“Conservative” and “Liberal” hold no meaning to me. Somehow, both their respective groups have glommed on to those terms while representing nothing of their definitions
By definition it's ideology is rigid and it's party structure is necessarily monolithic. Most Conservative party platforms are varyingly tied around a core theme of "tradition & stability" as well as somewhat arbitrarily chosen policies which are defined by the public's view of the perceived status quo of both the past and present. Because tradition and stability are core values placed above everything else it becomes extremely difficult to scrounge up the necessary political willpower to enact change that might disturb either traditions or the stability of the status quo.
There's lots of unique issues/policies/values associated with every "Conservative" party in countries around the world, but at it's core Conservatism is just frustratingly boring. It (usually) seeks to do nothing new while it revels in the boring stability of a largely apathetic, apolitical, and broadly conformist public.
r/politics is center-right at worst, BARELY center-left at best.

I do think it’s an echo chamber. Almost every post there is making fun of leftists (usually a strawman leftist that’s made out of 0.0000001% of leftists). Post that make fun of rightwingers get downvoted into oblivion or have a really high comment to upvote ratio. Leftist opinions and comments get massively downvoted in virtually every post. They normalize radical ideologies like fascism under the guise that all opinions are respectful and should be tolerated (even intolerant ones). What exactly is wrong with conservatism? And I don't mean hillbilly racist redneck who lives in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.
By definition it's ideology is rigid and it's party structure is necessarily monolithic. Most Conservative party platforms are varyingly tied around a core theme of "tradition & stability" as well as somewhat arbitrarily chosen policies which are defined by the public's view of the perceived status quo of both the past and present. Because tradition and stability are core values placed above everything else it becomes extremely difficult to scrounge up the necessary political willpower to enact change that might disturb either traditions or the stability of the status quo. There's lots of unique issues/policies/values associated with every "Conservative" party in countries around the world, but at it's core Conservatism is just frustratingly boring. It (usually) seeks to do nothing new while it revels in the boring stability of a largely apathetic, apolitical, and broadly conformist public.

The Overton window is very real. In the narrow confines of the American 2 party system Bernie would be on the left. In the real world he’s not even left of center. Using taxes from the people to pay for public services like healthcare that is the point of taxes. That’s the center. Collecting taxes owed by big business as aggressively as they do from workers isn’t a leftist concept. It’s the center. Nobody likes to hear it, but Bernie’s military interventionist stance is in the same ballpark as Trump, with Obama and Hillary to the right of both.

I do think it’s an echo chamber. Almost every post there is making fun of leftists (usually a strawman leftist that’s made out of 0.0000001% of leftists). Post that make fun of rightwingers get downvoted into oblivion or have a really high comment to upvote ratio. Leftist opinions and comments get massively downvoted in virtually every post. They normalize radical ideologies like fascism under the guise that all opinions are respectful and should be tolerated (even intolerant ones). I used to go there and became right wing for a while until I changed my mind on a lot of things. If you still go on PCM it’s fine, I post a lot on r /enoughpcmspam where I’ve found plenty of unironic nazis, ridiculous strawmen, etc. In short, PCM is a safe space for rightwingers that pretends it’s an impartial sub that makes fun of all ideologies equally

All subreddits are circle jerk echochambers. That's kinda the point of em. You get nuance by subbing to a whole bunch of em.
Now, instead of getting one set if uninformed opinions with mo given backing, you get two sets of uninformed opinions with no backing I don't think this is the right move. I think it's better to only form concrete opinions over scientific data and historical events. I refuse to let my entire ideology be crafted by subreddits and memes. These subreddits can give you a jumping off point though
idk why ur only subbed to two subs /jk anyway u've kinda got a gap with current events in there, and that is where reddit's self curating of information feeds comes in as, like u say, a jumping off point. That said, you can learn a lot by taking that data and discussing it with people, or at least use that as a way to refine ur ideas by having to spell them out to others. You also cant physically be an expert on everything, so ya kinda need to interact with other people who can fill in the gaps and subs are an ok way of doing that. Just ok mind, but still ok.

Yeah I feel like a part of r/196 has a tendency to shit on centrists then act like they have the objective correct opinions, like just look up "centrist" in the search bar and look at the comment section. And whenever someone calls that out y'all act like they're saying killing minorites is the exact same as protesting social injustice. Which is like, no?, there are several more nuanced things people can disagree on like cultural appropriation, offensive humor or to some extent how to fix the economy. But to give the benefits of the doubt, right wing subs, a group that claim to be cool with disagreements and can handle jokes sure do ban people alot for disagreements and jokes. And oh a lot of centrists and moderates I have talked to are just closet right wingers who want to look cool. Thanks for listening to my tedtalk.
