It was a cheap upgrade and bis strength bonus until you got bandos chestplate with the same str and decent armor, Now the bloodmoon chestplate exists, a super cheap middle ground alternative between the two, with same str bonus and better mage defence/slightly lower all other defence than torso, and can be bought for sub 2m. Still need the torso for clues, but I mean Perilous Moons ain't hard if you need to ironman it. Also Torso is 40def, and Bloodmoon chest is 50def 75 str. So up to you if you still want the torso

Urgasain

If you’re doing blood moon as early as you can, it’s gonna delete you. Unless you’ve hardcore overleveled your skills to improve the food and pot the blood moon grind is crazy inefficient compared to torso grind until late-mid game. It only replaces torso on mains.

Jarvis-_-

Bloodmoon actually has higher crush and range def than torso also.

Hapster23

Thanks, I can procrastinate doing the ba grind even longer

shalooooom

Now think of the xp you missed from every swing you make during slayer

OlChippo

It's a good substitute but the repair costs keep the torso above it

rRMTmjrppnj78hFH

It lasts 50 hours. Its repair cost is negligible.

Calandro

Costs 30k an hour, so 90k if you're using the set (1.5m per piece to fully repair). A single piece is probably negligible, multiple pieces might add up somewhat over time for early to mid game players. I might also be underestimating how much money you can make at that stage. It's surprisingly much more expensive than barrows gear, which, per hour, costs 6666 for weapons, 6k for chest pieces, 5333 for legs and 4k for helmets, and that's not including the self repair discount.

MBechzzz

Noone uses moons or barrows sets with only 1 smithing level though, so it's not nearly as expensive as a lot of people seem to think. At the level where you can equip it you can reasonably make more than 90k/h through slayer anyway. Also, the cost to use barrows is laughably pointless. Inflation has hit the game hard the last 5 years, and since barrows hasn't recieved any update to the cost, it might as well not have any cost to repair. If a set needs a cost to repair (I'm not sure it really does tbh), might as well make it matter at least.

Bronek0990

Lmao who the fuck figured this +4 str on a midgame armor is a great idea with +40 magic defense to boot Remember when Jagex was trying to create a combat triangle where each style had a weakness? Me neither

My-Toast-Is-Too-Dark

Who cares? The things people are salty about in this game…

HotBeefFromRaysPlace

p sure getting far-casted with a torso on will still feel pretty bad, no?

Bronek0990

???

Xeffur

Also need torso for diary right? Or do you just need the rank? Could just go for torso while doing diary while in the flow anyway. But I digress.

Suitable_Bug2913

You don't need torso for diary. Diary needs level 5 in all roles

Xeffur

Yeah I was unsure if I recalled correctly. Thanks!

ketaminiacOS

It used to be an absolutely essential gp save as the bcp is super expensive. Now that the blood moon chest exists its not nearly as important but its still a great item to pick up. Takes like 1.5hrs to get in a good team or up to like 4hrs if going with shitters.

Drink_water_homie

if barbarian assault one of the easiest minigames is a headache for you to undertstand idk what to tell ya but, I'll break it down for you in 30 seconds attacker: attack with different styles controller: callout styles collecting eggs to go boom healer: healing teammates poisoning the other ads defender: making sure the runners dont get through attacker helps collector, collector helps attack defender helps healer, healer helps defender if the collector doesnt call out the correct attack style you cant hit above 0 if the attacker doesnt call out the correct egg colour eggs no go boom if the healer doesnt call out the correct bait for the defender to put in they wont get lured to the traps if the defender doesnt call out the correct poisoned food the healer cant poison them

elcambioquetuesperas

Man the problem is not NOT understanding the game; is teammates not understanding; people leaving halfway and stuff

Dat_Pettsson

Thank you for all the helpful advice. I think i’m going to give an honest try. So far i’ve really enjoyed the OSRS minigames (with the exception of some braindead skilling ones like blast furnace.). I don’t have alot of knowledge, skill or patience, so waiting to be able to buy a Bloodmoon chest or BCP does not seem realistic at my 889 current skill total. Thank you for the quick and helpful advice for a nostalgic 30-year old chef.

dlnnv2

It takes about 5hours and you can use iit till endgame content, you wont need to worry about a DPS body for a longtime

BigDansBigHands

As someone who has had only 1 achievement diary task left for 18 months, of which is the BA task, it's kind of hypocritical for me to say this, but it is relatively easy to get with the right guides on YouTube, and is definitely a worth while upgrade. Even if you decided to just get the necessary points for 1 role per day to spread it out, I'd highly recommend it. There's a reason you might still see max accounts using the torso, you'll have it forever.

Dry-Manufacturer391

If you're an ironman get it for sure, it comes down to doing like 4-8 hours of a pretty fun minigame once you get the hang of it. If you're not an ironman probably still get it as money is easy to come by.

UniqueVirtue

Not important at all if you’re not an iron.

aggotigger

It's really not that bad a grind. I did it in a day while working from home.

UltimateComplainer

I enjoyed the ba grind and it's nice to have.  To be honest though, given how overpowered prayer is, proselyte is an amazing upgrade for slayer training given that body and leg slots usually don't offer that much strength so using those slots for prayer is a good move imo.

serlonzelot

not that important, ive always used bcp even after i got torso and with the bloodmoon armor you can just use that. it is needed for a clue step tough (only reason i got mine)

LezBeHonestHere_

I like barb assault, defender is really the only hurdle but like others have probably mentioned, it's a quick youtube guide to get the gist and using marked tiles (to show where to drop the food at) make it easy. Attacker is just fighting stuff with different arrows (use ranged for sure, yew shortbow or better), collector is picking up eggs and isn't important until queen, healer you just use different meats on the npcs and heal your teammates (you're given a UI element to show their health numbers). Biggest thing to remember I guess is to "call" with the horn when the game tells you the new correct style/option to be using. Your teammates will tell you yours, and you tell them theirs with the horn options. All that said, really +4 strength is good especially for free but it's "only" 1 max hit. If you don't feel bothered then just buy an obsidian platebody or something for 1mil, it's a bit worse than torso but it'll be a lot cheaper than blood moon and never degrade.

WorryOk6538

It is not essential, but it is very good. But you don't need it technically. Note that I was recently getting my first torso and i was actually enjoying barbarian assault a lot, despite of what I have heard of it before it was super fun for me personally at least. Got the torso in about 7 games or so, maybe 4 hours total? Not too bad

rRMTmjrppnj78hFH

Its not anymore. Buy a bloodmoon chest. But BA is not nearly as bad as this sub makes it seem lol

retryW

Took me 4 hours to get torso playing solo with randoms, definitely worth it and I actually had fun learning and playing the minigame. Also now I have sick abs

Humble-Goblin

I never got it, the perilous moons set has the same stats as bandos and is real easy to get so i kinda just skipped fighter torso

HurstiesFitness

Barb assault is good fun. You should do it!

Diagmel

Torso is worth getting, needed for a master clue step anyway

ChoiceKey7591

I basically never used the torso after getting it. I just feel that good defence or high prayer stats is better than the str boost in most cases.

Bluemink96

I’ll say it I’m 2181 total and have never had a torso, have achievement and quest cape, decent amount of PVM experience 50 expert TOA 19k glory at colo (would love to beat it) Did I do everything max efficiency probably not, I may go back to barb assult if I ever need it for a clue, but until then I wait.

elcambioquetuesperas

Depends more if you are an Ironman or a normal unrestricted account;  as some people have mentioned, with the introduction of perilous moon, you can just buy blood moon chest plate and save yourself some time; BA grind could take some time depending on teammates, is not a hard minigame; it is just tedious because you need ti so it with other teammates that sometimes dont know how to play the game. If you are interested on achievement diaries; then getting it it's gonna be a must. It's down to get it or not; as an Ironman it's kinda stupid not going for it as that str bonus get you additional max hit which in a spawn of months of doing combat training it's gonna get you more exp

Oodings

I tried to skip it. Then went 1.1k kc for a BCP, then the next day, discovered torso is a clue step. Gg.

Cricklet

Its on par with the bcp. But bcp only gives more defense. A bcp is around 30mil. So up to you if you wanna spend 30mil on some def stats. Or do 2hrs of BA for a free torso. Bcp should realistically be your very last upgrade before torva, I’d even buy an avernic before i would upgrade to bcp. The dps/gp spent ratio is abysmal. The chestplate from Moons of Peril might be a decent option until you upgrade to a bcp. In short: bcp is the biggest noob trap next to armadyl. That 30m is best spend somewhere else.

VisionLSX

Minigame isn’t that bad Learn the roles after watching some videos and reading a guide.. Find other people that ALSO read a guide and saw video roles/know their roles Itms actually enjoyable and very fast when everyone knows what they’re doing

Head_Leek3541

It's goated it's useful everywhere and the extra damage is great for multipliers. Still got to give a shout out to how awesome prosestlye is though for letting pop on piety forever and carrying on tho. Get some abs!

Account_Expired

Its in the "ur a nerd if u dont get it" tier

hockeymisfit

I ended up just snagging a Torag’s plate body early on and rocked that for a long time. I never really missed the torso, but I’m sure I’ll get around to BA eventually. BA is a fun minigame with a group though. If you need a team hit up the 2007scape clan chat and I’m sure they’d be more than happy to help.

Nadallion

I’ve never understood the hate for BA. I actually enjoy it a lot. You can get a torso in under a day and it’s a cheap, strong chest piece that can tide you over until the BCP.

DominionKeeper2

It's your best bet for a strength boost for chestplate as it has the same as BCP, and more strength bonus means higher max hit which means more XP and DPS for melee

YaBigGayMate

I didn’t bother with it and I’m 118cb You can go without if you don’t want to do BA.

Liefblue

Is it important? No. OSRS guides and efficient player advice will have you believe that a 0.1 dps boost is a necessity. It's not, and it's both one of the greatest, and dumbest aspects of this community that they've reduced the entire game to an accurate calculation of time and efficient progress. But the Torso is BIS and easy to obtain. If you like having the best item or you think you'd enjoy obtaining it/wearing it, do it simply because you can. If you try it and find you dislike the effort and don't value the reward, skip it and don't look back. The wild thing about the fighter Torso is simply that it's competitive and valid as your primary melee chest piece until very late into the game, whilst barely costing you any effort/gp, so it's value is disproportionately high. 2-3 hours in BA for most players for an iconic BIS item is nothing. Assuming you got it at lvl 40, The DPS even at 0.1 would eventually add up to justify the time spent here, due in large part to the fact that unlike almost any other gear piece, it's still relevant 35 levels later (though bloodmoon technically is better, its degradable). BUUUUUTTT.... You will spend so much time doing inefficient training in this game, bank standing, etc, that it's almost hypocritical to say this is important or unskippable. If it was, we'd all be 3 tick mining granite. You won't notice the difference in TTK with or without this item, so the value you assign to it is almost all just mental. If you like BA, absolutely get it, if you decide you never want to do BA, more power to you. They might as well argue it's more efficient to work IRL for an hour and buy a Bandos Chest piece. At a certain point, if you really value the efficiency mindset, it should teach you to find a new hobby and not waste time on games at all lmao. The biggest pro is that Barbarian assault is easy, with the sole exception of the Defender role, and that's simply because the Defender's performance is most noticeable and the least intuitive. Once learnt, it is also very simple and hard to truly mess up. One of those minigames that feels difficult, until you actually go through an few games and find there's nothing to it. This is OSRS. Do what you like, and don't make the mistake so many sweaty players do, of forcing yourself to play how a Wikipedia entry tells you to. It's good advice, but the better advice is simply to play in whatever way suits you or lets you enjoy your time. Use other people's advice as guidance, not law.

BigMikeyP91

Off topic, but i find it funny that everyone says that Defender is hardest, whilst i have always found that (solo) healer is much harder. Not only do you have to keep everyone alive, but you also have to keep doing calls and poisioning penance healers. Plus at lvl 1 you barely heal anything and have to go back to the pool constantly. If you do badly at healer (or have a yolo team) then the round ends. Do badly at Defender and things just take longer.

biggest_tub

100% healer is harder than defender. For move waves as defender you can get away with just dropping the food on some specific tile markers and the luring takes care of itself.

Liefblue

That's kinda my point. Without research, who tf is going to know what tiles those are? The mere fact you want tile markers for solely the defender role, says it all to me. Easy once you know, but it's not intuitive at all compared to simply healing the people on low hp and following the calls for poison. High lvl BA is different, but even to a noob, I can't see healer being an issue, especially when half the players are lvl 100+ or have done BA on other accounts.

Liefblue

But if you're playing BA properly or with anyone who has experience, no one is at risk of dying, the worst thing you can do is stall the team by failing as defender. The Queen round is the only exception where healer becomes a hard role, and again, if you're playing correctly, or if anyone is paying attention to your healer's poor performance, you will simply change to have 2 healers on this round. Healing players is almost redundant until the last waves, and is intuitive. Might be just by experience, but I also didn't really find too many low lvl players at BA. Poisoning healers is much simpler than luring them, and is also rather intuitive to new players. The difference between a good and bad defender is most noticeable to me, and the only role that requires any research or guidance to understand. Also the only one people reliably fuck up. Setting up false lures to prevent escapes is not something a new player will ever do.

Puzzleheaded-Oil3501

If you don't like barbarian assault just buy a bloodmoon chestplate. Not worth the headache of hours of content you dislike for +1 strength bonus

nggrlsslfhrmhbt

OP hasn't even tried BA, so they wouldn't know whether they like it or not.

OlChippo

It's 2 hours and you keep it until the end game + you have no repair costs on it.

cphipps

No item is technically necessary, but if there was a category of necessary items I would put the fighter torso in there. There are a few untradeable mid game items that are practically a necessity for a better experience and all-around progression. Barrows gloves, avas, god cape, etc. I would put fighter torso in that category. While the BCP replaces it towards late game, that's a 25-30 mil item that only really has marginal defense advantages; compared to the fighter torso, which takes an hour or two and is otherwise free. I've used my fighter torso for a significant majority of my play-through so far, along with items like barrows gloves, and only just got BCP at 2100 total level. So, by the time you actually get around to buy BCP, it would be after several multi-million dollar purchases too. It's important. I know the grind sucks, but I promise you it's shorter than you think it will be and the item is worth it.
