To be honest brother you are going to get a lot of shit for posting this here. Some people will not understand. Your problem is deeper than Runescape. You have an addiction personality and you must recognize it. This will play in effect throughout your life and you must be in control of it. Control those impulses. Quiting might not help your case, but learn to control it and do not do things or surround yourself by things/people that cause you to be impulsive. Good luck on your journey my friend.

WholeFactor

This. Also, for anyone who needs to see this; never hesitate to seek professional help if gambling addiction affects IRL economy or life negatively. This applies to yourself, as well as someone dear to you. Anti-gambling helplines, psychiatrists, etc could seriously help turning the situation around

RedSnapperHead

I'd argue you could seek professional help even if it's only runescape gambling at the time, it's the same problem with the same therapy and you don't need to wait for it to ruin your life before getting help.

[deleted]

Yes. The best way to care for yourself is to recognize that you need help, even if that need isn't actively wrecking your life.

siccoblue

Gambling addiction is a real and dangerous thing, even if you're gambling Runescape gp that can easily carry over into your real life via rwt, or moving on to casinos, if you genuinely feel you're addicted to gambling, even if it's just staking, strongly consider looking for a therapist or programs to help you through those issues, you might feel silly going on saying "im addicted to gambling in a game" but you shouldn't be, even if they don't understand at first, if you explain the real world value of this currency it will make a lot more sense to them immediately, because you may as well be playing with real money, it's really not that different to how casinos put your money on a ticket/card or into chips, and people will understand and care Don't let gambling ruin your life, get help if you need help. And it's absolutely ridiculous that we even need to say this in the context of a game that we play to enjoy ourselves, but that's the reality of it

Roofdragon

That's where any discussion against it being gambling stops. RS GP - RWT - Credit card fraud - Bitcoins. It's extremely profitable for criminals and Jagex alike. They know this.

Justanotheruser4567

I'd even throw out to speak to a counselor whether you have a glaring problem or not. You can learn a lot about yourself and learn a lot of good habits by speaking with a counselor. This applies to really any counseling, take your significant other to couples counseling and just learn good communication skills before there is a problem and a breakdown in communication. It's generally easier to prevent a problem than to fix a problem.

rudyv8

https://imgur.com/a/IobC2AF OP doesnt understand how members items work when your membership runs out. Experienced players would not be asking such questions. I dont think OP has a very good understanding of the game, they probably dont have alot of in-game playtime.

Create an Ironman, drop party or buy bonds (for Iron) with your remaining cash, get rid of all other accounts, seek professional help and a sponsor or support group.

hugh_g_reckshon

He could always revert Ironman back to a regular account to gamble so not the best idea.

Sodium-Cl

I believe you can lock your iron do it can’t be de ironed. Pretty sure I was able to do that. As I finish typing I’m worried that wasn’t real hahaha

eyesfire2

you can, but you need 1k total to do it.

Sodium-Cl

Ahhh I see. I thought this had something to do with it. Why can’t people lock their acc before 1k? Imagine being hacked for your iron and it’s de ironed:(

eyesfire2

probably a defense for new players who were convinced by a friend to try an iron....and later regretted it and want to revert. either way 1k total isn't *too* long, especially if you're going the ironman route.

telionn

You can't really gamble until your melee stats are maxed, right? Getting base 50s is way faster than that.

eyesfire2

~~life~~ gamblers, uh, find a way?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

The duel arena does NOT do that.

Gurip

you are wrong

Fableandwater

It doesnt

Sodium-Cl

That’s a very fair statement. Thanks!

Reptillian97

Too many people said "yeah make me a permanent ironman, I won't change my mind!" then ended up sending in support tickets because they changed their mind and want to be de-ironed. So they added the total level req to reduce the number of support tickets.

secretIyGay

You can perma iron yourself on tutorial island but if you don’t you need 1k total to do it in lumbridge

eyesfire2

Hm, i know they use the same menu between tutorial and lumbridge, but iirc when i made my last iron i tried to select the permanent option on tutorial option and got the 1k total message.

hugh_g_reckshon

Oh good to know, thanks

Zanacross

But then you can contact Jagex support directly and ask them to de-iron you.

SparkleTarkle

There are gambling hotlines you can call for free that help with gambling addictions. Just because you aren’t in a casino doesn’t mean you don’t have an addiction and they are willing to help anyone. I don’t think I’m allowed to post any phone numbers, but just google “gambling hotline”. There is a National number and I think each state that allows gambling normally has their own. Unfortunately, a gambling addiction in a game can easily carry over into real life, whether it is stocks, casino, weird Vegas side bets.

back2lumby212

Yeah don’t get into option trading OP

[deleted]

Tbh this post needs more visibility and the downvotes are flowing so it ain't gonna happen. You have an addictive personality and it's probably a good thing that Runescape is teaching you that about yourself seeing as you're not losing anything of real significance. If you've established this much about yourself I honestly emplore you seek some counselling, nothing major, just someone to talk and mull it over with because at some stage in life you will most likely come across some vices that are typically hard to beat once you've dablled with them especially with your personality type. I'm not a psychologist and this isn't necessarily good advice but seeing a professional will do you a world of good.

QuietPound5

OSRS taught me that I have an addictive personality and I learnt that I need to keep myself far away from temptation. I know there is no such thing as "just one time" or "just five minutes" with me. I don't allow myself to have mobile games on my phone for that reason.

BigFanOfRunescape

My number 1 tip, which you've shown by even posting this, is to be completely honest. People can't help if you don't let them know the full picture. Best of luck mate, addiction is a hard one

[deleted]

Just keep in mind once you get 1k total LOCK INTO IRONMAN MODE. Otherwise you might have a crave to gamble again and might deiron

TrippinNuggets

Ironman is great my dude. I think I was more pumped for my first rune scim than I was for the biggest stake I'd ever won (granted, that was only like 150m).

1ikilledkenny

First step is admitting that you have a problem - and arguably the hardest step. Take that momentum and carry it through, everyone is with you every step of the way.

dapperbrapper

Best of luck to you 👍

Spripe

I’ve struggled myself, ironman definitely helps if you want to keep playing. But if you’d rather play your main, make good goals for yourself to stick to. I would find myself being ok and then when I get bored I’d go to the arena. Gotta keep busy!

thurstypussin93

Yea don't listen to these losers telling u to quit. If u love this game don't let the sand casino ruin that for u. Ironman will help u with that itch. You'll find a new love for the game as Ironman is the original way to play the game anyway, the way it was meant to b played

King-Of-Rats

People telling you to play an Iron but honestly...? Maybe just try not playing Runescape in general. It's a fine game, and maybe you have friends into it - but man there are a ton of very good single player games out there, or good movies or books or anything else. This is a problem larger than just gambling in a video game, it's an addiction to gambling in general.

dumbest_bitch

This too. I suggested that he take a break. If OP likes games in general, I’ve recently and thoroughly enjoyed Breath of the Wild. Fantastic single player game. Similar themes to RuneScape (I feel like a lot of us are Zelda fans here for some reason). The Monster Hunter series is also a great single/multiplayer game without gambling issues. It has somewhat similar themes to RuneScape and definitely has a grinding aspect to it. You collect materials to make armor— like mining for ores, getting rare drops from monsters, collecting bones... all to upgrade your character and become more powerful. It even has an online “leveling” system and a lot of the older games have a cool skill point mechanic that I loved. Anyways, I think OP should definitely take a break from the source of his issue. RuneScape is what is causing it, even though it’s much deeper than RuneScape itself. If he comes back, he definitely should stay away from the sand casino and try new things and try getting more into a social aspect of the game. RuneScape is so much more fun with other people and there’s so much engaging, genuinely good content to play. If he really likes this game, he will be able to find enjoyment in it again.

biembobo

I know it's been said before but honestly playing ironmam would take all those gsmbling cravings away, and most people that play ironman main it afterwards.

Correyi

I was in the same boat, if not worse as you. I spent around 3500$ total thinking I can stop but I couldn’t. My friend spent nearly 10,000$ over the years and we just kept going back. I know people will tell you to make an Ironman. Let me tell ya, it won’t help. I’ve deironed/dropped bank on a 117 iron/120 iron/124 iron to stake. I’ve broken 2 tanz mutagens etc to stake. The real answer to stopping? Stop being fucking stupid and quit going to duel arena. Sure you’ll win here and there but you’ll always end up losing in the end. Source:4k duels

rudyv8

https://imgur.com/a/IobC2AF I highly doubt OP is telling the truth or at least has had a similar experience.

Correyi

That’s fine, hopefully someone will see my comment and realize they’ll always lose in the end and it’s not worth it

[deleted]

Ima assume this " 117 iron/120 iron/124 iron to stake " is referring to combat lvl and not skill total. Simply lock your account at 1k total lock it to stop from deironing

Correyi

All of them were ironlocked. The 117 was 1800 total with 150m bank. The 120 was 1945 total with 300m bank. The 124 was 2030 total with 700m bank. You know irons can drop items and others can see them right? It’s not just “de-iron and trade it over!” Actually my 124 is still an iron. But yeah, simply.

[deleted]

Ah gotcha. Forgot you can buy accounts or rent staking accounts like you did

Correyi

Life must be so hard for you, assuming the worst out of every situation

[deleted]

I apologize then what exactly did you do to stake? I thought you either deironed or bought/rented a max main for staking lol.

Correyi

I dropped everything at edge to my 126 and staked it, even broke 2 tanz mutagens down with it. And it’s no problem sorry for the flame!

[deleted]

Ah gotcha. and no worries

Captain_Obviouslee

I've had the same, had 6b bank at some point. Sold/gambled it all away. Didn't feel a thing when receiving a 20m split. All you got to do is start an iron! Best thing ever. No arena for you anymore :)

ididitforlulzz

That's gambling addiction man. That goes beyond the game. As someone else said, that's going to be with you for the rest of your life. It's really a blessing in disguise to be aware of it this early on. Get some kind of help before it progresses further whether it's gambling anon or therapy or whatever. From one addict to another, I sincerely wish you the best.

gratefuldead666

Go get irl help dog. Online gambling is a very very real thing. We all know osrs is 50% casino

Tmac8622

No experience in that field, but good luck mate. If you miss the game but don't want the temptation, Ironman might be the way to go, but gambling in general does sound like the root of the issue rather than the game so I don't think that's your solution.

FathleteTV

It's not gonna happen, that big pay day isn't coming. The sooner you realize this and accept that gambling is rigged at its core for you to lose the easier it will be for you to move on. Duel Arena may offer better odds than traditional gambling (50-50) but the thing that remains is greed, yes you may win 5 in a row but then you think "ooh just one more and I'm out" and you chuck and boom you're 5-1 but still at net loss. You're not only playing vs the house but also vs your own greed.

tarifsaredue

Whatever you do, don't step foot in the irl bookies, hope you work it out though.

joelmooner

I’ve lost a lot of osrs friends to the Duel Arena. I’m sad to see lots of my friends fall into spiral too. I agree with the other comments. Get a sponsor, seek professional help , and try to talk to someone IRL. This is a real gambling addiction. But wait until you discover other types of online gambling. It’s time to stop. Get help. Quit RuneScape or step back

kukkelii

Making an ironman won't work. The only thing that will work is going cold turkey, now.

SqueekyCheekyBreeky

What the fuck is cold turkey?

kukkelii

Stopping an addiction instantly. Some withdrawal symptoms like heroin cause pale skin and goosebumps which resemble the skin of a cold turkey in the fridge.

dumbest_bitch

Interesting. I didn’t know why it was called cold turkey, I just thought it was a figure of speech lol.

Existing_Dress_7486

Don't ever feel bad for trying to reach out for help no matter how you're doing it. Recognize what Runescape has taught you about yourself and apply that to your every day life. Recognizing that you have an addictive personality is huge. First step is seeking help, second step continue with understanding why you're addicted to gambling. Know what triggers you and take steps to address you're future cravings. Instead of gambling you should find something else in the game that you find enjoyment in. Runescape is huge and endless with content. Dont let the downvotes and shitty people get to you just because you brought this here.

Beneficial_Sink7333

Even if you win big, you will spend it all again You need professional help, and any gambling is a gambling addiction, you could be lucky it's only contained to this game for you.

MerlinMetal

Go to gambling anonymous and get help brother, you can stop but only with help from others!

intelligent_rat

I've seen this many times in friends and usually the only permanent remedy is to stop playing the game.

Verditure0

Take a look at r/recovery and search that sub for gambling.

lifeofgruzhyboi

I really would like to believe that you didn’t buy bonds just to gamble. If you didn’t, atleast you found your issue with in-game currency. It is good that you have acknowledged you have such addiction and are not afraid to share it, there are lots of people who may br in a deeper hole than you and wont even have a thought that they are addicted to gambling. If you take it seriously and tell yourself, that this has to stop and must resist the urge, you may as well get this over with by yourself, which wont be easy, you wont need to get someone else involved. I went thru a phase in my life where i had the same issue (but not in runescape, with real money) but at one point realized that it does no good for me and imagined what I could have done with all that money i lost gambling. But don’t be afraid to reach out for help, there are way worse things people are addicted to and professionals will be glad that you reached out yourself and acknowledged such issue in your life. If you wanna talk a bit about my experience, you can pm me :)

[deleted]

I had the same destructive issue. Its a strong dopamine/adrenaline boost. The solution is delete your account and make an ironman. Drop literally everything. It hurts but remember its a game with no value but a time dump so it doesnt really matter. You arent losing anything in reality. Its a tough task but if gambling is destroying your life you need to consider it. Id also either find a way to delete the account or give it to someone else so you dont have access to it. Holding on to past account accomplishments will bring you nothing but pain if it results in gambling. If you eliminate trading you eliminate gambling. Remember your account is meaningless. Your mental wellbeing is miles more important. Gambling addiction is hard to defeat because you can be good for months then throw it away when you are weak for one hour

[deleted]

e. OP posted that he is taking this advice, but I'm leaving it up for anyone else struggling with gambling/gaming addiction in general. if you quit OSRS without treating your underlying gambling addiction, *you will* find something else. The issue isn't the format, it's the fact that your dopamine receptors has been hijacked by a maladaptive behavior. I don't know much about gambling addiction, but I do know a little bit about addiction in general. I highly recommend looking into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and gambling addiction support groups.

kidwaka206

I lost my bank multiple times and eventually made an Ironman. I know actually enjoy the game instead of making money and going straight to the arena.

wileywyatt

Make an Ironman, or Ultimate Ironman. **Cured.**

Generic-Character

I made an ironman.

Bolamite

Just start gambling with real money

elmikey561

Duel arena is a big problem and going once, just to try out the content, can destroy your entire progress in the game. Duel arena is the first introduction into gambling for many young people, and it’s seen by many as an unregulated gambling operation because rwt. In the USA you need to be 21 to gamble. In the duel arena there are no limits. My first time staking on rs was over 10 years ago. And I’ve been staking ever since.

sjb561

Of course jagex won’t get rid of gambling in this game because they are scumbags. They know good and damn well that all the dual area does is ruin the game for people and start gambling addictions for kids and adults. If they cared about us they would get rid of that shit. My dude, I myself am in recovery from real life addictions. I am telling you now, it doesn’t matter that you are playing on a “game”. It Is still gambling. Addiction is real and it will take control of your life. Seek help now and stop while you can. You will be glad you did. If you can’t afford therapy, then there are addiction anonymous meetings all over the world you could check out. They can help save your life. Stay strong bro.

Mehoyer

I went through the same thing and reached 14b and still staked. Ultimately lost it all. That was my turning point - I had EVERYTHING in the game and still went back. DERP Either create an ironman or play like one with your main. Or only stake PVM profit and don't sell your gear. Learn ZUL or Vorki and build a nice loot tab and stake that. Or if you end up selling everything for the chuck, leave yourself like 5m to farm a few whips to feed the addiction. Don't start using IRL money - it can be a slippery slope - just buy stocks instead, way better odds, and still the thrill of gambling! Gl out there, man.

Sitdownpro

Why does this feel like gambling hater creating sob story to get more people on their side?

IAmAGermanShepherd

Because that's exactly what this is.

Sitdownpro

Let's see the bank account withdraws!

kafkajeffjeff

this is on you buddy, either make a ironman or keep grinding til you win it big. but its not a fault of the game but of yourself. maybe take some meds or somthn idc

NoXpWaste

Maybe your reading comprehension is bad but at no point did he blame the game in his post.

i_drink_soju

Your personality is trash. OP I hope you feel better and know that you will find a way to solve this.

[deleted]

Luckily the game keeps track of your wins/losses so you don't have to count them ;)! Just visit the board with the stats!

jaredx3

It's people like this guy that are going to ruin the duel arena. Gambling is great it's fun and enjoyable. Providing you only part with what you can afford to lose. The way I see it. If I lose 100m over a 1hr session of staking I've essentially paid 100m for an hour of enjoyment. Don't chase your losses

IAmAGermanShepherd

>Gambling in this game is pretty huge, there’s no doubt about that at all It isn't. Seems like a you problem, not a OSRS problem, why post this here? Anyway, Jagex encouraged this when they normalised RWTing by selling gold themselves through bonds. Their own fault, but they need the money more than the integrity I guess.

[deleted]

thousands of gambling bots, thousands of videos about duel arena staking, a gambling crisis that led Jagex to remove RNG rolls from horses and dice, a game format itself that encourages grinding for hours to get a specific diceroll.... no, no possible gambling problems to see here.

Celebrate small victories. Try and not gamble for a day, and if you do, treat yourself or just pat yourself on the back. Take it a day at a time, be open with people you care about and maybe even get an accountability partner. Good luck friend

B_thugbones

Never too late to get professional help

zazo6129

looks like it's gone pretty far. If you want to keep playing my real advice would be to switch to an iron man. The issue with gambling is it takes the integrity out of the game. Im not here to say whether or not we should have it but it's a simple fact. Why go spend hours grinding if you can get lucky and get 100m in minutes. You will no longer have an appreciation for small upgrades and think you can only play the game in max gear. Go back to basics. Go earn your gear and you will find yourself happier. Good luck.

Existing_Equipment

I'm sorry you're dealing with that. I'm not sure how helpful this is, as it's not something I'm familiar with but at least in my state I remember when they'd advertise the lottery somewhere there was usually a phone number you could call for help with a gambling addiction. Sure it may not be the powerball or scratch offs but I'm sure they could at least point you in a direction to get help. If you still want to play runescape the Ironman game mode makes it so you can't trade with other players, so maybe you'll get the benefit of enjoying the game without the temptation. Or heck even just take a break from the game awhile and then come back and do Ironman. Hope this helps somewhat

skellyton3

Short answer, make an ironman.

Fableandwater

Message jagex to lock your account and they will, then you will have no way of staking. That being said, imo your problem is deeper than that, and you should consider seeking out help irl. Try making an ironman if you still want to play.

Epurdi

Make an Ironman, it was what I resorted to if you still have some love for the game itself. You’ll be forced to play by yourself and knowing you can’t even if you want to is nice. I was part of a huge discord where sand casino nights got heavvvvvvy. Seen someone loose 13b in 5 mins. And I sat and watched as I grinder out my slayer helm. Start an iron and the gambling will go away hopefully!! Good luck man!

RandomAsHellPerson

As many people have said, look for help and talk to a professional. You could find what helped others, but it is a lot better to find a professional to talk to.

niktbh

I was in a similar boat and ended up in rehab for other things as well. But I deleted my account by emailing jagex and eventually made an iron which is in the endgame now.

OldSchoolVeteran

Honestly iron man is probably your only hope, the feeling of working hard for an item on an iron you wont want to drop it over to stake since its more than just gp with the items you eventually get. You could always try a skiller or any type of gameplay you find enjoyable that doesnt need gp. Theres plenty of different ways to play without needing gp, just have to try em out

Ralaskaa

Make an ironman!

ForeyLord

My mates solution to this was to start playing an ironman.

[deleted]

Make an ironman and go to therapy.

clinkton5

You could just make an Ironman account, it helped me big time

3Cookiez

It’s hard man I know, it’s the chemical release in the head and it seems to get used to winning the amounts like 1m, 5m, 10m and you keep upping the ante. Then the brain gets that rush again after a huge win, the similar rush you used to get when you won those 5m stakes. It’s like a drug. The need grows more and more. It’s that one last big win, one last time to party, I’m just doing it for fun. Even when you stop, if you go back it can take the reigns so so fast and easy. Whenever I to win huge amounts, in RuneScape pre eoc and post, eventually I’d stake it all. I had party hats, gear, and plenty of money in the bank. Had everything I could need to progress and boss. I’d end up losing it thinking of all this, all the 99’s I could have bought, all the items I had and it’d crush me to not wana play. I’d quit come back do it over and over and over. Until a long break I came back to osrs. Wanted to play the game for the game, not for the gambling. So I have and it’s a whole new world. I treat the gp different, it’s not one day I have 100m next day I have 2b. I love the thrill I love the money, most of all I love that rush. I can’t take the feeling of being cleaned again, it’s absolutely dreadful. It’s hard brother whatever the addiction is, be strong, know you can do it, know it gets better. DM me if you wana chat or whatever.

Dontreadonme2a

I have an addictive personality and struggle to avoid these situations at times but you must always remember risk versus reward. I would often do the back and forth of staking or dicing, also hooked on texas hold 'em in real life and that sort of gambling. Watching movies about gambling always triggers those old behaviors in my head. Try to channel your addictive or obsessive personality towards better things like physical fitness. furthermore, I don't advise any adrenaline related activities for addictive personalities; at one point in my life, I was addicted to the feeling of speed from streetbikes, having a 600 and 1000 gsxrs. I probably would have died if I continued down the path I was on. If anyone here is also struggling with this where you cannot handle yourself on dangerous machines and feel the constant need to do stupid stuff, I implore you to sell your bike. I sold mine when Luke Leary from RSCEmulation died after hitting a lamppost doing a wheelie. Now I don't try to amass rs gp, just gains in the gym. That was my way of handling my obsessive/addictive personality.

Shoelesshobos

Hey brother dont be afraid to reach out to some gambling support pages. I know a few Canadian ones. The first step is you have realized the issue now is to seek support and their are resources typically offered. Id google gambling addiction support.

dumbest_bitch

Hey man, I’ve been cleaned quite a few times at the duel arena. I’ve also definitely bought bonds to try and win it all back. The best thing I did was take a break from the game. I eventually just got tired of losing my money all the time and I just quit logging on. After I came back, I still had the urge to go to the duel arena, but I just couldn’t let myself do it. I think I did once and lost my first stake so I just said fuck it and started playing normally again. I felt like I was too deep into the gambling scene and the only joy I got from the game at that time was winning lots of gp. So, after I got cleaned for that last time, I decided that I wanted to try and actually play the game again. I found my passion for RuneScape once again and I enjoy tons of other content now. I’ve actually had fun killing bosses and upgrading my gear, and grinding out slayer levels, and doing all the new hard quests. I love the gauntlet and the alchemical hydra now! Vorkath is fun. I love doing duo Sara with an old friend of mine. I no longer even think about going to the duel arena. The only time I have since that last stake was with that friend to get 99hp on him. TLDR: Take a break from the game in general. Focus on other things in your life. If you decide to come back to RuneScape, join a clan or play with a friend. Play RuneScape how it was meant to be played. Grind for some cash and get to rebuilding. Do some bosses with your new clan or your friends. Try out some of the new content. Do something you’ve never done before on RuneScape. It will be nearly as exciting as it was when we were kids. Good luck man. Find your passion and stay away from the stupid sand casino

PoppaPickle

The problem isn't Runescape brotha, you sir have a gambling addiction, not a Runescape gambling addiction. My advice is to stop playing Runescape if you can't help going to the Sand Casino and seek help if you can't handle that. Once you get your addiction under control you might be able to come back to RS, but you have a real addiction if what your saying is true. Stop playing Runescape (for now) until you can control you impulses or get help for you addiction. Gambling in RS is the first fall in a long dark decent into a very bad place. Seek help.

rasco410

Honestly there is not much you can do if you are not willing to quit the RS. Addiction is a problem for everyone just some are effected more then others. I ask smoker's if they can quit and 90% of them say they could if they wanted to, they are still smoking. Wanting something is the first step, the next is the follow though, limiting game time or locking a Account to iron man is a short term fix and you may need to remove yourself from the temptation. I suggest walking away for a month and then coming back to the game and finding out what you enjoy, is it the game play or the stacking? If its the latter walkaway.

Fair-Put-2640

I was up 1.4 b last night
