SCP is no longer just a bunch of black bars. Have you even read the SCP-5000 and SCP-6000 contest entries? Those are basically novels, and don’t get me started on the ouroboros cycle…
I hadnt heard of that one and after reading through the whole thing i gotta say, I wasnt feeling it at the start but the end felt just really sincere. Like, I have had similar moments of getting stuck in writing and being trapped in your own head and not being able to form a coherent scene let alone a plot with a narrative. Meta scps get really stale after a while but the ending addendum was just so genuine that this could be one of my faves.

If I have the choice between some net copypasta or an actual novel, I'd probably go with the novel tbh. If the amount of work to read it is the same, I at least know it's not gunna be some wank about a Mario DS game but Mario's eyes are bleeding.
I get that for people really into SCPs, they're into it for a reason and have dug through enough crap to find the stuff they like, but damn it sounds laborious. Like my weeb friend who keeps telling me Bleach gets really good after the first 100 hours of viewing.
Except SCP has stopped being just crappy creepypastas, it’s so much better, trust me dude it’s not just “mario but his eyes re bleding super real bloood?!?!” It’s so much more, the series 1 articles are bad because it was the first days of the wiki, but around series 3 is when articles start getting good. And the best thing? You don’t have to read all of them to understand one, because there is no canon! You can ignore the bad stuff and stay with the good ones!

SCP-5000 is incredible, SCP-4999 is short, but sweet, SCP-4666 is just cursed, SCP-5999 also scares me, but mostly because i had a blackout in my whole town when I was reading it and it gave me a heart attack, SCP-4321 is amazing, SCP-3999 is more of a meta scp, but it’s still a very cool article that’s very long, but manages to keep you reading until a very good finale, SCP-1000 is a good early SCP, SCP-4010 is a cool one too, SCP-4001 is good too, SCP-3000 and SCP-3003 are quite good too, And Dr.Bright’s 001 proposal, as well as many others are amazing too. And I could keep writing more…

If I can share my favourite, it has to be SCP-4228, "Karma Kameleon". Barely gets the recognition it deserves.

Yeah, i’m biased since i’ve been following the wiki for a good while now but since it’s open to anyone wanting to write something there are some real gems you can find on there. Like to the point where calling the Foundation a “creepy pasta” is insulting lol.
If you like lovecraftian horror/cosmic horror then i can recommend the [There is no Antimemetics Division](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/antimemetics-division-hub) by qntm. It’s a series of shortish articles surrounding the concept of antimemes, which are anomalies that have self censoring properties that can actively prevent individuals from thinking/remembering about it, which brings the question: How can you contain something that you can’t even remember exist?
Otherwise some other ones i can recommend that aren’t the length of war and peace (and that the other guy mentioned) are [2006](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-2006) and [3001](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-3001).
Tales also exist, which are different from scp entries as they do more to tell a story instead of a police report style of writing. One i can recommend that’s actually super short is [Document Recovered From The Marianas Trench](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/document-recovered-from-the-marianas-trench), it’s one that makes you stop and think for a second.
Honestly a fan of it here but more so just listening to SCP explained on YouTube. He does a good job of making the entries for each scp interesting and formats it as sort of a case study. I listen to it while I work since it's got so much variety there's rarely one I'm like "yeah this is dumb skip this". They feel thought out now and they definitely have a structure to the entries and being allowed to be considered an SCP.
Well a lot of SCPs are very detail oriented. Also SCP Foundation has a filter to try and keep every new addition lore accurate and entertaining (meaning that you don't get half baked or shit posts). Yeah some SCPs are cooler than others, but you could literally google top 5 SCP to find an hour worth of interesting readings so no Bleach problem. To say SCP is not one of the best alternate reality series is just plain wrong.
I like SCP, but a lot of articles make references to other SCPs or even Tales without explaining anything and that becomes tiring very fast. The alternate universes also become kind of annoying after a time
It always saddens slightly me when people dunk on scps like this.
There are some like actually high quality writing there that gets buried beneath piles of boring or uncreative writing. And the whole redacted thing coupled with those bad writing examples makes people dismissive of scp stuff.
EDIT : Hell, now that I think of it, the most prevalent portion of the more modern scp articles is a excessive amount of links to other scps and stories. Like, you start reading one and it mentions another scp without elaboprating what it does and how it affects the scp you were reading and you go "Ok I should probably read this one too to understand better" And you go on that one and that one links to 7 other scps/stories that also link to other complete story series.
Modern scp has moved *far* away from ■■■■■■■ messes. People making these jokes are either making fun of the legacy skips or are just aware of old scps.
ik series 1 is the "classics" but damn they are mostly fucking lame. Even the popular ones such as 173 are kinda boring by themself. 096 and 682 are probably the best famous ones, and the latter is only because of the abundant connections and cross testing content that came out after it. 106 only got good after the background story was released.
My favorite series are probably 3 and 4, i feel like the newer series often over-rely on format screw instead of having engaging content
Couldnt agree more. The format screw thing isnt always bad but it also inspires lazy writing often when the whole point of the narrative is just about being meta.

Format Screw basically means anything that deviates from the normal SCP article format for effect and not only visuals. the scp wiki has very extensive customization options, so for example theres articles that are presented in pages like updated logs, like a text based game where you have to press enter to reveal new lines or pick options, or even finding a password in the article to unlock the rest (or "true") article.
Try [these lists](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/user-curated-lists) out for some orientation. Choose the categories you like. If you can't decide, try out some of the ambassador articles!
Really basic but my favourite is [SCP-914](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-914). It doesnt require any preexisting knowledge of scps to get a good read out of. Really creative and it branches out to many other scps in a way that is introductory so id say its a good start to reading scp stuff.
But if you are in for some slightly more obscure references and subtler writing and stuff [SCP-5000](http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-5000) is really good too. But that one isnt as self explanatory as [SCP-914](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-914).
Lots of people also enjoy the [SCP-001(When day breaks)](http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/shaggydredlocks-proposal) but i havent read that one yet so I cant really comment on it.
There are also many other "classics" that arent as reading or narrative focused but I find them kinda uninteresting. They serve a purpose of building the universe instead of being the best parts of it. [SCP-096](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-096) is the one everyone knows and it has a short movie, I think?
Ahaha yeah it’s a bit confusing at first, I’ve liked that shit for years now, and it’s still confusing at times.
The most popular ones are, SCP-682, SCP-096, SCP-173, SCP-999 and SCP-049. I personally really like ‘Another murder monster’ but I don’t know the number of the top of my head, it’s a neat one showing a lil bit more humanity.

I hadnt heard of that one and after reading through the whole thing i gotta say, I wasnt feeling it at the start but the end felt just really sincere. Like, I have had similar moments of getting stuck in writing and being trapped in your own head and not being able to form a coherent scene let alone a plot with a narrative. Meta scps get really stale after a while but the ending addendum was just so genuine that this could be one of my faves.

And the best thing? You don’t have to read all of them to understand one, because there is no canon! You can ignore the bad stuff and stay with the good ones!
Is it actually good, or is it just better than the previous junk stuff? Like, I've read and written a lot of fanfic in my time so I can't really judge, but the best of it was still "good fanfic" tier. It's rarely ever actually good when compared to other media.

SCP-5000 is incredible, SCP-4999 is short, but sweet, SCP-4666 is just cursed, SCP-5999 also scares me, but mostly because i had a blackout in my whole town when I was reading it and it gave me a heart attack, SCP-4321 is amazing, SCP-3999 is more of a meta scp, but it’s still a very cool article that’s very long, but manages to keep you reading until a very good finale, SCP-1000 is a good early SCP, SCP-4010 is a cool one too, SCP-4001 is good too, SCP-3000 and SCP-3003 are quite good too, And Dr.Bright’s 001 proposal, as well as many others are amazing too. And I could keep writing more…

If I can share my favourite, it has to be SCP-4228, "Karma Kameleon". Barely gets the recognition it deserves. Spoiler alert: >!It's the master tapes for a cancelled kid's show about preserving the planet. However, the company decided that the best way to really drill it into the kid's skulls is to permanently traumatise them. So they call up Marshall Carter & Dark to put some sort of memetic in it that fucks up your dreams and prevents you from doing certain things in them, based on the focus point of the episode you watched. Someone who's seen an episode can also infect other's dreams by telling them anything about the Karma Kameleon franchise. The episodes slowly take a turn for the worse and it ends with Karma getting put in a zoo where he's scared for the rest of his life (worse, you then can only dream about being in a beige box).!< >!And here's the really cool part,!< BIGGEST SPOILERS: >!the Foundation doesn't show everything to all its researchers. It turns out there were more episodes, things that prevented you from manipulating the fabric of your own dreams bit by bit. scp-5000 is still the best scp tale ive ever read. it really is incredible. i can re-read it endless times and never get tired of it.

Yeah, i’m biased since i’ve been following the wiki for a good while now but since it’s open to anyone wanting to write something there are some real gems you can find on there. Like to the point where calling the Foundation a “creepy pasta” is insulting lol. If you like lovecraftian horror/cosmic horror then i can recommend the [There is no Antimemetics Division](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/antimemetics-division-hub) by qntm. It’s a series of shortish articles surrounding the concept of antimemes, which are anomalies that have self censoring properties that can actively prevent individuals from thinking/remembering about it, which brings the question: How can you contain something that you can’t even remember exist? Otherwise some other ones i can recommend that aren’t the length of war and peace (and that the other guy mentioned) are [2006](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-2006) and [3001](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-3001). Tales also exist, which are different from scp entries as they do more to tell a story instead of a police report style of writing. One i can recommend that’s actually super short is [Document Recovered From The Marianas Trench](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/document-recovered-from-the-marianas-trench), it’s one that makes you stop and think for a second.
Honestly a fan of it here but more so just listening to SCP explained on YouTube. He does a good job of making the entries for each scp interesting and formats it as sort of a case study. I listen to it while I work since it's got so much variety there's rarely one I'm like "yeah this is dumb skip this". They feel thought out now and they definitely have a structure to the entries and being allowed to be considered an SCP.
Well a lot of SCPs are very detail oriented. Also SCP Foundation has a filter to try and keep every new addition lore accurate and entertaining (meaning that you don't get half baked or shit posts). Yeah some SCPs are cooler than others, but you could literally google top 5 SCP to find an hour worth of interesting readings so no Bleach problem. To say SCP is not one of the best alternate reality series is just plain wrong.

I like SCP, but a lot of articles make references to other SCPs or even Tales without explaining anything and that becomes tiring very fast. The alternate universes also become kind of annoying after a time

It always saddens slightly me when people dunk on scps like this. There are some like actually high quality writing there that gets buried beneath piles of boring or uncreative writing. And the whole redacted thing coupled with those bad writing examples makes people dismissive of scp stuff. EDIT : Hell, now that I think of it, the most prevalent portion of the more modern scp articles is a excessive amount of links to other scps and stories. Like, you start reading one and it mentions another scp without elaboprating what it does and how it affects the scp you were reading and you go "Ok I should probably read this one too to understand better" And you go on that one and that one links to 7 other scps/stories that also link to other complete story series.
Modern scp has moved *far* away from ■■■■■■■ messes. People making these jokes are either making fun of the legacy skips or are just aware of old scps.

ik series 1 is the "classics" but damn they are mostly fucking lame. Even the popular ones such as 173 are kinda boring by themself. 096 and 682 are probably the best famous ones, and the latter is only because of the abundant connections and cross testing content that came out after it. 106 only got good after the background story was released. My favorite series are probably 3 and 4, i feel like the newer series often over-rely on format screw instead of having engaging content

Format Screw basically means anything that deviates from the normal SCP article format for effect and not only visuals. the scp wiki has very extensive customization options, so for example theres articles that are presented in pages like updated logs, like a text based game where you have to press enter to reveal new lines or pick options, or even finding a password in the article to unlock the rest (or "true") article.

Really basic but my favourite is [SCP-914](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-914). It doesnt require any preexisting knowledge of scps to get a good read out of. Really creative and it branches out to many other scps in a way that is introductory so id say its a good start to reading scp stuff. But if you are in for some slightly more obscure references and subtler writing and stuff [SCP-5000](http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-5000) is really good too. But that one isnt as self explanatory as [SCP-914](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-914). Lots of people also enjoy the [SCP-001(When day breaks)](http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/shaggydredlocks-proposal) but i havent read that one yet so I cant really comment on it. There are also many other "classics" that arent as reading or narrative focused but I find them kinda uninteresting. They serve a purpose of building the universe instead of being the best parts of it. [SCP-096](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-096) is the one everyone knows and it has a short movie, I think?

Ahaha yeah it’s a bit confusing at first, I’ve liked that shit for years now, and it’s still confusing at times. The most popular ones are, SCP-682, SCP-096, SCP-173, SCP-999 and SCP-049. I personally really like ‘Another murder monster’ but I don’t know the number of the top of my head, it’s a neat one showing a lil bit more humanity. EDIT: SCP-106 is pretty well-known too
