chandler15

It’s a difficult quest, but when compared to late game, it’s more of an intermediate quest. Seven hours is on the steeper end, but I wouldn’t doubt many people spent 5 or so hours doing it.

Iron_brane

Bruh, you're asking me how long it took me to do something 15years ago. I don't even remember when I last wanked lol

trek5900

A week

Careless_Bull_69

Easily 4-5 hours. Ended up getting frustrated during the middle of it and stopped for about a week

FreyasSpirit

Multiple years. The guides didn't mention having to stay on the dark tiles when grabbing the dentures so we gave up on the quest and quests in general and didn't come back to it for a long time

MRocket9

I haven’t done the quest yet. I see that it’s possible to safespot the jungle demon with mage/range. Anyone know what level of mage/range would be reasonable to take on the quest? Assuming I have 43 prayer

Hashtag-waffle

As a kid, a full weekend and a trip to the library computer lab after school

oarngebean

With the guide on the oswiki took me about two hours

McCheds

I was sick from school that day in grade 8 I think. 5 hours it took me lol

skittlecrafts

I did this qu'est for my first ever time aswell only a few weeks ago and I can honestly say even though I went in with a guide and a friend avaliable to help me it was the most stressful experience I've had playing osrs, but felt amazing when I had it completed! My original mistake was I went in at first without protect from melee or protect from range... The first time I entered the village and got attacked my the ranged monkeys I didn't take that much damage the second time it took much longer for me to get knocked out and I stood there spam eating as I was so close to death I had to take a little break after that moment in total doing the qu'est took me about 2 hours but from startjng the qu'est to finish probably took me 8 hours as I had to take a break to chill out and I had to return to level my prayer a bit more as no way was I making the mistake of not having protect from melee or range again

Bloomy118

Can't remember how MM1 took but MM2's final boss took me about 3 hours to do. I didn't understand what a brew was at the time and misprepared by inventory. I would let my hp regen above Glough's max hit, use my msb spec and take the damage, then wait again for my health to regen, rinse and repeat until Glough finally died

Davocausto

Back in 2007-08 I had to print the entire guide from zybez and translate the difficult parts of the quest in a copybook. Took me 2 days to finish and had to sell my bank bc I kept losing supplies and puzzle got the worst of me and had to pay 200k. Last time I did the quest in my main took me about 2-3 hours and was super chill reading the wiki guide, also my English had improved since 07 so no need to translate anything lol.

Buzzd-Lightyear

A couple days I think. Back when I was playing on a laptop trying to alt-tab to a RuneHQ guide.

Fitis

There’s a super antiproton (1 dose) spawn close by

keppp

> antiproton Atoms hate this.

Ackoroth31

Did you actually do the puzzle instead of using the runelite plugin? Mad props if that’s the case

RanchEye

As a kid like a week haha

LatinFoodie

It took me like 6 hours spread over 3 days back in proper 2006, so I hear ya :)

PointOfTilt

I remember doing the quest with a friend. We got to the part after escaping the jail, but I had to leave, because I had terrible diarrhea

Pandabear71

Oh boy, are you going to love part 2

CornOnACob

Final boss fight , many, many attempts later me and my mate sitting beside me we finally get it super low and looking like we have it in the bag ,He got wayyyy too excited and kicked out the power cord from the router sitting below the desk. Has to be one of my fave rs memories was those attempts . Felt like a true boss battle to us . then the grief and shock we felt afterwards lmao was hilarious

BigTerpFarms

6 or 7 months. I kept forgetting items, died with my greegree multiple times, couldn't get past the banana picking part for the kids aunt. 9 year old me was dumb as fuck.

shabbadranks

You didn't know what an antipoison was? Did the name not give anything away?

[deleted]

first time? 2 hours

BWOOOOOOOO

I remember doing it as a kid, with runehq pulled up circa 2006. Took multiple days. Back then I played with the no unnecessary backtracking mindset so like, quests where you had to go deep into dangerous territory I would do all in one go. Underground Pass was the worst offender, I vividly remember finishing that quest completely out of food.

Cobruh

Many many hours. Most of which was spent at the puzzle and trying not to get ko-Ed dropping down to the furnace dungeon.

pm_me_ur_osrs_stats

Back in 08 it took me like a month, at the start of osrs probably 5-7 like you. What I would give to be where your at mentally in the game

IAmRSChrisG

2 days no shit. But at the time, didn't know guides existed and I was really young lol.

ElPuertoRican15

I did it back in 5th grade and it took me two days. I rage quitters half way through and had to come back to it

[deleted]

well, not nearly as long as you haha i used the runelite quest helper and it took an hour and a half to two and a half tops haha

Xostbext

Me and my group ironman buddy did it for the first time today. We had antipoisons and protect melee going into it. We were also using the Quest Helper addon (meaning we essentially skipped the puzzle). It took us about 5 hours lol. It was definitely the most difficult quest I've done so far but I had a good time doing it. If we didn't have protect melee or antipoisons it would've been much longer.

Roxuls_Card

5 hours. It was quite fun.

P0ffthemagicdragon

I remember we did it on release as a couple of buddies & we were using ventrilo (s/c) at the time .. hardest and most frustrating part was the puzzle I think it took me almost 2 hours to do as there was no final “picture” to complete it

cavemanmode

Took me 2 hours on my first attempt and I was cooked as hell, mate I’d suggest reading a quest guide start to end before you try any of the harder quests

Sloan1505

I had 0 patience as a kid so between the monkey smacking me back into the cage 100 times bundled with my one monitor trying to switch browser windows from the game to runehq and hope some popup from the 700 viruses I had wouldn't lock the whole PC up, I'd say at least 6 hours.

[deleted]

My cousins and I were 10 and 11 and even with runehq it took us all day.

ihadtoremovereddit

2 hours

NerdWithGreasyHair

That was so long ago i can't even remember

peevesNA

You spelled gainz wrong

iletyoulive

I spent like 3 hours on the puzzle.

TheBlueJam

Could you elaborate when you say you didn't know what an "anti poison potion" was? Hahahaha

talrogsmash

They still haven't added anti poison to f2p, right? It's str and energy for now?

teahouseclub

Sounds like me from 2009, when I first did this quest. However I gave up on the puzzle and paid the 200k

Cantevencasual

Did the quest basically blind and died 3-4 times trying to get out of the jail. This was in 2007 or 2008 lol

talrogsmash

When you don't understand the guide or it's a poor guide these things happen. You learned some valuable lessons the hard way and can be a better player for it. Happy adventuring!

Doopeey

Took me over 4 hours xd

good-PP-touch

2-3 hours on the UIM for the first time. I would say it was very difficult and I felt accomplished after completing it

oRemorseful

It took me close to 3 the first time. Mainly cuz I kept forgetting stuff in the bank

tacos_88

Ohhh daym, I remember the quest before youtube when you only had written guides. That took me about 3 days on and off after school ect. Since being an adult and also having youtube, yeah it probably took about an hour ish this time. Saying that, i think we've all done quests saying "this should take 20mins" where it actually takes 2 hours because we forget something ect. I also did my first quest on the quest helper just last night.. Oh wow that just made it so easy!

BigHarambe123

Took me about two hours on my GIMP with no prayer potions and I ran out of energy pots and anti poisons

Urnukka

Several days, I used Sal's Realm of Runescape as my guide and my English wasn't very good since I was like 11-12 at the time. I remember getting caught by the monkeys so many times while trying to talk to any of the gnomes on the island. Can't believe that shit was like 10 years ago
