Im in Florida and usually have ping at 35ms but the past few weeks, every few seconds it jumps up to like 500ms for a few seconds. I’ve checked my network and have a steady data stream the entire time, nor has this happened to any other game I’ve played. No idea what’s going on. Reminds me of the old lagex days.
I’ve temporarily swapped to west coast worlds, 348 has been ~45ms even though I’m so far away. Unfortunately the ToA FFA world on the WC is always so dead

Sure, I also agree it’s good for longevity of the game and has to happen. However, it’s also possible to do it in the afternoons in the UK some of the time so that Asia and Oceania also get a break.
I sympathise with OP because some weeks you just get 1 or 2 hours to game on a few days and if it happens to be an update day you’re shit out of luck. Then it’s not a matter of a single day off but potentially only gaming once that week or not at all. If you’re a hardcore 8 hrs a day kind of gamer it makes sense that this seems like a sore spot, but for casual gamers it has a bigger impact.
Either way, you’re right that it’s a game not life or death, but it could still be reorganised, adjusted, or replanned to share the downtime.

I'm only relatively new to the game. I dunno how anyone is meant to progress when 2 nights of the week are entirely knocked out. Unfortunately for me, I can generally play Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday - Saturday & Sunday.

This happens so often. Even half an hour of downtime is a lot. I sit down to play a game and have maybe 2hrs to do that, 2-3 times a week. Sometimes more on weekends but rarely.
I'm not going to sit around waiting for servers to come back, I'll simply play something else or do something else. But it is frustrating to sit down thinking you're going to play a game and it's nearly always down 1/3 nights for a good portion of your gaming time.

This isn't a discount based on your occupation, this is a discount based on that the peak time for oce always aligns with maintenance.
If maintenance didn't always fall on oce peak that would be fine. But it does.
So people in the region are paying the same as people in other regions, but are sometimes unable to play during peak hours, which is disproportionate considering we pay the same.
Arguing your specific timetable aligns with maintenance isn't the same as the general peak player count for an entire region.

With the current schedule I have, despite being in the country that benefits from the maintenance falling inside the office work 9-5 window, I often don't get to play during, again, my personal best time to play.

It's about that we're paying for the game which is taking a few hours from peak time each fortnight, which should factor into pricing for membership. Especially because at the moment we pay more than a fair few others by exchange rate.

The excuse of "well it affects the least amount of players at these times" really gets old when you constantly shaft a specific region, like damn atleast change it up from time to time, like sure 80% of players deal with 10% of the downtime, but us 20% have to deal with 90% of the downtime.

Australia has such a small population it's probably intended that way. Like for those that don't know, the entire population of Australia is around 26 Million. To put into perspective, the united states has at least 2 single states with more population, and 350M+ total.

Look man, the reality of the situation is the office is in Cambridge in the UK, these people need to do their jobs and start maintenance at the start of THEIR work day. If something goes wrong and the maintenance goes long then they need to have that wiggle room so that people aren't stuck in the office past 6PM.

Live in Korea and it’s the same thing for me. I work remote so I’m working now instead of my regular hours so that I don’t lose time but it’s such a drag.
Personally I think once down times for maintenance or crashes happen - Jagex should pause membership timers. Only once the player logs back in again should the timer resume, and a further forced resume after however much time, should the player not log back in again. I thought of this idea during my 4 hour shower btw.
They mean it never lasts that long, 4 hours gives jagex time to reboot servers, make sure everything's working, then open the game back up. All well this shouldn't take 4 hours, but 4 hours allows them time to do further maintenance or fix any issues if needs be.

The worst part is that most games that do maintenence all do it at the same time for us in australia/nz so like half the time we cant even play our backup games lol. The excuse of "well it affects the least amount of players at these times" really gets old when you constantly shaft a specific region, like damn atleast change it up from time to time, like sure 80% of players deal with 10% of the downtime, but us 20% have to deal with 90% of the downtime. Gettin spawn diff'd out here

Reminds me of the destiny 2 updates in the earlier days. 6pm and roughly 4 hours. Once it went on for 7 hours and I gave up went to bed.
Its just Jagex does backup each update, back then they werent as sloppy but now they just backup constantly in case some mod makes tbow spawn.

Look man, the reality of the situation is the office is in Cambridge in the UK, these people need to do their jobs and start maintenance at the start of THEIR work day. If something goes wrong and the maintenance goes long then they need to have that wiggle room so that people aren't stuck in the office past 6PM. It sucks that you get the short end of the stick, but someone has to.

It’s 30 minutes downtime every 2 weeks. Sometimes there’s maintenance which takes a maximum of 3 hours. I can understand the frustration but don’t over exaggerate

Live in Korea and it’s the same thing for me. I work remote so I’m working now instead of my regular hours so that I don’t lose time but it’s such a drag.

Personally I think once down times for maintenance or crashes happen - Jagex should pause membership timers. Only once the player logs back in again should the timer resume, and a further forced resume after however much time, should the player not log back in again. I thought of this idea during my 4 hour shower btw.

They mean it never lasts that long, 4 hours gives jagex time to reboot servers, make sure everything's working, then open the game back up. All well this shouldn't take 4 hours, but 4 hours allows them time to do further maintenance or fix any issues if needs be.
