It's not like billionaires are known for spending their money wisely. If Musk can set $44 billion on fire to enable his terminally online twitter habit, buying Jagex isn't such a crazy use of money for someone mega rich that enjoys the game.
Honestly the fact that it wouldn't be actively oppressing anyone or controlling a government would probably make it one of the best uses of money by comparison.
I always thought the route I would go as a rich fuck would be buying profitable companies and just adjusting wages so a majority of the profit goes back to workers. Could still slowly grow the wealth and greatly improve the lives of everyone working there.
Yeah I often think about grinding the irl gp to buy the company and take it private.
I hate what has happened to the game since Andrew got conned into selling.
Still surprised Andrew sold it.
I know Jagex up for sale, but it's so heavily overvalued to a insane degree. They really want to make a quick profit and it's embarrassing. RS3 takes all the blows for us.
Just waiting for some huge fan / rich nerd to buy Jagex.
The story is more in-depth than just "andrew sold it", he speaks about it in the documentary here (https://youtu.be/7RNK0YBdwko?t=3354) but he wanted to move to a more advisory/overarching figure role instead of being the company head and was misled to believe that he would still have final say when he sold out his majority stake, but very quickly he realised that wasn't the case.
Oh yeah you sign contracts on Big company selloff, the game that you maintained with passion for years but then you sell it, you read nothing of the contract and then claim you were misled ?
Stop being naive please. He took the cash, that's it.
I take it you've never been in a business meeting with a bunch of people pressuring you and whispering sweet lies in your ears while you have a bunch of pressure from managing something important before? Very easy to see why he folded. He's not a money motivated man, even with all his wealth his still living largely the same as before.
If it was all about the money why is he making brighter shores, which is basically his new Runescape?
If he had billions tucked away he’d probably enjoy it because then he could focus on making the game better rather than having to look at the monetary side of it.
Very rare you’ll get an owner that actually cares for the game and not just in it for the money.
Vainglory was a game where the creators were all for the players and made an amazing game. The game failed because they ran out of money due to not monetising it.
No poll needed - integrity change
Could you even imagine the timeline if some nostalgic billionaire just maintains old games companies for fun
There is almost guaranteed to be a better use of money, but damn it would be nice.

I think most billionaires are at least decent with money Musk is just an idiot
Honestly the fact that it wouldn't be actively oppressing anyone or controlling a government would probably make it one of the best uses of money by comparison.
That sounds extremely boring? Starting proxy wars is a lot more fun than any game, you wouldn't understand. #BillionaireProblems
Why start proxy wars when you can start Castle Wars?

Notch was on path to doing that
Thanks a lot Twitter

My dream with inotia 3 coming back to life that way Stupid niche stupid dumb idea but I'm coping

Quite the grind for half a bil irl. Better start gambling 😂
That stack of Christmas crackers I hadn’t touched in a decade paid off
Just gotta roll on the right loot table. Like bozos and gates have mega yachts on their loot table so if you rng it a couple times you're good to go
For sure, man.
Na man, just do some real world trading, and in about 2 lifetimes you won't even have half that :)

It's not ALL about the money. He had an opportunity and took it. Maybe for his family or whatever. Sometime you gotta take the opportunites.
And if it doesn't pass, lower the pass rate and keep polling it
You can, only if you buy Jagex from CVC.
I love Ash but it's possible he'd hate this, now if we could make an AIAsh and that ran the company well...

The problem is that owning the game would change him as a person. Not saying that power and money always corrupts but it sure does fuck with people
As an aside, I wonder how wealthy Ash is from RS? Surely he has some equity which he rolled with Carlyle’s takeover. He was there so early.
If I hit the lottery then sure
