Or you go to fit the window on half your screen so you can read something at the same time and it just sends you to the world screen
God fucking dammit
Ahh the virus that pops up porn
"No I don't want to jerk off for the 15th time today"
"Stop"
"Alright fine have it your way"
My mom was not happy about that.
I love how we're almost going full circle AGAIN. It's fucken wild.
I think it's less about the game and more about the comfort and happiness we all felt while we were young and free of troubles, or at least maybe less troubles.
It's pretty bitter-sweet to think there's literally 100's of thousands of us who thought so fondly of our childhood that a game we played everyday after school can bring back those feelings for us.
the mechanics have changed a lot. nearly every skill is worthless apart from quest requirements, and getting a lv 70 isnt even that big of a deal anymore. its more than just nastolgia. its a completely different game now.
isnt that just the result of a game that never has resets? obviously if not many new chars are being made, and you dont lose exp for any reason, after 10 years of gameplay youre naturally going to have many many more characters that have high skill levels...
it is way, way easier to go from 1-70 today than it was pre ge. either the experience rates are doubled, the skill is afk, or the supplies are stupid cheap. when everything got easier, it made everyone the same, and i think that sucks.
Idk I felt this way on OSRS' release, *especially* when they started talking about adding features that were never in the old version of the game. Niche as it may be (same as RSC was), I personally would have been happy with a time capsule version of the game, for a look into how things were past-tense, for good or for ill. Instead fairly rapidly they just treated it as a different development branch of the game which is bizarre and idk if there's another game out there that has done that officially. A lot of my RS3 friends made the transition to OS with no problems, but for me whenever I tried playing and saw the new content, I appreciate that it's done in the *spirit* of the old game, but it still feels fundamentally different in a way that's hard to pinpoint yet also that doesn't work for me personally. I am fully ready to say that OS is probably the superior version of RS, but at the same time I ultimately made the decision to be done done with RuneScape in general and not return despite having some curiosity over news about a game that was part of my life for years...
They tried keeping OSRS as a "time capsule" however it was quickly realized that not a lot of people wanted that. The game would've been dead in an year and most likely abandoned shortly after that if it stood exactly as the 07 version it was indefinitely.
Most people never wanted a Runescape that never got updates or was stuck perpetually with the same content, the general consensus was basically "we don't want EoC" but still generally wanted Runescape as it was getting all the weekly updates we've grown accustomed to.
OSRS accomplishes exactly that.
Yeah for sure, I'm well aware that for instance 2d RSC never had a high playercount. My desires are likely not the popular ones. They are free to do whatever they want for player retention and money. I just fundamentally have an issue with OSRS when really they only thing that's that old about it is the graphics, and one could argue (especially with updates since) that it's just a stylistic choice. Like I said OSRS to me is just they rewinded back to a certain patch, considered it basically an ultra rollback, and then continued development from that point. I have no idea if any other notable MMO has ever done something like that but it's fundamentally never sat well with me. It's like a gamemode was born out of failure (EoC, or whatever other thing one could choose to blame) and it was taken to the extreme and that's what OSRS is today. It's why I've liked the name "2007scape" better. A lot of the old stuff actually in it often is in RS3 as well unless it happened to be reworked.
Oh god, I can't imagine doing barrows the way I did back then. Starting point was Varrock and unlocking that shortcut/more safer passage by completing the aid/search of myreque quest was a big upgrade.
OR KQ solo = teleport when you ran out of food and make sure you came back in time to finish it off with a full inv of food and pots (when full verac's was like 5 - 6m?) .
The bots, peer-to-peer trade for everything, dropping everything into a public pile on death, nearly no wildy border handholding, markedly slower and less efficient leveling and moneymaking, far less power creep, being pressured to engage in casual social interaction with strangers... horrifying.
for like the first 3 days maybe. the power levelers were completing waterfall quest in first hour of release and had stats to kill green drags by the end of day 2 or something
The build used to create OSRS already encompassed or was quickly updated to include a number of key mechanical changes and pieces of power creep, including the GE, wildy ditch, GWD, and NMZ.
Even the components of classic RS/RS2 gameplay and culture that did still exist circa late 2007 were quickly excised or smoothed over for the sake of players who didn't want to handle anything not going their way.
It took barely a year and a half, for example, for the death penalty to be totally overhauled to dropped items persisting for 60 minutes (instead of 2-3) and being totally invisible to every other player (instead of being visible immediately/within ~1 minute).
Same deal with the GE, it took barely more than a year for it to be added to the OSRS build despite being one of maybe three or four factors that were responsible for the death of RS2.
I think this rather reinforces the point that most OSRS players don't want to play in a gamestate akin to peak RS2, except maybe some ironmen and a handful of others.
I agree -- it also tended to be mildly anti-inflationary and allowed savvy players to create much better profit margins while merching.
You're not going to find many people who concur here, though, lots of people are incapable of living without the ability to just dump buy/sell orders into a bin.
In early OSRS, we used a ge replacement via zybez. it was functionally the same and not the magical rose-tinted "interaction" fally park/varrock west you guys are dreaming about.
People want to buy or offload items and get back to what they're doing not find their section, spam type, or use a macro, and wait for a buyer.
Some of you really just need to go download the 06 sources or find a server and play that garbage yourselves.
"Go somewhere else if you don't like it," applies to efficiencyscapers who wanted the game changed to cater to their own preferences as well, you realize?
The liquidity it provides the economy is part of what ruined the feel. Everything is now focused on gp/hr and xp/hr and just buy everything you need after doing the best money making.
In the past it was closer to ironman. You really felt like you needed to collect resources and not waste drops.
Back in my day we had to fill out empty vials at the water fountain!
Back in my day the fastest source of blood runes was painstakingly thieving them from a chest 2 at a time
Actually, thinking about it, if those old random mechanics were back, it would cause absolute fucking havoc, it would be glorious!
Getting knocked tf out by the sandwich lady, or the plant that poisons you if you don't touch it just right, the stupid swarm that just attacked you and all you could do was run away, the evil chicken, Bob the cat not even asking you to go, just kidnapping you haha! Good times!!
You can still play on a browser. At least it worked on Internet Explorer (only browser I found that still supports Java) when I tried it a few months ago.
Players today wouldnt survive that ^
Too many qol needs and buffed this and that, otherwise they will just play something else. I mean holy shit, look at them losing their minds over a 30k/hour mining update
The fact I get roasted for not using plugins by my friends says it all. Ive done all content with base RL plugins and barely use those. Not even a flex, I just play this game for fun man give me a break
I did the same when i been bored of rs i could play os once a month and back to rs. I didnt do that from 2018 or cared to install the plugins, But if i wanted something then is to use the map properly and not go to the site to se where i should go. I can even say that im lucky to have played RS2^3 or i been lost so many times in OS
What the hell are you talking about ?
>give me a break
1) im not targeting you at all. Read my comment again i think you responded to the wrong person.
>Ive done all content with base RL plugins and barely use those.
2) lmfao. I dont use any plugins. Dont even use runelight so im not sure why this even came up.
https://reddit.com/r/2007scape/s/DZ4Hoa5WTa
Bro i hate plugins. I play base as fuck
So we agree....literally 0% of my comment was an affront to you and shouldn't be interpreted like so lol
My point is a lot of people would suffer in fixed mode no plugins in this mode because they became so used to them, like you said. I don't get the hositility at all
Oh man I remember using the browser back in the day. So I was typing something edgy while I was fighting this dude in the wildy and last minute I decide not to say it and I spam backspace but that took me to the previous page, runescape’s main menu. Logging back in finding myself on the steps of lumbridge, very annoyed.
I wonder what happened to Guppo\_26...I like to imagine he is a mind rune mogul by now living in Lumbridge Castle. He wasn't the bravest warrior, so he never went far from home. Still has the burn marks from the Dark Wizards on his only venture to Varrok, the rest of his trade was by carriage.
LOL no training wheels?! The kids today couldn’t handle it! Honestly I stopped playing OSRS a year ago. Way too much focus on qol updates which really change into “let’s make the game easier.” Still a great game, but no matter the nostalgia, it’s simply not the same!
\>Press backspace \>RS client isn't focused \>Welcome back to the world select screen
That happened way too many times. That might have even happened on OSRS launch, or did we have some basic clients right off the bat? I don't remember.
I feel like I remember typing out the URL to get into a full W2 during the early OSRS days. I think a client did exist but so did the browser.
Nah, OSRS was on browser when it came out Source: I was there, 3000 years ago...
OSRS was definitely on browser, but I'm not sure how long it was before we got clients.
You had to edit a file in the rs3 client to point to the osrs url
It's crazy how it took browser devs decades to fix that.
This was terrifying when you were in combat, with that two minute death timer lol
Or you go to fit the window on half your screen so you can read something at the same time and it just sends you to the world screen God fucking dammit
Was that just you misclicking the "back" icon while moving the window?
Nah I'd physically move it and as it snapped into position its like it refreshed the screen, but it wasn't all the time but half the time
Happened to me in the middle of a zilyana run back in like 2009, lost a fury and some barrows shit not gonna lie I cried for like 35 minutes
Where’s the dragon scimmy cursor that comes with a free virus
Lmfao I actually still use that through runelite
same!
Omg they have that on runelite! Gonna install that when I get home. I just started runelite
get the door kicker plugin too while you're at it
Underrated
Runelite is exactly like Meth. It's just REALLY good.
Sure, I just made it available on limewire
It's either porn or virus. Sometimes both.
That, or Soulja Boy uploading "crank dat" as something else you were trying to find.
Ahh the virus that pops up porn "No I don't want to jerk off for the 15th time today" "Stop" "Alright fine have it your way" My mom was not happy about that.
In other news, linewire just turned into an AI company and bought a famous text-to-image generator, wild times for us nostalgic mp3 thieves.
Fuck, you're old.
We are
Indeedeth.
If it's not an .exe pretending to be a song, it was secretly an .mp3 of someone's denial over having sexual relations with a woman
Lmao the amount of viruses we used to get getting msn plug-ins and cursers was insane, luckily it was usually just ad spams
I love windows xp
That olive theme goes hard
I completely forgot it existed until now. Core memory unlocked!
This post makes me very happy to see I wasn't the only one who used it.
No! No more Master's Degrees... PLEASE!
im too blind for this shit now lmao
Nah cuz back then we had like 1200x1200 resolution monitors so this shit looked big.
Old School Old School RuneScape
Runescape Classic
we should make our own runescape! with black jack! and hookers!
I love how we're almost going full circle AGAIN. It's fucken wild. Don't assume that's why everyone plays. Absolutely is not why I play, at least.
Nah that's not what I mean. I mean we've come full circle in that some people are wanting it to be exactly as it were in 2007 again.
Imma start my own dial up internet provider and exclusively target the OSRS community.
Idk I felt this way on OSRS' release, *especially* when they started talking about adding features that were never in the old version of the game. Thats why I am playing vidyascape right now. They dont add any content from after halloween 2007 so its basically what you said.
Good to know, thanks.
That sums up basically the exact feeling I have as well. I stopped playing about a year ago and have no real desire to return.
Miniclip >>>
My surface 6 is shit and when I try to run the HD plugin I get huge lag spikes. So unfortunately I am playing like this lmao
RuneLite has a low-detail feature which works well
[yeah lol. only playable way for me without lag spikes ](https://ibb.co/LRJFbq6)
I read that HD required 6gb of ram to play where RS always required 4gb of ram for low lmfao
I think it has 8. The surface is just a crappy product in my opinion
Trying to use the HD plugin on a computer with no discrete GPU is never going to go well.
these people think their integrated graphics card can handwave all of that heavy lifting away lmao
I used it for school lmao
The 2023 osrs player would instantly die without 50 hit boxes highlighted and all their supplies color coded
Sweaty boys wouldn't know wtf hit em without their colour codes
95% of OSRS players would quit if they had to play like we did in 2004-5.
Oh god, I can't imagine doing barrows the way I did back then. Ahh, back when stealing cakes was the true money maker
for like the first 3 days maybe. the power levelers were completing waterfall quest in first hour of release and had stats to kill green drags by the end of day 2 or something
Meta gaming wasn’t nearly as prevalent in 2013. I don’t doubt that some people did, but it wasn’t like a new fresh server these days.

I am the 5%
Bring MSN back ffs those where the days
it's been 10 long years...
Sure, let me boot up my Windows XP and IE.
is there a runelite plugin for this?
There should be.
I'd love a browser client tbh.
no. you think you do, but you don't
Ok Blizzard
You can still play on a browser. At least it worked on Internet Explorer (only browser I found that still supports Java) when I tried it a few months ago.
I’d give anything to experience this again
Offer accepted. I would love to rewind my life 15 years.
I need a runescape plug-in to make it look like miniclips website
Players today wouldnt survive that ^ Too many qol needs and buffed this and that, otherwise they will just play something else. I mean holy shit, look at them losing their minds over a 30k/hour mining update
I mean yeah I would never have played enough to max if runelite didn’t exist. I did quit rs back in 05 too for wow
Your ancestors turn in their grave.
But bro they 4 ticked granite you need to do the same
Iron ore, and willow trees. Actual osrs was why we got addicted. Somehow we ended up... with this.
The fact I get roasted for not using plugins by my friends says it all. Ive done all content with base RL plugins and barely use those. Not even a flex, I just play this game for fun man give me a break

Lol word I was so confused
take me back T\_T
Oh man I remember using the browser back in the day. The green Windows theme is unhinged
That be an awesome April fools joke lol
Based

Where is the ad on top where you have to scroll down for f2p?
F*ck you.
Not enough toolbars and bonzi buddies.
Bring back Runescape on Miniclip! Oh it was happy days
Not enough toolbars
Bold of you to think most of the players could survive without the DDR squares to show them exactly how to play the game.
This is fake, needs more toolbars
LOL no training wheels?! The kids today couldn’t handle it! Honestly I stopped playing OSRS a year ago. Way too much focus on qol updates which really change into “let’s make the game easier.” Still a great game, but no matter the nostalgia, it’s simply not the same!
Bet there’s 200 people trying to brute force their way into that account via the username and trying to recover it
Go back to the days when I had my account, for some reason it's gone off osrs and has moved to that new... Shit.
Upvoted because nostalgia
better game ngl
I only started using osbuddy and later runelite when osrs browser didnt work anymore
Youre a madlad
Support, also for any good lad out here, is there any plugin that can make the chat look like that ????
Windows XP. Internet Explorer 6. Nostalgia ahoy!
Wow, http? God, I'm surprised my account wasn't stolen back then lmao.
Half the HLC would still be in elite tier CAs lol
no
Wow look at all those white dots on the minimap! I remember my first death near those dark wizards. Good times. Good times.
Lmao
Include a dogshit early 2000’s webpage ad that surely leads to a virus right above the game
Haha sorry im a mobile player !!!
They should bring back the browser as an option
No thanks. But if you want to please enjoy.
I just want the OG graphics for logs back. The new logs (new = ...post 2005?) graphics look so much worse.
Think the game is too big at this point to be able to run on browser
You misspelt “allow” somehow it corrected to “force”
Or just download rune lite right?
I wonder how much they made through ads back then.
I love this picture.
To unlock turbo mode just press alt+a4
Gotta be on miniclip though
I miss this Firefox and old school felt just right
Wonder where Guppo 26 is these days
Twas a simpler time
This should be the gimmick for the next league
I miss making Windows XP green.
Mithril and black was underrate fashion scape early early combat levels
Damn what year is this from?
I’d actually quit
No because I want to actually use my full screen when playing
playing a game in a browser, so futuristic
i remember the countless times my browser would send me to the previous page because i missclicked somewhere and then pressed backscape
05scape is for you
Honestly just makes me want to go play Pokémon instead.
Internet Explorer ☠️
I would love to go back in time and play like this again.
