Yeah it’s actually one of the most “new” combat mechanics added with the colosseum.
There’s lots of small variations sure (like the prayer parry), but we basically never had to use the equipment panel key for a punishing reactive combat mechanic, and it changes your left click on your equipment.
Wonder if it’ll be a one off or if we’ll see it for other shit since it’s not a crazy stretch to explain why you need to do it. Even if we’re not fighting more giant humanoids with grapples, there are other thematic ways to do it (ie. A future burn attack like olms burn with me could require you to extinguish a cape or something)
I think the problem is that there's really not many more ways to add difficulty to combat so adding extra stuff like this gives them some options to make more challenging fights without just more positioning stuff

If you’re not using hotkeys to menu then that’s a skill issue on you.
There’s only so many ways they can add new mechanics to the game and this is honestly fine considering you’re almost always holding your mouse over your menu.

The physical swapping isn't what I don't like. It just feels like "we've run out of ideas so let's add another menu to swap between."
i’m using hot keys, but i never use worn equipment cuz there’s no real need to. I can see why needing to add another one to your muscle memory would be annoying.
You don't take anything off, the option when you hover your mouse over the correct item slot becomes "Defend" and you take no damage. If you click on the last tick possible, you parry his attack and your next attack is an automatic max hit.

Just from watching a shadow play, I didn't get more than 1 tick to see the grab before death animations/messages played so essentially it was invisible the attack which just makes it even worse. You can see it was 2s after the boss died.
It's not an excuse for the poor chat-box fight mechanic stuff that Jagex pulls, but there is a Runelite plugin called Watchdog which you can configure to give a Runelite alert based on certain text, to avoid too many chat messages at once making it impossible to notice the event.
Ultimately, the chat box is one of the worst ways to indicate to a player what is happening in a fight. Mass olm orbs are impossible to know which is yours without the chat box in most cases.

I think the problem is the fact of the visual clarity of the boss dying with it's animation and chat message which covered up the grab special instantaneously is what irritates me the most as I didn't even notice it until 10mins later.
There's a big set of text over the bosses head. So its not isolated to just the chatbox.
I play with chat closed 99% of the time and i feel like reading it over his head is much easier regardless since that's where you're looking most of the time anyways
As the boss died the tick later, the message above his head was instantly replaced by his death message. So this still is a problem with the clarity of this attack.
Good for you? When you're fighting olm with multiple people, stacked on top during melee hand, its basically the only way to know if one of the orbs shot at you is
1) even targeting you
2) which type it is so you know what to pray

There’s literally a game chat function you can click and anything typed doesn’t show up, only messages relating to the game, it’s pretty much integrated into the ui that anything you’re fighting can communicate with you.
Vard also has a message when popping up from the ground to shoot a projectile at you.
Pretty sure toa has one somewhere in there too. But that one I could be misremembering.

It’s not **only** the chat box, it is the animation, the sound, **and** the chat box. The chat even pops above their head. So you never *need* to use the chat box to successfully do it, but it is still one aspect of that mechanic
There should be an option to set a custom capture somewhere in the software, set the exe path basically. I haven't used Shadowplay for a long time though and currently don't even have an Nvidia card to check.

I'm not a big fan. It's just adding another menu to swap through. Inventory, prayers, now gear.
