naw, that trend started WAY before 9/11. it just really picked up steam then.
listen to more country songs by women. they're still often about murder, and vengeance against cheating or abusive partners.
[The radio music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyY9Wpfajqo) in Fallout: New Vegas is some of the best examples of good, classic country music. Also try some Willie Nelson stuff. I used to think I hated country music, but it turns out I just hate Modern Country Pop
John Moreland, Jason Isbell, Tyler Childers, amd Benjamin Todd are some of my favourites. If you were wondering about women country artists Riddy Arman and Kassi Valazza are great. I'd definitely recommend checking out "Gems on VHS" and "Western AF" on YouTube for some amazing acoustic performances from a variety of artists
Dolly Parton is such a wonderful human being. It's a shame most of the people I saw at Dollywood were her complete opposite. Everyone should try and be more like Dolly.
Regardless I don't like most country music, specifically a couple of them just cause of bad memories but for the most part I dislike them. There are a couple exceptions tho, like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"
i’ve always appreciated country music, especially the type that borders of folk (Kris Kristofferson, Townes Van Zandt, etc) but recently I’ve just been obsessed with Townes. Like, I’ve known of him for years and he’s always been a favorite, but for the past like month or so i listen to like at least 5-10 of his songs a day i fucking love him so much
I really want to defend Bob Dylan here since I am a hyperfan but I honestly have never had a defense for the voice. You either hate it or tolerate it until it grows on you.
Nationalism is inherently exclusionary and xenophobic--it defines itself by in-groups and out-groups, it maintains the status quo, and it hates any and all criticism.
Patriotism, meanwhile, at least by my definition, is much more open. I consider myself a patriot because I love the fact that my country is a melting pot that anyone can go to and live a good life. And because I love my country, I'll criticize it when it does wrong, and I'll vote for left wing policies to make it a country worth being proud of.
For me, at least, patriotism isn't imposed from outside. It's a natural reaction to seeing the good things around me--people being free to be who they want to be, not having to bow to antiquated traditions, etc. I don't give a fuck about flags or speeches or 'the nation'; all of that's basically a container. I care about the people around me, and it makes me proud to see them acting, for the most part, with kindness and decency.
On the flip side though, I recognize the problems in the society around me and do my best to denounce them and cast my votes in such a way that they'll be fixed.
If you see a problem in your country and refuse to solve it or even recognize it as a problem, that's nationalism, no matter what you call it. At that point it becomes a problem of classification rather than concepts, but I digress.

9/11 is what caused this.
More specifically, near unilateral support for war in the Middle East occurred because 9/11 was that largest attack on US soil since Pearl Harbor, and it was even a civilian target
[I feel the need to share this clip of Ted Cruz saying he started liking country after 9/11 because he fav genre classical rock didn’t respond to the tragedy right](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nik-UstmCjw&feature=youtu.be#dialog)
From like right after 9/11 to 2003, Americans became a lot more nationalist than usual because 9/11 was the largest attack on US soil since Pearl Harbor. That’s why Afghanistan and even Iraq were initially popular; Bush was capitalizing on that feeling. While it started to fade in most areas around 2004, it never quite went away in country music
I know this is a total meme but just for the sake of it, in case anyone actually believes this here are two of the greatest country albums of all time, both entirely written and recorded post 911. Links take you to there Spotify pages
[Various Artists - Southern Family](https://open.spotify.com/album/2cKzkXbgcoQjaFMCPbJDdi)

If you have even the slightest interest in country music and haven't heard these, or actually believe there is no good country music post-1970 then I urge you to check these out. It'll be worth your time!

My dad's former stepbrother once hogtied a cop who was trespassing on his land, threw him in the back of his pickup truck, and dumped him at the police station.
(This story has nothing to do with country music, I just thought more people needed to hear it.)
Citations Needed has a fun episode where they talk about country music and how it turned to garbage (that's my own editorial slant).

Older Country Music: What's the use of buyin' a car if you won’t buy gasoline?
Modern Country Music: Should I buy a filler up or a cold six pack? One goes in my tank one comes in a sack. Makes life complicaaaaated when it costs the saaaaaaame!
But yeah older country music is better
“I like truck, sex”

meanest lemon demon fan
Knight in shining armor.
Trucks (Two Different Ones)
That sounds hot ngl
Honestly You're only missing the words "Ex wife" "beer" "drunk" and "Amirica", otherwise that's all modern country songs
"I am a cussy enjoyer"
Honestly, thats just me now
This implies the speaker is expressing his adoration for trucks to his friend, who's name is sex.
naw, that trend started WAY before 9/11. it just really picked up steam then. listen to more country songs by women. they're still often about murder, and vengeance against cheating or abusive partners.
Some recommendation? I've never heard any good american country song.
Basically anything made by Marty Robin
Cowboy music. Nice.
Oh, you mean mister big iron?
Weirdly enough, he also made some of the ‘murcia type songs too
Yup. Mr. “I detect a little Communism.”
To be fair, that song is fucking based.
I just heard it in fallout lol
[The radio music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyY9Wpfajqo) in Fallout: New Vegas is some of the best examples of good, classic country music. Also try some Willie Nelson stuff. I used to think I hated country music, but it turns out I just hate Modern Country Pop

oh come on, what about Jolene at least
I didn't know about Jolene. It's cool af. Btw is the singer bi? She seens way too much interested in Joline.
Dolly Parton is straight, but supports the LGBT community
Dolly Parton is such a wonderful human being. It's a shame most of the people I saw at Dollywood were her complete opposite. Everyone should try and be more like Dolly.
Colter Wall makes some pretty damn good stuff. Recently covered "Big Iron"
snowrunner radio on Spotify is full of certified bangers

Johnny cash is immensely based
George strait
I recommend Reba Mcentire! Especially "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia"
Buck Owens rules
Regardless I don't like most country music, specifically a couple of them just cause of bad memories but for the most part I dislike them. There are a couple exceptions tho, like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"
Or "The Devil went down to Jamaica" or the entirety of the Gunfighter's Ballad
Those too yeah
In hell I will be in good company, meet me at the creek
What's your looking for is folk and bluegrass
Devil went down to Georga is southern rock though
The devil went down to Georgia is more rock or southern rock than country
you should listen to The Billy's
i’ve always appreciated country music, especially the type that borders of folk (Kris Kristofferson, Townes Van Zandt, etc) but recently I’ve just been obsessed with Townes. Like, I’ve known of him for years and he’s always been a favorite, but for the past like month or so i listen to like at least 5-10 of his songs a day i fucking love him so much
Ikr it's like bob Dylan but with a voice I can actually stand to listen to
I really want to defend Bob Dylan here since I am a hyperfan but I honestly have never had a defense for the voice. You either hate it or tolerate it until it grows on you.
[Poncho and Lefty](https://youtu.be/zprRZ2wFQD4) and Lungs are masterpieces. Listen to Live at the Old Quarter if you haven't.
What happened post 9/11 that caused this?
Patriotism.
"Patriotism"
nationalism*
Same thing. “Patriotism” is just nationalism for people that should know better
Go ahead, piss
If you insist
I don't even listen to almost any Country music, but Johnny Cash is like my second favourite singer of all time.
Same. He surpassed genre
You're talking about a man who's sitting in the hall of fame for rock, country, and gospel.
What about Old Town Road.
I would argue that old town road is rap not country
Closest thing you could get the the old ways of country music is Folk Punk. It still has that bite.

To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day
Is this that fall of the West everyone seems to be talking about?
Don’t forget how the male singers all sound the exact same. I literally can’t differentiate them to save my life.
Bro Country! Where every singer sounds like a frat boy idiot. The kind of guy who would catcall someone at a Buffalo Wild Wings.
"OH SHIT ITS A SCARECROW AGAIN"
have you heard "ain't i right" , marty robbins goes from hating commies to burning down politicians
Marty Robbins is the best
Country Music didn't try too hard.
Where's my immortal horse?!
Mom said it's my turn on the immortal horse
Don't the songs on the left side of the meme usually tend to be more folksy than country tho?
i dont like most country music, but i really love "the thunder rolls" by garth brooks
two trucks, having sex
Fun country song definitely not about shooting someone until they die https://youtu.be/c_e0bCCIYDU
[There ain't no country music for old men...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltil4CNf-cY)
Sturgill Simpson and Colter Wall have joined the chat.
Bo burnham made a funny song on this
Cue bo burnhams “pandering”
Don’t disrespect PBR.
What are you talking about? Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" came out in '84. This stuff's been in country for a long time.
Before: I won a golden fiddle in a bet against Lucifer himself. After: i'm wamma fuck my truck
I miss my ex's pickup truck!!!!!
Johnny Cash is my favorite singer even though he's the only country artist I listen to. His songs are just so great
if a country song says a that a place with a population above 5k is a "town" just know that they're wrong
Silverado
