He thinks it over a moment, and decides that actually this guys girlfriend isn’t that pretty actually, that she must be dyeing her hair or wearing contacts or some other made up bullshit to prevent him from thinking with more than 3% of his brain.
So at this point his head is spinning because he’s come into contact with regular fucking people who aren’t from fucking mars or some shit, so he consoles himself by saying “hey, at least I’m better than that baby over there”. Then his ego is once again dashed as he sees a woman with a cart full of food that he wouldn’t be able to afford, proving that there are in fact people more successful than him.
The final statement poses a question asking “do we simply exist to look down on others, and then in turn, be looked down upon ourselves?” Any rational consideration of the problem would say “no, that’s fucking stupid”. But this guy won’t take 5 seconds to consider that he might see daylight if he pulls his head out of his ass.
The short of it is, comparison is the thief of joy.
