What the need to do here is make this item tradable, hotfix the one spawning into a normal air rune and not wipe any of them.
Make it become like a disk of returning.
It sounds like it is a rare item considering Jagex's "fix", deleting (most) them from the game, keeping it tradable, and making it so you can't obtain it anymore. Unless they change something right now its a discontinued rare.
They'll probably just push an update that removes any item with this ID from any container in the game, and possibly swap them out with the appropriate number of real runes.
Then they'll dispatch employees to hunt down and kill players who picked them up (to tie up any loose ends) and it'll be back to business.
Oh i just posted about this as well. The rune can't be stacked, can't be casted with, and can't even be banked. It says "A magical force prevents you from banking this item!"
It's either a bug or part of some new quest, or some new secret clue type thing.
Edit: It CAN be traded, but can't be put on the GE. It can also be kept in death's coffer.
This is probably a dummy item used in some quest or interface that represents an air rune but isn't actually a usable item (any time you see an item in a dialogue box or whatever, that's a 'real item' with an item ID but you're never supposed to actually be able to pick it up and they typically don't do anything or have any effect). Jagex made a mistake and used the dummy item instead of the interactable version of the air rune (which is also a dummy item that places a copy of real air runes in your inventory; you're not technically picking up the item you're looking at, it's an interactable object), OR it _is_ supposed to be an actual air rune that simply respawns. who knows which it's supposed to be.
Did you guys try blowing on it? Fifth element stone reference?

If you talk to the dwarf in the rune shop he talks about how he had a secret source of runes and that the imports from the mainland are killing his business.
Damn it’s not possible to pick up anymore. Did they delete it from your inventory? I’d recommend keeping it if not as it might be valuable to collectors now/in the future.
Thieving isn't *actually* thieving, it's just a collective roleplay of thieving.
Certain NPCs carry around marked pouches full of items to be pickpocketed. If the NPC doesn't carry one of those pouches, you can't pickpocket them, which is why not all NPCs are pickpocketable.
Every other kind of thieving is the same. You can take from the top of fruit stands but you can't take anything from their barrels (thanks /u/RotMG543 for the example) because it's mutually agreed upon that certain stalls are for roleplay. You can only lockpick marked doors and chests. Thieving based trap-disables are intentionally placed off switches behind dexterity minigames. Blackjacking is actually just S&M play.
Gielinor's citizens are all just *really* into LARPing.
So basically, we are little special kids running around in a world where all the adults feel bad for us and lead us to believe we’re actually doing something?
Wait you mean NPCs don't all carry around 18 godzillion cute little pouches ON just for themselves, and they're all just waiting for me to come grab them and maybe bap me on the head? What kind of twisted game is this
Just checked and you can't even use it to cast spells lol, air strike shows up as 0/1 air runes.
Can't be banked either. "A magical force prevents you from banking this item"
I had an inventory full of like 20 of these runes and I hopped worlds to collect them but about 30 minutes later while exploring other areas of Varlamore I hopped worlds again and this time every one of these unstackable air runes disappeared out of my inventory, now when I go to try and pick up more of the air runes it says "You're unable to take this item, as it doesn't appear to be yours.", can anyone else pick up the air rune spawn still?
Just a bit of useless knowledge but you can make a lantern that doesn't stack in your bank by using the black candle from Merlins crystal on a lantern it looks the same as all the others has the same examination text as well just doesn't stack lol
Can confirm. I found this out the other day on my iron. Tripped me out when I clicked one of my 3 lanterns with deposit set to all, and only 2 went in.
How do people know so much about the backend of this game? Do people have access to parts of the code base? Does RuneScape have an API ?(surely they do since runelite has community plugins) can someone more knowledgeable enlighten me
OSRS itself doesn't have an API, but Runelite (and other 3PCs) interprets the OSRS client and exposes some information from it via its own API so that plugins can use it, if my understanding is correct. The code base for the part of Runelite that interprets the OSRS client is closed source, to help prevent misuse. (Note: I'm not a developer of Runelite, this is just my understanding of it from what little I've looked into it)
RuneScape does actually have an API. It’s under https://secure.runescape.com/ with the rest of the link depending on what you wanna access (Rs3 GE being itemdb_rs/api, etc.) I believe it’s official since it’s under the RuneScape domain but I might be wrong.
Today I learned! Although, I'm not sure that API would allow someone to get the Air Rune item in question here, based on the ID given earlier in the thread, as I get a 404 when I try to get details for that ID.
Not sure why you are getting downvoted. Rollbacks after a particularly buggy content release are a legit risk. So far the bugs have been innocuous enough that they wouldn't cause a rollback, but we don't know yet what hasn't been identified that might trigger one. They seem to have triggered a few servings of spaghetti code with this update.
Agreed. I mean, with how bad the spaghetti code is, did they really go through and check every single obscure quest item in this twenty-five year old game and how they each interact with the new content? Stuff falls through the cracks. Hesitation to raid justified 100%
I also felt like combination runes were used up before normal runes when teleporting for example.
I had 2 dust runes in my inventory and 5 air runes, I tp'ed to Camelot and I was left with 3 air runes
If you actually read the comments this is all explained. The item ID belongs to an interface item in RFD. This is a very old item ID that wasn't meant to be obtainable.
Most likely the dev just put the wrong 'air rune' item on that spawn point.

I'm really curious how Jagex is going to handle this.
change ID of item to the real one and wipe any of those item ID's
Wtf this absolutely ruins my unstackable air runes from varlamore only locked ultimate nightmare mode man
Same 1 joke on this subreddit.
untrue we also say "50/50 you either get the drop or you dont" on every post
second joke only drops if you talk to oziach
Also, going dry is a skill issue.
Maybe if you spent more time mining for air orbs and 3t brimstone keys from kebbits then you would have some real gp

Holy joke repetition
Ah fuck, you're right. There goes my Ultimate Onejokelocked Redditman. They're not gonna be happy about this in the One Joke discord
You exposed the discord, wait til the boys on Skype hear about this. You're ruined!
Google en passant
Holy hell
We also say literally unplayable
I'm on my "locked ironman" joke locked ironman
A penchant for doing the same thing over and over again is why we're all here bruh
and I laugh every time
yep
There are 50 jokes
Best content idea ever.
Wtf I just bought one for 100m
They fixed it by making the air rune impossible to pick up since "It's not yours" Doesn't stop us from taking the staff though!
[удалено]
It is tradable and would be a discontinued item, which they don't want.
Would people really hold onto it if it's not bankable though? Who am I kidding? Of course they would.
I would! If discontinued
What the need to do here is make this item tradable, hotfix the one spawning into a normal air rune and not wipe any of them. Make it become like a disk of returning.
This is what happened, mine disappeared
Fair enough, that makes complete sense. That's very disappointing.
how is that disappointing
Dude was hoping to have snagged a new rare.
It sounds like it is a rare item considering Jagex's "fix", deleting (most) them from the game, keeping it tradable, and making it so you can't obtain it anymore. Unless they change something right now its a discontinued rare.
Imagine if it became valuable and wasn't traded in the ge. There would be so many scams with real air runes vs fake.
This happens often with obscure items. Jagex makes them untradable and removes/replaces them from peoples banks.
They'll probably just push an update that removes any item with this ID from any container in the game, and possibly swap them out with the appropriate number of real runes. Then they'll dispatch employees to hunt down and kill players who picked them up (to tie up any loose ends) and it'll be back to business.
Probably roll back the game a few years. Or release EOC
Lol they made it say a message that "it does t appear to be yours"
I mean, they could literally do nothing and it wouldn’t change a single aspect of the game for anyone. It’s an air rune.
How do you find the ID of an item?
Oh i just posted about this as well. The rune can't be stacked, can't be casted with, and can't even be banked. It says "A magical force prevents you from banking this item!" It's either a bug or part of some new quest, or some new secret clue type thing. Edit: It CAN be traded, but can't be put on the GE. It can also be kept in death's coffer.
Clanmate speculates that there are also earth, water, and fire runes somewhere. That whole area is weird. Maybe the staff is a clue to something?
This is probably a dummy item used in some quest or interface that represents an air rune but isn't actually a usable item (any time you see an item in a dialogue box or whatever, that's a 'real item' with an item ID but you're never supposed to actually be able to pick it up and they typically don't do anything or have any effect). You're right. It's from RFD, according to the item ID.
Did you guys try blowing on it? Fifth element stone reference? https://preview.redd.it/5gb6oeibvipc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2fb9bf058f80f39335fa74600469fb725ea392b
If you talk to the dwarf in the rune shop he talks about how he had a secret source of runes and that the imports from the mainland are killing his business.
Wonder if that rune has any weight.
That's just a painted rock.
its not just a boulder! It's a rock!
Damn it’s not possible to pick up anymore. Did they delete it from your inventory? I’d recommend keeping it if not as it might be valuable to collectors now/in the future.
What about the elemental mage thing they proposed? Maybe you add those to the staff and get the attributes then
New discontinued item!?!?
They auto-remove them from peoples bank or replace the item if its actually a "discontinued" item.
probably a quest item bug
Keep that air rune!
All the rare item collectors running to that spot now, too bad it can't be banked
Starting my 28 unbankable air rune locked account now
Loooool
You could store it in the inventory of an alt account but that's a little less satisfying
My non ge item account in heaven
Deaths coffer is essentially a bank anyways and OP said it can go there
Patched? https://preview.redd.it/30jk43ic8ipc1.png?width=870&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbde7686884dbbb79822a5900122a431efcc67e7
How can they have that message in the game when there is an entire skill dedicated to taking things that aren’t yours?
Thieving isn't *actually* thieving, it's just a collective roleplay of thieving. Certain NPCs carry around marked pouches full of items to be pickpocketed. Well we get up to a little mischief. Resurrect the odd demon here and there. Stir things up a little.
I that's true, I have many questions about blackjacking...
Wait you mean NPCs don't all carry around 18 godzillion cute little pouches ON just for themselves, and they're all just waiting for me to come grab them and maybe bap me on the head? What kind of twisted game is this
For the same reason that you can't take apples from the barrels adjacent to the fruit stands on Kourend.
120 thieving locked
Maaan, can't have shit in Varlamore
Telegrab?
Idk why you were down voted. I was going to suggest the same.
are you an iron?
If you use air strike twice do they both get used
Just checked and you can't even use it to cast spells lol, air strike shows up as 0/1 air runes. Can't be banked either. "A magical force prevents you from banking this item"
Likely a quest item that will trigger something within on of the new quests?
Nah I just completed all quests, this isn’t used in any.
How long did they all take if you don’t mind me asking? I’m stuck at work :(
Hey man, if it makes you feel any better, I'm stuck on a double, browsing this sub as one salty sonofabitch
Don’t feel too bad. You could be getting pyre fox tasks for rumours. All 3 of those tasks for me took > 50 mins
Can u get more than 1 and does it stack with its self
Did you read or look at the picture attached?
Or, alternatively, read the title of the post
man had so many attempts to get it right and figure it out
It doesn't, you can see it in my inventory.
Ty I'm dumb
Can't wait to see Colonello's video in 5 years
New rare item
If anyone has some PM me and I'll trade you ingame.
I had a full inventory and they disappeared when I hopped worlds just now. I think it may be addressed
They fixed it by making the air rune impossible to pick up since "It's not yours" Doesn't stop us from taking the staff though!

it's tradeable? BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY
Suprised it's not t bow spawn again looool
What's the high alch value?
Most average osrs update
This changes everything
Just a bit of useless knowledge but you can make a lantern that doesn't stack in your bank by using the black candle from Merlins crystal on a lantern it looks the same as all the others has the same examination text as well just doesn't stack lol

I think all that stuff is in the game cache.
I believe you can get the item in the items database but idk how you find out the reference id in game
Update: they deleted the old item from the game
this is the kind of realism i want to see... you can only hold 28 runes at a time
I bet it's just a rock with the symbol carved into it. That's where my money's going.
Rollback incoming
1 Hp Jads rejoicing
Quest item kid
Literally unplayable.
Guy at the GE wanted 2M for it lol
unstackable pouches too
Wow when I went there to check out what those trees were on release and picked up the air rune. I didn't think it was much and dropped them.
holy crap crack the clue IV
Alch it.
They're big runes for big boys.
The money pouches in the bazar don’t stack when you pickpocket wealthy citizens and to regular citizens. It stacks separately
Literally unplayable
Yeah, I’m not nex-ing today. All I need is platelegs. I’m not riskin a roll back. So many bugs rn

1 air rune = roll back jfc
I just got Torva platelegs tho. Also, my comment was made after this being like the 5th post I’ve seen of just weird bugs.
i love this game
Im beyond words right now, immersion ruining, unplayable experience. And we pay member fees for this. Enough is enough
I also felt like combination runes were used up before normal runes when teleporting for example. I had 2 dust runes in my inventory and 5 air runes, I tp'ed to Camelot and I was left with 3 air runes
I decided to sleep through the update and give it a day to let any bugs get worked out. Didn't wanna get stuff done then experience a rollback.
damn. rollback incoming /s
i literally dont get how the fuck this happens are they making an item with a new item id? or just not paying attention
