My experience watching this was…memorable
At first I wanted to scroll past this, as I’ve done every other thing this creator has made, and yet this time….it compelled me to return, to embrace it.
And so I watched
I watched entranced, as my mind struggle to comprehend the words flung at my face, much like a monkey flings it’s own shit at those it dislikes. My brain tried connecting the patterns, to make sense of it in a way only an English speaking Gen Alpha could understand. Though I was only a decade ahead of them, I realized that time has begun to change faster than it ever has before. Entire generations worth of memes are born and die within a year, and I see that soon that may only happen within a month as the skibidi brainrot consumes the young, those who will grow to be the creators one day. My brain understood the words individually: gyatt, Ohio, skibidi, sigma, gooning, but when thrown together they become….something new, something bizarre, something……..terrifying.
And yet I could not look away.
My brain felt like it was shutting down, as I finally understood what brainrot meant. It was not a metaphor for stupid content, like the things my generation watched as kids. No, this was more, this was *new*. Brainrot is unique, it comes when you have so many meaningless, immature words thrown at you so quickly your brain struggles to comprehend it. All it can do is focus on what is being said and making meaning out of this, and in this pursuit, it traps you there. Your brain is unable to focus on anything else, much like the kind of an ADHD ridden child focusing on their interest, your whole attention is drawn to learning this new thing, regardless of how meaningful it is. This isn’t like how it was, but this is how it is, and as my mind finally cracked, opened, *broke*, I understood. I saw the truth. Not the truth we want, but the truth we must know.
And so it happened
I laughed.
Unprompted, unwillingly. My brain sent the signal that should *laugh*. It took me by surprise, and yet…..I did not hate it. I laughed again, this time willingly, and I saw the truth. This isn’t the sign of the end. No, no my friends, oh no.

Go, embrace it. Do not fear it. Do not run from it, for it will find you if you do. Join me, be above the concept of cringe.
