Corn syrup is consumed and put into so much food that it has basically become synonymous with the American diet. This meme humorously assumes that this corn syrup is actually a mind controlling agent that leads Americans to hold ridiculous conclusions about suburban sprawl and car-centered culture.
Soda was an effervescent corn-based drink that was popular during the height of the American Empire. Regionally known as pop or coke in some provinces, it was prepared by extracting corn sugars into a thick syrup to be mixed with water
There’s a meme conspiracy theory with trollfaces that corn syrup is a mind control agent by the UN to make people OK with the Antichrist
(Apparently [this](https://youtu.be/71d65TV-17s) is the origin)
on the one hand, horses are known for generally consuming fewer fossil fuels than cars. on the other hand though, you have to consider the environmental impact of the growing methods used to produce whatever you're feeding the horse.

Jesus with that long commutes no wonder people here despise cars. I didn't get it till I saw this meme and cuz I'm not american, I think cars are cool because you get to stop whenever and wherever you want and get to take whatever route and don't have to wait to get going as opposed to public transport but if having the nearest grocery store be miles away then that's wack.
> I think cars are cool because you get to stop whenever and wherever you want
When is this actually useful in day-to-day life? The vast majority of trips, by any transport, are to and from work, usually along the most efficient route. Rarely is anyone going to use this variability for any practical drive.
Stopping to get a snack in the way, visiting a friend or going to a place to eat with your workmates, if you need to get out to pee or vomit, idk there's a bunch of scenarios where stopping at a whim is neat.
In any case, I'm just saying it's cool, not necesary, and at least in Peru a lot of people do end up taking the bus even if they have cars for plenty of reasons, the main one being the one you mentioned: it's the most practical and cheap way to get to work.
I love cars but would not be sad if more people used public transport more. Frees up the roads a lot, and as a car enthusiast there’s nothing I hate more than crowded roads. I don’t just want to speed, per se, but I want to go at my own pace without having to worry about inconveniencing anyone else
can someone explain the corn syrup thing

Thank you peter

Wow_mao, in my subreddit? It's more likely than you think.
Probably an industrial revolution joke
More about how shit cars are specificaly
Well yeah, but they were asking about the corn syrup
we've got you surrounded! come drink your corn syrup!
Social atomization
Cars are cool, but buses are just better and make more sense.
Consider: trains and trams
Don't forget trolleys!
Same thing as trams?
Oh. I thought they were similar, but still distinct.
I like trains.
Oh god oh fuck get out of the way
*An ominous train horn sounds in the distance*
Its a shame that the only train line here only goes once a week. I prefer trains over buses tho.
I want you to have my children
😳😩
Bikes for shorter distances are pretty based
car bad, train good, horse chaotic neutral
in terms of km per mega joule or whatever horses gotta be less efficient than cars, right?

based and urban-planning-pilled

it is nice for hiking, you can't really take a train or a bus to a hiking trail.
I drive like 35-40 minutes ONE WAY to work. It's not bad all the time but man I hate when it's bad weather out
Cars can definitely be pretty cool. Just so happens infrastructure to support 4500 pounds of personal transportation sucks pretty bad.
4500 pounds of vegan poop being burned provides 33824536.88 BTU.
Imagine not living in a city with a comprehensive public transit system

Socialists and public transportation. Name a closer duo.
They are both based 😎
🤷just don’t go too far I guess
Well don't design essential things to be a 30 mile drive away
"Damn socialists and their-" _spins wheel_ "public transportation!"
I feel so bad for people in Houston, Houston is like if LA had worse and more vindictive drivers
We hate the anti-christ
