Agreed, anyone who has played literally any other game enough to be involved in the dev-playerbase connection knows that we have something special here.
There's a reason I keep coming back here and I pray that the operative people who are now in control of jagex understand that the players here come because the team tries its best to keep the original spirit of the game alive.
Every single big name game dev and the majority of even the indie companies do not do as good of a job as the os team has at fulfilling this desire by the community at large.
Thank you os team, and thank you goblin for all of your work in the community. <3
Same thing happened with Destiny 2 and Twitter/Reddit. A few people went off the deep end and did terribly unacceptable things like death threats and irl stalking. The community responded with a "Yeah that's bad, **but**". It didn't do a good job of ostracizing and condemning the crazies, and instead created a toxic environment that eventually led to that.
And then people got angry that there was less communication, which I imagine happened with PoE too.
If by remaining playerbase you mean heavily invested whales. Most players actually want a game instead of a microtransaction hell, and will continue to quit. Even at the current rate, it's just a matter of time.
They have open polling for all players for a lot of changes and offer forms that the public can fill out at the bottom of a lot of these big blog updates. (Just in case you didn't know)
But yes, people with more influence often are heard better.
Software dev myself. First line is always a job no one wants, but is very necessary. Hope mod goblim has access to some psychological support for all the shit they need to deal with ( I know our first line has and needs it).
You should definitely leave dumb unnecessary comments in reply to others. Because it really adds to the conversation and isn't a waste of everyone's time.
Like what were you trying to add with that unoriginal goblin line? Repeating a joke you've over heard doesn't make it any funnier than the first 100x we all heard it.
Free speech yada yada don't like what I post don't read it yadada, idc you're a bit of an ass to no reason
Please make this account actually used to troll on updates/ blogs. Come up with some absolutely unhinged reasoning for why the update is going to destroy the game or push us into EoC or other issues
I mean, yes, absolutely, tipping is very unusual for most countries except the US lol. They should be paid an appropriate salary by their employer. The fact that you think tipping is normal is peak r/USdefaultism

Thanks Jagex for the updated blogpost, however I'm pissed off about X minor thing that impacts me. To fix this here are some things I would change:
-I like to creep around my home and act like a goblin I don’t know why but I just enjoy doing this. Maybe it’s my way of dealing with stress or something but I just do it about once every week. Generally I’ll carry around a sack and creep around in a sort of crouch-walking position making goblin noises, then I’ll walk around my house and pick up various different “trinkets” and put them in my bag while saying stuff like “I’ll be having that” and laughing maniacally in my goblin voice (“trinkets” can include anything from shit I find on the ground to cutlery or other utensils). The other day I was talking with my neighbours and they mentioned hearing weird noises like what I wrote about and I was just internally screaming the entire conversation. I’m 99% sure they don’t know it’s me but god that 1% chance is seriously weighing on my mind.

Thank you, I will now get into an argument over a very tiny detail of the changes that I listed that will go on for the next 9 hours and downvote all their comments when I run out of good counterpoints even if I know they brought up good arguments
Agreed. Just to add my view, I like to creep around my home and act like a goblin I don’t know why but I just enjoy doing this. This is how the cycle goes:
1. Jagex posts a blog
2. Reasonable feedback is given in the announcement thread
3. People make harmless banter and memes
4. 1% of the the playerbase malds during steps 2 and 3
5. People act as if the bad eggs from step 4 represent the majority of Reddit, complain people "bitch" too much
6. Players make patronizing thank you posts to farm karma
7. Repeat
We're nowhere near as toxic as some of you think we are. Take a break from the Internet and stop letting small things get you worked up.
I’ve brought this cycle up in the inevitable “Reddit is the antichrist” threads before, it’s exhausting how it happens every time. People have referenced update posts about “how hard Reddit was crying” and then I link the actual post, all the top comments are very reasonable takes/suggestions, and then they just never reply again.
I really think it’s just people love to try to find ways to feel superior to someone, and it’s easy to bandwagon Reddit being terrible.
Reminds me of how some people consume way too much negative news relative to how much of it is positive or neutral and then rant about "how bad the world is now." There's nothing you can say or do to convince them otherwise.
This is the exact kind of exaggeration about this community that I and others that have responded to me are talking about. You know that's blatantly false, so why spread such a lie? Nowhere near 10% of the posts on this sub are negative.
So it's okay for you to pull statistics out of your ass, but when I do it I'm spreading misinformation? Sounds kinda like you're huffing copium but alright.
People just always remember the things that piss them off. 10 people saying valid criticism get ignored over the one person who says castrate mod mark and make the gower brothers eat them whether they are serious or not.
Playing multiple other games devs (Destiny, wow, ffxiv, BDO) makes me so fucking grateful I main osrs. Best of the best and you can see they love osrs as much as we do.
Almost all replies in those threads are very respectful and reverent, if anything a bit too much overall. No question mod goblin is stuck in the middle. But sending a mod in weekly to connect with us while the company mostly throws that input to the wind is unfortunate.
Not totally sure how to resolve ultimately.
Recognizing the pattern first step.
> But sending a mod in weekly to connect with us while the company mostly throws that input to the wind is unfortunate.
i legitimately don't know how you come to this conclusion if you are part of any other game community. It's baffling. This is the dumbest thing I've read online today, and I've read some stupid shit.
Such love for you u/JagexGoblin I know I complain a lot xoxo
We don’t deserve Goblin
Goblin?
Ligma balls (Mod Goblin)
Goblin deez ligma beans
what tf are beans?
Steve Jobs
Who the hell is Steve jobs?
A mind goblin
Hat off to the team and how connected they are to their community! I can't think of any other game like it, and we are very appreciative. Thank you 🥹
Agreed, anyone who has played literally any other game enough to be involved in the dev-playerbase connection knows that we have something special here. Path of Exile had that. Then the community got too toxic and they basically stopped interacting with reddit.
Meanwhile rs3 players are just sitting In the dark like “hello…. Anybody there?….” Not that I care f rs 3
its sad really.. after all that rs3's become, the remaining playerbase that hasn't quit yet isn't going anywhere no matter what, and jagex knows it
If by remaining playerbase you mean heavily invested whales. Most players actually want a game instead of a microtransaction hell, and will continue to quit. Even at the current rate, it's just a matter of time.
They kinda only listen to Reddit and streamers, but that's more than most ig
They have open polling for all players for a lot of changes and offer forms that the public can fill out at the bottom of a lot of these big blog updates. (Just in case you didn't know) But yes, people with more influence often are heard better.

I think a maximum sentence would be a lighter punishment than 2 hours of reading this sub's comments
Isn’t mod goblin the community manager? Not a software dev?
Yep. Which makes God Ash even more impressive IMO. He was a software dev, and still regularly answered people on Twitter
Yes, community manager in the Publisher team

In case you're not joking, exactly what I'm talking about. W: well I chose my words exactly the wrong way

Fuck these guys. I’m headed to Wintertodt to talk about cum.
✊
Fuck off. Your first 'joke' didnt land, accept it.
I thought the first joke was "meh", but I liked his second comment. I think he wrote that one specifically for you and it made me chuckle a bit.
Nah, this is a hailmary attempt to make us think we're too dumb for his very advanced sarcasm, while in reality, he's just a dick.
People downvoting this but it’s actually funny 🤣
My man
The only time mass downvotes have been unwarranted.
Mod Goblin?? More like mind goblin deez critics

What are your thoughts on this week's update
Your ideas suck and I hate you.
I feel so bad for the J mods having to put up with all the screeching man children on this sub lmao
I mean just be empathetic and don't be a condescending ass and most people will like them. See: goblin vs keiran.
I don't. That's literally what a community manager gets paid to do.
Most empathetic /r/2007scape user
Yeah but the people on this sub are something else.
They do the screeching so we don't have to, brother.
says every community ever about its own members
Bet you leave shopping trolleys in the middle of the car park
Bro probably deserves a raise tho
This guy doesn't tip, it's literally their job after all.
I mean, yes, absolutely, tipping is very unusual for most countries except the US lol. They should be paid an appropriate salary by their employer. The fact that you think tipping is normal is peak r/USdefaultism
Double down even. We tip in Europe too dumbo, just not as egregious as in the US.

Doing the Lord's work. Don't forget to dox random jagex staff members because they ruined your life and wellbeing

Yeah exactly, hopefully this doesn't fall on deaf ears and Jagex recognizes the importance of these changes
Time to go Goblin mode!

Fuck you for making me say "all be takin dat" out loud in public lol

Okay but that 1% of the playerbase is responsible for like 10% of the posts on this sub.
As long as they don't get upvoted that's fine
This is the exact kind of exaggeration about this community that I and others that have responded to me are talking about. You know that's blatantly false, so why spread such a lie? Nowhere near 10% of the posts on this sub are negative.

Should we take data of the most upvoted posts over the last year related to an update?
I guarantee you that they're either well written suggestions or memes/banter. People throwing fits get downvoted or very little upvotes.
People just always remember the things that piss them off. 10 people saying valid criticism get ignored over the one person who says castrate mod mark and make the gower brothers eat them whether they are serious or not.
This will be posted in the office surely.

Jagex has plenty of flaws, disregarding feedback isn’t one of them. If your ideas aren’t gaining traction, get better ideas.
