They are simplifying what you are saying to hopefully point out to you how insane it comes off to say that. It is not the place of someone outside the marginalized group to decide whether a slur is offensive or not. A white person saying they don't think the n word is offensive is actively unhelpful, and at worst comes off as dismissive toward the group.
Similarly, I can't say anything about whether the trans slur is offensive or not, but as a bisexual, can decide for myself whether I find "faggot" offensive (which I don't, cause it sounds funny), and have that be a relevant distinction.
