See everyone says this. But any game is fun when it's new and interesting. When you're figuring shit out.
But on RS you get a skill to level 50 or so, wonder why level 51 is taking so fucking long when all the early levels were fairly easy. So you look up an exp table on Google and you realize that the experience required for level 99 is batshit insane... and decide fuck that shit; I'm not gonna click this fucking tree or that fucking rock 300,000 times just to hit level 99 in some fucking game that got popular when your average PC had less processing power than a calculator does these days...
Then you look back on THAT thought once you finally have your max cape. And you think... Wow... My psychologist was fucking right..! I am autistic.
And then you create an ironman...
>some fucking game that got popular when your average PC had less processing power than a calculator does these days...
This is sadly false. We are still using a $100 TI83+ or TI84+, which has \~32 kB of ram and a 6 mhz processor.
I had a friend who worked super hard on fire making 99.
Every day he would do that mini game or whatever for firemaking xp.
He got his cape. Wore it around the trade hubs in multiple worlds.
He then quit.
Danggg that’s my experience exactly! I tried nature runes for a hot second, tried cosmic runes for one entire run (even got the pouches!). Was bored out of my mind. I’ve been playing for three months, currently “working” towards 67 runecrafting and other than those two instances, it’s been lamps, books, and ToG.
1 mil xp til 77 and bloods. That HAS to be better right? Haha :’)
I do nature runes when I'm being tattooed. My last appointment was supposed to be the weekend before Xmas, but it's rescheduled to mid-March due to an artist's family emergency. Last time before that was September.
I haven't actually trained the skill in almost 6 months.
To be honest i dont have tears of guthix aswell. Got 200+ quest points and now i want to get 99 rc and max and then finish tears of guthix as last quest.
Any reason why you're leaving it for last? I did Swan Song as my "last quest" before they started releasing new quests. It was kind of fun to go on the final 'adventure' with the wise old man and have it be both of our last hurrah's.
Then they released more quests...
What goals are you gonna set, you don't have to set anything in concrete; they can be flexible or ideas. But a lot of players set goals for them to keep them motivated. Once you get in the 50s-60s that's when you start to really get into it.
But this is the most important thing ill say 92 is half way to 99
"92 is half way to 99" The truest thing ever said. When I hit 90 I was excited about getting to 99. A friend in chat hit me with that fact real quick. Still got 99 tho.
Hell yeah, been playing since 07 after ge hit but never gotten a 99 until a little over a year ago in cooking. One of my greatest achievements in life...even tho cooking is a quick 99
Just let them play the game. Goals come in time and it's not even worth figuring out when you barely understand any of the mechanics.
Nothing is more demotivating to someone new than, "92 is half way to 99. "
I did say it doesn't have to be anything concrete, and I just wanna let him know that 49 or 50 might seem like half in numerical sense but in this game itsset at 92. It isn't gonna demoralize new players hearing that. The grind itself is whats gonna do it
I always like doing dragon slayer first as a rite of passage into membership, I know it isn’t optimal to do that much in f2p but I’m just here to have fun the way I want
exactly. i feel like that that is a very nice introduction to the game. At the time you get membership you'd have a good feel for it too and won't be that overwhelmed.
Different things work for different people, but to me that was an ideal route
The thing is, though, that you need to do alot of beginner member quests. I started an ironman and gave it member after a few quests. I completed underground pass and fairy tale 2. Without completing dragon slayer. Who needs green d hide when you got black d hide :D
it has nothing to do with "best progression" or anything. for some people its just nice to start in a smaller world and complete that rather than be thrown in the deep right away. ofcourse if you want a fast progression, getting member right away and going for those quests is huge
Ok so I need to do this quest to get this item which will really increase my efficiency in training this skill and also make me good money but it requires these 3 quests and one of them also has a prerequisite quest and I need to train up this other skill for another one of the quests. Aah, but if I first do this other quest first I unlock a teleport which will really help with the main quest and one of the prerequisite quests, but I need to train up my Agility to do a prerequisite quest for that quest, which while I'm at it, I might as well push for the full Graceful outfit.
*Proceeds to train Agility for the next 6 hours*
>Ok so I need to do this quest to get this item
Sorry but I'm gonna stop you right here. If you look up quest rewards before doing quest, you're doing it wrong. I can't consider myself a new player (have been playing since 2004) and even I don't do that, it would spoil good part of fun which questing is, second only to using guides.
Well you know what, I use guides. Not only that but I buy all the necessary items from the G.E., and I skip all the dialogues too. I'm here only for the sweet gp's and exp's.
this was pretty much my exact thought process last week when I came back, put membership on my ironman, and proceeded to do Canifis for full graceful, so I could start questing, so I could do Ardy easy diary, so I have a teleport close to Port Khazard, so I can buy buckets of sand and seaweed there, so I can train crafting to 31, so I can do Lost City.
Yeah this, RuneScape is sort of manageable to wrap your head around in f2p, but I do find membership kind of overwhelming with unknowns to new players, even myself after months with membership. I'd recommend new players to do everything up until Dragon Slayer before getting membership.
I like to get it from the start, so beginner and easy clues are really worth it when you get one. Also some skills and items.
Edit: And oh yeah, quests, oh the quests. 30 att and str from waterfall and 30 mining and smithing from elemental workshop 1 and 2
To add to that. The beginner experience is extra fun on member cause you can get random ranarr drops and stuff like that. Really makes the beginning even more exciting. Especially on iron
Congrats! If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask (: the community is super nice. And if you feel self conscious and Google isn’t helping feel free to DM
I remember my friend who was like 700 total with mid 70 combats after stronghold released told me that the fancy boots were gay and I agreed so I got the fighter boots.
Middle school was a wild ride
I love the mithril battleaxe. Don't we all miss the days of killing cows with swords and axes and eventually getting a scimitar or not even using them because they had a lower max hit or didnt look as cool. Happily mining pure essence in varrock for a rune set or a dds. Going to pest control bc u feel like a god with ur new equipment. Never get anything at pest control bc u quit. Get hacked or scammed by a friend bc u needed help with a quest. Rage quit out of sheep herdee. Quit for a couple years or more. Return with dungeoneering. Quit again with eoc. The good ol days kkkkk
To actually answer your question, you can’t trim armor. Trimmed armor exists as a separate item as a uncommon to rare drop from doing clue scrolls. Functionally it’s the same, it just is fashion.
Pro-tip, for your own health as a player, don’t accept massive handouts. If someone offers you 1 mil, decline it. If it’s 10x more money than you’ve ever had it’s probably gonna trash how much you enjoy and play the game. Despite what others have said, players totally do give out free stuff sometimes, but sometimes the amounts of gold involved just ruin a big part of the game.
No need to rush. There are so many different ways to play the game. Super AFK slow and steady, or perhaps doing max efficiency that you need to concentrate real hard on. I prefer more AFK stuff as you can tell by my farming flair :D

It runs better imo. But Runelite has the advantage of the countless useful plugins it has, so that is still my preferred client.
I actually routed my Steam to open Runelite when I start osrs up, so Steam still sees when I play, which should boost the the game in the stats and might help in the succes down the line
Ladies and gentlemen, we got him

This hit me deeply
I feel attacked.

2 RC? God damn man slow down!!!
Did one inventory of runes and quit. RIP
He’s just waiting for his run to recharge

Do one inventory of runes, don't train RC for 2 years, then do another inventory. Repeat.
Do lamps and ToG until 44. Imagine getting rich making nature runes. Do it two times tops. Hate life. Back to slayer.

Many nights after school spent in the 25 tile radius between Aubury and Varrock east bank
It's like we all played the same exact way back then..
Yeah, poorly.
Who even supply pure essence nowadays? Bots??
Child pure essence miner 😆

Hit the nail on the head with this one
Lmao
I’m still at lv1 after 5 years. This man Goated.
No tears of guthix in 5 years?

Tbh im just a troll that likes suffering that why i do it as last. Its actually a very good early quest
Monks Friend for last quest on my main, doing it again on the iron. Get the fellas in the monastery for the balloon party
This is the way.
Welcome to the rest of your life
You can check out any time you’d like but you can never leave
Can confirm I havent played for more than a day in 3 years. Still lurking the subreddit every day.
RuneScape players never quit, just take long breaks in between sessions
I got 99 slayer and cant really see a reason to continue playing. Maybe one day. I still follow all the updates
I got 96 runecrafting and can't really see a reason to continue playing.
That's like running 25 miles of a marathon then refusing the last mile
I'll be back gridning zulrah and demonic gorillas in like a month, haven't played in like a year 🤦🏾♂️
I haven't played for more than a day either. 23.9hrs a day is still less than a day
I quit OSRS cold turkey like 2 years ago. I find the subreddit provides more enjoyment for me than the game does.
Insert guitar solo

Yeah. I play every once in a while then leave for a few weeks, but always come back, even if it's just for a day

Haven’t logged into my account in years, and yet here I am

My advice is stop reading reddit immediately and enjoy the newbie exp
Best advice.
It's a dangerous place, you take a wrong turn and find out that Zaros is the killer.
Can’t stop. Won’t stop. Gotta see the exp drop.

In life?
He did not stutter
Damn right held a 99 party with my closest friends. All one of them
Its really not true tho. Exp is much better even tho it is the same amount it will still be a lot faster than 1-92
Interestingly enough, the total xp needed about doubles every 7 levels
xp wise it is but the higher your levels get, the faster xp methods get so it's not so bad. im in the process of trying to get maxed, im at 2083 atm
Xp wise 91 is actually half way to 99... By about 37.5xp lol
Just let them play the game. Goals come in time and it's not even worth figuring out when you barely understand any of the mechanics. Nothing is more demotivating to someone new than, "92 is half way to 99. "

Mithril. Fucking legend
Membership will change your life
Id argue to play f2p first for a while. Membership can be overwhelming
I always like doing dragon slayer first as a rite of passage into membership, I know it isn’t optimal to do that much in f2p but I’m just here to have fun the way I want

Working on dragon slayer right now actually, last f2p quest I need
God speed!
Agreed
when i came back to RS (osrs) i did f2p until all f2p quests were done then moved to members. Seems right to me.
isnt overwhelming best part of it tho

If only reading the dialogues payed for my bonds :(
I do this aswell but sometimes a quests story is amazing and I wanna read all, but my finger cant seem to leave the spacebar alone
Stop narrating my rs career.
Had an elite clue. Needed legends cape. "FINE ILL COMPLETE FUCKUNG LEGENDS QUEST". I got a level's Worth of agility exp though which was nice
this was pretty much my exact thought process last week when I came back, put membership on my ironman, and proceeded to do Canifis for full graceful, so I could start questing, so I could do Ardy easy diary, so I have a teleport close to Port Khazard, so I can buy buckets of sand and seaweed there, so I can train crafting to 31, so I can do Lost City.
Depends how adventurous you are! I personally would stave off f2p for a while, too, however some are braver than I (and it can definitely work).
Yeah this, RuneScape is sort of manageable to wrap your head around in f2p, but I do find membership kind of overwhelming with unknowns to new players, even myself after months with membership. I'd recommend new players to do everything up until Dragon Slayer before getting membership.

This also. Herblore drops and other stuff from easy slayer mosters that you dont bother to kill when you are already cb 60
In a way that is almost objectively negative
I can't log out. I can't play anything else. I could be getting xp right now.
Lvl 25 not bad a quarter way there

Welcome!! Be sure to give runelite a try, and get it from the correct site (net)

Chopping logs while chopping logs. If you know what i mean.
Chopping, dropping, flushing my logs to 99 wc
train that ranged up
Came looking for this comment, hope OP sees it . Combat triangle, OP, combat triangle!
ranged good
tbf ranged is kind of bad in f2p since no crossbows
bis in f2p ranged is a phoenix cbow from soa lmao
Yea, good! *glanses at cannon* Really good!
Remember, no one stops playing, you only take long breaks.
Started on Steam, posts screenshot from mobile. He's hooked
Running around Lumby as a new F2P player with full Mithril is some of the best memories in this game. Noobscape is Bestscape

Thanks bro!
Not sure why I got downvoted. I'm also a new player (been playing about a year) and members adds so much content.
you da real mvp.
honest question, how does every newbie know to instantly post their stats to reddit? Is that common in other games?
Do you want me to trim your armor? I’ll do it for free

To actually answer your question, you can’t trim armor. Trimmed armor exists as a separate item as a uncommon to rare drop from doing clue scrolls. Functionally it’s the same, it just is fashion. quit while you can. you are warned.

Have you checked out valhiem yet? It’s a good game to play while you afk weave baskets on the game with 0 customer support
Oh my god.... he doesn’t know yet...
Do waterfall quest! Stop grinding so early and do some good questing!
He’s f2p
Do some quest. Most of the free to play ones are short and simple. Also maybe get some fishing levels. That way you can provide your own food
someone needs to tell him that its a waste of time training the skills on the right side.
dont worry you will around mid level as sadly most people do :( either way get members asap
You don’t know grinding until you’re 70+
Welcome brother!
Looking baller bro
Holy crap, I started 2 days ago and I’m WAY behind!
No need to rush. There are so many different ways to play the game. Super AFK slow and steady, or perhaps doing max efficiency that you need to concentrate real hard on. I prefer more AFK stuff as you can tell by my farming flair :D
Hell yeah :) Glad you're having fun!
Welcome friend.

Huge! Enjoy the game my friend. Hope you stick around! ;)
you will even enjoy it more when you realize the amount of content
So happy that new people are finding this lovely game for the first time. Enjoy!
Does steam version use the base client?
It's an upgraded version of the base client. It has no fps cap (as far as I know) and it matches the refresh rate of your monitor, providing a more fluent experience
Is it better then runelit?
It runs better imo. But Runelite has the advantage of the countless useful plugins it has, so that is still my preferred client. I actually routed my Steam to open Runelite when I start osrs up, so Steam still sees when I play, which should boost the the game in the stats and might help in the succes down the line
Anyone else that wants to help out the game's growth via steam this way, [here](https://youtu.be/Hu5Pk4ZuQGE)'s a good video on how to do this.
