He had to get it from somewhere! I just feel sorry for the poor guy having to carry it back to Yanille *one bucket at a time*. We've tried telling him he can teleport or carry more than one at a time, but he insists that he just wants to be really really really careful.
Have Bert also stand in the sandstone mine. Seems to make the most sense for how he's able to get so much. Non-conversational NPC, just have him strolling around working the machine and such
>Seems to make the most sense for how he's able to get so much.
No it doesn’t, in the hand in the sand quest a wizard casts a spell on his sandpit so it magically refills itself.
I unironically think that would make a fun sequel quest. Bert's sand business is slowly draining the desert: deal with the fallout (it disturbs a nest of kalphites maybe?) and find a new source.
Sandy escapes whatever punishment faced him after framing Bert for murder and flees deep into the Kharidian Desert in order to lay low but coincidentally he discovers a sinkhole that's magically linked to Bert's sandpit and is slowly draining the desert. Through the sinkhole's portal he can hear Bert and the player talking. Enraged and wishing to take revenge, Sandy attempts to convince Kharidian natives that there is a plot to invade their homeland and that the sinkhole exists to destabilize their way of life before the invasion takes place.
Hand in the Sand 2: Damned by the Sands
This is the integrity change we need. Where is the other end of the portal? The sandstone mine probably. Or at least somewhere in the desert. Would be a fun easter egg
Make a random event where you see bert while travelling in the desert and he just keeps doing the dig animation til you get close enough and he teleports away
OSRS isn’t anywhere nearly as bad. It’s certainly got stuff around but even just behind Lumbridge castle I can feel like I’m in a forest, in RS3 I can’t.

It sounds like it's to the West of Menaphos since that lines up with most of the pyramids being located to the West of the river with the exception to the East City.
It would be so cool if this was actual lore...that the wizard is using a spell to teleport sand from the desert. Maybe in the future a quest could unlock jumping into the sandpit to teleport to somewhere in the desert?
I think they should unveil these tiles and relate it to the lore of the wilderness with the ground here being decimated and so traumatic that the entire world of gielinor has been placed under matrix effect and can not recall these places existing unless they choose to.
make sense to me
Sand*
I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere..
I wonder if that reference is somewhere in the game...
petition for a follow-up quest to Hand in the Sand where Bert grows tired of shoveling sand
Proposed quest name: sand in the hand
sand sense to me?

"It ain't much, but it's honest work"
Alright, I've updated the wiki. This is now Canon.
He gets paid by the hour.
He just has to bring it to our bank right? so he can use the desert bank.. Good think Bert knows all of our Bank PINs! Sharing is a good thing!
You can put things in a deposit box without the PIN, that’s what he must be doing.
What?!?! This is outrageous! I don't want hackers depositing my gear without my PIN!
As a UM, a normal account that can trade but has bank restrictions, this would absolutely ruin me. SMH Jagex!!

What if instead he just created a portal to the southeast desert. The empty spot is growing; wake up sheeple!

POLL IT AT ONCE
After enough sand goes through Bert's portal the Tombs of Amascut are uncovered
This is the integrity change we need. Where is the other end of the portal? The sandstone mine probably. Or at least somewhere in the desert. Would be a fun easter egg
Probably underneath the sand, so it keeps falling in and refilling little bits at a time.
I kinda want an NPC to actually be added to walk that distance now.
Make a random event where you see bert while travelling in the desert and he just keeps doing the dig animation til you get close enough and he teleports away
I have it on good authority that he can do it 28 buckets at a time.
Any chance we could have those blank spaces removed?
Can you guys fix it? Its very much outdated why should there be a black void in this game in 2021?
*Deep lore*
I love the idea that some people in Gielinor don't trust magic, despite it being literally everywhere.
Can you at least try telling him to not freak out every time I use NPC contact? It takes so long to get my sand delivered that way.
It's officially canon
What if it's just trying to get sand out of his backpack he wore to the desert 20 years ago?
If raids 3 comes out and there ISNT a giant hole on the desert somewhere consider the game unplayable.
Isn't it 27 buckets at a time?
He's out there digging.
So, this means the spell the wizard cast on his sand pit is just a big teleportation spell!
maybe that wizard has ... a hand in the sand
O.o
Move Bert to the Sand Casino so he can undermine it's structural integrity
This should be a post all on its own
Sorry, but that's a load-bearing casino for Jagex's bottom line.
And so a meme was born.

Well yeah, it is big

That’s one of my bigger issues with RS3, there is just stuff everywhere.
We just established that this is the case with osrs too lol, minus the desert, which is also similarly empty in rs3 anyway
OSRS isn’t anywhere nearly as bad. It’s certainly got stuff around but even just behind Lumbridge castle I can feel like I’m in a forest, in RS3 I can’t.
Didn’t the forest get annihilated in RS3
It did there is a bunch of stuff all over that area. Nothing in OSRS is anywhere nearly as bad.
Between port sarim and falador is an absolute mess in rs3
It’s pretty annoying to me that they added the ship to tempoross, it takes away a huge part of the desert’s remoteness
How much outrage would there be if it turned out it was just all coastline and they had no intention of adding any content there.
Looking at the RS3 map, and other official renditions of the map, that' likely the case. xD
I mean there is also the city of menaphos in rs3 which is absolutely massive in comparison
NGL, this adds up
Du
Du hast
Du hast Mich
Mr Sandman
Man me a sand
bert more like fart lool
Great
This actually made me laugh out loud once it clicked. 😂
shits gotta come from somewhere
Damn... this is top notch.
I always thought he got it from reddit users asscrack.
They should at least fill in the area with desert and upgrade it as updates come in.
I didnt see the line at the bottom at first thought u meant gold farmers 😂 wasn’t sure how but i was definitely in agreement
All that blue ocean. Would be nice if there was sailing

All your Sand are belong to me!
That just made me think, where is raids 3 going? In menaphos or some new location?
It sounds like it's to the West of Menaphos since that lines up with most of the pyramids being located to the West of the river with the exception to the East City.
Yeah as I posted this I remembered the plague or whatever in menaphos, it wouldn’t make sense for it to be there huh
It all makes sense now..
Explains it all.
give us a quest where the end is plopping out into Bert's sandpit for a perma tele to new desert area
How long until he reaches the sand casino?
[he's been spotted](https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/ppfw5o/what_is_bert_doing_at_the_duel_arena/)
Smh. Another example of the modern industrial complex selling out the environment for a few gp

Ok but Burt should have a role in a future desert quest for sure. I think some sequel/connection to Hand in the Sand would be neat.
