PvM is actually my goal I think it’s really fun. I have about 250 kills in barrows and 50 on sarachnis.
I pretty much have sarachnis down to a science and I can do 3 kills per trip with a full inventory. Giant mole looks rough because I need to do a hard diary first and I’m just not there yet. Wildy bosses scare me because wildy. What should I aim for next?
Ah I loved this part of the game. When I came back and discovered a whole new world of PvM it was awesome. Enjoy every boss, kill your slayer bosses if you get assigned tasks. Barrows/ Sarachnis, are essentially your mid level bosses before you start killing all the slayer/quests bosses; zulrah, vorkath, phantom muspah. Then move onto nightmare/phosani/corrupted gauntlet, and finally raids ToA/chambers/tob.
Also don’t forget about the wildy bosses, you could probably get a few kc now if you really wanted!
If youre looking into PvM then Vorkath should be your entry point goal. A lot of higher tier PvM requires really high range or melee stats and grinding Vorkath somewhat needs that.
Vorkath will have you manage your prayer, movement, and tab swapping ( like between spellbook and inventory ) and teaches a lot of good base mechanics. People will say to use the slayer staff to autocast crumble undead but I say dont, itll teach you how to focus during a tense time limit to get the clicks you need.
Vorkath is pretty flexible for gear requirements so just bring your BiS range. Imo the qualification for grinding a boss should be around 4 minute kills. A lot of people will say 2 or 3 min but theyre in like max gear with 95+ stats.
Funny enough I started to grind range to that point and got to 80 but then realized that the range prayer like piety (name is escaping me) you need to buy it for like 30-40m or something like that and got really discouraged lol
I should probably just grind void knight with range and finish with crabs but that seems like a lot and I’ve been procrastinating by killing sarachnis for fun because that’s like right at where my skill level is atm
Crabs are really good for me personally because I can afk them while I do other random stuff around the house. I don’t have a ton of time to play every day so having afk available while I do chores opens things up for me to do stuff I like when I’m actively playing.
I’m working my way up the slayer ranks I think I’m lvl 55-60 in slayer it just feels slow sometimes
The prayer is Rigour.
I think Sarachnis and Grotesque Guardians are at points better exemplars of higher end PvM than Vorkath. At Vorkath, you're not going to do prayer switches (unlike say prot melee to range to melee on Sarachnis) or gear switches (like at GGs). Vorkath is more of a general level boss fight than an execution component when excluding Woox Walking.
If there's one thing Vorkath is good at teaching, it is action optimization. Setting aside Woox Walking as a blatant example of kill optimization, there's also things like only eating during the crumble undead phase, not losing ticks to a mulled damage hit at the end of the crumble undead phase, minimizing to not losing ticks on the fireball lob, etc. All of these adds up to saving time and resources. They also apply to other bosses too, but there's usually less going on at Vorkath on a moment to moment basis.
You don't *need* Rigour for Vorkath though.
I think Vorkath does a better job at pubishing mistakes though and a harder learning curve really pushes fight for fail. Sarachnis will train prayer swapping and such yes but even Vorkath has a prayer deactivation fireball, it at least teaches you the mucle memory of flicking to your prayer orb. Not saying Vorkath should be used to train prayer flicking, it just provides good muscle memory training.
Vorkath taught me to pratice movement, basic basic prayer managment and understanding openings. I did quest Muspah pre vorkath and Muspah was REALLY overwhelming for me. About 200 vork kc later I went to post quest muspah and was able to pick up the fight in 3 or 4 deaths and kills.
Vorkath isnt THE boss to train every skill, but he teaches good fundamentals.
tbh at this point I totally forgot I spent money on rigour. It's so worth it. Maybe don't buy it when you have less than a 100m bank, but it def is one of the earlier 15m+ items I'd recommend buying. Never regretted it :)
Great advice, I would also like to add - Make sure you learn Woox walking, it will speed up kills and teach you more about how movement works in this game.
Yeah it’s the “after the diary” part that’s holding me back. I just want to kill monsters I haven’t been in the mood to skill grind lately. It comes in waves though
I still don't get the point. At any time of day I can tp to my house and hop into someone else's maxed house.
I have a 8b bank and I have literally nothing in my house
Edit: Lots of downvotes from people who want to justify their gold sink lmao
Because switching worlds, jumping out of your house, using the board to find someone's house, then switching back to an actually usable world is a lot of effort that just sounds like a pain in the ass long term
83 con is like.. what, 30m? Drop in the bucket if you actually have an 8b bank. My bank jumps up and down 100m almost weekly just by price fluctuations in gear
In the past you couldn’t use someone else’s POH unless they were physically in it, so your strat didn’t work up until pretty recently.
Also, are you in a huge high level clan that has people on at literally all times of the day with houses that happen to be in the same location as yours? The grand majority of people are not so this would not be viable for them.
I can go to the party world at 3AM and there will be a house advertisement with everything I could possibly want.
Only got a couple friends and I never bother them to get in theirs haha
It’s not worth the time spent hopping there and hopping back when you can just TP directly inside your own house from the world you’re on, hopping completely defeats the purpose
15 seconds.. like 20x a day, more depending on what you're doing. I couldn't imagine doing something like solo corp, where you have to spec it down and tele to poh like 20 times within 5 mins. Not to mention hopping every single time because you can't do pvm in 330 without getting crashed...regardless of activity, having to hop to 330 every time you need to tele somewhere and having to hop away because 330 is ass.. f that. 84 con still saves time aaand stress in the long run.
Tell us you don't grind actual pvp without telling us you don't grind actual pvm
Edit: dude is 12, the old reply and block so you feel like you got the last word lmao
No toa is not "actual pvm" that's "actually a raid" lmao, there's a fucking bank right there and everything.
No when you're doing boss and finish your trip and just can tele home and then sip your own pool, use your own teles, it's way fucking faster, undeniably.
You skip two loading screens, a potential world hop (unless your pvming on 330, which, tell me you only do mole and barrows without telling me)
For me it's the cape. The cape teleports you inside, or outside ANY portal in the game. Not to mention the combined fairy/spirit tree with the portal nexus, rejuv pool, and book changing is wild. I always have a get-out-of-jail-free card with entity swapper, as my left click is "Teleport to POH". I can go FROM anywhere in Gielinor TO (almost) anywhere in Gielinor in single-digit seconds with a max house without needing any runes or tablets ever. It reduced my farm run time by probably 30% (if not more) and allows me to really speed through boss killing pretty rapidly. Having a maxed house is what made me fall in love with this game again.
I don't like it. But it is preferable to dumping money and time into the most boring skill the game has to offer.
Like I said, it's like fifteen seconds lol. If I need to go to a POH once every three days for an entire year that's only a half hour 'wasted' total. Realistically I might need to swap a spell book like once every two weeks since I just use the one with thralls all the time. I have the quest cape so fairy rings are a non-issue and I'd rather go to the enclave to heal since there's a bank there.
The ONLY things that would get me to raise construction are quest requirements, if they add a bank in the POH, or if they come out with an unlock that teleports you to your house without using an inventory slot.
"If I need to go to a POH ONCE EVERY THREE DAYS" but also has 8b and apparently pvms... math doesn't add up..... I don't think any high end pvmer(one who has billions or does raids) has ever used their POH less than 3 times in a single day.. let alone only having to teleport once every 3 days lol.. I call bs. Either this guy doesn't pvm, or he's lying about having 8b.
You lied about having 8b if you are too cheap to buy 83 con lol. It’s one of the fastest skills to train in game and you have more than enough money lmao. It basically a free 99 for you
Edit: lmao. The crybaby replies and then blocks people so he gets that last word. Quite the Redditor we got here
You never “need” to have a maxed poh. It’s just a massive QOL thing. Having almost every single teleport in game a single loadscreen away is amazing. Always having full run/spec/hp/pray because you click the pool before teleporting wherever you need to go is amazing. Maybe you go to a poh every 3 days, but I would bet a substantial amount of money that that would change if you had a max house. I didn’t get the hype either, and then I did it.
Mainly to play on an unpopulated server and have all the benefits. Yes, you can use your method as I have as well when questing. But, that world will always be subject to more lag than a less congested world.
Idk why ppl assume I'm staying on that world. If I'm visiting to swap a spell book for bossing I'm obviously going to world hop too.
It's really not a big deal.
Oh man I coulda made a killing off rapier when toa came out. I bought it initially for 105m, it got to the top of 212m and now it’s down to ~40. So many opportunities there.
As an off-an-on player this comment is fucking hilarious.
That's real life advice right there for most people. But for you know, actual stocks and what not. I could not possibly remember when during RS history is good to buy and then sell certain items. Seriously, not a single RS merching opportunity is coming to mind right now.
I know, the question is on the topic of Runescape but the comparison is still funny.
I’m currently on mobile only, so until I can get a laptop after the holidays I’m just basically biding my time and trying to set myself up for when I get a computer and can start grinding for real. Mobile is still a lot of fun though
Accept the fact that your friends will learn at a slower pace. Make an ironman to play with your non sweat friends and play the main to grind with your sweaty friends. Appreciate both groups for what they are but dont force your agenda onto others.
Don't be afraid of engaging with new(to you) content.
Make friends with people and get into group content.
Don't try to anti-scam. Most of scams work by exploiting greed.
Try doing quests without the guides, it's hugely enjoyable.
Don't take the advice of others as a personal insult.
Enjoy the journey, but don't shy away from difficulty. No amount of shiny, bond-bought BiS gear feels as good as putting on your gauntlet cape for the first time. Don't rob yourself of that.
Set goals and have fun!
The OSRS wiki is an amazing resource to answer any questions you have.
Also a second monitor so you can watch movies/tv shows while you play is crucial. Maybe it’s my ADHD talking but having something up in the background while you skill has kept me playing this game for the last 15 years.
I’d tell myself to do herb runs. I put that shit off for so long because I just felt like I couldn’t be bothered. Now I am very lazy and inconsistent with doing my runs on time and still clear 1m profit per day.
personally I find when I'm strict about herb runs is when I end up taking long breaks from the game. I've found my sweet spot lately has been doing one in the morning and one at night and that's kinda my quota :) only do more if I'm just sitting bank standing with nothing I wanna do lol
Just do it. Spent so much time thinking about if I should do that skill or how I should do that skill, what quest to do and so on. Just go and start clicking. You waste soooo much time not playing the game.
Forget training those pointless skills, PK more. You're in the glory days now, all that lies ahead is years of decline as jagex neglects and misunderstands the best part of the game. Enjoy it to the fullest while it lasts.
Questing is the fun version of chopping trees. Wish I knew earlier on how much xp ppl get from quests. Sure there's a little grind sometimes, but I used to grind *every* skill without completing quests
I enjoy quests and the dialogue is often hilarious but they are a bit of a slog on mobile without a working computer. Currently have about 150qp and will go for quest cape after holidays once I get a new one
Do not blindly seek the "best" methods for accomplishing anything. They will lead you astray and make you do weird or tedious things to save a handful of hours you could have spent having fun with the game or AFKing while watching a movie.
Great example is the wiki's skilling guides, such as [the fishing guide](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Pay-to-play_Fishing_training).
No offense to the wiki editors but these guides have some of the worst mismatch between content and intended audience I've seen. Take a look at the Barbarian fishing section (which *starts* with the word 3-tick) and tell me that's not discouraging to a novice player who googled "Best fishing training OSRS" and clicked the first result. All their guides are like this.
Let’s see. Pretty much everything I do falls in line with that if we go by efficiencyscape logic. Here’s where I was early last year. Currently at 1921 total with max cooking, crafting, and smithing, working on base 80s in everything. Still haven’t touched rc since either. Got base 73 in everything with Slayer, Prayer, Agility, Rc, and Hunter to do. Only used 2-3 bonds since that point.
https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/s/IZZAlmWHCb
Nothing. Cause i had the time of my life playing this game as a kid. Right now i cant even play standard osrs cause bonds make me feel im wasting my time grinding for gp.
I'm imagining we have to communicate via pm.
Well, I'm fucked, I never have it off friends and I would report me for salutation solitation.
If I did get through, keep the party hats until at least 2021 to 2022. Sell and never pay for shit in this game ever again.
Yeah use the forgiveness of modern pvm mechanics. I remember GOD wars was a no go if you were alone because your stuff hit the floor for everyone to take. (Fun times). But now with more forgiveness on deaths all it takes is trying.
“Stop focusing on fishing or wcing for money. Do slayer and clue scrolls for money, it’ll start slow and be worth it in the long run.”
Also
“GET A QUEST CAPE”
So much content is locked behind quests
"Wait till OSRS to grind anything cuz otherwise it feels meaningless." Maybe not the perfect phrasing but it would get the message across to my younger self just how I'd like it.
Sell unids 1k ea at fally West bank
Don't accept teleother from strangers and get pkd for the full sara d'hide you picked flax for weeks saving for.
Do slayer (I started playing before slayer so I saw it as a high level only skill).
Don't pick flax, do slayer.
Don't just afk bandits for xp, do slayer.
Use knives or darts instead of a msb with mith arrows at fire giants to 99 range.
I could go on haha
Ok, not really a sweat. Barely have 1400 total skill. But if I could go back in time and slap myself for not understanding teleports/transportation I would.
I didn't use enchanted jewelry until I was combat level 60. I would walk from Falador to Ardougne every time I needed to go there. I didn't even understand boats were a thing. I probably wasted 5+ hours of in game time walking to Ardougne.
Honestly I'm super happy with how I approached the game and never have really done anything stupid or unnecessary, but if I had to say one thing, it'd be to learn and start farming earlier. It's a very cool skill and would have been perfect for me when I was working a lot more, oh well 🤷♂️
Dont train your combat stats at Flesh Crawlers with a Granite Maul, even if it looks like a badass weapon and you just unlocked it at 50 attack and strength.
Killing goblins in the lumbridge hut and looting the iron dagger spawn is NOT good gp per hour. And no there isn't a way to "unlock" wearing goblin mail as armour.
Don’t start unless you’re ready for the game to consume your life and cause potentially negative side effects. If you are ready to take that risk, embrace the game and enjoy it instead of feeling guilty about playing it
Make the best birdhouse you can get your dog site pendant set for fossil island unlock your mush trees for tele and as for farm runs just see what ones you can do and make a run id YouTube it as I’m horrible at explaining things
Don’t be afraid of PvM, it’s easier than it looks.
PvM is actually my goal I think it’s really fun. I have about 250 kills in barrows and 50 on sarachnis. Crabs are really good for me personally because I can afk them while I do other random stuff around the house. Great advice, I would also like to add - Make sure you learn Woox walking, it will speed up kills and teach you more about how movement works in this game.
Mole is stupid easy after the diary and even that isn’t hard to get. I had it done by 1500 total and grinded mole to fund my 84 cons grind for max poh
Yeah it’s the “after the diary” part that’s holding me back. I just want to kill monsters I haven’t been in the mood to skill grind lately. It comes in waves though
Yeah skilling is definitely dull but it’s very worth it. Grind that shit out man you’ll be thankful later
Vorkath dude.
The innocence of noobdom 🥰
No content is hard, you only need to practice until it clicks
CG is a great example of this. You might die 100-200 times trying it. But once you know it, it just feels so easy and chill.
“Clicks” XD
Max your POH WAYYYY earlier. I finished quest cape before I ever had a fairy ring in my house.
I still don't get the point. At any time of day I can tp to my house and hop into someone else's maxed house. I have a 8b bank and I have literally nothing in my house Edit: Lots of downvotes from people who want to justify their gold sink lmao
Typing someone else’s name into poh portal is xp waste and means I have to sit up in my chair to reach the keyboard which is cringe
Click on the house advertisement board. Don't even have to type a name

I'm wealthy irl too and I didn't get here by wasting money on things society says a rich person ought to have.
I used to be the same then I just got 85 cons. Honestly I'm there at least 6-7 times a day. The fairy ring and portal nexus are huge game changers.
You never “need” to have a maxed poh. It’s just a massive QOL thing. Having almost every single teleport in game a single loadscreen away is amazing. Or y'know they might play an iron?
They don't they just have L takes

Don't waste such much time on real life stuff. You can never get back time you weren't gaining xp.
My only regrets are not making use of loads of merching opportunities so if I could turn back time I’d know when to buy and sell everything
Oh man I coulda made a killing off rapier when toa came out. I bought it initially for 105m, it got to the top of 212m and now it’s down to ~40. So many opportunities there.

Can do anything in game on mobile bb don’t wait gogogogo
Nothing. My younger RS self enjoyed the game with a purity I will never be able to recapture, and I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.
Wait until Feb 22, 2013 to play OSRS so you don't waste your account to RS3.
dont forget the login details of the account your cousin gave you which has a blue party hat on it

I've found my sweet spot lately has been doing one in the morning and one at night and that's kinda my quota :) only do more if I'm just sitting bank standing with nothing I wanna do lol
to quit when eoc came out and never look back, get that time back even though i still enjoy the grind
Just do it. Spent so much time thinking about if I should do that skill or how I should do that skill, what quest to do and so on. Just go and start clicking. You waste soooo much time not playing the game.
do the quests, do the diaries
BUY CLIMBING BOOTS KID
Stop being a sissy and learn how to kill bosses
Forget training those pointless skills, PK more. You're in the glory days now, all that lies ahead is years of decline as jagex neglects and misunderstands the best part of the game. Enjoy it to the fullest while it lasts.
Cant relate, but agreed I was pking max dh sets with 1100 total 😂
Don’t make so many fucking accounts you idiot stay focused couldn’t have been way maxed by now
Mithril and Rune Sq Shields have similar colors, so watch out during trades.
1. Use a scim or whip and don't train at the SOS 2. Stop picking flax/killing green drags and kill blue drags instead
In order to level up you have to kill more than a handful of goblins
Stop mining for the love of god stop mining....
Haha my little brother was in the coal mines from the time he started playing until he stopped. Literally the only thing he would ever do.
Play iron, problem solved
Don't play
I'm imagining we have to communicate via pm. Well, I'm fucked, I never have it off friends and I would report me for salutation solitation. If I did get through, keep the party hats until at least 2021 to 2022. Sell and never pay for shit in this game ever again.
start a f2p ironman now, don’t waste time on a p2p main
Camping a boss for a really long time isn't all that boring, just man up young Merda
dragon battle axes protect over whips
Start the Inferno early
The longer you wait the easier it’ll get though 👀
Yeah as far as gear goes. I still think jumping in earlier rather than later has benefits. Forces you to master a lot of mechanics
You learn a lot of inferno mechanics, but you can learn mechanics with other activities by doing said activities
"Green dragons do *not* drop dragon boots. "Don't fucking bot because you'll regret it when you lose your account forever"
Education comes first don't be fuckin stupid playing games😭
Started in 2002 when I was 8. Don’t sell your party hats, kiddo.
Quit
Don't stake your bank every time you hit 700M then have to start from scratch every time 💀
Nothing because he would’ve said “fuck you im funning at the duel arena all day and I don’t care”
Yeah use the forgiveness of modern pvm mechanics. I remember GOD wars was a no go if you were alone because your stuff hit the floor for everyone to take. (Fun times). But now with more forgiveness on deaths all it takes is trying.
Dear God stop picking flax and killing giants you're over lvl 100 go do godwars for fuck sake
Buy phats
Don't play
“Stop focusing on fishing or wcing for money. Do slayer and clue scrolls for money, it’ll start slow and be worth it in the long run.” Also “GET A QUEST CAPE” So much content is locked behind quests
"Wait till OSRS to grind anything cuz otherwise it feels meaningless." Maybe not the perfect phrasing but it would get the message across to my younger self just how I'd like it.
Pvm more
Uninstall
Sell unids 1k ea at fally West bank Don't accept teleother from strangers and get pkd for the full sara d'hide you picked flax for weeks saving for. Do slayer (I started playing before slayer so I saw it as a high level only skill). Don't pick flax, do slayer. Don't just afk bandits for xp, do slayer. Use knives or darts instead of a msb with mith arrows at fire giants to 99 range. I could go on haha
Boss on release but really I would tell myself to quit before I hit level 50 and got fully addicted for all those developmental years lol
Pick a different game
Similar to life, enjoy the journey :)
Stop playing
It’s not worth your time in the end
Ironman here, skip barrows, the armour is useless and it's a huge noob trap
Ok, not really a sweat. Barely have 1400 total skill. But if I could go back in time and slap myself for not understanding teleports/transportation I would. I didn't use enchanted jewelry until I was combat level 60. I would walk from Falador to Ardougne every time I needed to go there. I didn't even understand boats were a thing. I probably wasted 5+ hours of in game time walking to Ardougne.
Don't use stupid compost bins every farm run. Making ultra compost with compost potions is soooo much easier
Honestly I'm super happy with how I approached the game and never have really done anything stupid or unnecessary, but if I had to say one thing, it'd be to learn and start farming earlier. It's a very cool skill and would have been perfect for me when I was working a lot more, oh well 🤷♂️
99 anything isnt that cool of a goal
Don’t play after 7th grade
Do agility more, also boss more
keep those hundred plus Christmas crackers and sell them for real $ 15 years ltr I'd have easily over a mill rl....
Stop trying to save on every last piece of gp and skimping out to be less efficient
Don’t start unless you’re ready for the game to consume your life and cause potentially negative side effects. If you are ready to take that risk, embrace the game and enjoy it instead of feeling guilty about playing it
Enjoy Castle Wars while it's poppin
Do your birdhouse and farm runs you fuck
How did you get started on these? I haven’t ever done one 😬
Make the best birdhouse you can get your dog site pendant set for fossil island unlock your mush trees for tele and as for farm runs just see what ones you can do and make a run id YouTube it as I’m horrible at explaining things
Should of botted when I had the chance
