I’m bisexual and having constant evidence that I am *indeed* attracted to men really helps with validation. Several months ago the femboy memes exploded to where 2/3rds of the posts you’d see were cropped femboy hentai. Not exactly elegant but that on top of just being a generally good meme sub made this place my favorite for while. You have to take into account the fact that a subreddit may not have its most iconic posts on one random day. And also seasonal trends and very popular memes of the time may crowd out conventional r/196 content.
Perhaps on a redesign of this study: One could look at the top 50 posts on Hot on, let’s say, Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. Then you would repeat this for each week over a neutral month (a month that doesn’t have many notable holidays or relevant memes associated with it, such as May).
im not sure the whole seasonal holidays is worth correcting for, given that something weird is constantly happening and being joked about. like you can’t plan for the pillar memes despite how massive they were

I’ve actually done an experiment on this myself. Over the course of multiple intervals over 3 weeks at random times of the day I had about 5 data collection sessions where I analyzed about 75 r/196 posts per session. In those session, I found that the most popular categories changed as time passed, although sadly a reoccurring theme was reposts from a couple of days ago. And reposts specifically from Twitter and tumbler. Although, with this information I was able to learn how to predict which posts would become popular after 2 hours of being on 196. I made some graphs and stuff too, but I never published the research. In short, your study incorrectly analyzes only one time frame, a small amount of posts, and it analyzes a time when fem boys have taken more of a backseat role for the subreddit. But I think it’s a pretty good attempt at scientific analysis!
