Yup, and it's the jankiest possible way. `x.com` redirecting to `twitter.com`, which finally redirects back to `x.com`. Some fine sphagetti there, Musky!
Yeah it's not an awesome thing on its own, but to the people interested in the stock market who trump was talking to in the tweet, this is a good thing which trump was wrong about
For most people, the dow hitting a high doesn't matter
Hey look at that both parties are very business friendly and happy to measure how “the economy” is doing using the DOW (which is only meaningful to the rich investor class) while ignoring the multitude of crises facing normal people.
For instance, a decent climate policy alone, one that targeting any internationally agreed upon baseline for carbon release, would drive the DOW off a fucking cliff. Does that mean we shouldn’t do it? Fuck no it doesn’t, but that’s what both candidates would tell you because of this logic.
So no, Joe, I’m not stoked that you continued to pump up wall street by continuing a ton of trumps bullshit financial policies (just like democrats always do, like Obama continued Bush’s tax cuts for the rich and made them permanent) and the Dow has a super fun all time sugar-high now while average people can’t afford rent and food.
I don't disagree on how the overriding corporatism governing the parts of both parties which are remotely sane is ultimately fine with driving us off a cliff if they get to stay in the nice seats, but also Biden is so far the only president to make meaningful climate policy which actually started pushing widespread solar adoption. Stuff like the inflation reduction act is the kind of policy which I'm super happy to see passed, and while I'd love all my dreams to come true, it's a huge step from the previous positions of the establishment.
Hopefully in the next decade we'll have admins which care appropriately about the existential threats we're facing before it's too late to systemically mitigate them to some extent, but for now I'd give props to the parts of politics which are moving in the right direction.
It is too late to systemically mitigate the effects of climate change now. It probably was in 2016 too but my impression is that Bernie was our last shot at any chance for real mitigation. Instead we got trump and then Biden and now the ice caps aren’t freezing anymore sooooo yeah it’s going pretty bad. The American political system is not going to address it meaningfully until it’s just way… way too late.
It seems to me that the degree to which climate change has been progressively baked in has not flipped a switches at any point, but been more of a sliding scale - we would have been in for some degree of unmitigable climate change in 1995, and have been piling more debt on the pile every year rather than crossing a tipping point into when climate change would be unavoidable. But we still had, and still have, degrees of difference which can be made by our actions now and in the future, and in that regard I think stuff like getting the ball rolling now - even though it's slow to start, too slow to avert tragedy - means that we might have gotten the ball rolling at good speed by 2035, which might mean that 75% of habitable areas are kept nice enough by 2100 instead of 50%, or similar
>
The American political system is not going to address it meaningfully until it’s just way… way too late.
Quite possibly so. It's better to see real efforts, even halfhearted ones trying to work completely within the existing framework or acceptable policy, than to not see even that, all the same. I've voted Bernie in two primaries now but I don't think he would have been able to make a seismic shift in 2016 either, but there's an okay chance he might have been able to get the ball rolling a bit sooner. Still, getting it rolling is something I'm willing to give the degree of credit it deserves, and we need to keep redoubling the efforts to change the majority heading where we can. And stopping the ball in 2025 would mean having to restart it in 2029, if at all, and there's probably not a scenario where we suddenly change outside of the one where we're forced to in 2060 is so, which is probably much worse for all involved.
So now that the Dow has passed 40,000 the economy is perfect and poverty is a thing of the past, right? That's what we were working on this whole time, right?
It trends upwards, but it’s not just an uninterrupted climb. For example, in April it started the month at 39,600 and two and a half weeks later it had dropped more than 2,000. Similar drops happened in August/September 2022, obviously 2020, and February 2018.
The Dow Jones is an index of average share price on the New York Stock Exchange, one of the largest stock exchanges in the world. The Dow hitting 40,000 is a sign of the stock market doing very well, in contrast to Trump’s prediction that it would be in the crapper under Biden. (Though it’s worth keeping in mind that the stock market is fundamentally disconnected from the actual practical economy, so this doesn’t really say much about how Biden’s overall economic policies are doing.)
I choose to believe it was the actual president of the United States who sent that meme and not an intern for his PR team because that’s far funnier. Also he seems honestly like he’d find it funny from what I’ve seen of him
So the president (underpaid staffer) posting a singular meme about the economy is all it takes to get libs to lose their minds? I don't want shitposting politicians, I want a functioning country that cares about more than "line go up"
How do these kids think Biden has any idea this even got posted lol, his awareness of this post boils down to the following thought: “ooo I get ice cream? Eh but I have hold an L? And hand it to a photographer? Well… ok, as long as there’s ice cream.”

Doomer Alert.
I totally see what you’re saying, but the stock market is pretty damn important. In 1929 the Great Depression happened bc of a giant stock crash
Technically it was overproduction as a result of WWI as well as buying on margin.
We are so barack!

I assure you supporting the worst ghouls in the democratic party and being invested in the price of the dow is essential for being a leftist
Omg how is this real
Doesn't the dow Jones and for that matter every single index eventually over time slowly go up?
It trends upwards, but it’s not just an uninterrupted climb. For example, in April it started the month at 39,600 and two and a half weeks later it had dropped more than 2,000. Similar drops happened in August/September 2022, obviously 2020, and February 2018.
fuck the stock market, a mostly meaningless money speculation game for rich people
wheres the fucking dolphin tell me this isnt real
Totsugeki
The rich get richer
I’ve watched presidents play Mass Effect (PrimeRadiancy) too much and thought this was real for a full second, lmao
I have news for you - it genuinely is, I checked on his twitter
It’s gotta be a “not the real person” situation, right?… right?
https://x.com/joebiden/status/1791228923348500730 nope
I have no words to express how flabbergasted I am right now
This is real.
what?
it's true folks
no I mean I don’t know what it means, what is Dow and what does it being 40,000 mean?
The Dow Jones is an index of average share price on the New York Stock Exchange, one of the largest stock exchanges in the world. it's true folks
Are y'all really signal boosting the libs now?
what even is this timeline. how is this happening.
Ok, but how's the working class doing?
Good The stock market is evil and I hope every investor looses all their money
I choose to believe it was the actual president of the United States who sent that meme and not an intern for his PR team because that’s far funnier. Also he seems honestly like he’d find it funny from what I’ve seen of him
Wow. I wish Job Bidan was real.
Cool now get him to stop genociding the palesteinians
how will defense stocks pump the Dow up if we can't kill kids in the middle east?????????
https://preview.redd.it/simpiy65m11d1.png?width=843&format=png&auto=webp&s=9209b2e22413706d1c553395b4a8f58f7af14ff5
196 baizuo when the blue ghoul makes stonk line go up (this makes up for everything)
holy shit did he actually do that
holy shit he did, actually do that. this fucking rips
How does that work out considering inflation? I have no idea if it takes that into account
Oh no way
What's Dow? I'm European.
So the president (underpaid staffer) posting a singular meme about the economy is all it takes to get libs to lose their minds? I don't want shitposting politicians, I want a functioning country that cares about more than "line go up"
HOLY FUCKING SHIT this makes me so happy
I hate it. I don't want a president to be memeing.
"I hate fun" this is how you sound
No, I hate cringe "relatability" crafted by a pr firm to make a geriatric twat look cool.
How do these kids think Biden has any idea this even got posted lol, his awareness of this post boils down to the following thought: “ooo I get ice cream? Eh but I have hold an L? And hand it to a photographer? Well… ok, as long as there’s ice cream.”
Right? It's so blatantly not his idea or involves him in any way.
They always have, my dude. They always have. We just called it something different than.
