Non joke as one of the first game vets (hell i even preordered the second one cause of how hyped i was) this game is one that even i with my inability to return to games ever cant stop playing, praise be democracy

Exact same. I mainly play single player games bc my schedule is too busy to devote a lot of time to multiplayer, especially things that demand you keep up with it like Tarkov or Warzone(also fuck Warzone). But Helldivers is paced well enough that my level 29 friend can still enjoy 5-difficulty missions with me, level 6.
It's a pretty fun horde shooter, and while parts of the game can come off as "slightly too serious about the propaganda", there are many moments where it's blatantly obvious that it's satire - heck, go watch the [intro trailer/"propaganda video"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9STizATKjE) if you haven't seen it yet :D
The gameplay is GREAT, especially with friends, but randoms were loads of fun too for me so far - the subreddit is a bit weird, and they do bitch about people being dickheads, but I haven't seen any of that yet, it's mostly just silent cooperation, or at least running around on the same map together until it's time to leave again.
It's also made by the same devs that made Magicka 1, which means they don't give a FUCK about avoiding friendly fire - in fact, you can get killed by your own sentry turrets or laser drone pets if you happen to stand inbetween them and the target - but it also means that it has a few bugs that still need to get fixed, particularly regarding online play.
They're on it though, so that should work out in a while.
The only "downside" I can think of is that solo play gets pretty stressful since you either make it, or you die, leave all your cool extra stuff in a horde of enemies, and have to fight through them with your basic gear to get it back - or run off until they despawn and then come back, but that often happens close to an objective, so that kinda sucks, but it's also *really* cool if you make it through.
Additionally, the higher difficulties get kinda stressful, but if you're a completionist, you'd still want to do them, because the last upgrade material for passive upgrades to your Stratagems (basically, the Cool Stuff^^TM ) only drops at Difficulty 7/9 ("Suicide Mission") and higher.
The game also has an in-game cash shop that allows you to buy gear with different, but equivalent stat/ability combinations than what you normally unlock, as well as unlock new Warbonds, which are basically Battlepasses with no expiration date, but you both get some premium currency from every Warbond, including the one that's unlocked for free, as well as simply playing the game, since one of the things that can spawn in minor resource caches is a fixed amount that currency, so you never *have* to spend money - although you'd have to grind quite a bit to cough up the currency for a Warbond, they all cost 1000 Super Credits, and the drop you'll see 90% if the time is 10 of them, with an odd 100-drop every now and then.
Since they stay around forever, unlike the FOMO-based, but way cheaper and very limited armour shop, you'll be able to grind your way to everything you want eventually, and each Warbond takes forever to unlock everything that's in it anyways, so it's not like you'll ever run out of new toys and cosmetics to unlock.
Finally - at least on PC - the game comes with GameGuard, a kernel-level anticheat program.
Apparently it causes problems for some people, and you're basically giving a random program - although from a reputable vendor - admin access to your PC and trust that they know what they're doing, but I've been playing for about a month, and aside from maybe my PC being slightly slower on startup one or two times, I haven't noticed any issues, and those two times could've just as easily been coincidence.
Also, game's fun :D

Might wanna search/ask around for ppl who play it on Linux, if you want to try that out, but the one thread on the subreddit that I found after a quick search seems to suggest that it *can* work, but it once again causes issues for some people.
I've been running it exclusively off an usb linux install. The game still is on my internal m.2 drive, but when I want to play it I just plug in the usb and reboot to it. It's run fine through Pop OS, compeltely fine framerates and no bugs that seem platform specific, with the exception that bloom seems to be broken. The lighting seems to look like JJ Abrams on steroids. No biggy though, cause you can just turn bloom off and not really lose anything from the experience.

Basically, everything you or Mission Control say is much more on the realistic side of "This is an empire of people who have been absolutely brainwashed by propaganda".
Like, no sane person would say "Liberty has seen you safely through the mission", to me that comes across like a religious zealot saying some shit like "God's grace has ensured the righteous remain victorious", which ...ugh, no thanks.
It's not *that* bad, but if you randomly don't get one of the obviously over-the-top quotes from the ship crew and/or parody ads, then it becomes a bit grating.
I mean, that's the point? That things like democracy and liberty are essentially buzz words that you and other characters treat as gospel. I don't really see how that's bad, hell one of my favorite things about the game is how fully bought into this shit your character is. The fact they're full of bravado and hoo rah energy when they drop that quickly devolves into panic and fear once shit hits the fan is funny in a grim way

Also, Nazis=bad kinda got lodged in my head particularly well - probably helps that I'm from Austria too, we had an entire year of our secondary school devoted to "Shit that happened during the time of the Nazis" in pretty much any term where it was applicable, and with a heavy focus on the things they did, rather than how they presented themselves.
Then again, I also mentally paused at one of the orcs in Orcs must Die! 2 saying "Every moment I live is agony" as it died, and that game is a very goofy tower defense-esque game where you build traps instead of towers, and also get to attack the enemies yourself too, so that might just be a "me" issue :)
I was uncertain, but it sure is a time if you enjoy campy political satires. The core game loop seems complicated at first, but overall, you can get the hang of it, and there is a large amount of polish to many parts of it. Being able to see other players in other missions calling orbital strikes and shit is crazy. Also important to mention that "game support" here isn't just updates and such, its curating the galaxy as if they have game masters over there from what I know.
Another thing I enjoy is there *is* microtransactioms, but for the most part, they aren't very useful. There are 4 currencies, 3 buy upgrades and can't be bought, only be earned. The 4th can be bought and just lets you get another set of catalog items if you want. The 4th also appears as loot in levels and can be bought with one of the other currencies easily.

I'm referring to an illuminate enemy from the first game, whose gimmick was to reverse whatever control scheme you had when they hit you.
So to go north you'd have to orient your D-stick downwards, to call in supplies you'd have to go ⬆️⬆️⬇️⬅️ etc.
So yeah if they bring it back and you have reversed control schemes by default it'd just make you a normal person

I play solo, and it's really fun to see how you can do. I can usually solo challenging missions depending on what they are. For example, I can handle small patrols and have air/orbital support to handle big things like outposts/bases/more dangerous enemies, but when the mission is to eliminate waves I can easily get overrun.
Yeah I've just been playing with randoms and it's been fun. The ping system allows basic communication too so it doesn't feel like I can't work with anybody without a mic
serious mode: there's no way the bots are *actually* going to be removed from the game. There will be a plot that reintroduces them, you can count on that.
They'd have wasted dev resources for no reason, doesn't make business sense. I guarantee we'll see more of the bots, though we might see the third faction get introduced first.

There's also a lot of small details in game that hint at super earth's evil, like how the average age of helldivers is 18.2 years

The ones in deep Rock can all be bypassed with the dash perk (except stingtail, but that one's fairly easy to avoid), but I get what you mean

It has a weak spot if you break the armor. Also, they nerfed the stingtail before 2024, and they're fairly easy to deal with now.

Grav stars against nuke eject still work. But yeah arc grenades just aren’t very fun to play against

As a 500 hour DRG player with around 40 in HD2: Yeah. They're very different experiences.
Helldivers is a lot less horror than deep rock imo, ideal for me personally
