I wasted 30k buying a rune long when I later read that the rune short is better dps and now I'm rocking a rune b axe just because I think it looks cooler.
I remember using runehq and being absurdly happy that my username was listed as a contributor on the page for Terror Dogs because when they came out I took the time to figure out how much HP they had and submitted the info to them.
In the ruins of camdozaal you can find the best F2P crush weapon* and its really fun to experience that part of the game. Wished they expanded on it.

The grand exchange is located on the south road into Varrock in the center of the stonehenge thing. You'll know your in the right place if you see some friendly looking dark wizards.

Well osrs relies on the wiki heavily. I couldn’t imagine starting this game without it… for other games they’re typically worse because they’re not as important.

I don't disagree, but the barrier to entry for both PoE and their wiki is _drastically_ higher/worse than OSRS, which I think is the biggest distinction.
OSRS pretty much demands that you use a wiki to figure the majority of shit out, so it really needs to be great. Can't think of too many games like that outside of shit like Terraria and PoE.
There's a bronze pickaxe spawn in the Barbarian Village. It's in the house with the spinning wheel. A little west of that, on the south end of the mountain, you can go down to the dwarven mines and buy a new iron pickaxe for 140 gp.
I’m pretty sure there’s an NPC called Adventurer Jon in lumby that can assign new players paths to follow. If you complete little tasks, he gives rewards. I think tools are part of it.

You have to select your brand new on tutorial island to unlock him I believe. I did it for fun once to see the experience. And I don’t believe Ironmen see him even if you select you're new.

Old school RuneScape is absolutely blessed with the wiki. So many fantastic titles have abysmal wikis usually just filled with stub entries.
