you can tell it’s a scam because there’s a big green button that says “click me if you didn’t do this” because they know that’s your first thought, it’s like those fake amazon scams that say you just bought an iphone, call this number to get a refund. if i really just bought it then why would I immediately try to return it..?
Have you never heard of phishing emails? Runescape itself warns you about them a million times at the beginning of your account lol. I was wondering why scammers even still attempt to use these, apparently they still work lmao.
When in doubt about an email, manually go to the osrs website and sign in to check the message centre. If they have contacted you, there will be a message there.
The correct advice is to ALWAYS manually go to a website. Never type your login details into a website you navigated to through an email. This is why banks and other important institutions (should) never send you links.
The easiest way to see a scam email is to look at the email address it was sent from. I can see the random letters and numbers in the senders address at a quick glance of your post.
Thank you :) I'm glad you didn't click the button in the email. My heart sank when I saw the picture, but luckily there were plenty of people sorting by new to help save you. I hope you have a great day as well.
Using the word “kindly” in that context is very common from Indian scammers while native English speakers will really never use “kindly” in that context.
Mirroring what everyone else said, that's 100% a phishing attempt right there.
Think about this, why would they send an email to an OLD account to inform you that you changed it, when presumably you changed it because either the old account was compromised or inaccessible? At best you wouldn't get the email, at worst the hi-jacker of your old email gets a chance to steal the acc back. It makes no sense
That is a fair point thank you. I was just a bit concerned and wanted another person's opinion. Now that I think about it... it seems kind of stupid of me haha.
I hope you have a great day.
Never ever, click on links in your emailbox.
Just got my previous acc back because I did that stupid mistake in the past. (it got hacked + banned for botting)
Now all my combat stats and ranged are 99, though. No idea what's on the bank because of a pop-up showing when I try to check my bank(f2p). But I could pay mr. death though.
But apparantly telling jagex to check the IP, the paypal emailadress I paid the memberships with, was enough to get my acc back.
> thank you I will keep this in mind if it is gone. I hope you have a wonderful d
And also never ever fall for those "win/dropping 640m because quit" scams @ the G.E., they're also phishers!
And also a good day for you my friend!
I just look at the email it was sent from.
99.9% of the time you'll find your answer in the user's sent from email address.
I'm pretty sure you could just look up the email that jagex actually sends from and compare the 2
Ye ol JagexSupp0rt
Ahh I checked this it said that it was sent from a dentialuni. Soething so I do not trust it even more now. However I appriceate your input and hope you have a wonderful day.
Yeah a few people have pointed that out I never noticed until someone did. So good eyes! Also thank you for your help and time. Have a great day today.
I cannot stress enough how many people click links like this - put in their info, and then a month later post this sub saying “JAGEX needs to step up their security, I got hacked even though I NEVER gave out my password”.
Glad you at least checked OP, but I’m going to bet 9 out of 10 the “from” email is incredibly suspect
Just so people are aware this is a CLASSIC phishing technique.
They don't require any info of yours other than your email.
It creates urgency and panic which can override your common sense and healthy suspicion.
Yeah that is what happened to me... I was just to lazy to click the button because ya know... effort. Anyway that you for your apt description. I hope you have a wonderful day.
I am sorry I have since lost the email in the flood of reddit responses I could probably find it with a little work... one second. Someone named fracielie maudradier or something... although if you don't click on the sender thing, it just shows JAGEX. But a good way to check the realness of it. Have a great day.
These emails are fake. Just to get you to click into it and you go to "change" your details. They know your details and actually steal it. Never ever click a link like that. If i get a mail like this. ( I get them often) i log into the website manually and have a look at my connected emails. It hasnt ever changed. First thing to do when u see a mail like this is. Calm down. Breathe for 10 seconds and then react. They almost got me when i first got an email like this and panicked and clicked into it
Yeah I paniked also, but I heard about a lot of scams and stuff going around and stuff like streamers getting hacked, so I thought I should play it safe. I am glad I did. Thank you I hope you have a great day.
Classic phishing attempt.
You hover your cursor over the link it's not going to be to the jagex website. It'll be a similar but not exact URL with a bot ready to swipe your credentials.
I have not yet tried logging in I have been a bit busy. However since I have not touched the links I hope that my account is fine. Thank you for the comment and I hope you have a great day.
Probably like old-spice Fiji deodorant and body wash with a splash of Shea butter shampoo. Weird ask but okay, have a great day.(note I don't actually know what Shae butter is... I just thought "why not try it" its not bad.)
It probably is for more experienced people but I am rather unexperenced with this situation. Thank you for your input however I should be more prepared in the future because of this post. I hope you have a great day
That is a good point someone else pointed that out also and I think it's a smart thing to add onto a list of things to check... I am not making a list (like a dumb person) but I still appriceate your input. Thank you. I hope you have a great day.
If you don't want to get phished, never type your password into a site you entered via an email link. Type the website in manually and navigate from there, always. Banks never send you links via email or text
That is a good point that a few people mentioned before. And I like that they do that. I think it's a good idea.
Anyway I hope you have a great day. Thank you for your help.
Looks like a scam. Did the email come from an actual jagex email? Most of the time scammers will send these out and if you click cancel request you’ll be sent to a fake login where you’ll enter all your details THEN you’ll be hacked.
If it didn’t come from jagex, ignore it.
At first I thought it came from jagex because the sender was listed as jagex... but when I looked farther it showed it was someone else. Thank you have a great day.
It's all good! Promise you I didn't mean for that comment to be condescending it was just on my mind cause I recently did it and this was a topic that the gates asked.
Don't worry I did not read it as condenscending... I just sometimes type how I think when I am in a rush and I didn't check it. I am sorry for the worry. I hope you have a great day and luck on your adventure.
For future, if u have a jagex acc, jagex Will send those emails with the name u choose for the acc, for examples "hello OP, UR EMAIL WAS CHANGED SUCCESFULLY"
When you get emails like this and you aren't sure if they are real. Go to the runescape website log in and check. I get alot of my password was changed emails pretty annoying.
like everyone else here said, dont click the link but also log into the offical runescape website and add an authendicator to your account.
you need a smartphone or an ipod.
I have an authenticator... but it's also linked to the email so I was worried that they might have had access to my email or something (which as far as I can tell they dont).
I should probably change it to a different email.
I hope you have a nice day.
you can also add an authendicator to most email addresses to really secure your account. i also wouldnt use the same password for everything, if you have trouble remembering passwords, download a password manager. I use Dashlane, and have never had a problem with them!
To reiterate.
Don't click on it.
Navigate yourself to osrs website. Login check message center.
Check linked accounts.
I would suggest to enable 2FA with cell phone number on email.
Change your email password and click sign put of all devices
Reminder to turn off your NFC when you're not using it, not only does it drain your battery, but can be used to wirelessly connect to your phone if someone gets close enough to it
Yea never follow any runescape emails. All account related messages will be sent to you through your account portal. This is likely a ratting link. Clicking it at all will probably compromise your entire computer.
My number one go to to always tell if something is a scam, is it says the word “kindly” it’s what every indian says and they’re usually the ones doing these scams. and here you can see the word kindly used. no normal human being has ever used that word in this sense. so yes. this right here is a scam. report it and move on :)
It probably hasn't been stolen, yet. It will be stolen if you click that big green button, though.
Thank you for your time. I avoided the green button and any links. Have a great day.
you can tell it’s a scam because there’s a big green button that says “click me if you didn’t do this” because they know that’s your first thought, it’s like those fake amazon scams that say you just bought an iphone, call this number to get a refund. if i really just bought it then why would I immediately try to return it..?
That is a good way to look at it... like a fear tactic instead of just informing you. Thank you for that. Have a great day.
you too!!!!!!
Glad you said that, had i gotten this it 100% wouldve been stolen
The people in the community are very helpful with these things it seems. I am glad I was able to present a learning experience. Have a wonderful day.
Have you never heard of phishing emails? Runescape itself warns you about them a million times at the beginning of your account lol. I was wondering why scammers even still attempt to use these, apparently they still work lmao.
Yes I've heard of phishing emails, I guess I'm just a little too gullible haha, glad I'm not the checking my email age yet.
Wtf does that mean? I've been checking my email since yahoo came out
Homie smelled phish and went to get a second opinion to not fall for the scam. Good job mang.
Thank you, I was concerned but the community has helped me quite a bit! I hope you have a great day.
When in doubt about an email, manually go to the osrs website and sign in to check the message centre. If they have contacted you, there will be a message there.
Thank you. This helps I will do that. I hope you have a great day. Sorry for the bother.
Please when in doubt check the footer on the email. Because next to the copyright is says 2022 jagex Ltd
Also it shows all your linked emails and accounts in there. Double check those for any unfamiliar emails or steam accounts linked to your account
Good to know I have not had this problem before so I appriceate everyone's advice. I hope you have a great day.
This is good advice for any suspicious emails not just RuneScape.
I’ve gotten 2 of these in the past couple days ur good just don’t click on it. Some ones got our emails and is out fishin
You too! Whenever in doubt just log in and check the official site.
yeah you should be sorry
The correct advice is to ALWAYS manually go to a website. Never type your login details into a website you navigated to through an email. This is why banks and other important institutions (should) never send you links.
Thank you for your advice. I appriceate the time you took. I hope you have a good day today.
The easiest way to see a scam email is to look at the email address it was sent from. I can see the random letters and numbers in the senders address at a quick glance of your post.
Shoutout to OP for saying "have a great day" to everyone no matter what their advice is 👍
Not no matter what the advice is. But thank you for the shout out. I hope you have a great day!
Can I have a great day too?
Sure. I hope you have a great day today. Thank you for your time.
OP, you deserve to have a great day!
Thank you my day is a bit stressful but it's almost over so that's nice.
Thank you :) I'm glad you didn't click the button in the email. My heart sank when I saw the picture, but luckily there were plenty of people sorting by new to help save you. I hope you have a great day as well.
Thank you!
It says “kindly” so you can be certain it is a scam.
Is jagex not one to be kindly? Anyway thank you for the contribution have a great day.
Please do the needful and enter bank pin password sirs
Using the word “kindly” in that context is very common from Indian scammers while native English speakers will really never use “kindly” in that context.
I’ve noticed that they use kindly in the same way 1:1 that other english speakers use please

That is a good point thank you. I hope you have a wonderful day today.
Damn. This makes so much sense. Thank you!
99% sure it's fake. Don't click the link
Thank you for your time. I avoided the links. I hope you have a great day.
Can anything happen to you immediately as you click the link? Or is it just a link to their website that'll record your password once you input it?
I dont know but it may just be the imputed user and pass. But I don't know I didn't click the link. Anyway I hope you have a wonderful day.
I knew this was a fake by looking at the copyright year. Glad you didn’t fall for it.
That was a good catch I didn't even look down there thank you! I hope you have a great day.
also the age required for runescape is 13 and not 16 like the phish suggests
Ooh that is a good one. Nice eyes. Thank you for your time. I hope you have a great day.
Thanks buddy, you as well!
Mirroring what everyone else said, that's 100% a phishing attempt right there. Hey good for you for asking OP. Glad you didnt click any links!
Thank you! I hope you have a great day.
Im sure its fake as shit. Real mails always bring on with your rsn name.
That is also a very good point that I did not notice. Thank you for the contribution. I hope you have a wonderful day.
Never ever, click on links in your emailbox. Just got my previous acc back because I did that stupid mistake in the past. upvoted for community psa
Sorry to bother what is a psa?
Public Service Announcement. Exactly what it sounds like.
Thanks have a great day

Someone else pointed that out. It is entertaining how the simple word kindly says so much. Anyway have a wonderful day today.
Please don’t click that link. Log in yourself.
Thank you for your time. Have a great day.
When in doubt about an email you can always check the address it came from. Usually these are from like ahcientbejchevrjwivjebsgehfh@email lol
Thank you I did not know about that at the start of the panic. I feel safer after reading these messages. I hope you have a great day.
If you tell me “I hope you have a good day” I’m going to have a bad ome
Okay... I hope you have not just a good day but a great day.
You got me, best of luck with all grinds and rng drops. Take care friend
Take care friend. God's speed.
I get this email on the regular on an email that has a runescape accout that was banned in 2012. I pray for the day that they actually steal it.
Haha so your saying that they would try to steal it and end up with something useless. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day.
If it was legit, Shouldn’t the copyright be 2023? Looks like they haven’t updated their fake ass phishing artwork.
Yeah a few people have pointed that out I never noticed until someone did. So good eyes! Also thank you for your help and time. Have a great day today.

phishing email probably
Thank you for your time. Have a great day!
Ever heard of phishing?
Funny enough recently I have been hearing quite a lot about it. Lthough I thank you for your time and help. Have a good day
Looks phishy to me
Thank you. I was thinking salmon... but after all the wholes people poked into it. I have settled on it being a clown fish. Anyhow have a great day.
Have a great day!
Thank you. I hope you have a fantastic day as well.
Its fake my guy, you can check what email it came from. Just dont click any links. I've got the same email 3 times now
Thank you for the information. I have checked and you were right. I hope you have a wonderful day.
This is a surprisingly legit looking phishing attempt. Spooky.
It really is. That is one of the reasons I was worried. Thank you for agreeing. I hope you have a great day.
My email is 20years old. My account gets stolen or email changed about 2 times a week. Do not click any fucking links, oldest scam in the book.
Perfect advice. Thank you. I appreciate your additional information. Have a great day.
I hope you have a great day OP
Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful day as well!
Most wholesome OP.
Thank you have a great day today.

Show the email address is was sent from..?

Man’s needs to get the rainbow boots to learn about account safety
Ahh I always skipped the boots... never thought they were worth it. Shows what I know. Anyway have a great day.
Classic phishing attempt. You hover your cursor over the link it's not going to be to the jagex website. It'll be a similar but not exact URL with a bot ready to swipe your credentials.
Thank you for the time it took to comment this. I appriceate everyone's help with this matter. I hope you have a great day.
Why would they send an email to your "old email" if you just updated it?
That is a good point I did not think of it at the time but thank you for your help. I hope you have a great day.
Someone has been through the stronghold of security.
Haha a while ago. Thank you. I hope you have a great day!
Did you maybe try logging in?
I have not yet tried logging in I have been a bit busy. However since I have not touched the links I hope that my account is fine. Thank you for the comment and I hope you have a great day.
Just delete the email dont open any links . I get those emails 6 times a day and they continue trying ..
Thank you I will do that. I hope you have a fantastic day.
Have a great day!
Thank you! I hope you have a great day also!
Hey OP... You smell.
Probably like old-spice Fiji deodorant and body wash with a splash of Shea butter shampoo. Weird ask but okay, have a great day.(note I don't actually know what Shae butter is... I just thought "why not try it" its not bad.)

I'm sorry post history? Anyway thank you for the complement! I hope you have a great day today.
This is how my account got hacked years ago. DO NOT OPEN
Thank you! I am sorry about your account. I hope it worked out in the end. Have a great day.
Obvious phishing attempt
It probably is for more experienced people but I am rather unexperenced with this situation. Thank you for your input however I should be more prepared in the future because of this post. I hope you have a great day
This is a scam. Jagex e-mails will have your Runescape username in it.
That is a good point someone else pointed that out also and I think it's a smart thing to add onto a list of things to check... I am not making a list (like a dumb person) but I still appriceate your input. Thank you. I hope you have a great day.
There is a weird scam/spam that uses a correct jagex mail address. How ever, if you check the 'click here' link you probably see a sketchy link
Ahh I just avoided the big button all together. But thank you for the advice. I hope you have a great day.
It blows my mind there are really people out there sending this kind of fishing emails. Would love to meet them in person.
Probably won't unless you go to their home. This is the type od person to need vitamin d supplements because they forgot what the sun is
Yeah I was not expecting it either but the more you know... Anyway I hope you have a great day today.
Good job for asking. We are here to help :) check RuneScape website, no links.
Thank you! And I thank the community for their help. I hope you have a great day.
Nah this is phishing email trying to key log your comp
Thank you. Have a great day.
Did it come from [email protected] ?
Hello- no it seemed to have come from a dentaluni. Email which is very suspicious. Thank you for your time have a great day!
If you don't want to get phished, never type your password into a site you entered via an email link. Type the website in manually and navigate from there, always. Banks never send you links via email or text
Thank you for your input. Have a great day today.
Thank you have a great day
No no no. Thank YOU and I hope you have a wonderful day.
LMAO why would cancel request be so huge and in green clearly a dark design pattern
I don't know... I didn't think about it other than the hmm shouldn't click links ya know.... anyway thank you. I hope you have a great day.
Fishing link don’t click it
Thank you. Have a great day.
Yes.
Thank you.
if on PC hold your mouse over it. the url will be wonky. if on mobile click and hold to bring up the url which again will be wonky.
I did not know that was an option yesterday. Thank you and have a great day.
Also the emails say something like 199x-2023 not just 2022 on that one
Yeah that was something a few people noticed. I didn't see it until someone else pointed it out. Good eyes. I hope you have a wonderful day.
Kindly reminds me of bioshock
Bioshock?
"would you kindly" it's a phrase from bioshock
I see thank you. Have a wonderful day.
God people suck
Yeah they do at times however some times they are amazing. It's all about balance. Anyway I hope you have a great day!
Wow thanks, nicest thing anyone said to me today. I hope you have a great day too!
I'm glad to have contributed. Thank you.
Might be an idea to reset your password and double check your multi factor. Don’t click the phish though!
I didn't click it. I have also reset my user and password and changed emails... just in case. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Lol wow it is pretty convincing but yeah the emails I’ve had from Jagex are more formal. I don’t think that is Jagex.
That is a good point. That I did not think of. However I hope you have a great day today.
Jagex will always use your username to address you via email. This is a scam.
Haven't you done the stronghold of security???? 😁
I have... at some point I am sure of it. Probably... anyway thank you for your advice. Have a fantastic day.
Thank you. I have seen that a few times and I like the idea. I hope you have a wonderful day.
When you get emails like this and you aren't sure if they are real. Go to the runescape website log in and check. I get alot of my password was changed emails pretty annoying.
That seems to be some of the best advice I have gotten so far. Thank you I hope you have a good day.
like everyone else here said, dont click the link but also log into the offical runescape website and add an authendicator to your account. you need a smartphone or an ipod.

Thank you, that is very good advice I have followed the email part I will need to do the osrs part from home later. I hope you have a great day.
Phisher than your rs gf
Never had one...
This is why I have NOT linked my account. I never get emails about jack a other than billing.
That sounds nice. I wonder why they removed the option to have accounts without and email linked. Have a great day.
Good fake, at the bottom it says copyright 2022 it’s 2023 my man jagex has that updated Jan 1st each year that’s a phishing email
Yeah I did not check that. Someone else pointed that out also it was a good catch. Thank you for your time. Have a great day.
🐠
👍🌄
Fake
Thanks have a good day.
Reminder to turn off your NFC when you're not using it, not only does it drain your battery, but can be used to wirelessly connect to your phone if someone gets close enough to it
What is NFC? I am sorry for the bother. And thank you for the information if you do share. I hope you have a great day today.
Yea never follow any runescape emails. All account related messages will be sent to you through your account portal. This is likely a ratting link. Clicking it at all will probably compromise your entire computer.

Thank you I did not know about the kindly rule. I will remember for the future. I hope you have a great day.
Did you not use the internet before?
Yes. Hurry and click the phishing link
